Borderless printing from Windows 7 64 to a shared printer on XP Pro system.

I recently bought a new dv7 HP laptop with Windows 7 64 bit to replace a Dell laptop running XP.  The XP laptop and other XP systems can print to my HP PSC2410 connected to a XP pro system fine.  The XP systems can print both 8x10, 5x6 or 4x6 borderlessly fine.  However, the new HP laptop with Windows 7 does NOT even have the option of 4x6 or 5x7size paper!  If I connect the printer directly to the win7 system, that works, but when I print to the same printer via the XP pro "shared printer", most of the paper size options go away.
I found a post that shows how to present a 4x6 paper size option to the win7 system which now works, but borderless printing to the 4x6 paper doesn't work.  The 4x6 photos all print with thin white borders.  Please tell me I don't have to replace my PSC2410 printer in order to print from my new windows 7 system (borderlessly) via a network!

  • Help Printing from Windows 7 to shared printer on Tiger/Mac Mini

UGH! My folks have long been running on a Power PC Mac Mini with Tiger. The Mac has an Epson Stylus CX4200 - works great in this configuration. Unfortunately, we have a need to implement a laptop with Windows 7 running. I'd like to print to the Mac's locally-attached printer from the wirelessly-connected laptop.
Anyone know how to configure windows 7 to print to the shared printer attached to the Mac? Any help, greatly appreciated.
    - Brad

    Hello Brad,
If you download and install Bonjour for Windows onto the Windows 7 laptop, this will assist you with finding the printer being shared by the Mac.
Note that the web page does not mention Win7 support, but since Vista is supported there should not be an issue.
I also cannot ever remember using it when I had Tiger on a Mac, so not 100% of it functioning correctly (certainly works when printer is shared by 10.5 and 10.6).
In case it doesn't work, you could manually add the printer queue on Win7. The connection used by Bonjour for Windows is IPP and you will need to know the IP address or name of the Mac sharing the printer. You will also need to know the name set for the Epson, which can be found via the Print & Fax pane.
    The network queue name on the Win 7 laptop needs to be;
    http://maccomputer_name.local:631/printers/PrinterName
    or
    http://IPaddress_of_mac:631/printers/PrinterName
Then for the Printer Manufacturer and Model you can select the HP Color Laserjet 4550 PS. Don't worry about selecting a PostScript (ie PS) driver. Even though your printer probably does not support PostScript, the Mac will convert the incoming PS spool file into the appropriate format used by the Epson.

  • Cannot print from Windows 7 to shared HP cp1160 on XP machine

I am adding a Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit laptop (HP ProBook 4510s) to my home network. There is already an XP machine there with a shared USB printer (HP cp1160) which is in regular use from XP and Vista laptops on the network. I've attempted to add it to the new Windows 7 machine (the wizard found it and downloaded the driver from the XP machine) and I then tried to print a test page. I can see the test page being spooled (when I See what's printing - though I notice that it is shown with owner Guest). But if I look at the print queue on the XP machine, nothing ever appears there. Eventually, the queue clears at the Windows 7 machine as well - but nothing comes out of the printer!
I have tried browsing to the printer, right-clicking and selecting Connect, but this makes no difference.
So then I tried connecting the printer locally, having first checked that the printer is listed as Windows 7 compatible - it is, and says that no extra drivers are required. Yet when I plug it into a USB port on my Win7 pc, it tries to install the USB printing support (successfully) and then says that it cannot find a driver for the HEWLETT-PACKARDcp1160 device (but I thought it didn't need one?)! The Event Log contains the following entry:
    EventData
       4545305
          5
          PnPDriverNotFound
          Not available
          x86
          USBPRINT\HEWLETT-PACKARDcp1164C70
I notice that the Properties of the hp cp1160 printer on the XP box has Additional Drivers accessible from the Sharing tab, and this lists additional drivers that users can download automatically when they connect. There is only one checked entry there: Intel, Windows 2000 or XP - is this adequate to allow Win7 clients to share the printer (note the x86 in the Event log entry above, though it isn't clear if that might be the driver-type being sought)?
Has anybody else encountered/resolved this problem? If so, how?!
    Will

