Boris continuum de-interlacer question dv 30fps to 24fps film conversion?

Just wondering what people think about converting NTSC interlaced dv video to film video at 24fps with a deinterlacer like the one that comes with boris continuum that does a simulation pulldown. Think I should just use a good deinterlacer or do you think I should convert my video to 24fps?
If everyone thinks I should do the pull down then I plan to use debug frameserver to encore and I will make a progressive dvd, does this sould like a good option.

And it will soon be getting even better… I am planning some updates for my dv2film functions: Better and faster deinterlacing, more accurate and faster motion compensation, multiprocessor optimization, so stay tuned!

  • Boris Continuum on Premiere Pro CS5.5

Hello folks, I was checking those Boris Continnum Filters / Effects, and I managed to get
then working on After Effects, but according to their website, they will work on PP too.
As far as I know they all got the aef or something like that extension, that is normally
    used with After Effects.
Also the setup will put the files on "MediaCore" folder, nor After Effects or Premiere
will read the filters from there.....
To get it working on After Effects I had to move the Boris Folder to
Adobe After Effects CS5.5\Support Files\Plug-ins\Extensions\Boris Continuum Complete 8
From there they will work ok.
Are they really work on Premiere Pro?    And if so, how I can managed to do that?
    Thanks

    Hello Dennis
I find Premiere CS5 to be the most stable software Adobe has ever released, my computer completely flies now.
Just want to thank you for a great job with CS5 and your presence on the forum.

  • AE CS5 and Boris Continuum Complete 6.0

I have AE CS5 64 bit win 7. I have Boris Continuum Complete 6.0. is it possible to use it? can i install it manually?

No. BCC 6 is 32bit and there is simply no way to run 32bit plug-ins in 64bit AE. You need to upgrade. BCC 8 is coming soon, so this may be a good chance...

  • Boris Continuum Complete 3 compatible with FCP5.1

I'm in the midst of deciding whether to upgrade from FCP5.0 to FCP5.1, only because I have a big project in FCE 3.5 which won't open in FCP5.0
At any rate I already have Boris Continuum Complete 3 installed in FCP5 but was wondering if it is compatible with FCP5.1...or do I need to buy some newer version of BCC
    Thanks for any help.

According to the Boris Host Compatibility Matrix:
    http://www.borisfx.com/hosts/matrix.php
    Final Cut Pro 5.0 >> BCC 3, 4
Final Cut Pro 5.1-5.1.1 on Power PC >> BCC 4.0.1
Final Cut Pro 5.1-5.1.1 on Intel >> BCC 4.1

  • Boris Continuum v4.1 & FCS v5.1 compatibility

Anyone know if Boris Continuum Complete is compatible with FCS UB v5.1 ?
Whenever I try to apply a filter to a clip if FCS doesn't crash the filter blacks out the clip. The exception seems to be filters with a background or source well with which I can drag a clip into from the bin.
Oddly enough some of the filters work in Motion 2 but not FCS.
Everything worked so nicely in FCP v4.5 HD.
    Thanks

I got a reply from Peter McAuley @ BorisFX over on the Creative Cow BorisFX board and he encouraged me to "feel free" to contact him directly <[email protected]> so maybe if you cantacted him also it might help expedite matters. You may also want to mention the specific problems you are experiencing.
    They said they would try and reproduce the problem and post their results back to the list. You can view the thread here;

  • FCPX Mixed Frame Rates? 30fps AND 24fps in same project?

Just got done doing a multicam shoot for a large event where I had multiple people helping me out. We all shot at 1080p on a variety of Canon DSLR cameras and a Go Pro and a MiniDV Consumer Cam. I thought everyone got the memo to shoot at 30fps, and most everyone did, however one of my Canon cameras shot at 24fps. I know I've heard in the past mixing frame rates can cause issue in other programs, and I know FCPX can handle multiple frame rates, but what sort of trouble am I in for if I want to use footage from cameras using 30fps and a camera using 24fps in the same final product? Is the 24fps stuff going to choppy or weird if I use it in a 30fps sequence/project? My final deliverable at this point can be 30fps or 24fps, it is not stated and I want to make sure evrything looks good so what should I set my project settings for? Any ideas?

Ah - no - conforming simply resets the frame rate information. You should re-conform it back to 29.97...
Here's what I think you'll need to do. If the majority of your material is at 23.98, make your main sequence that. Cut everything at that 23.98 - you'll have to render any 29.97 material then, but when you've locked picture, look at the sections with 29.97 stuff and if it looks okay, just skip to making the DVD. If it doesn't, you'll have to insert a pulldown by exporting your sequence then bringing the quicktime back in, adding a pulldown with Shake ($500) or Nattress frame rate converter ($99) - OR try this - edit it to tape and a pulldown will be inserted, then recapture.
Once you have a 29.97 version of your clip, cut it into a 29.97 sequence and re-cut in the 29.97 material (now you won't need to render). Then export for your DVD.
Now - after all this, are you sure that your 30fps material is NOT 29.97 with a pulldown? Did you check this yet?

  • Conforming 30fps to 24fps

    Hi,
I know FCP have tools like Cinema Tools to easily conforming 30fps to 24fps.  Can Adobe Premiere do the same???  Also if you conform a file to 24fps from 30fps will there be a lost of quality to the footage?

re 30 to 24. Speed up your audio the appropriate amount. Play it on set while recording at  29.97.
When you retime the video to 24 fps, life is good.
fwiw - The people in front of the camera must have talent as actors for this to work.

