Bose Sounddock draining Ipod battery

I have a bose sounddock, I want to know once the Ipod battery is fully charged, is it ok to leave it in the sounddock or is it still draining the battery and should undock the ipod when not in use.
I called Bose but they couldn't really give me a definitive answer. Does anyone know?
Thanks

You can leave the ipod on as long as you like. The soundock charges the ipod while it is docked in and once it is charged, all you are doing is maintaining the charge. It is a good idea and recommended to drain your battery all the way once a month, but the batteries are designed to be charged at various levels. Not like rechargeables in the old days when you were supposed to wait for them to be drained before you put them back on the charger.

is it safe to use mt new iPod touch with the Bose sound dock that was compatable with my iPod mini? i dont want to blow up my iPod with a terrible amount of power or something. please help.. THANKS !!!

I have a Bose sound dock and it generally seems to work fine. However I have had one problem with the charging and I would be interested to know if you are having the same issue. I've posted the question twice now, had a lot of views, but no responses. I'm assuming this is because not may folks are using the Bose dock (which is really just Apple's dock) with their iPod Touch yet. Here is my last post:
+When I put my iPod Touch in the standard Apple dock that came with my Bose Wave 2 iPod kit, the iPod displays a "plug" in the upper right hand corner. This is even though it is not fully charged. I've even received warnings that the battery was running low while it was sitting in the dock.+
+I triple checked the connections and everything is OK. Every once in a while the icon does change to the lighting bolt, indicating that it is actually charging, but I can not determine what sequence cause this to happen. I've plugged my iPod Touch into at least 6 different "sound dock" type devices and I always get the expected lighting bolt icon.+
+I went back to the Bose store where I bought the kit and we had the same problem with another Apple dock they had sitting out. They even gave me a brand new replacement kit, but when I got home, same issue.+
+I can't figure this one out. Any one else having this problem and/or know what I need to do to have the iPod charge (if needed) when I put it in the Apple dock?+

  • Bose Sounddock Vs Ipod Hifi

I'm reading mixed reviews on both of these sound docks, does anyone have any inside information on which one is better? Thanks

Like Mitch said, this is purely subjective. ..If you can, simply visit an Apple store (just as they're opening so the store is quieter) and listen to both. That's what I did. I found the HiFi to sound more like "real music" which is to say that the tones and colors of the instruments seemed more accurate. But again, that is purely subjective. You might listen to both and find just the opposite to be true.
Another thing to consider: The HiFi can be run on batteries. Though they won't last but 12-18 hours or so, this is definitely a huge plus for many people. And no, there is no rechargeable pack available. ..Such a pack - one capable of producing sufficient current - would be very expensive.
As for pedigree. ..To the extent that such a thing matters, the HiFi actually has a better pedigree than the bose. The hifi was designed by a fellow who designed very high-end gear for Mark levinson (co. known for it's mega-thousand dollar amps and pre-amps). But again, this shouldn't matter; only what sounds best to you.

  • Is it possible to overcharge an iPod Classic in a Bose SoundDock?

Do I need to be concerned about leaving my iPod Classic 120MB docked in my Bose SoundDock Series II when not in use? Could this practice overcharge the iPod's battery and hence shorten the life?

I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but the iPod will not allow itself to be overcharged - it will "quick-charge" to 80%, trickle charge the remaining 20%, then stop whether plugged into your computer or your Bose SoundDock.

  • IPod Touch 4G works fine with Bose SoundDock

I just want to report that I bought the Bose SoundDock portable system yesterday, and it works fine with the iPod Touch 4G. Despite what I had read on these pages and elsewhere, there is absolutely no problem docking the Touch, and the system works great. What fun to have this as a battery-powered go-anywhere system!

I used to have a problem getting both of them working but then i realized it was a problem with my iPod itself which got resolved and now they seem to work great after all!

