Borrowing a Friend's iPod video???

Hi
I don't know whether to post this in the iTunes or iPod forums... So I'll post both. My friend is letting me borrow his iPod video (30 GB) and it has a whole bunch of rap songs on it that I don't really want to listen to. And I have about 200 songs in my iTunes library that I want to put on it. I asked another friend what would happen if I connected my ipod to my computer... and she said that it would wipe all of his songs and videos and replace them with my library. I have a feeling that he wouldnt think very highly of this... So is there a way I can add my library of music... On top of his? And then remove my music when I'm done, and still have his songs on it?
Thanks so Much!
Brandon

Why is borrowing a bad idea? And this "turning an active ipod into a harddrive" ... Will that effect something on the iPod. I don't want to return it to him, and 3 days later it crashed. Is there an easier way maybe to clear all of MY songs off of my itunes library and put it on a data disc, or somewhere else in my computer... then connect his ipod to my computer which should automatically upload or show all of his songs on my library right? So If I saved everything on there of his. And kept it on a disc or on my computer... would it be safe to put my files back on my iTunes... and onto the ipod? Did that make sense? Or can I just somehow add my files on top of his files on the iPod. 30 gb holds way more then 300 songs, so I think I'll be okay with the memory.. I just have no idea how to. I'm borrowing it because I got a T-Mobile Sidekick 3 that has a music player and holds as much as a nano. So I sold my iPod nano...Because i figured I can just switch out the songs. But I'm going on a road trip which will require a lot more music. lol..

  • I've borrowed my friend's iPod and I want to copy CERTAIN songs to my computer but not the whole lot. Is there any way to do this?

I know how to get all of the songs off an iPod and onto a computer but I was wondering if there was a way to only get a select few because when you get them from the folders they're all labeled as F00 and stuff.
Or is there a way to convert these strange labels back to the name they were originally saved as ?

  • HT1311 im borrowing a friends ipod touch and want to add apps to it. i signed into my apple account but when i go to the app store it still asks for my friends password even though my apple ID account is signed in. any help?

I'm borrowing a friend's iPod touch until I get another phone and I want to add some apps. I deleted all the apps that weren't needed and then I tried to add some of the apps that I need. I switched the Apple ID account on the iPod and the iCloud account to my own along with all the other apps (Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Instagram, Skype, mail, YouTube, etc.) When i go to the Apple app store and try and update or download a new app it still asks for the old password. How do I get it so when I try and download new stuff it asks for MY password?

It is showing updates because your machine is tied to the original purchase and will remain so until you wipe the drive.
As you purchased it used and the seller obviously did not do what he was supposed to do and that is erase the hard drive and reinstall the original system, you will run in to far more difficult problems when you need to reinstall for whatever reason. The new licensing requirements are that any mac is sold with the original OS - any OS or app obtained at the app store is NOT transferable and the buyer needs to purchase their own license. That means you will not be able to reinstall the OS.
At some point, you will need to try to get either the original install disks (from the seller or Apple) and wipe your drive and reinstall. Then you can download your own licensed copy of Mavericks and any apps you want.

  • IPod Video help please....

I'm trying to put videos onto my iPod video i just purchased, and am having alot of difficulty. Alot of my friends have iPod videos also and are trying to help, but no luck.
First off, when i open iTunes with the iPod connected everything works fine, i can open all music and videos and play them on iTunes just fine, i convert them to iPod and all is well while on computer. When i disconnect and try to watch the videos then all i get is the audio and a picture of what the video is. I place videos on the iPod manually by dropping them onto the iPod. When i try to adjust the iPod options menu, the VIDEOS tab is all greyed out (meaning nothing can be changed or selected). It almost seems like its not an iPod photo, any suggestions ??? I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software and updating the iPod over and over, but no success...

In your ipod, go to videos, video settings, then make sure that "tv out" says off.

  • HT1535 how can I transfer videos from my itune library to my friend's ipod

how can I transfer videos that I've made at home, and that I converted so that I could play them on my ipod, which are now in my Itunes library, to my friend's ipod, without erasing all the stuff on his ipod?

Email the files to the friend to import to their iTunes library.
Copy the files to a flash drive to be imported to the iTunes library on their computer.
Burn the files to a CD/DVD.
Any of a variety of options that in no way involve connecting your friends iPod to your computer.

