Boris Calligraphy - what is key to seeing adjustments in canvas

I've successfully been working through the lessons in Tom Wolsky's great book on FCE 4, in the lesson I am able to see changes made in the Controls tab reflected in the canvas, so I can set distance (type farther or nearer) and see the change in canvas. I have the Titling clip selected in the timeline where it has been 'superimposed' over the video.
Problem: when I copy and paste that title into my own video then superimposing it over the video (moving it from the viewer over the canvas and dropping it onto superimpose) and watching that it is selected and everything is the same (to me) then making changes in the Controls tab in the viewer are not reflected in the Canvas window. The text in the Canvas window just sits there and does not change when I move controls.
How come it works in one project and not in the next?

You have to make sure that the text clip in the Viewer window comes from the Timeline; place the Timeline playhead on the text clip, then double-click the clip in the Timeline to load it into the Viewer. Now when you adjust the various parameters in the control tab, you should see them in the Canvas window.

Boris calligraphy

Hey new user here. I purchased final cut studio about a month ago. I used A bunch of Boris trial products and after getting rid of them I managed to also get rid of my boris calligraphy.
Does anybody know a way to reinstall them without reinstalling final cut studio all over again? I see title 3d and title crawl but I am missing Text Scrambler and Vector Shapes. I am using final cut studio 5.04.

I don't have a definite answer, sorry, just a suggestion or two.
You might try using spotlight on your installer disks and see if Boris products turn up, I think they are isolated installations.

What is "key date" in the definition of query. Where does it come in picture and I see that it has value varaible?

This date is relevant for the time dependant master data if you are using it in your query.

You can use a variable in the key date and then the master data suuplied to the query (like nav attr) will be as per the date you have specified.

Well I am truly staggered, I have tried this on two different MacBook Pros, with three different external USB optical drives. Thank you for responding. I'm not sure if my complete original message came through. It was just today that an automatic update notice came through, and I installed the update that was offered. So I have to guess that version — 10.1.10 — is the latest version that's available to me. My OS is 10.6.8. Again (in case the complete message isn't appearing), I'm on an older Mac, specifically MacBook 2.1. Perhaps this is the problem, and I never should have updated a few years ago. If so, I wonder if there's any way I can go back to that earlier version that worked well for me, rather than the last few versions, which have not.

Keys-u-see keyboard

My partner has low vision and was given a Keys-U-See multimedia keyboard. Of course, as with most Adaptive Technology solutions, it is designed for PCs only. She can use the normal keys fine on our macmini with 10.6.8 (after I exchanged the command and option keys). However, I cannot figure out how to program the multimedia keys to work.
The mutimedia keys (buttons) are

Assuming I can get instructions on how to map the keys refernenced above, I would like to map 3 of the keys (Search, Previous, Next) to do different things depending on the app I am using when the key is pressed.
But at this point, I'd just like some help with mapping the keys in general. Anyone have any ideas?

You want a utility such as QuickKeys, Spark, other that can map function keys, command keys, option keys, control keys, etc... to function. Generally speaking they can provide either global assignements, or tie the key function to a specific app.

You can get the Equivalent Network Password from the menu options of the AirPort Utility as follows:
Start the AirPort Utility; select the AirPort, and then, select Manual Setup.
From the Utility's menu bar, select Base Station, and then, Equivalent Network Password to reveal the hexidecimal key code.

Thanks for the reply but there is no option tab or wake for administration use in mountain lion 10.8.2, I only have the wake for network access which is on, I didnt used to have this problem before snow leopard now I have to manually re-login after computer wakes and then access remotely ........

What determine whether I see 'keep both' or 'skip/stop/replace' as options when moving files??

Recently I've rolled over the file numbers on my camera again, so moving new photos around often causes filename conflicts: 'An item named "_XXX1234.jpg" already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the one you're moving?"
What controls whether I see "Keep both files" as an option (where Finder just adds a 2 suffix to the filename of the newer item being added) vs "skip/stop/replace"?
When I'm trying to copy distinct new items with duplicate filenames, I want to use 'keep both files'; when I'm grabbing a mass of files, moving to a common storage place, and want only the new files to copy over, so that finder does the hard work of figuring out which ones are new/missing from the new folder, I want the option of 'skip' instead.

The option-click 'copy file' does not change the dialog box from just clicking and dragging without option--still only seeing the skip/stop/replace.
I do use iPhoto, but find the file structure does not follow my patterns of use, so do not let it organize the files--for those many, inevitable times when I want to access the images directly without having to export the images first. I also have Adobe Bridge, which has a file renaming feature. But I started seeing this option of 'keep both' recently--I think since my install of Mavericks when 10.9.3 came out, and determined it does something very helpful to me, but can't figure out how to make it show up consistently. For some things it would be nicer than always just making a new iPhoto library when the file numbers start over again.

I have bought yesterday a version of FCE4 (a DVD) and I can't install FCE4, I have the following message "Install failed : run preflight script for Boris Calligraphy 2.1 Plugings."
Remarks : I'm french... I don't known if it's important, but all install messages are in french.

Win 7 Home Premium with X-Fi Titanium - What Should I be Seeing in Device Manager Under Sound...

[Just changed configurations. Went to a single graphics card and moved my X-Fi Titanium Pro to a now open slot well away from the new graphics board. New graphics drivers went in smoothly and show up correctly in Device Manager. The audio seems to be working but it looks like Win 7 installed a bunch of generic "High Definition Audio Device" drivers in addition to a single driver for "Creative SB X-Fi". So what I have now is the one X-Fi driver and four "High Definition Audio Device" driver entries. This appears to be different compared to the Device Manager entries that existed before I changed slots.
Anyone know what I should be seeing? If this is wrong what's my best course of action? Uninstall all the Creative stuff and then reinstall?

It seems to me that you didn't disable your onboard audio device on the BIOS.. The other high definition audio device can be the HDMI devices for your videocards...
But, if there's a X-FI among the audio devices, it should be working properly. It's the only device the X-Fi presents on device manager...
So, check if your onboard sound card can be disabled via BIOS, and the try deleting the other devices in device manager and restarting the PC. If the X-Fi is being detected more than one time, it will solve the problem!

What gains do you see with 16GB of RAM

Having 6 GB of RAM in my MacPro 8 core, what gains would I see by ramping the RAM to 16GB.

CS3 will make great use of 10GB RAM. Except that Adobe forgot to include - and hasn't yet posted -

We're working on getting them available to users ASAP. Adam
OS X is happy to use available memory as cache (and more than just 8GB as well)... for those users working with large 1GB and larger files where it really helps so you can avoid to some extent your scratch RAID. And some people still need to use their expensive SCSI or SATA RAID of multiple 10K/15K drives. May seem extreme but.
And as Barefeats noted last week, CS3 is a good candidate for 8-Core.