  • IPod 'blown up' & damaged Bose SoundDock

    Hi,
My iPod Classic, not sure which generation - I think 5th?, bought in 2005 has 'blown-up' whilst in my Bose SoundDock.
The iPod is totally dead, the back has come away and the screen is a mess.
The SoundDock no longer works either.
I'm not quite sure what to do as they are both out of warranty?
    Can anybody advise?
    Many Thanks,

If the back of the iPod has come away and the screen is in a mess, it does sound as though it has blown up (as opposed to you exercising poetic licence. )
First thing, avoid touching any mess that has come out of the iPod because it could be harmful to you. (It sounds as though the battery has actually exploded.)
I think the iPod has had it, in which case, buy new. You could try getting it "repaired", although in that case I would suggest you try Apple. Apple will simply swap out the iPod with a replacement (of the same type) whereas I think third party suppliers will probably attempt to rebuild a broken iPod, which in this case probably won't be possible. I could be wrong about that though.) It's really a question of whether you want to pay for a repair or buy new at (probably) slightly higher cost.
However, the bose is a different proposition. Since you're resident in the UK and presumably have a UK mains-plug on the Bose, you could test the plug's fuse on the Bose to see if it's that that has failed. You never know, you may be lucky. The Bose website (http://www.bose.co.uk/GB/en/home-entertainment/customer-service/for-owners/faqs/ SoundDock-II-FAQ/index.jsp) has a phone number for their troubleshooting/repair line on 0800 781 1274 (UK number). Presumably, they can advise you whether it's worth buying a new power supply - they certainly supply them. They will need the 17 digit serial number of your Bose (it's on the SoundDock's base) when you call.
One thing you should consider doing is writing to both Apple and Bose to let them know what has happened, since exploding batteries is a serious situation. They may even ask you to let them see the devices so that they can work out what caused the problem.
    Good luck.

  • IPhone 4S, iPod Classic, Bose SoundDock

Does anyone know if Scoche PassPORT home charging adapter will work with iPhone 4S and iPod classic (160gb, late 2009), and the BOSE SoundDock (1st version)?
    Many thanks,
    DeeElle

Thanks to you both for your responses. I called Bose and they offered to trade in my original Sounddock for the new portable Sounddock which uses USB instead of firewire charging, so it's able to charge the iPhone 3GS. It would cost me $179 for the trade. They also have the option of changing the charge cradle on the original Sounddock to USB for $99. I love the Sounddock and like the idea of a portable Sounddock that can run on battery power. A new portable would cost $400, so I'm probably going to go with the trade-in option.

  • Ipod No Longer Charging on Bose Sounddock

Recently my 5th gen. Ipod (ver 1.3 software) stopped charging on my gen 1 bosesound dock and my other earlier sound systems (JBL portable speakers, etc.), however it still will play music. It will charge on a new Ihome I recently bought... All my research has shown this problem to exist with the new Ipod touch models that are firewire charge only, but not with 5th Gen. I've tried it on other bose sounddocks and it won't charge on those either, however an non-updated gen 5 my family has still charges fine on all the devices. The only thing I can think of is that the new Itunes 8.2.1.6 update that I installed changed the charging operations for my Ipod (it stopped working just after I updated it and synched my Ipod). Can anyone confirm if this is the case and how to fix it?

  • What is the normal amount of GB of Other Space for a new 32 GB Ipod touch 5 Generation with iOS 6.1.3? Also, will iOS 7 slow down/drain the battery of my device?

My Other storage space was at 2.84 GB after i loaded all my music/apps onto a recently purchased 32 GB Ipod touch 5 Generation with iOS 6.1.3.  Resetting the settings and removing the music and apps did not help reduce the Other space.  I restored to a backup and got my Other storage space down to almost 400 MB.  When I started syncing music it grew 500-ish MB.  Each time I sync, the Other grows a bit more.  This is really irritating.
The official listed available GB on my 32 GB is 28.22 GB (not including Other), so now I am irritated knowing that this Other is taking up my space when I didn't even have 32 GB of free space to begin with. So 28.22 - 2.84GB = 25.38 GB.
I want to restore to a new device to see if that helps, but do not want to upgrade to i0S7.  Is there any way to do this?
If I upgrade to i0S 7 I am worried it might slow my ipod or drain the battery faster.  Will it do that?  The ipod is expensive and I dont want it to go downhill and obsolete on me because it can't handle a better operating system.

Less than 1 1/5 GB is normal. It does grow with time.

  • Charging with Bose SoundDock [ipod 2g]

Ok, I know it doesnt work, and I am so ****** off about it you have no idea, paid $450 for it.
Its still in warranty, if i take it back, is there any chance they will replace it with the new Bose speakers that do work?

