Borderline Problem

I have a map with county lines that I have traced in Flash MX
2004 Pro. I click on a county to turn it into a movie. No problems.
The thing is when I choose the next county, the border between the
two counties disappears and the 2 counties are joined as one. I
have tried to changed the Line size and it still does not make a
difference.
What is the solution please?

Can't be sure what you've done or what you intend, but
putting the lines on a separate layer above the counties might help
(?).

Device removal error..... The card reader ejects itself

Hello, I'm new to macs and purchased a Mac Mini a week ago. Things were going well until I needed to move pictures from a digital camera to my mac.
I purchased a GE 19 in 1 card reader which is built for mac os x. I hook it up to a usb port and try and look at some pictures. After a few seconds, the card reader ejects itself and I get the "device removal" error. The error will then continue to appear over and over again. When I try to eject the reader using by clicking eject, the reader ejects and only reappears a minute later and ejects itself again. I've tried using another usb port and I know for sure that its not the cable.
If I can't get any prompt answer here, I'm going to call the Genius bar tomorrow morning and ask about the problem. <Edited by Moderator>

More often than not, when a card reader or other similar device disconnects from the USB bus because it is drawing too much power. In a card reader, that would not unusually be triggered not by the card reader itself, but by the insertion of a card causing it to read the content and mount the volume on the Mac's desktop. Part of the problem is that while everything is invariably quoted as USB compatible, many such devices don't entirely comply with the USB standard, resulting in conflicts or load demands which may be borderline, or worse.
You may be able to get more reliable performance from your reader by disconnecting other USB devices when you are trying to use it, or by using it with a powered USB hub. Occasionally, borderline problems can be temporarily resolved by connecting the device to a different port, if necessary switching devices around. Alternatively, it may be that in an attempt to produce a device with the greatest flexibility in terms of media compatibility, they have compromised on components.
I would generally recommend a card reader designed for the specific card type you need. These are typically far more reliable. If you need to use different types of card media, then be prepared to spent on a well established brand with a reputation in this sector of the market, such as SanDisk.

Sometimes when downloading a .pdf file I'm not automatically switched to Acrobat reader, but the screen becomes white with a red borderline left and upper, IE doesn't have this problem

The screen shows the borders of the original site. Beneath the Mozilla workbar the screen becomes white, on the left and upper side there appears a thin red line. Nothing is downloaded, clicking the right mouse button doesn't solve the problem. It doesn't happen everytime I try to load a .pdf file. When I go to the same site using Internet Explorer I do not encouter the same problem, swiching to Acrobat Reader or FoxIt is immediate.

To enable this right you need Acrobat, not the free Reader.
However, starting from Reader X it is possible to add simple markups to any file, unless it has been specifically disallowed by the creator of the file.

Problem getting video from firewire camera

I've written a small app that gets video from camera and
publishes it through FMS(2). It works well with any USB webcams I
could find, but I have problems with firewire cameras. I can select
the camera in Flash settings, and getCamera() returns the
appropriate Camera object (e.g. it has the correct name, "Microsoft
DV Camera", which is what's its name in Windows), but I get
no/blank video.

The same code and the same camera seems to work on OS X. I've
tried out two different firewire cameras on two different Windows
(XP) machines, and they consistently didn't work. They do work in
Flash Media Encoder (I'm not sure if it was written in Flash
engine), or other programs that do capture in Windows; but my
problem is that I need to inject metadata (stream.send()) into the
stream so i can't just use FME :(
Any ideas why this doesn't work? Do firewire cameras have
issues with flash/flex (for the reference, I'm using Flex2/Flash9)
on Windows XP, or am I doing something wrong here?

