Borders in pages

Is there a way to put a border around a layout page similar to the way you can in Word?

StarFlower,
if you still have Word available, you could create documents with just the borders you like or need to have. If the borders are from Clipart gallery, you can simply open the document in Pages and voilà, you've got the border in Pages.
The other type requires more steps but you could build your own collection:
* Create a Word document with the border you like or need
* Print the page to Preview
* Crop the whitespace around the border
* Save as Gif or PDF
* Repeat for all borders you would like to have in Pages
Now you can drag your new border to your Pages document and proceed with the step "mark 'Fixed on page'" ff. described in my earlier post.
Well, these borders will look 'Word-like' – maybe that's what you want. If not, you're probably better off with the Borders program that Gerry suggested.

Borders in Pages for Mac look blurry when I export to pdf. How can I make a pdf or JPEG retain the sharp edges and smooth shadows when I export?

The ColorSync filters control the conversion between color spaces of files on the Mac and are used when you export or print to pdf.
The ColorSync Utility is inside the Utilities folder inside the Applications folder.
    see Alternate ColorSync PDF filters.

  • Hello, How can I make borders in pages?

Hello, How can I make borders in pages?

    What version of Pages?
Just make a suitable bordered shape and make it a Master Object in the background.
PS. It is the sure fire way to make your work look amateur, which is why it is not in the Apple templates.

  • How do I make page borders on Pages?

Can anyone explain to me how to make page borders on the Pages program? I typed it into help, but it only told me how to make borders for paragraphs. In Word it was under "Format" Borders adn there were lots of choices of great borders there - both lines and graphics.
I have a mutli-page document and want a nice looking border that will automatically put itself onto all the pages in the document.
    THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!!!

There is no command to place a border on a page. However, it is quite easy to draw a border. Set your margins and then resize the Pages document window so you can see the entire page. Under the view menu, select 'Show Layout' and 'Show Rulers'. Now insert a rectangle or rounded rectangle shape, resize and move it as you like. Open the inspector and select the Graphics tab. Select the background and line colors, etc. Under the Arrange menu, select 'Send Objects to Background' and you'll probably also want to select 'Lock'. You might also want to capture the page (Format > Advanced > Capture) if you intend to make a multi-page document.
Yes, this is a bit more involved than Word but it isn't that big a deal. I've created a template with about 10 different border styles and I pull it out whenever I need it.

  • How to get better resolution on graphical borders in Pages?

When using the «line effect» on a picture frame and choose a «image border», these borders a very pixelated and low resoltion when i.e. printing on a quality printer. Seems to be only screen resolution (100-150 dpi)? Is this a bug in Pages – how to get better resolution for these borders when exporting for example to PDF?

Here you see the issue. The Document's size is A6 landscape, means 14.8x10.5 cm, and it prints and shows really pixelated

  • Borders for pages document

I am trying to change the blue border on the school certificate. Where can I go for info on how to do this? I want to change the color as well as the design. It is so easy in Word to make neat borders for flyers but I am missing something in Pages. Feel pretty dumb!
Also am trying to make many borders like the one on the certificate. Where can I read up on how to do this?

    Hi funlife
    Welcome to the forum.
The border on the Classic certificate is a .pdf file which is locked and which would need to be edited in a drawing program where these things are created:

Mostly in Pages you just drag and drop in graphics, a bit easier than in Word.
To learn Pages you should start with the Pages09_UserGuide.pdf downloadable from under the Help menu where there are also links to Apple's *video tutorials*.

  • Moving table borders in Pages

    Hi Everyone,
I've been creating some quite complex documents with tables in Pages.
I've struck an issue. There seems to be situations where I can no longer drag a column further to the side. There is no apparent reason why this would be.
My purpose is, for example, to expand a cell's width, so I try and drag the right hand wall of the column further right, but it just won't shift.
I know this is vague - I could upload an example of the pages file if that would help.
I'm really keen to be able to resolve this however, because the inability to move column walls whereever I need them is limiting me in the ideal format of the document I'm trying to create.
Any tips or pointers greatly appreciated.
    Cheers!

OK, I've uploaded a copy of the document in question. The issue is not specific to this document, but this is indicative of it:
    http://mcneill.net.nz/web/unit.pages.zip
(had to store it a .zip for some reason cyberduck.app would upload a .pages file as a directory rather than a file).
If you open the document you will see in the middle of the page in a shaded cell this heading:
    TEACHING & LEARNING SEQUENCE
If you select the right hand column divider (Separates it from the "resources" cell), and try and drag it to the right, it just refuses to move.
I can drag it left of course, with no worries, but not right to make this bigger.
I can not, for the life of me work out why
    Again, any help/direction gratefully received.

  • Why are their question marks on my iWeb page borders?

Hopefully this is an easy one that has been answered, but I can't find any postings. Anyone know why suddenly the borders around pages, text and pictures are now clear/white with question marks in them? We have changed nothing, though this does (coincidently or not) coincide with the .mac to .me transition.
    Any help is appreciated.

