Bottom 2/3 of screen messes up when pressing on right side of frame

My MBP is under warranty, but it's having a screen issue that I have already sent it into Apple for repair once before. I'm figuring out what causes the problem though. It appears that when the right side of the screen's frame flexes (the 3/8" piece of aluminum) or when I push about 1/3 of the way up from the bottom, it causes the bottom 2/3 of the screen to fade to black. It's so strange. It first started manifesting itself as flickering in the screen where stripes of what was on the screen (left to right stripes) would start getting jumbled and jump around the screen. Very hard to describe.
Anybody know what's around the point just above the right side hinge that would affect the bottom 2/3 of the screen? I want to make sure I can adequately describe this to Apple when I reopen a trouble ticket on this problem.
Thanks-
John

I am having the same issue on my Santa Rosa MBP (A1226).
My computer is no longer under warranty and I was wondering if replacing the LCD panel (and not the entire display assembly which includes the hinge assembly, etc.) should resolve this problem.
Thanks.

I suggest that you take the MBP into an Apple store genius bar for a free evaluation.  There are liquid sensors inside and they should check if any have been activated.  This may give you a clue as to what you may expect regarding future reliability.

  • The bottom part of display whiter than the rest, white on right side more brownish

So I got a new replacement of my Thunderbolt Display, this time the one I got is straight (previously left side was lower than the right side), however I can see in new one that the bottom part of the display seems to be more white (you can see a slight horizontal line at the bottom) and also on the right side of the display white colour seems to be more brownish.
I have been wondering if that is acceptable for Thunderbolt monitor? Is that a backlit bleed on white? Can you see anything on the photo I have made or am I going slightly mad?:) Please help.

The display uses LED technology which means there will be some bleeding or clouding of light on dark backgrounds (mostly from the edges).  You should not have any brown color on the right side as your image shows unless perhaps you need to make some adjustments on your graphics card.  I use mine with a 2012 Mini and it has good colors.

  • How can i share contact from recent call screen?  Used to go to right side of number and it would pull up your options, but share contact is not there anymore

how can I share contact from the recent call screen?  Used to be able to touch right side of number and have that option.  It is no longer there.

Touch the cirle i and then scroll down to share contacts.  I just tested this out myself.

  • MY IPHONE SCREEN HAS GONE SEPIA. The RIGHT SIDE OF THE SCREEN IS BLACK!

Hello, my iPhone screen has turned sepia. No one say 'click the home button 3 times' or 'turn white on black off' because I have tried them!
Basically on the right side of the screen there is a black part. About a quarter of the screen it fills.
It is sepia too. It is really hard to see things. Also, say if i am on the home screen, then i open settings; the home screen would be in the background!!

  • Screen goes down when pressed in the corner?

Basically, in the bottom right hand corner of my iPod, I can press down, and the screen will go down? Get what I mean?
It doesn't happen in any of the other causes, and just wondered if there is anything I can do about it, or if it could cause further damage?

If I'm understanding what you're saying your Touch Screen is going way further than it should be.
You should go to nearest Apple Store and let them check it out. It's a manufacturer error.

  • Screen Edge/Rim not level at right side

My iPod touch 4Gen that I got on Black friday in 2010, has the right hand side of the screen edge/rim not level, when you run your finger along you will get a "sharp" edge/rim to the screen.  And it is just the edge/rim of the screen.  This has always had it and it made me notice it more today when my Brother got a new iPod touch.  Is there any point at getting Apple to look at it.  I should have got it replaced back when I got it but back last year I was more into the light bleed via gaps in the rim (as this was the second one), I didnt really notice it until it was too late aka out of the 14 day return.

This is the way it came, so nothing to do with me.  I will give AppleCare a ring and explain see what they will suggest.  And if they say to bring it back I will do it.
Am sure if the batch is all the same or some of the batch, then its was done by Foxconn during the manufacting.
Dents and scratches yes you have to accept that, but not the screen being defected.  I should have changed it within the 14 day period.
I am really puzzled why foxconn has a hard time creating prefect device.  I went thought 5 iPad 2s because they werent prefect, and 4 MacBook Pro 17"s because they werent prefect.
Plus here in the UK we have greater consumer protection when it comes to faults.  The edge/rim of the screen being lower to the rest of the device with no signs of damage = automatic proof that its a inherted fault.