HI -
MPEG Streamclip does not act as a connection device between your camera and Final Cut.
It is a stand-alone application that converts the files from your camera into files that are useable in Final Cut.
The reason Final Cut does not "see" your camera directly is that the files are not usable in Final Cut - as recorded by the camera. Those same files are seen and imported in iMovie because iMovie is designed to support a wide variety of consumer formats, and converts them automatically on import to a format the iMovie can use. FCE does not have this feature for .mpg movie files. But the format the iMovie converts to is one that is not optimal for FCE.
Once you have converted the files that you want to use in MPEG Streamclip, you can store those converted files on your disk drive in a folder. Then open FCE an go to the menu File > Import > Files and navigate to where you have stored your converted files. Select them and the will be imported into FCE.
It is preferable to import using the MPEG Streamclip method, because the files that iMovie makes, are borderline usable in FCE, and if possible, should be avoided.

Proximity sensor problem -- direct contact with fabric confuses it

On the Twom (and I'd guess the Onem), if the prox. sensor is covered and the phone is locked, it disables all of the phone's buttons until the prox. sensor is uncovered. This is a good thing, because it means the volume can't accidentally be changed in your pocket so long as the phone was locked before it went in your pocket.
Here's my problem: at any small distance, the prox. sensor works exactly as it should, whether facing skin, fabric, whatever. However, if the phone is brought into direct contact with certain fabrics (like denim on my jeans), the prox sensor fails to "see" this and all the buttons remain active. This means that in my pocket, where the phone is fully in contact with the fabric, it usually still lets the ringer volume change and the phone unlock.
Anyone else notice this behavior with their phone, or is it just mine?

you got it right. The sensor sends out a signal, a light, that you can see if you push any of the buttons with the phone locked in low light. My guess as to how it works is it sends out a low-frequency signal, perhaps infared/borderline red light, and if it is reflected back, it recognizes it as being 'covered'. Because it is low-frequency/low-power, it only will recieve the signal back from very short distances. True, most fabric won't block it. If you're wearing tight jeans/pants, then it does work if you put hte screen-side against your leg. But what i did was file down the volume keys anyways. They sit about half as high as they were originally, and now it is very hard for them to be accidentally changed, but they still can be pushed for the camera zoom, or volume change, when i want.

Help DVDSP is creating Horrible MPEG problems

My client called me from the east coast with bad news. All 5,000 DVDs that he just had replicated are basically ruined. The menus are great(52 interactive chapter story points etc...) BUT, the video has pixelating problems almost throughout the whole DVD. It is like it is going in and out of focus, especially on teh transitions. It is a documentary with mostly high rez stills. I edited in FCP5 and exported a self contained QT file like I always do. The vid looks great but when DVDSP encodes it the result is unacceptable. I am authoring a DL DVD-9 for replication. There are many menus and many tracks. The main movie is 2hours and 16minutes long and I set the encoder to 2 pass VBR with Best motion estimation and a bit rate of 4.8/4.8
What am I doing wrong. Is there any solution to my problem. I am in great need as my client wants to replicate an additional 7,000 next week.

OK Guys I have been making DVD's now for over a year on DVDSP and never new I had to convert the audio to AC-3. I have never had clients come back and say the audio did not work. I always use the aiffs that QT makes when I bring into DVDSP from FCP5. I have a very high ratio of compatibility as a I generally duplicate over 1,000 DVDs a year.
It sounds like you got a bit lucky, a combination of maybe the projects the video, who knows. But usually at some point way before 1,000 DVDs problems come up (people get the aPac lesson earlier on due to the old school of hard knocks) We all have been there at one point or another for some issue in DVD SP.
Now you mention duplicate DVDs, do you mean you are duplicating 1,000s of titles or 1,000s of copies? Are you duplicating them or replicating them? If you are in fact duplicating them (though if there is a glass master, probably not) the chances of pixelation/blocking is higher
Why do I need to convert them to AC-3.
There is a limit on the bit rate that machines can handle (throughput) of audio and video. When burning DVDs from you computer the closer you approach that number, the chances can increase of playback problems, depedning on media and player. Your bit rate for the movie uses some and then PCM Audio uses alot. aPAc uses alot less and helps prevent choking.
On replicated discs (not duplicated discs) in theory even the Max rate should play on all DVD players, but there are borderline players that do choke out. And having the highest rtate does not necessarily mean the highest quality.
Also some players act buggy when getting to the edges of DVDs, so if a DVD 5 is fully packed to the gills, as it were, there could be playback problems at the edge. So if you can not pack it as much and have same quality effectively, it is something else that can help.