With the aid of Windows Restore, I was able to step back to a time before I had attempted to connect to the HP cp1160 on my XP machine.  The following sequence must be followed to connect to the printer successfully:
Connect the printer directly to a USB port on the Windows 7 laptop. Windows 7 recognises the printer, connects to Windows Update and installs drivers for it – Print Test Page proves that this has worked.
Now disconnect the printer, and reconnect it to a USB port on the networked XP machine.
Select Start/Devices and Printers and click on the menu item “Add a printer” – allow the wizard to find the shared cp1160, or enter its share name (eg. \\my_XP_box\hp cp1160). The connection is made and no new drivers are downloaded from the XP machine. Bring up the Properties dialog for the printer and use Print Test Page to prove that a satisfactory connection has been made.
Note that if you don’t perform Step 1 above, then a set of drivers is downloaded from the XP machine (and saved in \windows\system32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3) which doesn’t work! I imagine these must be the drivers for NT/XP/Vista.  There then appears to be no way to persuade Windows 7 to download the correct set.
Now I just need to find out how to get Windows 7 to use the duplex mode of the printer - it isn't shown as an Installable Option on the Printer Properties, Device Settings dialog.
    XP was never this difficult!

  • Can't Print from Windows Vista Notebook to Printer installed in Mac Mini

I have a home network that is connected to the internet by DSL. My Printer Xerox Phaser 3115 is installed to the Mac Mini.
From my Vista Notebook, I can see the printer shared by my Macmini. However, I can't print coz the printer says "access denied". I installed this Bonjour for Windows in order to print but it says "No Bonjour Printers are available".
    Please help me! Thanks!

On Windows, after either method of setup, change the driver (on PC) to Apple Color LaserWriter. Apple print queues expect postscript as input.
If this is unsatisfactory, you can create a RAW queue on the Mac (only for sharing the printer, because it will have no driver associated):

  • Having problem with printing from xp to mac shared printer (HP LJ M1005).

    I have 2 printers - HP LaserJet M1005 MFP, HP DeskJet 3845.
Both are connected via USB to MacPro and shared.
I have 3 laptops - MacBookPro, IBM ThinkPad T42 (winxp) and HP Compaq nw8000 (winxp).
All these computers are connected via router.
I'm able to print from MacBookPro on both printers.
On IBM and HP I installed Bonjour service and added both printers.
Printing to HP DeskJet 3845 works fine, but HP LaserJet M1005 MFP doesn't.
What happens - When I print from IBM or HP, the job shows up in MacPro, but after 1sec status is changed to "Stopped".
I really don't understand where is problem...
I tried different drivers - Generic driver, HP LaserJet m1005 driver, some other LaserJet drivers. Nothing works...
When I connect HP LaserJet M1005 MFP directly to PC and install drivers, it works fine.

    Two possible solutions.

  • Printing from Lion to Xp shared printer

Under Snow Leopard, I could easily print to printers shared by computers running Windows. This is on my simple home LAN with a Windows workgroup.
After upgrading to Lion, this capability seems lost...or changed...or broken.
I have done a lot of googling, and lots of folks seem to have this problem, but I have found no consistent solution.
I have tried removing printer entires from Key Chain, removing and reinstalling the printer (on both the Mac side and the Windows side), removing special characters from my Windows password, reseting the Mac printing system, and combinations of these approaches and nothing works.
Anyone have anything else to suggest? Any "guaranteed" solutions?
I see a couple failure modes...usually Lion reprots the print job has been sent, but nothing actually gets printed, and Lion never reports the job completed. Other times Lion shows the pinter as "paused".
    Thanks,
    Mark

