Boris 3D Titler Went Walkies?

My Boris 3D titler (the one you get standard from the bottom right hand pull-down in the video viewer) is missing! Anyone know how to get it back? Ive havent done any reinstall or anything like that!

I'm having the same problem! I havent been able to fix it either! I dont have the boris either. I was having a render problem. Apple SOLD me a replacement FCP disc, since I couldnt find mine. but of course, their replacement disc didnt work, so I sent everything to the trash, and pulled it out, and so my other problem was fixed, but now I was happy! I can finally RENDER and use FCP
but now I have the Boris problem!
dang, but I see now really is that I have the Text, title bundles, and etc. but I just really need to find where to put them, hopefully that should fix the problem I would hope!

Possible that BORIS 3D title tool has EXPIRED?

I had been using the Boris 3D title tool in my fcp 5.0 a few weeks ago. Love it.
Now that I'm back on the project and needing to use it again, it doesn't appear under my effects tab. (neither the effects drag down menu or the effects tab within my project window)
Is it possible it was only a trial version? Why would it not appear as an option?
Any ideas would be welcome.

I'm able to open the previous 3D titles, but I can't find the Boris tab anywhere.
Is there a way to save the existing Boris 3D title into my effect favorites so that I don't have to keep going back to the old sequence to initiate a new title?

Boris 3D titles disappear when more than one font/size used

I've had a LOT of two-line supers created in Boris 3D (the first and second line are either different fonts or two different sizes of the same font) go invisible without any reasonable explanation.
This has happened on 3 or 4 different Macs of various configurations, running both FCP6/Leopard and FCP7/Snow Leopard. It's not limited to just one typeface (which is what I thought at first)... it even happens with Mac basic system fonts.
What happens is: I or another editor will create the supers...everything appears fine. They render fine. But if the project moves from one edit suite to another (running the same version of FCP), any unrendered supers become invisible. Clips are on the timeline, but will not display on-screen. Even retyping or re-rendering them doesn't make them visible... the only way to get them back is to completely re-make the super from scratch. Ironically, I can use exactly the same fonts, and it will work if I start over from scratch.
Beyond that, if I double-click on any rendered super, the second line will disappear from the Boris plug-in text window, and the super will go unrendered and will disappear.
Copying and pasting a rendered super into a new location on the timeline also won't work.
We've now had three or four feature-length documentaries over the last 18 months where EVERY super in the entire show has required retyping from scratch, at major cost and expense.
Since the problem has occurred in several edit suites, I'm assuming this is not a problem unique to our projects.

Boris Calligraphy-TITLE 3D Keyframing

Hi all. I read an article by Ken Stone about using title 3d to make text zoom out of the page using the motion key settings. I am able to do it in the viewer and canvas but despite hours of using different combinations I cannot get it to work in the timeline. All forums indicate that the manual included with FCE is wrong with regard to keyframing. Even on the Boris website I could not get a definitive answer to the problem.
Has anybody any experience of using title 3d in FCE or knows of any good sources of info.

The Timeline and Canvas are representations of the same thing. When the Canvas is playing what you see matches the playhead in the Timeline.
You should be able to get those titles to fly around the screen and right off screen or even get smmaller or bigger as it does its thing, throw in a spin as well if you like.
You have to enable Image+Wireframe before starting.

Boris Calligraphy, Title 3D, and Final Cut Express HD 3.5

So I'm working through Tom Wolsky's book (Final Cut Express HD 3.5 editing workshop) and I just got to lesson 12 to work with Title 3D. Well when I go to start the lesson, I try to call up the Title 3D from the generator menu in the viewer. The pop-up displays all the different selections except for Boris/Title 3D. I can't find it anywhere on the program. I've searched in my preferences folder on my HD and I noticed that the BorisFX plugins where installed and that Title 3D (in the Final Cut Express preferences folder) was also there. I've tried discarding the plugins and reinstalling them and that doesn't even seem to work. Does anyone have any idea why my FCE will not let me access Title 3D? Anyone else come across this problem? Tom, what do you think?