    Not true at all.
You only buy the right to your own personal use.
You do NOT have the right to distribute to others.
This is illegal.  There is no doubt about it

  • My friend's iPod touch 5th gen is locked somehow for 41 years and she does not have a backup. Is there a way to unlock the iPod without restoring it or loosing the pictures and videos from the camera roll?

My friend's iPod touch 5th gen is locked somehow for 41 years  and she does not have a backup. Is there a way to unlock the iPod without restoring it or loosing the pictures and videos from the camera roll, the applications can be redownloaded and she had no music. Is there any known bug about ipods locking on their own because no one seemed to have tried to bypass the 4 digit code and it is locked for 26 million minutes. So thank you if anyone has any information or help for us.

Your friend may have placed the ipod next to an object that repeatedly pressed the screen.  Under certain circumstances this can lead to what appears to the iTouch to be failed attempts to access the system.  After repeated failed attempts, the Touch increases the waiting time required for the password and may ultimately lock in the way you describe.
It's been a while since this was posted, but this might be informative to someone else who finds themself in a similar predicament.

  • HT201272 Lost iPod, lost music. On my old computer I had almost 16 gigs of music on iTunes some of which was purchased and most of which was put on there from my CD collection or from CDs borrowed from friends.

On my old computer I had almost 16 gigs of music in iTunes, some of which was purchased and most of which was put on there from my CD collection and from CDs borrowed from friends. When I got a new computer, only about half of that music, including all music purchased, wound up in iTunes. I didn't worry about this as all 16 gigs were still on my iPod. Then I lost my iPod and about 8 gigs of music.Because it was there in iTunes on my old computer, I assume it still exists somewhere. I would like to retrieve it somehow. Can anyone help me do that?

Unless you had subscribed to iTunes Match and uploaded that music to it then no, it won't be stored anywhere. You haven't got it on a backup e.g. an external drive ?

  • Help!! Ipod Video usb Port Not recognized !

Could anyone tell me what's going on with my ipod video 30g?
My friend borrowed my ipod for a file copy to his desktop, when I got it back and pluged it in the dock, the computer said: usb can't be recognized.
I am sure that the USB hub of my IBM is perfectly okay. And It is okay for the ipod to play music, photos and videos.
By the way, My friend's External Portable Hard drive also had the same problem after connecting to his desktop.
Have we got the Ipod usb port burned? Is there any way we can fix it?
    Thank You!

Your Windows PC doesn't recognize IPod:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61711
It seems that many people are still getting the 'USB Device not Recognized' problem from time to time. Unfortunately there is no easy fix.
Firstly, it's recommended that you make sure every one of your motherboard drivers are completely up-to-date, but you probably already knew that.
In XP, after a USB port isn't used for a long while the USB driver built into the OS sets the OHCI controller to suspend. When you plug a device back in, it can sometimes fail to 'wake up' properly. This problem was supposedly fixed in SP1 but there is a related registry hack that may still be able to help.
    Run regedt32.exe and navigate to;
    HKEYLOCALMachine\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Usb
Create the Usb key if it doesn't already exist. Under this key, create a new DWORD value called DisableSelectiveSuspend and give it a value of 1. Then restart the PC.
A long shot perhaps, but I recall having similar problems with a USB hub built into my Microsoft keyboard and adding this key seemed to solve it. It wouldn't hurt in trying .
Alternatively, removing all entries relating to USB in Device Manager and all associated USB drivers will force XP into refreshing the USB driver stack.
    Begin by unplugging all USB devices, then use Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel to uninstall any USB driver software. Next, boot up into safe mode and go to Device Manager. Once in device manager make sure 'Show hidden devices' is checked under the View menu. Uninstall all device entries in this order;
    1. USB peripheral devices (printers etc.)
    2. HID and/or Composite USB (Human Interface Devices) You're using PS/2 input devices so you may not have this entry.
    3. USB Root Hub(s)
    4. USB Host Controller(s) (Universal or Enhanced Host Controllers)
Then boot back into Windows (not safe mode) and it should populate the Root Hubs & Host controllers again. Proceed to plug your USB devices back in, starting with your powered hub. Be aware that most USB printers and scanners need to have their drivers installed first before you plug them in.
Hopefully some of this may be of help, let me know how you get on.

