Both Safari 4.1 and Camino 2.0.3 browser issues

Hi,
I have issues with both of the browsers I have installed on my powerbook G4 17" laptop.
Safari takes 10-12 minutes for the home-page to load. After it loads, I can surf properly again but then after 5-30 minutes of surfing, I get the spinning beach ball. If I wait (5-10 minutes) for something to happen, I get the window with the message stating that safari crashed and asks if I want to reopen or close the application. The only other way to close safari immediately is to force quit. This problem has been happening for about 1-2 months.
Camino opens normally, in terms of speed, but I almost immediately get the spinning beach ball. Again, if I wait 5-10 minutes, the application closes and I get the same window as I get with safari quitting. I also use force quit to close camino. This problem has also been happening for about 1-2 months.
My internet comes from a high-speed connection hard wired into a windows pc which is also connected to an apple airport extreme which provides our wi-fi. The windows pc also has the pc version of safari and it starts up immediately and doesn't crash like my mac laptop's safari. My laptop runs off of the airport extreme's wi-fi signal, but there are no problems with the wi-fi because there are 2 iphone 3GSs and one ipod touch also running off the same wi-fi and there are no issues using the mobile safari at all. So the problem must be with my mac laptop....
Thanks for any suggestions.

Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
I FOLLOWED these instructions then restarted my machine. No effect.
If third party add-ons aren't the issue, From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons and click Reset. Relaunch Safari. If still takes a long time to load your home page...
I FOLLOWED these instructions then restarted my machine. No effect.
Repair Disk Permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
I FOLLOWED these instructions then restarted my machine. No effect. (I knew about this feature in disk utility from using final cut pro on my mac, so use it regularly).
Try logging into another user account. Try Safari functions as it should there then at least the problem is isolated to your user account only.
I FOLLOWED these instructions then restarted my machine and this one WORKED!! I now log into the new account and safari starts up immediately like before. I'm not sure what's wrong with my old account, but this tip worked well.
Try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file. Go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop.
Relaunch Safari and see if that makes a difference. If not, move the .plist file back to the Preferences folder. If Safari functions as it should, move that .plist file to the Trash.
If nothing above helps, please post a crash log.
Open a Finder window. From the Menu Bar click Go / Go to Folder. Copy/paste this path into the Finder dialog: ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter
Click Go. The Finder will open containing the crash log. Copy and paste the most recent log here in your reply.
Note. For help with Camino, check out their forums here. http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=12

  • IOS 8 and Web Outlook In A Browser Issue

I have a 3rd gen iPad and iPhone 5 both currently 8.1.  I started having problems using Web Outlook email (work not personal) when I updated to IOS 8. I also did each update to IOS 8 without resolution. The problem is "responding" to emails. Most often, I am not able to respond to emails. When I touch the reply, there will be a spinning as it appears to be trying to load a new screen or it just sits there without loading. I have used both Safari and Dolphin browsers wih the same result. I can view emails, calendar, contacts. It seems to be the responding.
i have have also noticed a problem when i am able to reply, that I will suddenly not be able to see what I have typed. Then when I hide the keyboard, suddenly the words wil appear. I also have problems sometimes with editing and I when I use the back button(x) to erase, it wont actuallly erase, just goes over the letters and leaves them on the screen. If I close the screen and save draft, I can sometimes go back and edit.
I just noticed now when typing in this screen, that my keyboard lost the prediction for a short time. It doesn't add period when I double space, it doesn't capitalize the I if I type it and hit space etc.  Then it suddenly started doing it again.
Wondering if anyone anyone else has noticed this issue
    Thanks
    mrcminnesota

Can someone kindly help me on this? Is there any possible solution for the scenario that i mentioned?
All I need to is to quickly launch all the UI Maps or all the screens of an OUAF application in a browser, using some java classes in OUAF or any java script method...

  • Hi there. Both Firefox (5.0) and Camino have suddenly lost there link to the user profiles. Neither programme will open.

I have tried to edit the profile using the terminal mode using the CLI code instruction ("/Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -profilemanager") doesn't work. The error messgae states profile is missing. I have attempted to reinstall Firefox. This has no effect.

    Your posting somewhat confused me.
It sounds like you have two versions of Acrobat installed. You say you own Acrobat 9. You also say you installed a version of Acrobat  CS 5.5. Does that mean you installed the Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 on your computer as well? There is no such product as  Acrobat CS5.5. CS5.5 would install Acrobat X.
However, if you had installed CS55 you may have to open at least one of the other CS5.5 applications before you can open Acrobat X. That's because Acrobat X is not well integrated into the Creative Suite.
    Am I understanding your situation?