Also I tried to use compressor 2 to make a m2v file, using mpeg2 woth GOP of 7 and one pass VBR of 4.4/5.2 and it took over two hours.
To get the best quality you need two pass VBR it would seem (at least for this movie where there is alot of motion in many scenes as you described)...do not play with GOP settings or anything else right now, what you should start with is just using the presets as a baseline and tweak from there.
How long is the movie again? Do not have that post up, but it was about 2 HRs 15 Minutes or so? Do not know how much extra material is there after that, but you may be able to get it on a DVD 5 when it is all said aand done.
When I went to load the result into DVDSP, it crashed the software.
There can be many reasons for that also, could be bad assets etc.
What am I doing wrong, I feel like I am an just floating aling with no paddle.
Once again, we have all been there at one time or another. The first thing I think that should be addressed is getting your material straight (good encoding and sounds) then we can step from there. You can alwayss export track descriptions from the original project and use those for marker placement later. So if the assets are encoded clean and well, the next ducks in the line can be tackled

How to avoid borderline coming between page and page in Htmlcss format

I run a report output in HTMLcss format. Output is coming correctly.But what my problem is in the output i am getting some borderline (thick black line) between page and page. While i print the html i am getting this line at end of each page. What is this line and how to remove it htmlcss. i want printout without this line.I am using reports 10g version.

The line is caused by the default HTML code placed in the After Page Value property found in the Report Escapes section of the report property palette. Clear the value to delete the line

Mac Pro 2008 USB port problems - persistent

Hello all,
I have a 2008 Mac Pro - standard config : 2.8Ghz 2Go Ram ATI 2600.
At the outset I did a clean install onto a 1To Seagate drive.
From day 1, and before adding any third party applications, the aluminium keyboard would suddenly stop working. If I changed this for my old G5 plastic keyboard, I had no problem. The aluminium keyboard would work again sometimes if I changed USB port, sometimes only after rebooting.
This problem occurred randomly, a few, or many times a day.
Apple, after going thru' a number of tests with me over the phone, finally sent me a new keyboard (after having sent 2 white plastic models). This changed nothing. I then had a problem with the white plastic keyboard and one day, with a USB drive linked to a USB port I got the error message of having disconnected the disk without having ejected it first. That told me that the problem was not with the keyboard but with the USB ports (power to them?).
I did a clean install (with erase disk 1 pass) under 10.1.5 - the problem didn't go.
I then did a clean install again 10.1.5 followed immediately by upgrade 10.5.2 and the graphics upgrade. I installed no third party apps for 2 days. I had no problems. I installed some apps. No problems for 3 days. I ran all this time on a plastic keyboard. Today I plugged in the aluminium keyboard. No problems for 8 hours and suddenly tonight everythings starts over again.
I've had to do 4 reboots in the last hour. I'm back on the plastic keyboard. But if I lose that like last time I'm pretty convinced that this is a hardware issue.
Curiously I have not seen this problem cited in any forums on the Apple boards and other Mac
sites.
Any ideas ?
I wan't this machine changed. It's my work tool and I can't afford to lose so much time…nor to get so frustrated.