  • Warping cursor to other screen in Awesome, when reaching screen edge

I'm using xfce with awesome as window manager. One of the most annoying "feature" in xfce is that desktop icons are always in the left screen. Because I'm using Awesome, I can't move icons manually to the right screen and because of xfdesktop's nature Awesome can't set it to spawn only to one screen or to set coordinates.
Setting right screen to left in config sets desktop icons to the correct screen but this has the obvious disadvantage. I started thinking is possible for Awesome to counter this behavior by controlling where cursor warps to the other screen. Like when cursor reached right screen's left edge, it would appear in left screen's right edge (and vice versa) and when it reached right screen's right edge, it would stay in that screen (and similarly in left screen).
what I managed to produce is following in Awesome's config (I can set correct values for all edges when basics work):
    mousegrabber.run(function (mouse)
    if mouse.x == 0 then
    mouse.coords({x=200, y=200}, silent)
    return true
    end
    return true
    end, "fleur")
It manages to listen the mouse, but it doesn't however work anywhere near as intended. Only thing it does is change mouse cursor to ugly when starting awesome and to normal when cursor reaches left edge of the right screen. In the meanwhile mouse doesn't interact anymore with anything else.
What I'd want the script do is:
1.) warp when cursor to the set coordinates when it reaches the edge
2.) stay always on (now it exits when edge is reached)
3.) Awesome to work normally when mouse is listened
4.) Cursor to stay normal (this probably can be done by modifying the files)
how should the script be modified to achieve aforementioned?
Also if anyone has any other ideas about how to get xfce's desktop (not some dock widgets) to behave properly, I'd be glad to hear them.

After a lot of hassle and searching I found much simpler and better solution to my problem. In Xfce xfdesktop uses xfwm4 for moving icons. But for some other desktops, a file manager handles the whole thing and they work well under Awesome. I tried Nautilus and pcmanfm and I don't really have anything bad to say from the later one, it works quite perfectly under Awesome.

  • The screen no longer displays a playlist column and when I hit the plus sign the screen no longer has a right side column to let me make a new playlist. Now what?

The screen which comes up no longer displays a playlist column and when I hit the plus sign and choose new playlist the screen doesn't display the narrow right side column for a new playlist. Does this have something to do with the new iTunes version I installed?

  • I phone 6 screen shows bright colored line at right long edge

My iphone 6 (space gray, 64 GB) shows some distorted colors (they vary) along the right long edge of the screen (facing it in normal orientation).
Just want to know if this is an unusual problem; it's become more noticeable in the past 3 weeks, especially when info on screen has lighter colored background. Such as iTunes or App store...but not limited to those.
It's not very wide (less than 1/8th inch) but I'm finding it distracting and want to know if it's a problem that can be addressed/fixed or I just need to adjust to it.
It is viewable straight on or moreso if screen held even a bit angled (right side angled back).
    Thanks in advance.

I got it at Target, where I doubt they'll be able to do much for me now; would going to the Genius Bar make more sense? Thanks again.

No I doubt anyone at Target would be much help. They would likely just send it away and say we'll call you when it's back. As suggested make an appointment at an Apple store and have them take a look at it. Don't forget to backup your data before going in.

  • The left side of my display/screen is darker than the right side.

Running a 27 inch, Mid 2011 iMac.   Left side of screen is obviously darker than the right side.  Any one else have this happen?  Any solutions?

Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service. Either the display is bad, the GPU has failed, or the display backlighting has failed.

  • Loud Click when I press the right half of my trackpad mouse button

    Hello,
I have been using a macbook for the past year, and just recently I get a very load metal on metal click or crunching noise when I press the right side of my trackpad mouse button. I have removed the battery and looked behind to see the trackpad assembly and when I press on the corresponding side of the assembly it also make the same clack or click or bad noise. When I do the same to the opposite side there is no noise. My guess is that there is a spring on that side that has come undone, am I right? If so how do I fix it? I bought my laptop in the US, but right now and for the next few months I am living in Norway (no apple stores) is there a place where I can bring it to in order to get warrentied service? Will apple mail me the part? It ought to be fairly easy to fix. Thanks

I also had a trackpad 'click' problem ...my complete topcase had to be replaced. Although there may not be an 'Apple Store' in Norway, I'm sure there are Apple certified dealers there that can complete the repair. Here's a list of contact numbers...

The repair itself (top case) should only take a few hours.

two things to try: either click the green "zoom" bottom at the topLeft of the window in the title bar, or go to your System Prefs and then Displays, and increase the resolution that is used

  • Apple messed up the dock when its on the side of the screen...

I want to know why, oh why, the Leopard dock isn't as cool when it is on the side of the screen instead of the bottom?! I have always used my dock on the side of the screen cause it takes up so much less space. But you cannot launch stacks in fan view, only grid view and the dock isn't as nice and shiny!! The whole reason I bought Leopard was because of the fan view! Why did they do this? If I am missing something and that shouldn't be the case then please let me know. Thanks.

the new side dock looks awful, but it's an improvement over the beta versions which had the mirrored shelf on the side. if you'd like to modify the way it looks slightly, you can change the dock border graphics (in this case, the white line that runs along the outside of the dock while it is on the side) by going to System -> Library -> CoreServices -> Right-click on Dock and choose "Show Package Contents". Then, look for either "left1.png" to "left5.png" (or right1.png to right5.png) and modify the graphics as you see fit. Basically, the dock border is an 8-pixel-wide repeated graphic that runs along the outside edge. I changed mine to eliminate the white line and rounded corners and just fade off to the desktop, but it's still ugly...hopefully someone will come up with a better way of doing it soon...

thats a screenshot of my modified dock. not the best looking thing, but better than the half-assed version it shipped with.