  • Ipod nano 4gb and ipod video 80g with windows vista

hello! i've been trying (rather unsuccessfully) to sync the ipod nano to my laptop which has windows vista OS. i have the latest itunes 7.2 (just updated today from 7.1) and i always get the "found new hardware" pop-up everytime i plug the ipod nano via usb port. i also did the 5r's, but still the computer cannot and will not detect any software. i even downloaded the softwareupdater28-06-2006.exe but it will not run because it's superseded by itunes 7. my friend has an ipod video 80gb and i tried connecting it too, same thing popped up. both ipods do not show in "my computer" so i cannot even backup my songs! ah well. i just need to get the driver for the ipod i suppose. please help, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

i have been having the same problem. My laptop was upgrade to windows vista and worked perfectly fine with my ipod and with others which had previously been used with the computer when it was running XP. My IPOD unfortunately crashed and need to be replaced. I brought it back to the laptop and connected it. it was not recognised but the others still are!
I have been looking on the internet and you are the only other i can find who is suffering this problem. i have looked in device manager and the new ipod is recognised as a 'other device', whereas the ipod that still works is classed as a 'portable device'. i have looked at the drivers and tried to install them by copying the drivers on the original ipod, but have not succeded. Since updating itunes to 7.2 i have been getting a 'do not disconnect' message on the ipod but it still does not appear in the sources list in itunes.
I have tried everything and am about to give up please HELP!
Someone somewhere must know a way around this........ as the London apple store "has never heard of this problem"

  • Ipod Video UK/US

I have 1 ipod video which I bought here in the UK, and someone has just bought me a 2nd IPOD Video 80gb in the Apple store in New York as a present for a friend
But I am worried when they get it home here I will not be able to transfer my DVD's to it, as I have no idea if the Region 1. Region 2 exsists for ipod ?
So basically can someone help. if they bring it home for me can I transfer my dvd's to it ?
    Thanks
    Karen

The region code of a DVD isn't particularly relevant as DVDs will not go directly onto an iPod anyway. You'll need to acquire software to convert them to an iPod friendly format. If you do a search of the discussions you'll find a variety of recommendations for this: iPod 101: Which Files Work With iPod and iTunes

  • Ipod video to windows

    Please help!
OK I bought the ipod video. I loaded all the music from a friend's library (on my friend's computer) into the ipod and now come home, install the itunes on my computer, plug my ipod into my computer, see the library in faded lettering on the itunes library screen but how to get the ipod to play music on my computer?
What am I not doing? thanks

Yeah, I have done the 5 R's already besides restore... I really don't want to restore unless I have to, but even if I wanted to restore I couldn't because that would require me to have ITunes see the IPod.
    Thanks for your help,

  • Best video to ipod video converter software

What is the best program I can buy for coverting my dvd's and other videos (including recorded tv shows on my dvr) to ipod video? Thanks.

Hopefully in answer to the many posts on “how to get various video formats onto your iPod” I have put together a summary of applications I use. I have tried a few others with varying amounts of success (some of which are free) - I have finally plumped for the software produced by Xilisoft as providing good quality video relatively affordable cost for use withPC’s and numerous MS operating systems. The link below takes you to their site which not only allows you to download trail versions of their software but also has a comprehensive set of tutorials and FAQ's for their iPod video conversion software.
I have regularly used these applications to convert various file formats to iPod friendly video. They are simple to use although frequently processor and RAM hungry:
Use Xilisoft iPod Video Converter if you want to:
[*]Convert various video file formats to MP4
[*]Convert most audio file formats to MP3
[*]Extract audio from video file and save to MP3
    [*]Encode several files simultaneously
[*]Pause encoding process to run other CPU time consuming programs at any time
    Supported file formats:
    Video:
    [*]MPEG(mpg, mpeg, dat, vob); WMV; ASF; AVI; QuichTime(mov, qt); MPEG4(mp4); 3GP; DV(dv,
    dif); Real Video(rm); Animated GIF(gif - decoding only); Macromedia Flash(swf - decoding
    audio only);
    Audio:
[*]MPEG Audio(mp2, mp3); WMA; WAV; AU; MPEG4 Audio(m4a); Real Audio(ra); OGG; AAC; Raw
    AC3(ac3); NUT Open Container Format(nut);
To convert DVD's to an iPod friendly video format:
Use Xilisoft DVD to iPod V4:
[*]Just pop the DVD in your drive select compression variables (default settings work well) and sit back!
All these products are available on a "try before you buy basis", yes there are applications for XP which are free but and may work just as well but I have converted many hours of video for my iPod without hassle using the Xilisoft products (no I don't work for them!). Check there web site HERE