I think there is a problem with the usb ports on the MacPro which I also think is causing some of the bluetooth problems that are being reported around. Here's why.
I have a "base" new MacPro (2xQuad 2.8, 320G drive, etc.). After getting the unit going with the standard usb keyboard and mouse I then paired my Apple wireless keyboard and mighty mouse. All worked fine. Then the problems started. I have security set that requires a log in when booting, however after restarting, or rebooting, the MacPro the wireless keyboard and mouse were no longer recognized and I was stuck at the login screen. If I then connected my original Mac usb keyboard it would not work. The ONLY way I can get the usb keyboard to work is by having it connected when I reboot/restart. Calling Apple support was...well let's just say less than useless. So I have been doing a lot of experimenting on my own. I have finally found out that if I have nothing at all connected to any of the usb ports then the MacPro will recognize my wireless keyboard and mouse (although it does take some time to recognize it). If I connect my usb devices again and reboot...back to the same situation. No connection to my bluetooth devices and my usb keyboard will not work (unless I again reboot with it already attached). Now before you say it's my other usb devices let me tell you what I have....just a Canon printer and a Western Digital USB drive that I use for Time Machine. Both of these units have been working fine for over a year and work absolutely fine when connected to my Mac Book Pro.
I believe the bluetooth device inside is connected to the usb bus internally which is why I think the usb bus is the "root" of the problem. When certain usb devices (and heck it my be almost any usb device) are attached then the usb internal hardware screws up, which kills the bluetooth connection. I believe that this problem may be borderline (not sure if its power, timing, etc.) which is why we see so many issues that are similar, but hard to pin down.
I also believe that Leopard exacerbates this problem (but not sure yet and way too long to detail now....I'm babbling enough).
Right now the only way I can get my machine to work properly is to disconnect my printer and drive, boot the machine and then reconnect them after I have logged in. That sequence seems to work.
I know that isn't any kind of an answer, but you are certainly not the only one and I think this is just another symptom of a larger Apple USB issue. I'm continuing to investigate.

AllSet Prepaid Account Summary Usage Problems

I have to say, monitoring usage on the MyVerizon mobile app, and through the online account page via a traditional browser, the Prepaid usage information is borderline useless. When you look at a list of calls made, etc. I can't see all of the calls I made or received. I get all these calls that supposedly go to Forwarded to VM and are called ONNET? There are literally 10-20 per day, but my phone never rings. No idea what that is. The data usage on the MyVerizon mobile app makes no sense at all (viewing each individual data usage session). The total mobile data usage looks fine, and I feel has been accurate. But the individual usage is terrible.
Bottom line is, I could understand my usage, and the information contained before, when I was on postpaid. But this whole prepaid usage monitoring through the MyVerizon mobile app, and online via a traditional web browser, is a degraded experience. Anybody else find it hard to follow, understand, or have trouble viewing everything you need to?

Why have a Prepaid forum that is not monitored by CSR's who can actually do something about the issues posted by Prepaid customers? I'm not looking for a "sorry to hear about your problem" reply, I'm looking for answers/solutions.
What a ridiculous arrangement. This Prepaid sub-forum should be deleted so customers don't waste their time posting problems here.

SL is obviously a problem!

So, how can I get rid of it? I can't burn dvd's, aperture and photoshop stop in the middle of projects, sometimes whole computer freezes. I want my money back or a fix or something! I bought the family pack but I'm the only one who has installed it. When I first called Tech Support because the whole computer was frozen they said to take the battery out and put it back in. They knew I had the 17" MacBook Pro, no removable battery. Told me 3 times to remove battery. I finally asked them if they worked for Apple? Finally, they got it, ran a system check and said it's fixed. WRONG!
Told me to call back if I still had problems. I do, 10 times a day! Aagghh!
What in the world is going on and how long do we wait for a fix?
Or can I just uninstall SL or will that cause more problems?

