Boring question! iPad 3 or 4?

Hi all, I have a total of 12 Apple devices...all great! My iPad 2 has, and continues to, perform well!
My wife has an iPad 3 and recently returned from a holiday in Noumea.
I must say, when she loaded up her pics, the display and the images surprised me quite a bit.
Sure, I have read all the stuff on the Retina display, and had only used her iPad 3 briefly some months back.
I happily convinced my self my display was quite acceptable.........and it is!!
BUT, last night her pics of the Noumea harbour, beahes and people, blew me away! The pics were taken on a fairly new
Samsung (sorry!!).....her Nikon is in for repair...and while she does not claim to be a photographer.....I guess I do!!
I have a range of Nikon DSLR's and the images are little short of amazing......but her results as shown on her 3, were outstanding!!
As a consequence I have decided it's time to sell my 2 and update.
To what you ask? Well initially I thought a new 4, but seeing some excellent re-furbs on Apple's website, made me stop and think!
I recently bought a refurb MacBook Air from Apple and it seems as NEW! I am delighted with the display and portability.
So, while I have studied carefully the blurb on the 4, I question the value of spending the additional $200+ for a new 4!
Yes the lightening connector would be great, my new iPhone 5 connector is terrific, but, apart from the chip upgrade, it's hard to see the value in the 4!
Any views on this??

You are not talking to Apple on this forum. We are all users here. First thing it would try is to reboot your iPad.
Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart. See if that fixes your problem.
If that doesn't help I'd contact Apple Support.

Question iPad 2, mail problems

I just bought my ipad2, but I don't know if I did something wrong because I can see my emails complete, only in the left side show the emails but on the right column only show who sent it but when I try to see more it doesn't allow me! What can I do? Also I only can use it in landscape?

Try turning the account off and on : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'
If that doesn't work then try closing the Mail app completely : from the home screen (i.e.not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Warranty expiry question ipad

Hi,
I bought an ipad2 last year - purchase date 25th November. Its just developped a fault today. So Im currently covered by the 12 month warranty. The only problem is the only available slot I can take it into an apple store to is on 29th November. So probably after the warranty expiry.
My question is - if I book the slot now prior to the end of warranty - does that mean its still covered even though apple will only be investigating properly after the expiry date?

GIve them a call before hand, but shouldn't be a problem.
Apple have few days (14 i believe) "grace period", where even if warranty expired, you are still eligable (may need a bit of convincing though )

Question iPad 1 users

why can't IOS be updated to latest IOS, the iPad is just hardware what makes the iPad 1 not except any newer version then 5.1.1

If Apple allowed iOS 7 to be installed on an iPad 1, the forums here would be full of complants on how horrible it performs. It's quite sad that the usable lifespan of devices is getting shorter and shorter...I've been using PCs since ~1980 and I've never seen hardware become obsolete so quickly.

Dumb Question: iPad or MacBook Pro

I just purchased an iPad and I love it. But then I really started to think about its usefullness vs a new MacBook Pro.
Let me add that this would be my first mac coming from a pc. Its a move I've wanted to make for sometime. The problem is I'm in no way considered a power user. the macbook would be used used mostly for ripping music, surfing and email, so Im having a hard time justifing the cost factor. But I really want a MacBook.
Just thought some of you could provide some insight.

I was a PC user as well before I bought my iPad. I liked it so much I bought myself a Macbook Pro 13. After that, I gave my iPad to my wife and my wife said she loved it.
The iPad is a great machine and has its uses. The following are the main reasons why I prefer the Macbook Pro 13.
1. MAC OS - I love it. I used Win 7 before and I am still using it but I now prefer the MAC OS. I feel the MAC OS is more elegant. And you can dual boot Win 7 or XP as well with bootcamp.
2. Larger screen size - I feel the iPad's screen size is a little small(9.7" is not bad but 12" will be perfect for the iPad). The larger screen on the Macbook Pro 13 makes things more enjoyable.
3. Flash support - I visit web sites that require flash so having flash is a major plus.
4. Keyboard and the touch pad - iPad's on screen touch keyboard is actually very good. But the keyboard and the touch pad on the Macbook Pro are a dream to use. I especially like the big multi-touch mouse pad. It is just wonderful.
5. Speed - the iPad is not slow but the Macbook Pro is much faster.
6. The Macbook Pro is a full function computer. The iPad is not mean to be a laptop replacement anyway. And there are things the iPad does better than the Macbook Pro. The iPad is much more portable and it will be my first choice when going for a trip. And nothing beats the iPad if you want to surf the web lying on the sofa or the bed. But for me, the Macbook Pro is overall a more useful machine.
Both the iPad and Macbook Pro are useful and they are very different and don't overlap much. I use my Macbook pro more now. But sometimes I still reach out for the iPad. But it is getting harder and harder to get it away from my wife's hands now .
As for between the Macbook and the Macbook Pro. I feel the Macbook Pro is worth the extra money. It looks nicer. Feels more expensive. And the lighted keyboard is a major plus which is the main reason I choose the Macbook Pro. It is just such a useful function if you need to use you laptop in the dark.
I think you will love the Macbook Pro. If money is not an issue, it will be nice to have both the iPad and the Macbook Pro. If I can only have one, I will pick the Macbook Pro.

