Bose SoundDock killed my iPhone. Now what?

At a hotel I plugged my old phone into this speaker set to listen to some tunes after a long flight. The phone came on and displayed a "This hardware is not compatible" warning with the only option being a "Dismiss" button. So I tapped that then the screen started freaking out, flashing, filled with garbage. I yanked the phone out and it seemed to sort of recover then the home screen inverted! Everything was backwards. I tried a few restarts and it seemed OK, then it would lose the roaming signal (I was in Spain). The battery was nearly dead so I decided to charge it overnight and try again later. Next morning the phone was very hot and completely dead. It would not power up and does nothing when connected to either of my Macs; they do not recognize it.
So any ideas what parts may have died? If it was just the battery it should still respond when docked. Can I send it to Apple for repair or are there better options?
This Bose thing seemed to have fried something. Unfortunately as it happened outside the US I don't think I have any claim against Bose. The phone was beat up but it worked perfectly til it met the Bose. Grr. 2G phones seem plentiful on ebay and craigslist but I would guess that most of them are stolen.

If it is under warranty, Apple may or may not replace it for you. The best thing to do is make an appointment at the Genius Bar - http://apple.com/retail/geniusbar and have them take a look.

I tracked a lost iphone, now what?

Were you unable to find it, given a somewhat accurate map of its location?  Or did you find it?  If so, start using it again.  What are you asking?

  • What is the best bose sounddock adapter for iphone 5

I am so diheartened that my wonderful bose docking system is not compatible to my new iphone 5 and the lightening adapter for £25 does not look to be very sturdy or even athsetic.  Ive heard they only work on analogue not digital.

Apple adapter works fine  ,mine does on Bose Sound Dock
If you have a Sound Dock 10 ,Bose do a Bluetooth receiver
which replaces the 30 pin plug built in
Beware cheap adapter knockoffs on e-bay

  • Got an iphone, now what?

I was a bit surprised to find that there were hardly any instructions that came with the iphone about basic things like how to insert a sim card.
I got the pay as you go option and am charging it now but I'm not sure if the sim card needs to be inserted before charging and how to do it.
Are there any good online instructions for the iphone anywhere?

I found this on another site.
Does it sound like it makes sense and will allow me to do what I want?
'I've seen some people here asking how to sync with their home and work computers without having to erase the iPhone. This is simple.
Copy your ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library and ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music Library.xml to a flash drive at home and bring it to work.
Then copy those files to the same location on your work computer. Then launch iTunes. You'll notice all the music you have at home show up, but it's ALL missing. This is okay. Just delete it all in iTunes.
Then drag your ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music folder onto the iTunes icon to get all your work music back into iTunes. Now you can sync with both computers because iTunes thinks it's the same computer. Nice.
I hope this helps some people who may not know about this trick. It's working for me.
EDIT: This is important. Make sure you've enabled "Manually Manage Music and Videos" in the iPhone tab in iTunes. If you have it auto-sync I'm pretty sure it will replace the music which would defeat the purpose of this trick."

  • 10.4.7 nearly killed my Mini, Now What?

After auto-update to 10.4.7 on a standard Mini Core Solo, 512MB, I experienced major problems. Disappearance of all desktop folders and Finder not responding, Dashboard not working, most applications not accessible, drag and drop unresponsive, etc. This was literally 4 days after my 90-day warranty expired, so no Apple help so I turned to discussion pages and after running a repair disk permissions was unable to open any applications and so all files were irretrievable. I finally reinstalled 10.4.5 from the back up and all appears to be fine, but a lot of rebuilding to do for lost files (back up lesson learned). I did not have to reinstall Boot Camp; Windows was unaffected. But now I'm wondering what to do--wait and see about fixes to 10.4.7, or wait until 10.4.8. I just switched from Windows, and must say, am not too happy about it right now.

Hang in there. I've had Macs for forever and this is the first update that caused me problems. (I'm not a tech, but there's got to be a bug in that update.) I clicked on the software update without a second though. Once I restarted, my Logitech Trackball was dead, eject wouldn't work, wireless network was gone, etc. There is no operation of a computer without a mouse. I spent MANY hours on Sunday trying to get back to operational and finally had to reinstall 10.4. I plan to wait for a fix, then I'll wait a little longer still. This was my first and only BOMB of an update in 15 years. Keep the faith.

  • New iphone, now what to do with the old one

I am sure I am not the only one that picked up the new iphone after having the first one. My kids love to watch disney shows that we bought through itunes on my phone. The goal was, to use my old iphone as an ipod and let them watch the shows on it. itunes will no longer let me change the media on that phone. Is there a way to have itunes recognize this old phone as just an ipod to synch? Its crazy to have a 400.00 paper weight now as it should still play video even though its not used as a phone. You should not have to have the phone activated to use the other features in it like the ipod touch has...

I saw an earlier post that said you could do this. To clarify how, make sure there is no sim card in the old iphone if you want to use it as an ipod. Not sure why AT&T put my new sim card from the new iphone in the old iphone? That was the problem. I just updated the old iphone with videos and it appears to work fine.