Okay! Well, I've done everything possible to try to fix my computer issues which I sense are related somehow to SL. I even spent 3 hours at the Apple store (well, my computer did) where they ran diagnostic tests on everything, could see issues with my computer, the same issues I'm having but said they had fixed them and right before I left the store they installed a performance update of SL. They were very nice and said to call if it kept happening. They said they've not heard of any problems with SL. I think they need to look at this forum.
So, 3 hours down the road, I'm finally home, turn on my computer and start up Safari and sure enough, within 15 minutes the failures started. At least 10 a day if not more. My HP 6380 won't scan but will print if connected with a usb cord. I work on photos in PS and 7 out of 10 times I get the fail notice and shut down when trying to save and sometimes just for giggles my computer fails me. I can't burn DVD's and various other things happen at random times. All it leaves me with are pages of system errors and other things I don't understand.
So, what now? We have 5 other Macbooks in the family, none have installed SL yet (I bought the family pack with the intention of doing so) and none of them have any problems. I don't remember if my MBP came with a Leopard dvd, I haven't found it if it did. I have the Adobe photoshop extended dvd and the apple care dvd and the SL dvd but nothing else. Eric, the Apple guy said to bring it back in if it still was having hiccups but it's 2 hours away and I don't have a trip planned for about 2 weeks.
It's not the end of the world (unless I've been post processing a photo for an hour) but I'd like to just get on and be able to use all the great things my MBP has without it shutting down a few times an hour. It's such a nice computer and I can see everything so much better with the big screen, I love it.
So, I'm back here and willing to try what Donv(The Ghost) was suggesting if I can. Please keep in mind I'm an EMT and can work pretty well on people but I learned typing on a manual typewriter in HS almost 40 years ago. I'm not totally computer illiterate but it's borderline. If you think it would be better to take it back into Eric at Apple so I don't mess it up worse, I'll make a special trip. My friends I work with say that any equipment I use needs to be Kitty proof so I'm quite capable of really making a mess of things.

Problems with dv2799ea touchpad

Hi guys.
My touchpad seems to be clicking by itself even though I have set the tapping to off whilst typing. It seems to click at random points away from the screen which makes typing/general use difficult, although the pointer itself doesn't move. It's a problem even when surfing the web, as it selects websites from the dropdown list itself instantly. Using any kind of dropdown list is borderline impossible.
I have recently attempted to install the chipset drivers from the HP site. I kept getting messages asking if the installation was unsucessful. I've tried system restores, but they keep failing.

HH5 Problems

Its been a while since I had problems with our internet, so we were probably due some....
I'm not trying to blame BT for the problem, I'm just trying to pinpoint what is the problem and how it can be resolved.
The problem we have had with the HH5 has been ongoing for a long period of time. The 'customer help' are borderline useless and everytime they try and be helpful - but there is only so far that the basic 'turn it off and on' standard can get you.
The issues are generally speed based and whilst the stats on the homehub appear to show good speeds available, this is not reflected in terms of output at times.
One particular instance that makes the internet unuseable is when the television is on watching Netflix on the 2.4GHZ channel. As we have 20mb+ this shouldn't be a problem as netflix in itself is only 4/5mbps - so if that and 1 laptop playing low requirement online games (1mbps>) are the only things connected it shouldn't be a problem... however the internet becomes unuseable and the ping goes through the roof and what is even more odd is that the homehub settings page becomes inaccessible.
I should also make clear that the problem is not the television, I was just using this as an example.
The hub also at times has randomly cutout and restarted itself during the day when people are using it as well as resetting itself at night - despite no updates being recieved.
I believe the problem is something in the wireless, as when I have plugged my laptop directly in the problems dissapate. Whilst this is an O.K. solution for myself it does not help the other people around the house who don't have that option, e.g. Ipads etc..
Whilst I suspect the problem is probably something to do with the wireless, I also noted that the hub's version hasn't been updated since December, despite their being numerous releases since this date.
Another ontopic question I suppose is whether other routers are compatible with BT infinity - I know other companies like Sky say you are not allowed to use other routers with their service; is this the same with BT?

VL10 (VL04) problem

Hello All,
When i create a sales order it inturn posts the data on other system, since other system has no master data avaible it generates a new addresscode even though the ship to party is same for 2 sales orders.
When i try to combine the orders for one single delivery it does not combine , as the ship to address codes are different (Though adress content is same).
I want to tell VL10 not to check for Address code instead search for address content , how can i do it?
Where does this check happends in first place?
Would be very helpful to know your comments ont his.

Only some general comments (sorry, no solution):
there are two ways of checks:
- directly coded in SAP-functions (you would need modification)
- dynamical added routines (you can replace them by own logic, you will find most (all?) in various places of transaction VOFM)
Still strange scenario, I guess you might run into further problems. Who is creating invoice? The one with bank data, or the one with confirmed quantities?
Somehow split between central system and logistic system was done at a different borderline at other customers.
But never mind, such decisions are of course very complicate - straight forward ways are of course much simpler, no question.