  • Safari and Camino both hang on specific sites

    Hi all
I'm trying to help my girlfriend out with a problem on her computer. Just today, Safari stopped loading the NYTimes home page. It gets most of the way through loading the site, then hangs with a spinning beach ball. Thinking it might be browser related, I got her on to Camino, but it fails the same way. No crash, just a hang.
I read several other posts here that seemed related, and have so far tried:
    1) Renaming the hard drive, and restarting Safari
    2) Uninstalling and reinstalling Flash
    3) Repairing permissions
    4) Trying a 'new' account (I actually just logged in as Guest, figured that was enough)
and Safari still does not open successfully. It also fails on Youtube, People, etc, so does seem like a Flash problem.
This is on a 13" Macbook Duo, running 10.6.4. On my computer, a 15" Macbook Pro also running 10.6.4, both Safari and Camino work fine on the same pages.
Her machine worked fine as of yesterday, and there's been no updates to the machine since then. Any ideas on what to check?
    Thanks

Thanks for the tips. Sadly that did not solve the problem.
I deleted cache.db. There was nothing in the ~/Library/* directories referred to by that link. The /Library/Internet Plug-ins folder had two things that were non-Flash and non-Quicktime related in there, one was a Shockwave file and the other was Microsoft Silverlight. I followed the instructions to uninstall Silverlight given at Microsoft's website.
After all that, Safari still hangs with the beachball at the NYTimes website and others. I noticed another post that recommended using Activity Monitor to sample the process, the output is below. Any other things to try?
Sampling process 4520 for 3 seconds with 1 millisecond of run time between samples
    Sampling completed, processing symbols...
Analysis of sampling Safari (pid 4520) every 1 millisecond

  • Safari and Camino!

Both Safari and Camino 'hang' when loading a new page or link and also when first opening either. It takes at least 30 seconds to open and usually I have to stop loading and start again. I have done all the things suggested for other people but with no improvement. I installed Camino because of problems with Safari and now am wondering if IE would be better?
I have had my G5 since June and have very little on the HD. Advice would be appreciated please but in language suited to an old lady! Thanks.

    Hi Brenda
Many people are reporting problems with the Airport wireless card inside, and it often seems to drop the connection periodically.
Check the number of dark blue bars in Internet Connect in the Applications folder (or black vs grey curved lines on the menu bar if you've checked the box "Show Airport status in bar" in Internet Connect). If there are none, then it could be such a problem. Often turning the Airport Card on and off, fixes it, and it usually solves itself.
If you have good signal strength, then the problem will be with your Internet Service Provider.
In fact, far from there being a new version of IE, from 31st January 2006 it is no longer available for download at all, From the MS Mac site
    http://www.microsoft.com/mac/
    Quote:
"INTERNET EXPLORER FOR MAC NO LONGER AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD
In June 2003, the Microsoft Macintosh Business Unit announced that Internet Explorer for Mac would undergo no further development, and support would cease in 2005. In accordance with published support lifecycle policies, Microsoft ended support for Internet Explorer for Mac on December 31st, 2005, and is not providing any further security or performance updates.
Accordingly, as of January 31st, 2006, Internet Explorer for the Mac is no longer available for download from Microsoft. It is recommended that Macintosh users migrate to more recent web browsing technologies such as Apple's Safari."
However the last version released 5.2.3 works quite I believe. I use 5.2.2 okay on the odd occasion when a site doesn't like Safari.
I am having hanging times myself since upgrading to 10.4.5, but that was today, and it might just be my connection tonight...

  • Safari and Camino -- lighter text

Can someone confirm something strange I'm seeing? If I go to the NYTimes homepage in Safari and Camino, the one in Camino has text that looks a lot lighter than that in Safari. Clicking on an article results in text that looks dark, as it does in Safari. Just curious. Both are still set to default to Times 16, so I'm wondering why Camino renders much lighter.

I don't get it. I have another question. A site I visited allows Safari to click on links, but Camino only allowed certain links.

  • Safari (and Camino) crash on pages that are Flash-heavy

    Hi there,
Recently, both Safari and Camino have crashed when they've gone to pages with Flash intensive pages. Some times it crashes right away (15-30 seconds), other times it can crash after about 25-30 minutes, but it always crashes.
I have made sure everything has been updated (Flash 9,0,20,0), I have repaired disk permissions (off the start-up disk) and cleared caches, but to no avail.
I have listed the latest Safari crash report. Since it is also happening in Camino, I am reasonably sure there is some sort of conflict between Flash and my MacBook.
Please feel free to respond as I will answer any additional question you may have to help me solve this problem. Thank you.

