Boss wants to use Skype

My boss has a hearing aid and a hearing loop set up in his office with his computer plugged into the amplifier.  Since he can hear everything from his computer very well, Skype would seem a good choice but he would like people to be able to call him and we are in Canada.  I was wondering if we can purchase a US Skype number and use it here in Canada?  We would set up a subscription for calls in Canada and the US but he would like to be able to see incoming calls on his computer in a small window and record it for interviews that he conducts for business (with permission of course).

  • I want to use SKYPE... what mike do I need & what Prefs are needed?

My G4 has a mike input plug ... But the mike I was using on my old Graphite sys will not fit.
Can anyone recommend a mike to use for SKYPE on my machine and please explain what Sys prefs are needed?
    Thanks in advance.

You didn't say what kind of G4 you had, but bear in mind some Macs have a mic-level input and others have a line-level input. Those with the latter (eg the latest G5 dual core Macs) don't pick up enough sound from a normal microphone without an amplifier. It's confusing because both inputs use a 3.5 mm headphone style plug and they look identical.
So if you're buying a headset that you might want to use if/when you change Macs, USB is the way to go.
I use the Logitech 350 USB headset and avoid the mic input altogether. It's best to use a headset rather than a mic, because the incoming audio from your caller won't 'feed back' into your microphone. You can use non-usb headsets coupled with Griffin's iMic USB adaptor as well, but that's an expensive solution.
    Hope that helps.

  • Traveling abroad and want to use skype on my mobil...

I will be traveling abroad to Costa Rica and Nicaragua and taking my mobile phone with me.  I will be able to use my phone to connect to the internet whenever wi-fi is available.  I will not be able to use my phone for regular calling.  So, I want to know if I can make calls through skype using my phone as long as I am connected to the internet through wi-fi?  My calls will be to regular landlines or mobiles, not to skype numbers.  I will therefore add skype credit once I know that I will be able to call.
    Thank you

I can understand how this might happen but I think you posted in the wrong forum...if you're planning on using free wifi sites.  Skype wi-fi is to pay for service in hotspots where wifi isn't free.  See this link for an explanation:
    http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/features/allfeatures/skype-wifi/
In any case, yes, if you have wifi service, free or paid, Skype on your phone, and credits available, you can call landlines or mobiles with Skype.  The rate for the calls will depend on the country you're callling.  You can see the rates here:

  • No idea how to use Skype on e65

I couldnt see any topic about settings for skype. I want to use Skype over wi-fi. Please tell me what settings i have to do.
    THX

I was using K790i before that, i was bored with it so i decided to change with e65. But to be honest i'm not satisfied with that phone. Even you cannot compare e65 with k790i. E65 is only better on technical sheets. Ok it have better specs like 3G, UMTS, Wi-Fi.. but be sure these are the only better sides.
If you used only Nokia till today you can't understand me but there are a lot of differences in using menus in bad way of course, camera quality, some details, for exaple while setting an picture as a background you can't stretch it to fit the screen in nokia, or k790i is making the list of people who you r sending message and next time you can select one of contacts from there and be sure this function is very practical, no need to compare their camera, there is a huge difference. E65 is taking photos like 4-5 year old model. The menu is extremely complicated for example i don't know why but for wi-fi there are settings in 3-4 different menu.
And another big disadvantege for e65 is like allways, the stanby time.
I can use e65 2days approx if fully charged. But the duration for k790i is 4-5days like its old model (k750i). Nokia must do smthng about it's battery technology or phones power consumption.
    Shortly i don't recommend e65.
If you have enough money then buy n95 or wait for iphone(i'll do like that).
Forgive me about my terrible English

  • Webcam options apart from USB for using Skype in a meetingroom

You can get a USB repeater cable which will let you go up to 10M in length.
In all honesty though I would be looking to connect an old machine permanently into the TV for stuff like this.  Even better would be something like a chromebox.
Other options, get a smart tv with camera and do it all direct from the tv.
If the budget doesn't exist though get a USB repeater cable.

Hi all,We have a small meetingroom with a table for about 8 people. There is also a TV hanging on the wall that we use during the meetings to show the image of one of the laptops. There's a HDMI cable going from the TV under the floor to the middle of the table, that we connect to the laptop that wants to use the TV to show stuff. The TV could have an ethernet cable running to it, and we also have WiFi in our company of course. Now the question: we want to use Skype in the meeting room, but want to avoid using an internal laptop camera or an USB camera atached or close to the laptops.Ideally we wouldlike to place a camera on top of the TV hanging on the wall. This way the camera would have a nice picture of everyone in the meeting room. The problem: an IP-camera sounds ideal, but Skype only works with USB-camera's. We don't want to use...

  • I got a swedish cellphone in USA can I use skype t...

I have my swedish cellphone with me to the US and I need to use the skype to go, shall I type in that I´m calling from sweden or where? Does the skype use the phoneline calling or will there be a cost for roaming?

Do not use your swedish phone to call a Skype To Go number in the US. You will otherwise incur int'l roaming charges by your Swedish operator (you are basically calling a US landline number from a Swedish phone). The same goes for your Swedish Skype To Go numbers. If you call them from abroad you will incur int'l roaming charges.
If you want to use Skype To Go in the US then you need to call from registered US mobile or landline (e.g. you could get a US pre-paid SIM card).

  • Do i need to pay before I start using skype

Hello all, have been on Skype years ago, can you answer a couple of questions please?
Is it free to use Skype video/call without a subscription to a family member on skype etc??
If not, how long does the credit last??
If I just want to use skype for family video calls, which is the best subscription?????
    Thanks, Gepuk2001
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
Skype to Skype audio and video calls (1 to 1) are indeed free.
However, if you wish to use it mainly for video calling, I would recommend that you try our skype Premium subscription which would allow you to initiate group video calls with your family and friends.
Please refer to this link to subscribe:

  • CAN YOU USE SKYPE ON YOU TUBE CHANNEL LIVE

i WANT TO USE SKYPE ON YOU TUBE CHANNEL TO TAKE MULTIPLE LIVE VIDEO CALLS IS THIS POSSIBLE?

I think such is not possible yet.  For now, you can use a recorder such as Supertintin for windows, and eCamm for mac to record your video calls.  Both can record in Youtube upload ready formats.  Supertintin and eCamm are both available in the Skype Apps Directory -  http://shop.skype.com/apps/Call-recording-audio-video

  • I want to use my grey Mac G4 desktop to Skype. How and where do I connect a microphone

I want to use my grey Mac G4 desktop to Skype. How and where do I connect a microphone. Is it possible?

G4 Macs have no built video/webcams or microphones.
The best solutions are USB devices.
First, you need to determine the version of Skype that you can use. The newest Skype version 5 can only run on Macs with a min. OS X version of OS 10.5.8 Leopard.
Tthe older version of Skype that can run in your Mac is Skype 2.8 found here.
    http://www.skype.com/intl/en/get-skype/on-your-computer/macosx/2-8/
There are not a lot of webcams or microphones that work with both Macs and Skype.
Here is the only webcam, from Logitech, that I was using on my previous G4 that was both PC and Mac compatible, but the requirements say you need 1.0 Ghz CPU and OS X 10.5.8 Leopard.
    http://www.logitech.com/en-us/webcam-communications/webcams/hd-webcam-c615
Logitech also has a few Mac compatible USB headset audio/microphones, but don't mention Skype compatibilty.
You would need to buy and try to test.
Plantronics makes only one or two models that will work with Macs and general Internet Telephony and include Skype, also.
    Here is one here.