Looks like the QuickTime 7.4 update broke a number of things including the Boris plug-ins. Basically they have lost their bundle flags so are not being recognised by Final Cut Express (or Pro). If you look at one of the replies to the above post there's a link to a file you can download which contains plug-ins with the bundle flag set - here's a direct link to the file:

Just copy the Title 3D.bundle and Title Crawl.bundle files to the following folder, overwriting the existing ones:
/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Express Support/Plugins
This fixed the problem for me.

Boris 3D titler missing

Using FCP 5.0 and am in the middle of a project. The Boris titler 3D has disappeared from the video generator, text, menu? The download to reinstall boris on the FCP support site states it is for version 3.0 of FCP. And it doesn't seem to work anyway I get an error message stating that files are not found. How to I get my titler back? Is it a painful reinstall of FCP or is there an eaiser way?

To reinstall Final Cut Pro effectively, you need to remove the application and its receipts, then install Final Cut Pro and use Software Update to install additional updates.
You don't have to remove everything that was installed with Final Cut Pro. Follow the steps below to completely reinstall a fresh copy of Final Cut Pro. Note: Make sure that you have your installation discs and serial number handy before starting this.
1. Open the Applications folder.
2. Drag the Final Cut Pro application to the Trash.
3. Go to /Library/Receipts.
4. In the Receipts folder, select the "FinalCutPro.pkg" file.
5. Choose View > as List to view the contents in a list.
6. Click the Date Modified column header so you can easily see all of the receipts that were installed at the same time as Final Cut Pro.
7. Drag the FinalCutPro.pkg receipt to the Trash, as well as any other items that have the same modification date within 3 minutes of the FinalCutPro.pkg's modification date.
8. Click the Name column header to sort the list alphabetically.
9. Drag any other receipts whose names begin with "Final Cut Pro" to the Trash.
10. Insert your Final Cut Pro installation disc and install Final Cut Pro.
When finished, use Software Update (under the Apple menu) to update your software to the latest version.

Boris 3d titler

Is it me or since FCP 5 came out, the 3d titler is very bogged down? I used to use it a lot for disclaimers and quick titles but now it seems to want to freeze up when I try to use it. Not to mention the leading problem when you open a project from a previous FCP version.
I have started using LiveType as a work around but this gets tricky when you copy a sequence and make changes to the livetype clip. I updated in all sequences using that LT clip.

How did you upgrade to FCP 5? Just install over the current version? you might think about doing this:

Problem installing FCP 6, Boris Caligraphy titling problem

Bought FCP 6, at Apple store... can't install -- its grayed out--- and checkbox. HELP! Please. Using iMac OS X 10.6.8 amd had to dispose of academic version of FCP7 along with 'little snitch' before trying to install FCP 6. This was shipping new in box, but is ALSO an academic version. You bought FCP6 (Studio 2, I assume) from Apple? It has been superceded for like 4 years...
The last time I installed FCS2 on an iMac, I had a problem with the prokit version. Look here

Boris title tool does disappearing act

Usually I use 2 monitors but one is in the shop. Now when I go to open Boris 3d title tool, the tool opens up off screen (I know this because when I use expose it comes back to my only monitor). There seems to be no way for me to get the 3d title tool to open in my one and only monitor.
I have done all of the usual stuff - trash FCP preferences, use disk utility, but no luck. Anyone run into this? Are there Boris preferences to trash?
Man, this really blows. All I had to do was alter 4 titles and I was done.
Oh, that's the way it goes.

Try rebooting with Command-Option-P-R held down. If that doesn't work, try Command-Option-O-F. When a gray screen with a prompt comes up, type:
reset-nvram (Return)
reset-all (Return)
Be sure you haven't left an adapter attached to the monitor port when doing this.

Boris Title 3d after export....