    Hi again Wildcat,
Well, I decided to go to the main page (www.xgenstudios.com). It tuns out that the front page doesn't show up at all, even when all of the boxes checked off. (I checked on Camino and the front page showed up). The ads show up, but nothing else.
This is seems Normal, all items that make up the web page in Safari are deselected.
•Macromedia seems to be the problem not Java nor Javascript.
With only the Plugins Disabled in the Security tab in Safari preferences leaving the Java checked, go to the page, does it crash Safari.?
    • For comparison the web page does not crash either of my Safari versions 1.3.2 or 2.0.4 on the two ppc or the intel http://www.xgenstudios.com/play/motherload/
BTW - If I uncheck the Java Script box, the page doesn't show up.
That is also normal it is coded using javascript language ( & java) it has 20 odd errors, nothing to write home about, not a problem, same will happen to many website including this one. Motherload Validation report if the box are all deselected

    You say,
9,0,20,0 (I even deleted it and reinstalled it...still crashes).
I see that your crash tells this is the version you are running.
    com.macromedia.Flash Player.plugin 9.0.0 (1.0.4f20)
    • You need to to USE the uninstaller, is that what you did?
    • Was that before or after you FIRST posted or after.
    • Did you follow these exact steps from, a must to follow them exactly.
Steps for troubleshooting quoted from MacromediaFlash Player Tech Note
"If you have trouble with installation of Flash Player 9 for Intel-based Macs, then follow these troubleshooting steps. If one step does not correct the problem, then move onto the next step. For optimal troubleshooting, after each step, restart your machine, and Test Adobe Flash Player before moving onto the next step.
    1) Verify the installed version of Flash Player
    • If the installed version is 9.0.20.0, then you have the Flash Player 9 final release installed.
    • If the installed version is 8.0.17.0, or 8.0.27.0, then you have the Flash Player 8 preview release installed. Download and install the final release version of Flash Player 9 available here.
    • If the installed version is 8.0.22.0, or 8.0.24.0, and you are not running Safari in Rosetta mode, then you have the PowerPC version of Flash Player 8 installed. You can only run this version in Rosetta mode. You can follow the steps below to run Flash Player 8 in Rosetta, or download and install the final release version of Flash Player 9 available here.
    2) Reinstall
Many issues are related to a problem with a previous installation of Flash Player or to browser configuration.
To reinstall Flash Player, first run the Flash Player Uninstaller. Then download and run the Flash Player 9 installer available here..............more here where this is quoted from. Flash Player TechNote
    • Before Uninstalling & reinstalling the Flash Player.
    • Try disconnecting All Third party peripherals from your computer USB items Printers, mp3 players & mouse and keyboard only try Safari
Connecting them back, ONE at a time, trying Safari as you go, see is it crashes.
Good luck! please keep us posted.

I assume you say "no internet" access because of no browser.
This terminal command will download Safari Version 5.0.5 to your home folder from terminal.app ( no browser)  copy and paste:
    curl -o Safari.dmg -R http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/Safari5/041-0564.20110413.Fi9pb/Safari5.0.5SnowLeopard.dmg
note: you can cd to Desktop to download to Desktop instead of home folder, before you start the above download:
    cd to Desktop
After download is complete click the .dmg and install as usual.

  • Both safari and firefox are telling me that websites are not "verified" and that they cannot identify the sites

When I turned on my computer today, the date and time were completely wrong.  I then went to sign into familiar websites I use (gmail, facebook, etc) and both safari and firefox had pop ups that said that they could not "identify" and "verify" the sites.  Once I verified, the sites would go through but wouldn't be completely loaded and won't work.

The date & time MUST be set correctly (within a few minutes and the correct Time Zone), or httpS: sites cannot work.

  • Having issue with safari not starting when I open it.  I am having this issue with iOS 7 on both a iPhone 4S and 5.

Have successfully updated 2 items and Safari the last both are having issues.  Safari opens but then stalls.  I have reset and restored the iPhone and I am seeing the same issues.

I just tested this on my wife's phone and you are right. I tested it time and again, changing the vibrate to ON and OFF and it consistently reproduces the problem, in line with the vibrate being on or off. You are a genius lol.
I had this issue on my phone too, but it disappeared when I followed the advice of a Genius.
When I asked my local Genius, he said it was a software issue and that a Restore followed by Create a new iPhone would remove the faulty/corrupted file that is causing the issue. He specified not to restore from backup, as the problem might still be resident within the backup.
I did this, and it seemed to work on her phone. Then it reappeared, so I'm still not sure what's going on. But your discovery defnitely holds true for her phone. My one seems to be okay regardless of the vibrate on or off now, even though I did exactly the same restore procedure on mine.