  • Question about Boris Continuum Complete - (extruded spline)

    Hi,
I've tried on a couple of other forums - but no luck yet...
I am using the BCC plugin in AE CS4. I have made an extruded spline who's shape is being controlled by a path on the same layer. The problem is - I want to animate this path (stroke it) - but I cannot find a way to do it in the effects controls of BCC's extruded spline.
    Any ideas?
Please could someone suggest a better place to post this Q if not here?
    Many thanks,
    Luke

So this is what it should look like at the different stages in the timeline

  • Adobe Media Encoder de-interlace question

My video in the preview displays horribly interlaced, this is odd because the footage in the timeline displays correctly and clearly as well as my original footage. What seems to be the problem, I've tried rendering with de-interlace as well, it still shows fairly bad after being rendered.
All my original footage is 1280x720, 25fps.
    My settings:
    Format: H.264
    Range: Entire Sequence
    NTSC, 1280x720, 25[fps], Progressive
AAC, 160 [kbps], 48 kHz, Stereo
VBR, 2 Pass, Target 8.00, Max 8.00 [Mbps]
    Video Codec: MainConcept H.264 Video
    TV Standard: NTSC
    Width: 1280 px
    Height: 720 px
    FPS: 25Field Order: None(progressive)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: Widescreen 16:9
    Profile: Main
    Level: 4
    Bitrate Encoding: VBR, 2 Pass
    Target/Maximum Bitrate: 8
Attached Files to show ya what I mean.
Rendering an uncompressed video yeilds the same results as Media Encoder.

On further inspection, Even still renders are interlaced like mad...
    What's wrong?!
    EDIT:
I fixed it!!! Apparently when speeding up or slowing down clips, it merges the frames together giving off that horrible look! So I turned off "frame blend" And it looks super awesome.

  • H.264 Interlaced Question

@Tom Wolsky: I didn't want to stray OT on the FCP X thread where the OP is mixing SD and HD interlaced.
Just to say that I have never found a setting in Compressor that will allow me to output interlace H.284 – even from interlaced source material. Not that I'd ever use it myself, but if there are settings that will do just that, please let me know.
    Thanks.
    Russ

Thanks, Tom. Undoubtedly that works, although  don;t have any interlaced H.264 to use as a source file. But an interlaced XDCAM clip flipped to progressive when I chose MPEG 4 as output.

  • Adobe Dynamic Link Interlaced Question

I have several Dynamic Link files from After Effects in my Premiere Pro project - the final version of my project will be viewed on TV - so I want it to be interlaced. Are Dynamic Link files interlaced or should I export the files from After Effects into an interlaced format before exporting my project from Premiere Pro?
    Thanks
    FOO

Simple rule: anything that is created dynamically within AE (text layers, shape layers etc.) does not care - AE (and thus Dynamic Link) will correctly sample their properties at the given time, so fields are always correct based on your settings. For the rest - if your AE project uses footage, it needs to be interpreted correctly and the compas have the correct sizes. If so, you should have no problems using the stuff in Premiere and retaining the field order.

  • De-Interlace question

    Hi everyone,
I'm working with some footage that was originally shot in HD, but brought into FCP as 720x486 anamorphic ProRes HQ. In the process, it seems some interlacing was introduced. I'm trying to make some quicktimes, and trying to de-interlace, but it seems either I have a relatively crisp picture that has all kinds of feathering going on in the places where there is movement, or if I apply the de-interlace filter and render out a QT, I the feathering goes away, but all of the edges appear jagged. I have looked at the field dominance on the imported media and applied the filter to that field, but it still looks bad. Can anyone help me figure out a better process?

Actually, I'd been under the impression that it was a deck downconvert upon import, but now I'm being told that it was not HD originally. Some of it was Digibeta, shot in 16:9, some of it DV cam (cloned to Digibeta) shot in 16:9. Uuuuggh. In any case, it's been really hard to get a clean, de-interlaced picture. Any advice would be most helpful.

  • De Interlace question for flicker???

I have frames that I made into freeze frames and they flicker. Also some slow motion that flickers
    1. Which of the De-interlace settings solve this problem?
1a. is there a different setting for the freeze frame shot and the slow motion shot?
    2. If I have a lot of shots can I select all and apply all at once?

If your clip flickers, try using the Filter: VIDEO- FLICKER FILTER as well as DE-INTERLACE.
For all slow motion shots (if shot on 29.97 FPS - NTSC) you should be using flicker removal and de-interlacing filters to smooth them out.
Create a nest and apply those filters at once on all your clips

Installed...however everytime I attempt to 'Edit to Tape' and insert a sequence, Final Cut Pro crashes...if I remove all the BCC plugins, attempt the same, it does not...anyone seen this issue or aware of a resolution?

Problems with Boris...find the plugins to be a wee bit flaky...suggestion was to completely uninstall and reinstall...unsuccessful...

  • FCP 6 with Boris Continuum

I bought a version of this software a while back (V.5) and I've just found the excellent Damaged TV filter. So i put this on my clip and rendered, fantastic effect! Just what the client wanted.
However when opening the same clip on my iMac, it's just a black frame.
I recently (see dropped frame post) reformatted my iMac HD and reinstalled and now instead of the black frame it says "Filter Disabled, please click test Open GL button in the options for more information"
I've hunted the Boris site and looked everywhere but I can't find a TEST button anywhere within FCP.
Any ideas where this may be tucked away? On the Boris site it says it's in the filter dialogue but unless I'm going mad there's nothing there. Just help, a web link, load and save buttons and then the effects parameters.

Yes I've already emailed them but they typically take over a week to respond!
It did work before but I think that was a render file playing, when I messed with the effect I got the black frames that I mentioned in my first post, when I turned the effect off it went back to it's original state as expected.
It looks like a graphics card issue but my card exceeds the Boris spec for it to wrok and it works on my laptop fine!