  • BOSE SOUNDDOCK SERIE II - IPHONE 4S ISSUE

Does someone may help with following problem:
In my family we have we have 3 dock stations audio devices: Bose Sound Dock series II, Philips DS3020/12, Sharp DK-AP7N(R).
We have also 2 Iphones 4s and one ipod classic.
The latest iphone 4s does not work with the Bose and Philips audio systems: the iPhone 4s is charging, but music is playing in the iPhone speakers and not in the dock speakers, on the iPhone there is a message. In Italian the message is "Il dispositivo non supporta questo accessorio" that almost means that the iPhone does not support the device. Please note that the iPhone works with the Sharp DK-AP7N(R) audio system.
The other iPhone 4s works with all 3 devices since long time.
Both the iPhones have iOS 7.1.1, so it should be not related to software version.
The ipod classic works with all 3 devices.
Does anyone know how to fix

Just went to check my Series II - I have the white 3G S 16 GB. No problem there - played music right away.
An apple store employee told me Bose Series II is compatible with 3G S.
I did get a white screen on the second day - had to do a hard restart and software restore. Maybe it's a problem with the software they installed. You can restore the software from itunes and see if that helps - back up before.
I was also told by an Apple Tech make sure you treat it as a new iPhone don't use the back up when you restore the software in itunes.

  • Won an iPhone - Now what?

    Hey all,
My sister won an iPhone in a contest at her hair salon. She is an existing AT&T customer with an LG phone that has a SIM card.
In the past, when she has switched phones (within AT&T of course) all she's done is switch SIM cards.
Is it that simple with the iPhone? Can she just take her card out and put it in and be up and running?
    Thanks.

Your sister will need access to a computer (Mac or PC) to activate it. (It will also be needed, as usual, to save/load pictures and personal info, and to get software updates.)
Once she has chosen the computer to use, she will need to get the iTunes software and create an account.

  • Iphone 3G and Bose Sounddock

Just about to purchase an iphone 3G and have a question about if the Bose Sounddock (the original one) will still work? Has anybody tried this?

Thanks for that info, I asked Bose which basically confirmed what you said, copied below as this might be useful info for current users,
<Thank you for your recent e-mail to BOSE®.
Apple have changed the layout of the charging pin on the iPhone 3G dock
connector (compared to the original iPhone) so that it now uses a different pickup pin for charging.
The original SoundDock® digital music system, will play music and allow remote control of the iPhone 3G, but currently will not charge the iPhone 3G.
Bose plan to develop a modification for the SoundDock®, to be carried out via service / repair centres that will allow the SoundDock® "classic" to charge the 3G iPhone.
This modification should become available by the end of the year and will be carried out through the standard repair service - I recommend contacting us later this year for further information.>

  • IPhone 3G and Bose Sounddock Portable

Does anyone know if this will work?
I do know, that the "old" Bose Sounddock does not work with the 3G, but what happens to the Portable? Please anyone can confirm?
    Best regards,
    Martin

    Hi Jeffrey,
the Bose SoundDock Portable is going to charge the iPhone 3G, although it is making this horrible, clucking and popping sound every five minutes or so. But until the charging of the iPhone is completed the popping sounds are gone.
    @ all
I took my SoundDock Portable back to the Apple Store today and got a B&W Zeppelin instead,.... oh Boy what a difference! For shure its a LOT more money,.... but this beauty is worth every of my hard earned pennies! Not only does it work like a charm with all iPods i do own its also is an ideal companion to the iPhone 3G - it even shows up the "Speaker Settings" Menu in the "General Settings" Menue,... i really did not expect that. Don´t get me wrong i liked the Bose Portable a lot, but i did not want to rely on Apple or Bose to wait for a doubtful upgrade to either unit, be it the Bose or the iPhone. P
Portability has never been an issue to me,.... so i am really happy now with the Zeppelin which is sitting on one sideboard in our livingroom,.... if you interested in really good sounding speakers, do your self a favour and go audit those awsome Zeppelins.
    Regards
    Martin

  • HT1665 Why does music come out muddled and echoing in alarm mode when the iPhone is connected to the Bose SoundDock lll?

There is a very unique problem with the iPhone 5 and iPad mini when connected to the Bose SoundDock III.
In normal music playback, music sounds great coming out of the Bose SoundDock, but, when a song is chosen for the Apple Alarm App and turns on when the alarm goes off, the music sounds terrible.  It reverberates, echoes, is muddled, sounds messy.
What is so odd about this is the same sound coming out of a speaker-device connected to the phone's headphone jack sounds perfect, and as intended.
It only has this issue when it is in alarm mode and it's connected via the lighting port connector.
Is this an Apple software glitch that wasn't researched fully or a manufacturing defect on the Bose end?
I've tried a couple Bose systems so it isn't peculiar to one SoundDock.
    What are your thoughts?

Check Settings > General > Cellular > Cellular Data and make sure it's "On".

  • How to fix New Bose SoundDock Portable not working with iPhone 4s?

I am having trouble working with my Bose SoundDock Portable with my iPhone which i bought on monday.
I have a iPhone 4S running on iOS 5.1.1 and nothing is working. Not charging nor playing music. Thought it was going to be as simple as plug and play. So annoying.
I've tried turning my phone off & on = NOTHING
I've tried removing the universal adapter to test if it had been a connection problem = NOTHING
It had been suggested in other forums to check if the 30 pin dock connector on your iPhone was clear. Clean and tested = NOTHING
    I'm starting to think
    A) Its the new update of iOS 5.1.1
    or
    B) Its a faulty Bose product.
Both Bose and Apple website both confirm that the iPhone 4S is compatable with Bose SoundDock Portable.
    http://worldwide.bose.com/axa/en_au/web/sounddock_portable/page.html
    http://store.apple.com/au/product/TP573PA/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5Mg&fs=m.manufacturer%3 Dbose
Is there anyway to fix this?

Thank you so much for sharing.
I had the same experience, now tried to reinstall iTunes et voilà.
Looked for suggestions around several forums but nobody suggested this.
    And it works.
    Thank you again.