Rather than use SMB to connect from Lion to the Windows XP printer share, a better method is to enable Print Services for UNIX on Windows XP and then use LPD on the Mac to print via the Windows share.
To install Print Services for UNIX on Windows XP:
Log on to the Windows server with an administrative-level account.
Start the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel.
    Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
Click Other Network File and Print Services, and then click Details.
Click to select the Print Services for UNIX check box, and then click OK.
Follow the instructions on the screen to finish the installation
If you haven't done so already, share the printer on Windows XP and make the name one word - no spaces or special characters
With the print services enabled you can then create the printer queue on Lion.
Open Print & Scan and click + to add a printer
Select the IP icon and set the protocol to Line Printer Daemon - LPD
For the Address, enter the IP address of the Windows XP computer
For the Queue name, enter the share name set for the printer in Windows XP
Name and Location are free text so you can set this to something meaningful
For the Print Using menu, select the supporting printer driver. Note that like connections via SMB, the vendors driver for Lion in some cases cannot be used and an alternate like those offered by the Gutenprint suite must be used.
Click the OK button to complete the queue creation.
Now you are ready to test the new print queue.

  • Can't print from Windows laptop to HP printer on extreme base station

I have an IMAC Power PC as a Home computer. I use a an airport extreme as my wireless router. I have an HP Deskjet1220 C connected via USB to the Base station. I can print from the IMAC but can't from my windows based laptop. I have downloaded bonjour but I cant see the printer there. I also called Apple support and they sent me 2 files. I dont have the airport software on the Windows machine its on the IMAC. The instructions showed me how to add by Start-printerfaxes, add printer, local printer, deselect auto detect, create new port, std tcp/ip, then put in 10.0.1.1.
Thats where it ALL STOPS the port is in use? Apple cant help me cause its windows machine, Microsoft is the same? Help??

  • 7.3.1 firmware interferes with printing from Windows XP to USB printer

I have a home network consisting of an Airport Extreme, a Windows XP desktop, and a Macbook Pro laptop. After upgrading the firmware of the Airport Extreme to 7.3.1, I can no longer print to my Airport Extreme USB connected printer from my Windows XP desktop. I can print fine from my Macbook Pro, but when I try to print from the Windows machine, the internet becomes unavailable to the Windows machine until the print job is canceled, and the print job never completes. The problem does not occur from my Macbook Pro, and rolling back to 7.2.1 cures the problem.
Ideas? Anyone else find similar problems with 7.3.1?
    Dallas

You might like to try with changing the port number. After I upgraded to 7.3.1, printing from both our XP and Ubuntu desktops stopped working. I discovered that the port number had to be set to 9102 instead of 9101 that we used earlier.

  • Can't print from Tiger to a shared printer on Mountain Lion

    Hello,
I have a branch office that's running Mountain Lion on one computer and Tiger on the other.  How can I print from the Tiger machine to a shared printer on the Mountain Lion computer?  I should point out that this isn't a problem when the printer is shared from the Tiger machine, just the other way around.
    Thanks,
    Patrick

  • Try to print from windows to a special printer needs to read text

    dear sir or madam,
I am trying to print a pdf file with greek text in it to a printer that needs to read the text and process it at some other task.
I can print from any Windows program to that special printer and if I have a document with images and text, the images are striped down and the text is shown to the output file.
When I try to print a pdf file all the text is shown as images. I can copy and paste the text with no problem why it is not printed as text???
I try to do this with the command line. Is there are other switches I could try?

1: I am sorry about the inconvinience.
The reason you find a check mark on a printer icon is to indicate that its a default printer. If the fax icon has a check mark, everytime you print a fax template will come up.
SOlution: Just right click on the other icon and select it as the default printer.
2: Black lines while printing photos.
CLick on the link below and check if the solution helps you.

  • R-Click print from Windows Explorer doesn't print actual document size.