Does iPad 2 have onboard video controller? What is it? I didn't see it in the spec sheet online here..
I was under the impression it has a dedicated processor for the video. Laptops for example has their own onboard video controllers either from ATi (AMD) or nVidia while some have different brands that built-in to the motherboard. How is it layed out on the iPad 2?
Ultimately, I want to find out that, if iPad 2 video controller is beefy enough, it should have potential of rendering 1080i HD video files with proper de-interlacing using some high-end third party software (don't think any are available yet) for playback.

Price is not necessarily the most reliable indicator of quality. There some absolutely amazing free apps. Very, very few iOS apps are priced in the $30-$40 dollar range. Those that are are usually highly specialized apps. Anything over $10 is considered pretty high priced for a normal iOS app.
A much better way to judge the quality of an app than looking at the price is to read the reviews in the App Store, do a little searching with your favorite search engine, check out the developer's site. Or, my usual method, if it's less than three bucks, I buy it and see how it works. I figure the time I would have spent researching it is worth more than the $3.00.

No. In iOS, Reminders and Calendar are separate apps (and they will be in the upcoming new release of OS X, Mountain Lion, as well).

Once again a boring question?

i am trying to creat a about window such as when one clicks the about photoshop cs by going to the help menu and he gets a window with transparency.
I created a JLabel with an imageicon of gif having transparency and added it to the contentpane of JDialog. I also set the JLabel component to setOpaque(true) but it still shows a white background.
How can I fix it?

This should be in the Swing forum, right? Anyway, I think that you may have to
resort to calling native code to get a truly transparent dialog. The next best thing
to that would be to use Robot to take a screen capture and use that image
as your dialog's background. The is nearly as effective, if you make the window
not movable.
Here's a demo where I use the screen capture effect to make the window disolve.

Boring Question

Still no joy. Many other emotions by 3.30 am last night. The

Well I can scroll. I can css. But I still can't do both at
once, particularly when the text is loaded through an external
actionscript (.as) file. But even if I could get a simple scroller
to apply css I think I could figure it out.

Thanks Liam. After the second ap download it asked me three security questions on iTunes and on my MAC it allowed me to set up these with no error on the third question. iPAD 3 now downloads apps fine.
Apple really need to sort out this issue or provide guidance on this. Two days of the unit not really being fit for purpose - what use is an IPAD without the ability to download aps.
Also NO Response from Apple via online tech support and it's now been nearly 24 hours - I was told by telephone support I would get a response within 24 hours or less, as also stated in the email response too!??
It would be good to get a formal response from Apple on this rather than radio silence.

Another ZM charging question : ZM doesn't stop glowi

Hi,
sorry for another boring question about charging Zen Micro.
I usually charge my ZM over the AC-plug because the USB-charge is too slow. If I plug the ZM into the charger it starts with this "breathing" glow (you know what I mean ).
Does the micro suppose to stop "breathing" after 3-4 hours of charging ? Because my micro does it but then the led-light doesn*t simply go off... the continue glowing nut with the "normal" glow (not "breathing").
Is it bad for the micro if I let it plugged into the charger over night ans it glows for 7-8 hours (I know that it ist ok for the battery but how is ist for the leds ? ).

"it happened to my micro once, just do what i did. Unplug it(it turns off the light), then plug it back(it turns on ur player automatically), then just turn it off. Never happened to me ever again(hope not jinxing it)"

Ipad 3 not working on FaceTime and messages

Well, only recently whenever I open messages on my ipad 3 it opens a small window that requires my apple ID, when I enter it it take me to a new window that says so thing along the lines of "would you like people to reach you on messages thought this email?" When I select yes it takes me back to the slide in which I enter my Apple ID password, the exact same thing happens with FaceTime. I'm not sure what to do and couldn't find the same question, ipad 3 btw. When I try access them in setting it has the same login view.