...looks squeezed and distorted - even to the point that it gets clipped at the top and bottom of the frames on the frames that have a bunch of text.
All updated software, late 2007 MP, sequence is HDV 1080p, 23.98, no field dominance, and I am trying to export the sequence using compressor and the iPhone VGA preset.
This sequence and workflow is the same as several other sequences that I have exported in the past, just different content - but otherwise the settings are all identical and even the titles that are being distorted are simply copies from other sequences that have worked in the past. This is really like one of those "all of a sudden" things.
This is driving me nuts because everything else in the exported quicktime looks great (images, HDV video, imported Motion graphics), but just those Boris 3D titles are squeezing and distorting - and they've never done that before. I read in one thread about someone mentioning that the Boris titles are using square pixels -- true, but still this has never been an issue upon export in the past. Anyone have any ideas - I'm under a mild deadline and this is making me look like a moron - usually not that hard to do though, I admit. Thanks in advance.

I've been having this same problem for years. Exporting a timeline, from FCP version 5 and higher, using compressor to create quicktimes always squeezes/distorts titles created with boris. If I use quicktime conversion in FCP, the titles look fine, so it seems like it must be a compressor issue. I will try exporting a stand alone quicktime then re-importing that into compressor to see if that works. For big batches, it's not really efficient to export a bunch of fullres qt's only to then re-import them into compressor to output web qt's. I'm using fcp 6.0.5 with osX 10.4.11 on a mac pro quad core. Does anyone else have insight into this?

Boris Title 3D keeps crashing my FCP?

My Boris 3D titling tool keeps crashing my FCP????? And when I relaunches FCP it doesn't even bring me back to the same project???

Boris Title 3D does not appear in FCE 3.5 viewer generators menu

Hello. I've recently installed FCE HD 3.5 (all the options with LiveType, SoundTrack, etc.), and now I'm learning it.
But now I cannot find the Boris 3D text generator under viewer generetors pop up menu. I'm pretty sure that 3D title is installed. Please, any help on how to get Boris under generators menu would be greatly appreciated.

I've done all of that last night: completely deleted all the items (files, folders, plists, prefs, etc) as described on Apple's site. Then reinstalled FCE with all the related components. Still NO BORIS!
I think there is no point to bother people anymore on this forum. I really appreciate your efforts to help. This must be some kind of unfortunate "hidden bug" on my system that I'm going to have to live with.
As a last resort I might try to stop by the nearest Apple store and try to find someone who knows FCE, etc. Or I might try to contact Apple, file the bug report, or something like that (can some one tell me how to go about it?).
If all else fails, I'll just use LiveType for my titling needs. Would this be a viable option?

Keyframe Boris Title 3D

Is it possible to keyframe the controls of a Boris 3D title? I want to have a word glow into the screen, then fade into the normal font, and I thought this might be a good way to it.

Have to constantly render titles . . .

Hello -
Does anyone know why all of my subtitles would need to be rendered everytime I move something in a sequence?
I'm thinking it has to do with their format not matching the sequence. Am I right? I tried futzing around with the aspect ratio, but haven't yet noticed a difference. Anyone have suggestions?

What are these, titles that you've made using the title tool? If so are you repositioning/resizing them using the motion tab? This will cause you to need to render. Have you tried using the Boris 3D Title tool. It gives you a lot more options like drop shadow, etc. Then when you place it in the timeline use the control tab to resize and position without needing to render.
Did you make these outside of final cut? If so then you're probably correct that the settings don't match the sequence and you'll have to render.

Boris 3D issues

has anyone had any issues in Boris 3D where you try to highlight the text and can't.
I have reopened FCP many times to see if the system just got bogged down but that didn't solve it.
Boris is acting very weird. If I try to open another piece of text I created, sometimes I can highlight the text (ie: to change color, size, etc.) but the highlight does not appear normal. it is off center. any suggestions?

I don't recall if there is a separate checkbox item to install Boris Calligraphy (Title 3D and the other Boris FX items) in FCP 5.1. Assuming there is not, then you'll have to reinstall Final Cut in order to reinstall the BorisFX titling generators.
There are two folders in /Library/Application Support named BorisFX and Boris FX. If you decide to reinstall Final Cut, you'll need to trash both folders first.
Unless someone has a new idea, I'd say you are at that point.