We publish AutoCAD drawings to PDF routinely.  They are setup in 11x17 landscape format.  They are published (AutoCAD's way of printing multiple at once) to PDF in 11x17 landscape format.  When you open the file with Reader they are in 11x17 landscape format.  You can manually print them after opening from adobe reader in in 11x17 landscape format.  But, when you are in Windows Explorer, right click these PDF file(s) then click print, they are printed in 8.5x11 landscape format.
How can we get these to print in the documents actual format?  We want to be able to R-Click the file(s) and print them from Windows Explorer without having to open Reader.

Does anyone know how they can help me?  We could really use this.

  • Error -  Printing from Windows Vista to OS 10.5.3

I have an HP Photosmart C3100 printer connected to my iMac by USB, and shared over a wireless network. I have no problems printing from my MacBook to this printer, but when I try to print from a Dell XPS with Windows Vista installed, I receive an error that it was unable to connect to the printer because access was denied.
When I first set up this shared printer on the XPS, I printed a page off the internet to test and it printed fine. Then I restarted the XPS and I can no longer print.

My printer is connected to my Desktop(Windows Vista) via USB and I want to share it to My Macbook(Mac OSX Lion) so that I can print documents wirelessly through my Macbook.

  • Can't print from Windows to Mac

I've always had trouble printing to a printer attached to my Mac from Windows. Bonjour used to see the printer, but I could only occasionally actually print. For a while everything but PDFs worked, then even text stopped. As a last resort I tried the "reset printing system" option in System Preferences and then re-added the printer, but now Bonjour doesn't see it at all. I can browse to it via SMB at \\macname\printername, but all I can do is print a test page as Administrator. Regular print jobs and non-admin test pages just disappear - not in the queue on either client or server. Setting it up as an IPP printer instead didn't help.
I'm at the end of my rope here, and any troubleshooting tips are welcome. I'm an IT guy, so technical details are very welcome: TCP ports to check for listeners on, services to look for, registry settings on the Windows end, anything.
    Details:
    Server:
    Mac OS X 10.6.2
HP Photosmart D7560 printer connected via USB using HP Photosmart driver
    Clients:
Windows XP, Windows Vista (32-bit), Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit)
All on the same LAN (wireless), no trouble with TCP/IP connectivity (can ssh into the Mac from the Windows boxes, etc). Both Windows Firewall and UAC are turned off on the Vista/7 boxes, guest access is enabled on the Mac in Sharing preferences...
    Any help welcome.
    Thanks!

I followed the instructions at http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3012.html and am having the same issue. Whether setting up manually or using Bonjour, it seems that you have to select an Apple Driver. The problem is that the Windows 7 does not provide Apple drivers. Luckily, I have an old XP installation CD so I can access the printer drivers I need, but because I already installed the printer drivers from my printers CD Windows will automatically install with that driver, not giving me the "have disk" option.
So I tried to install with Bonjour again, which allowed me to pull up the drivers from teh XP installation disk, but then gave me an error that I didn't have permissions to install the selected printer.
So I deleted the Canon driver for my printer from Windows 7 and went through the process described at http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3012.html again. This time I was able to select the Apple Color Laserwriter printer from the XP installation CD, but I got an error message saying that Windows was unable to find an appropriate driver.
At this point, after a couple hours trying to do a simple file share, which should only take 30 seconds, I'm giving up being able to print to a printer connected to a mac from my Windows 7 laptop. Now I have to open files on the mac from the network file share to print.
Mixed having both Macs and Windows machines on the same network is a recipe for a headache.

  • Printing from Windows XP - indirect connection to printer

I'm trying to print from Windows XP/Boot Camp from my MB Pro. When I print from OSX, I use the printer sharing option and print through my roommate's Mac which is directly connected to the printer (Epson).
In browsing the threads on this issue, I have yet to see one that addresses an indirect connection to the printer.
    Any help would be appreciated.
(Apologies if I'm posting on the wrong section of this forum.)

    I used Bonjour for Windows available from here;
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/bonjourforwindows.html
Set it up and printing is a breeze.