Problems, DRAM or Powersupply?

I recieved my components lastnight and proceded to build my new pc.
I am (sometimes) recieving a dram timing too tight message (timings are 2.5,3,3,7), but if I try to make any changes in CMOS my PC will not post after I save and exit. This is if I make any changes related to memory/system frequencies.
When the PC does load Windows I am seeing very poor performance in benchmarks. In 3dmark 2001 I am seeing results close to what I had with my P4 1.6 with a Geforce4Ti 4200.
In Sisandra the processor bench returns very poor results, the memory bench looks ok on integer aEMMX, but pretty low on Float aSSE.
Could it be that the 12v amps is out of spec or would a problem with the memory be causing my problems.

Well it's Not your +12V Rail that I am Concerned about, As Much as I am Concerned about your +3.3V Rail , I am Afraid that this is where your Problem is.....Although your +12V Rail being at 18 Amps Rating is Right on the Borderline as far as the +12V Rail is concerned, Your +3.3V Rail (Which By The Way is the Power Rail that the Memory Relies on) and your +3.3V Rail Should Be Around 30 Amps......Now since your Signature Says Neo (P), I am assuming that you Have a Board Similar to my MSI-i865PE-PFISR, The Very First thing that you Should do, is to go Into the BIOS, and on the "Frequency And Voltage" Page, I want you to Increase the DRAM (VDIMM) Voltage to at least 2.65 Volts, and if this is Not Stable, try 2.70 Volts, But I really think that you Should Invest in a Quality PSU, Like an Enermax 465 VE, or a Antec 480W True-Power.....In the Meantime, Increase the Memory Voltage as I said, and Try to Correct your Signature, so Others will Know Exactly What Motherboard you Have ...And I want you to Plug your System Specs. Major problems Neo2 Platinum

Hey guys, so I have the Neo2 motherboard fitted with a 3000+ winchester.
Stock settings.
The rest of my system consists of:
Mushkin pc3200 level 2 (2-2-2-6) x2 512mb sticks
eVGA 6800 GT
Enermax 420w power supply
seagate 160gb sata
Basically, I've been having trouble ever since I installed the motherboard. BSOD opening up a web browser. Running any type of stress test such as Prime95 fails after a very short amount of time. I know it's not the memory, I just slapped the two sticks into my roomates system (running a 3000+ winchester also but with an ASUS SLI motherboard) and they overclocked to 250mhz memory without a problem.
If I try to bump it to 205 the system won't even boot into windows. Anything I can try or do I have to hit up MSI for a warranty? Also how would I go about that? I really can't afford to be without my system for that long and I'm getting really iritated at the poor performance of my system right now. Please help me get this resolved, thanks.

Your RAM timings are way too tight - NF3 boards like the latency pretty tight & eveything else relatively loose. Try something like 3-3-3-10 to start with. And increase your RAM voltage to 2.7v to gain some stability - as the Neo tends to undervolt slightly. NF4 boards, like your buddy's SLI are usually more tolerant of tighter timings...
I would also deactivate the auto settings on the RAM & use "manual" & turn off "aggressive timing" - some RAM hates it.
As a side note - Make sure the "hidden" ati/nvidia speedup option is disabled as well. It's "on" by default - while it doesn't have anything to do with RAM per se, it causes all sorts of problems on it's own!
Then you can use MemTest to find the "sweet spot". If you're not OC'ing - you should be able to run 2-2-2-10 without much of a problem. For any OC I have to use looser timings, even for my 2-2-2-5 rated PC3200 sticks. I have a 3000+ as well - see my sig for some reference.
And as stated above, post your 12v amp rating on your PSU - as general rule it should be more than 20A for best results on the Neo, anything lower is borderline. But since you have an Enermax PSU, that's probably not the problem.