Well, I seem to be having the same problems. I have question marks for album covers and picture frames. Also, I can't get slideshows to play. All I get is a black screen. Going back in to republish, there are no options to play slideshow. I can't imagine remaking my whole website over, just to maybe find that it still doesn't work. It seems like a glitch that should be resolved by Apple. If they can't fix it, I'd rather find another place to publish it, so that I'll know it's got a chance of working.
I couldn't even send feedback to apple this morning. They must be getting a lot of complaints.
The problem seems to be on them, and I don't feel like it's right to suffer the inconvenience, or have to remake the whole site over. I hope they'll come thru with a fix for this and make things right.
Am I the only one who's had a problem contacting feedback?

  • How can I have independent columns on a Pages 5.2 layout?

Instead of using a table to format my text, I would like to use a 2 column layout. I can create the layout, but the 2 columns are linked i.e., I type in the first column until it is full when it then starts filling the second column.
I would like to input text in each column independently. The main text would be in the second column with callout-like text in-line (aligned) in the first column.
Is there a way of doing this in Pages 5 without having to resort to InDesign or some other complex tool?
    Thanks in advance.

If you don't need multiple lines in the initial item, you can construct this with hanging indents and tabs.
Or a Table with no borders.
Pages can be difficult sometimes with aligning lines across columns as it doesn't have baseline align like ID.
Pages 5 has superior anchored textboxes to Pages '09 so that could be another method. Can't index the contents though and you have all the other problems of PitA 5.

  • IPhoto '11 Photo Album with Full-bleed Pages?

    H o w d y  ~
When creating an 8.5"x11" album in iPhoto '11, is it possible to remove the one-quarter inch white border that appears along the top, right, and left sides?  When viewed in iPhoto, my album has no white borders [the pages are full-bleed], but the proof .pdf has these borders [though not along the bottom, oddly enough].  This is especially problematic as these borders cut into the photos.  Attachments are screenshots of an album page viewed in iPhoto [no borders] and that same page viewed in the .pdf [borders have automagically appeared].  … Enlightenment appreciated! . . . .

==>  [Please disregard the above.  Turns out the white borders were an artifact of the method I used to produce the .pdf (command-P; Save PDF).  When using option-Buy Book, the actual version sans print borders was created.  Mea culpa!] . . . .

  • Two-page spread for non-Apple printed book

This is probably going to sound complicated:
I'm in a small program, and we want to create a yearbook, which we decided to do ourselves since there's so few of us. The book will have pages of events and groups, of course, but also "profile pages" where photos focused on a single person are included.
Two of the people in the program are married to each other. Naturally, I want their pages to be side-by-side. More than that, though, I want to have a picture right in the middle of their two pages that I got from their wedding. In the picture, they have their arms linked, so the idea is that the gutter of the book will separate the photo with the man on the left (and his "profile page" will then go on the left), and the woman on the right (with her profile page).
I hope that makes sense so far.
The question is, how do I ensure I lose as little as possible in the gutter if I'm printing with a service other than Apple? Apple's just a bit too expensive for over a dozen books, so I'm looking at mostly Inkubook or Viovio. I've already set up a custom book in Aperture with the page sizes set to 8.7" x 11.2" (to account for 0.1" trim) and an inside margin of 0.25" (for the gutter).
Viovio has a suggestion on their website that images overlapping two pages should have a portion duplicated on either page, with the size of that duplication being equal to the size of the gutter (so the right image duplicates 0.25" of the photo on the left and the left duplicates 0.25" of the photo on the right).
Does that sound like it will work? And then, should I have the same photo on both pages with a duplicated area of 0.5" (the two gutters) or 0.7" (gutters plus trims)? To that end, how do you even measure distances in Aperture - I don't seem to be able to find a ruler of any kind, which makes putting equal spaces between photos and borders on pages very hard as well.
If that doesn't make sense, which I know it may not, let me know and I'll try to clear it up...

Two page spreads are tricky and will depend on how the binding is done by the third party printer. If you look closely at the PDF file created by Aperture for books, you'll notice that the individual pages of a two page spread do not absolutely bisect the image you've aligned across the two pages. Rather, the inside binding-side edges will give you a little extra bleed, so that in binding with the book pages spread open, you'll see one continuous image without white space.
I can't say for certain because I've not used a printer other than Apple, but I would imagine that there is variance from printer to printer w/respect to this center margin.
Of course, I could be entirely wrong.

  • Making fancy borders

Can somebody please tell me how to make more fancy borders in pages? All I am able to do are plain old black ones. I would like to do some shaded, or shadowed....etc. Thanks so much.

You can enable all of the frames & strokes “hidden” within the iWork & iWeb applications using this free installer.

  • Help with Pages chart

You used to be able to make a horizontal line within a chart a different color and thickness (using 'Inspector').  How do you do that now with the new update?

Are you using "chart" to mean "table?"
If that is the case, I don't think you can directly select cell borders in Pages 5; instead, you select an adjacent cell or range of cells and use the Border controls in the Cell pane of the inspector to change the appearance.