The Bose SoundDock II is suppose to work with the 2G iphones/itouch not the original/previous SoundDock.
I recently bought, via a very recognized online auction, a new and sealed Bose SoundDock. The package seal date was 10/2007! Bose had the SoundDock listed on their website literally about 2 weeks ago then it's gone now as the company finally phased out the older model.
At least I got a deal online as the original price was $399.
    Let's see...
I bought mine with "free shipping" for $195. If I bought it at retail, it would've cost $399 + 15 sales tax in my state = $414; I saved 53%!! Woo-Hoo!
Too bad it's now "outdated" and replaced my an updated, lower cost model! AUGHH!
    Oh, well!
The SoundDock works well with my older iPods (30Gb/60Gb/80Gb) and 1G/2G/3G nanos (Yeah, yeah! I'm building an iPod farm!. I won't be buying any newer iPods soon).
    Anyway...
Despite the limitations of the SoundDock of not having an auxilliary port or limited remote functions, it works well. Music and speech sound fine and clear! The speaker is meant for the "older" iPod versions (i.e. NOT the 2G iTouch/iPhone or 4G (chromatic) nano).
Bose's newer SoundDock II is meant to be backward compatible as well as compatible with the newer iPods! At least the price for the newer version dropped from $399 of the original to $299, though it's still pricey!!

  • IPod Nano (2nd generation) not fully compatible with BOSE SoundDock

I can't get the remote control for my BOSE SoundDock to function with my newly purchased 2 GB iPod Nano (2nd generation).
The BOSE manual states that the remote control will not function properly if the iPod doesn't have the proper (or later) version of Apple software installed.
The "correct" software that BOSE identifies for the iPod mini (Nano) is version 1.2 or later.
This, however, appears only applicable to iPod 1st generation Nanos.
My brand new ipod Nano has version 1.1.2 software and iTunes has confirmed this to be the most current software for this 2nd generation unit.
Is this a common problem? It's hard to believe the BOSE unit does not cover 2nd generation iPod Nano software.
Other than the non-funtioning remote control, the BOSE unit works fine and with the BOSE-supplied black adpater for the Nano.

Actually, the BOSE SoundDock is compatible with the iPod Nano.
After troubleshooting with the BOSE staff, and some excellent customer service, the problem was narrowed down to the remote control device.
BOSE sent out a new remote control and the unit works fine with my iPod Nano.
Appreciate all who offerred assist in this matter.

  • Trying to update my ipod software so I can use my Bose Sounddock remote

    Hi,
I have a 30 GB 5th Gen ipod that is running Version 1.2, apparently I need version 2.2 to use my Bose Sounddock remote. After searching the Apple website to find a way to download version 2.2, Apple kept bringing me back to the latest itunes 7 download which is supposed to alert you to any ipod updates. So I have downloaded itunes 7 which tells me my ipod is updated with version 1.2. How can I get 2.2 on my ipod?
I notice other people are having similar problems with no solutions, thought I would give it another try, any solutions?
    Thanks,
    Jessica

Version 2.2 of the software is designed for a different model of iPod, most likely the third generation models, and is older than your model of iPod. The current version of the iPod software for your model is version 1.21; if the remote doesn't work with this version, you probably can't use it with your iPod.
The version numbers are determined relative to the release of the original iPod for first through fourth generation full-size models, and relative to the release of the first iPod with that product name for other iPods, including the iPod photos.

  • How to drain iPod Touch battery

I am trying to completely drain my iPod's battery. I have been trying all week to update to OS 6. It kept freezing, I did several restores. I also removed all music and books to cut down on the memory demand. On the last restore, I actually got everything working and was organizing my apps and resyncing everything, when it froze again. I did not want to restart the restore as that takes at least overnight to complete.
So I decided that maybe completely draining the battery would be the next thing I could try.
    (REFERENCE: https://discussions.apple.com/message/13164301#13164301)
But, because it was frozen into an endless loop of restarting itself, I couldn't set up a game, music, or video to play and drain it for me.
So I spent several hours monitoring it as it restarted itself over and over and gradually drained the battery. This did not completely drain it, however, so I manually restarted it for a few more hours.)
According to the advice I was trying to follow (see URL above), I should see nothing when I first plug in the iPod, if it is completely drained. At this point though, I have a dead screen for a half hour or so, but if I press the restart button, I sometimes get the dying battery image again for a few seconds. When the screen is completely black, if I plug it in, I also get the dying battery image but right away.
My question is - is the battery dead enough at this point for me to attempt to recharge it and hope it has reset itself enough that the 'stuck' problem might have gone away? Or do I need to wait longer?

    Well ok thanx.
