Border of image lost when connecting iMac to TV

When I connect my 27" iMac to my Panasonic TV a portion of the image is lost on all four borders. How can I get the entire image to be viewable on the TV?
To connect the iMac to the TV I'm using a mini-DisplayPort-to-DVI adapter and an HDMI cable with a DVI connector on one end.

My TV had its HD size set to 1, which turns overscan on, resulting in the loss of the edge. I changed HD size to 2 and now there is no loss.

  • No audio when connecting iMac to LED TV

I connected my iMac (using a mini display to DVI adapter) to my LED TV (using an HDMI to DVI Digital Video Cable), the picture appears but the only sound there is is that coming out of the iMac. Under system preferences their is only the internal speakers displayed in the output section. Please help!

When you connected the mini-display port to mini-dvi adapter, you lost any audio possible. dvi standard doesn't support audio. If your iMac is a early 2009 or earlier, it doesn't support audio over the mini-displayport. The late 2009 and mid 2010 iMacs support audio over the mini-displayport per this article:

Hope this doesn't confuse you too much.

  • No picture when connecting iMac to TV via S-Video

We have an '07ish iMac, and an older TV with only composite and S-video.
We've connected a mini-DVI to video adapter, an S-video cable, and an audio cable, switched the TV over to the correct video input, clicked 'detect displays', and tried every single resolution. We got a little blip of white on the TV screen when we plugged the mini-DVI port in, but other than that—black screen. (We did get the sound.)
Thinking maybe *just maybe* we'd get a different result using a composite cable instead, we tried that too. Still nuthin'.
After reading through some other posts on connecting Macs to TVs, we tried restarting the computer. Still nuthin'.
    Any help would be appreciated!

    Hi eb
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Could be a bad Dynex adapter, return that one for another and/or cough up the extra $3 for Apples.
I'm now using a Mini-DVD to to DVI and a 21.5 LG monitor, but my Apple Mini-DVI to Video adapter and my 27" Sharp served me well for a couple of years.
See the Tip in > http://support.apple.com/kb/TA23844?
+Tip: To make sure that your iMac automatically detects the external display or projector, be sure you plug the adapter into the external display or projector before you plug it into the iMac.+

  • Bad image quality when connecting an external Dell 30" monitor. Why?

I recently bought the latest Mac Book Pro Retina 15. It's running the nVidia M750 2gb card I believe.
I'm trying to hook it up to my Dell 30" desktop monitor which runs my desktop computer perfectly well. I'm using a cheap Mini Displayport to Displayport cable which to do this. It's working except the image is slightly fuzzy, as though the resolution is just a couple pixels off native res. Could it be the cable being cheap? (I couldn't find proper ones when I bought this one) Or should I be connecting the screen via a different method? I obviously need the full 2560 x 1600 resolution.
    Thanks,
    Simon

    Sure.
Here are the specs on a Moshi Mini DP to HDMI Adapter
You can see Supports full HD display at 1080p (1920 x 1080).
    So no go there...
Altaz Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort Adapter for Apple MacBook
So that would work for you. Review on link:
I recently bought one of these to try out with an Apple unibody (late 2008) MacBook Pro and a Dell 3008WFP 30" display.
Dell's web site advertised the 3008WFP as requiring Dual Link DVI to work at full resolution (which is certainly partly true, as normal DVI can't drive 2560x1600 displays). Given that DisplayPort is rated up to 2560x1600 I was hoping that this adapter would allow my MBP to drive the display at full resolution without requiring Apple's MiniDisplayPort to Dual Link DVI converter.
    It works flawlessly for me.
So make sure you look for a cable that is rated above 1920 x 1200.

  • Server connection lost when connected via WAP200

    Hi,
I have a small Windows SBS 2011 network where two WAP200 (hw-ver 1.0 sw-ver 2.0.6.0-ETSI) provides WLAN access to the network for my Win7 clients. If I connect one of the Win7 clients via one the the WAP200, open a pdf-file and leave it for one hour, and then try to scroll the document, then Acrobat reports an IO-error after 20 seconds. This does not occur if I connect directly to the LAN or via a 3Com AP instead. Similar problems occur if I open Outlook or IE.
It seems like a SMB2 session is created when I open the pdf-file, and that this session is lost for some reason. Is there some PM that kicks in and makes the client inaccessible from the server so that it considers the client gone ?
    Regards
    MatsW

    Hi Jeffrey,
There's definitely something fishy with the WAP200. I can see the following: If I take a network trace on both my server and the client attached via WAP200 then I can see that suddenly ARP Requests from server doesn't reach the client. This lasts for about 5 minutes when traffic starts to pass thru.
So then I started "ping client -n 10000000' on the server to make sure I had a continous flow of traffic between client and server. Now the problem doesn't occur. But what is odd is that I can see that another client which is attached to the same WAP200 suddenly stops responding to ARP Requests, just as the first client when it didn't have ping running.
This may explain why the SMB2 session fails because if client doesn't respond to ARP Requests (because WAP200 drops connection for 5 minutes) then eventually the file handle is closed.
Do you have some suggestion on how to debug this ?
    Kind regards
    Mats

  • DV Video lost when Connect add-in installed - HELP!