  • HT1338 I am trying to download java onto my macbook pro, but for some reason this function isn't recognizing the internet.  The error message insists that I am not connected but I am.  I have tried this through both safari and firefox

Sorry I didn't realize the above was just a subject line.
I have been trying to download java for my macbook pro, but for some reason the function is not recognizing the internet.  I am on and have checked several times .... I have checked through both safari and firefox but to no avail.  Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Not really a reply just some added info:
This is the error message I get saying the internet is not on, but clearly as I can send this message it has to be:
To open “Java Preferences,” you need to install a Java runtime, but you are not connected to the Internet.
I am connected through Wi-fi if that makes a difference.

  • Is there any diffence in rendering websites with safari for windows and safari for mac os, or are both equal?

Is there any diffence in rendering websites with safari for windows and safari for mac os, or are both equal?
So is it necessary to buy a mac to guarantee that a website acts like it should, or is the Safari for Windows enough?

Pages render the same for Mac and Windows in Safari.

Turn on Bookmark sync in iCloud preferences on both machines. (Both must be signed into the same iCloud account)

  • Both Safari and Firefox will not load webpage

This is an issue in both Safari and Firefox (I use Firefox as my default, but since it's happening in Safari too, I figured I could post the problem here). I frequently visit Crate & Barrel's website and cb2.com, and as of recent I have not been able to load the site. I've tried on both my eMac (Safari and Firefox) and on my new iMac. I was able to load the page on a windows computer in my house. I'm not sure if I ever viewed their website on my iMac since it's new as of last month. On the eMac I visited the site often. Why all of the sudden would I not be able to load the website? Any help is greatly appreciated!

You have to love when Customer Service reps don't actually read your message:
    To Crate & Barrel:
"I recently have not been able to access the Crate&Barrel
website on either my Apple eMac or my new iMac. However, I can access
the site on a Windows computer. I am using Firefox, so it can't be an
issue with the browser. I try to access the site using Safari and that
does not work either. I used to visit the site often on my eMac and
never had any issues loading the page. Any ideas as to what the problem
may be? And why all of the sudden? Any help is appreciated."
    Crate & Barrel's Response:
    "Thank you for your email.
If you are experiencing problems with our website site, feel free to download any of the following recommended browsers:
Firefox (For Mac, Windows and Linux)

If this does not work, we are not sure why you are experiencing difficulties. Please try to visit our website again later."
Are you serious? Did I not mention that I was using both Safari and Firefox?

  • Both safari and firefox have been a downhill battle

    os 10.6.8
    safari 5.1
    firefox 6.0
    latest java and flash
for the past 6 months or more both fireflox and safari have been a challenge. sites that rely on java or media intensive have become near impossible. by this I mean interactive forums are becoming very difficult by my posts being fairly erratic or flash sites such as http://www.intellicast.com, a weather site being almost impossible to navigate by becoming very slow and my cursor jumping between a hand and pointer and not working very well. sites such as IMDb internet movie data base preview movies loading slow and freezing throughout.
believe this is not an issue of connection speed due to looking at this and downloads are not effected. when firefox had a recent update/link for flash it improved for about a week and then continued downhill. went back to safari with a choice of clicking on the window to use flash app and was a little better but still a problem. have run virus detections apps. dumped both browsers caches and reinstalled both os and browsers ..
seems to be an issue of media such as flash and just gets worse by the day.

ok.. connected through modem with ethernet cable.. rebooted in safe mode mode..
results: not really changed with the exception of no sound or volumn control and an interesting message when using firefox and going to a site historically at least before the last 6 mos or so to function without problems.
http://www.intellicast.com/Local/WxMapFull.aspx     a national weather site.. in safari had the recent issues of cursor jumping around and not changing from a hand to a pointer but in firefox received the following message when attempting to load the page (flash)
    "Could not load configuration settings.
    IMAP cannot start.
    Details:
    Error #2032"
when I rebooted not in safe mode with firefox and returned to the same site no longer received this message???
sort of thinking outloud... just maybe (and from various articles read over the recent months) apples os development and internet developers are not on the same page relative to primarily flash issues as well as some others. maybe time to punt and reinstall an earlier os version such as late 10.5 and earlier versions of firefox and safari... a real pain in the ... basically a reformat of hd and total reinstall ...but cannot think of an alternative considering things are going downhill with every update both by apple os and browsers.