    Hi,
We have this problem on hosted service Connect installation:
    - video (from a mixer) is going through ADVC110 in DV to PC (Windows 7 64 bit)
    - audio is going in audiocard in PC (because apparently we cannot use the audio in the DV stream???)
    This is working ok
As soon as we need to use a PowerPoint the Adobe platform asks us to install the "Connect Add-in" or we will not have any audio it states
    Having done this:
we lose the video from our ADVC 110....and the audio....
deinstalling the "Connect Add-in" gets us back to the beginning (video ok, audio ok), but then we cannot use a PPT Pod....
    a) why can't we get audio from the DV stream
    b) do we need the add-in
    c) is still a know isssue
    Please help us.
    Tnx
    Martin

Thanks again. I finally found the answer and it is working in Safari and Chrome
First I updated Flash Player to the latest version (not sure whether this was required)
Then I found that even though the add-in was installed that Connect was not using it, as all the browser tabs were still showing, and adjusting sound was crashing the program.
    I deleted the add-in directory from ~/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/www.macromedia.com/bin/connectaddin
    I deleted the add-in directory from ~/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/www.macromedia.com/bin/adobeconnectaddin
Then I restarted the meeting and created a new Pod and Selected 'Share my Screen'
This forced the add-in to download and install.
Adobe Connect now starts from the add-in and not the browser
Many thanks for your Help Sameer

  • After recent update to airport on iMac, the wifi connection is lost when it goes to sleep and requires turning off wifi and turning it on to reestablish contact.

After recent update to OS on iMac, communication to airport is lost when computer goes to sleep.  To reestablish connection, I need to turn wifi off then on.

    same problem here.
    i have a time capsule.
    symptoms:
    excessively searching for network
but more often than not, it cant find the correct netowrk that is correctly stored in keychain
if i try network assistant opened through safari not finding its page, then it can find the right network after i enter in the password again.  it connects. but only for a few seconds then it loses the connection again.
the only fool proof workaround for me is:
1/ shut down time capsule. restart time capsule.
2/ restart mac with airport turned off.
3/ after restart manually select the network from the wireless icon in the menu bar
airport utility is a complete waste of time
old airport utility is still better.

  • Please, i bought a new track pad for my imac. it is working well when my imac is on. But, anytime i off my imac and wish to on it again, My track pad will be connected but it doesn't click i will need a mouse to log in my password first . Any help?

Please, i bought a new track pad for my imac. it is working well when my imac is on. But, anytime i off my imac and wish to on it again, My track pad will be connected but it doesn't click i will need a mouse to log in my password first . Any help?
To be specific. I have the imac late 2013 model, and i just bought the trackpad this October 2014. I have been using magic mouse without any problem. I just want to have a new experience with the trackpad.  Any time i on my imac, i will have a normal screen with my picture and a guest column at the center. I need to click either my picture or the guest in order to have the space where i can key in my password with the keyboard. But unfortunately, my trackpad will show that it is connected and the cursor will be moving in front of the screen if i touch the trackpad, but if i try to click, i will get no response. I have to put back batteries inside my magic mouse and then click on my picture if i want to log in with my id or i click on the guest image if i want to log in as a guest. it is only after this that my trackpad will start responding.
i want to use only trackpad for now so as to be more efficient with it. I don't want to be putting back batteries inside the magic mouse only to on my imac. I need a solution please.
    Thanks.

It sounds like you have assigned the primary click on the trackpad to something else, perhaps a gesture.
Use your mouse, login and then open the Trackpad preference pane and see how you have the interface configured.
Oh and you can have both the Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad powered up and working at the same time. No need to keep moving batteries around.

You can connect the audio from your iMac to your TV using a mini jack (like headphones plug) to rca (regular red and white audio connectors used on every TV,DVD, etc) cable.
On your TV, you need to be able to set the audio for the HDMI input you will use to "analog" and connect the rca end of the cable to the analog inputs on your TV.

  • My Apple TV drops out when my iMac isn't connected to wifi yet my TV is connected to wifi.  Also having issues with losing settings on Home Sharing as well.  How do I fix these issues?

Whether I'm watching a movie purchased via my Apple TV or a movie stored on my iTunes app on my iMac I'm having constant issues with Apple TV either cutting out (randomly - not related to wifi) or not being able to access the 'My Computer' files when my iMac drops out the wifi connection because its in power saving mode.  I also have issues with 'Home Sharing' settings having to be reset and sometimes having to unplug the Apple TV power cord and plugging it back in to be able to successfully reset these settings so I can get back to watching whatever it was I was viewing on Apple TV.  My TV is connected to wifi as well so I'm wondering if there are any changes I can make in the settings of both my Apple TV and iMac or TV so that I can just select whatever it is I want to watch and be able to watch the entire movie or episode without it dropping out or having to keep flicking the mouse on the iMac to keep the computer connected to wifi?  I love Apple products generally but Apple TV is proving to be a pain in the a**e lately.  Hopefully someone can help me sort these issues out

Intermittent issues will point to a local network/wifi issue.
Reboot ATV and router, make sure both are up to date
    Try ethernet
The home sharing connection will cut out if the iMac goes to sleep.

  • When I connect imac to network via airport all devices on the network lose internet connectivity

Every device stays connected to the network but the internet stops working. Usually the network will continue to function normally for about five minutes when the imac connects, but then every device loses internet access via the network, NOT just the imac. As soon as I turn off the imac's airport they get internet connectivity back. A wired network connection to the imac seems to work OK.
The airport is configured as "Using DHCP"
    Mac OS X 10.6.8
As far as I know, no changes have been made to the computer recently (but it is not my machine and the owner isn't here atm)
I found one other resource with the same problem here:
    http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/internet-networking-wireless/183185-turning-my- macbook-airport-breaks-internet-connection-entire-network.html
but the solution didn't work. When I deleted the three files mentioned in the solution in that thread, my problem is not solved.
If you have any ideas or need more information I would love to hear from you.
    Thanks guys.

Yes it is possible that the two machines are creating a Computer-to-Computer network and are not going through the Express.
