Bottom case screw not sitting flush

One of the screws on the bottom of my MacBook pokes out about 1mm from the bottom surface of the laptop when tightly screwed in. This causes it to rub against uneven table surfaces and has caused it to put a scratch in one of my wood tables.
Anybody else having this problem? Can I bring this into an Apple retail store and get this repaired / exchanged without sending it into the depot?

Call the store. I believe extension 5 gives you a real person.
No one here knows Apple's exact policy.

  • PNY StorEDGE 128GB not sitting flush with MAC book PRO retina display 13" and was recommend to by apple!!

I was recommended by apple online suppot to purchase the pny storedge to increase the memory on my mac and was informed it would sit flush with the mac. After purchasing this online which was not cheap it arrived and I inserted it into my mac and low and behold it does not sit flush with my mac book and only fits in half way. Feeling a little bit robbed, can anyone advise if this is supposed to fit in all of the way?

I own both the mid 2013 13" MacBook Air and the late 2013 13" MacBook Pro retina display.  I have the same 128 GB StorEDGE card.  The SD card slot in the MacBook Pro is not as deep as the slot in the MacBook Air. The card fits nearly flush in the Air, but extends farther out in the Pro.  The Apple store staff were unaware of the card slot difference until I showed them. Nothing you can do other than return the SD card if you are not satisfied with it.

  • Why does the iPad Air Smart Case not sit flush?

I bought one today and was immediately disappointed.
When the cover is closed the first 1/3 sections (closest to the hinge) is raised above the screen. When it's fully opened in 'reading' mode, the cover lumps up on the back of the iPad. This makes it uncomfortable to hold in the hand and it's strange this design decision was allowed to make it to a final product. Additionally, when in 'standing' mode for watching video, the folding stand has a tendency to fall on itself every now and then.
Why wasn't it designed so it lies flush in both open and closed mode? I've been using a cheaper 3rd party case for the last 6 months that was better designed. The only difference is the quality of materials. However if I'm paying $100 for an Apple case I expect perfect design, function and quality. It fails in the design and function department. The leather feels nice to touch, but it doesn't compensate for its flaws.
Reading through Apple forums and other review sites, it appears I'm not alone. I haven't made up my mind yet but I'm leaning towards a refund.

The stiffness of the leather hinge is probably what is causing this. I'm assuming that it will get better as time goes on and the leather "breaks-in" from use and becomes more flexible. You can possibly help it along by periodically creasing the hinge manually where it bends, like you'd crease a sheet of paper. You are by all means entitled to a refund so that's your choice & option as well.

  • My iPad (1st gen) screen does not sit flush to the silver band around the side. What can I do about it?

I'm not sure what i can do about this. I have a 64GB 3G iPad which is 14 months old on 25th feb and I have always looked after it. The screen has always been a little off being flush with the sides but its really noticable now.

IMHO, you should have taken it back as soon as you noticed it. If you have bought the extended warranty then I'd take it into the APple store and have them look at it. (barring any signs of obvious abuse it should be covered under manufacturer's defects), but if you have no extended warranty then at 14 months old, it would be out of warranty. You can still take it in, but  you'll probably have to pay for it....so then you'll decide if the repair is worth the money.

  • When I try to order a new bottom case for my macbook is sais that your macbook is not part of this program.

When I go on to google I type in replace bottom of macbook case it takes me to apple support I select 'feel free to order yourself' so I click that I select my country and enter my serial number and it comes up with 'The Apple product serial number you entered is not part of this program' What do I do?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If you see that your Mac isn't part of the program, that's because your MacBook isn't affected by that problem so, if the bottom case isn't damaged, you don't have to worry.
If it's affected, take the computer to an Apple Store or reseller to get the bottom case replaced. In this case, unless your Mac is in warranty, you will have to pay

  • Yoga disintegrates when case screws loosen: an analysis and how to get help?

My Yoga 13 physically fell apart after just 18 months of quiet, academic use. I'm trying to have it repaired with the extended credit card company policy -- but I'm afraid Lenovo will block my attempt based on what appears to be a not uncommon response to these complaints: the warranty does not cover abuse. A warranty claim must imply a measure of culpability on the manufacturer.
So, I will try to document here why the Lenovo Yoga hinge design is a case of corporate hubris that have allowed some basic engineering principles to be violated. These are strong words but I believe I can back them up.
I'll hope that this will get the attention of others who have run into this problem so that, hopefully, Lenovo will coorporate in its resolution. Customers tend to become irate when their product literally falls apart after just a year or two of gentle use -- to be told its their own fault.
As for my factual findings, the hubris is easy to document. For the growing "legend of our IdeaPad Yoga" and its "boundary-busting PC" design see The 360 Degrees (and 25,000 Hinge Tests) of Yoga Design, where the hinge is presented more or less as a miracle.
Nemesis is of course what happens in real life:
    Link to image
(The laptop looks beaten up here because I tried to apply epoxy glue after disintegration. Only with this experiment did I realize how inherently faulty the design is.)
What you see here is a catastrophic failure of the whole sandwich of mechanical support: the brittle magnalium (the grey layer at the bottom) and the black plastic framing are by design receiving the torque of lid manuevers along the line of the fracture. The zinc alloy that's part of the hinge embedded in the frame is strong, but it is bizarrely only about 8mm long (measured along side of laptop). I would have expected it to be about 30-40 mms long, sticking well into the base along the area of the rubber pad. That's the first of a series of problems:
Problem #1. The zinc alloy plate is underdimensioned.
Problem #2. The integrity of the design relies on a screw of miniscule size (shown next to pencil). If this screw is the slightest loose, then the sandwich looses all of its stiffness. A catastrophic break will occur because of #1.
Problem #3. There is no duplication of this critical component (this tiny screw). Your $1000 depends on it being there and very tightly in place.
Problem #4. But the screw is not safely secured. It is held in place with a locking compound (seen as blue on the picture). Obviously, this locking compound fails with heat and mechanical stresses. There is no lock washer.
Problem #5. Lenovo has not acknowledged these flaws. Customer laptops will continue to suffer from loosening screws and then hinge or case failure that then will be attributed to "customer abuse".
I'd also be curious to know whether newer Yoga versions are made as prone to break?
I like the concept of the Yoga but I feel I blew a $1000 on it. (The wifi and trackpad problems are minor in comparision to the mechanical design, which can best be characterized by the name of yellow fruit, at least for this Yoga 13.)
For others whose Yoga hasn't broken yet, you might want to buy a bit set with the Torx T-5 that allows to tighten your hinge screws (other case screws loosen, too).
If your hinge becomes the slightest loose, you must check your screw!!!!!!
But that by itself is a temporary solution: the screws need to be fixated.
I don't know how to do that. Perhaps Lenovo should do a recall on the whole series? Otherwise, customers will get quite unhinged as well....
Moderator note: large image(s) converted to link(s):  About Posting Pictures In The Forums

Follow-up: as others have experienced, Lenovo does apparently not accept loose or missing screws or consequental dammage as a valid warranty claim.
Indeed, I received the message from Lenovo: "After further diagnosis, our repair engineers found damages on your computer that is not covered by the Lenovo limited warranty."
Yet, I had very clearly explained that the mechanical damage was the result of a missing screw.
Thus my extended warranty claim was easily denied, because this warranty extends the original warranty!! More wasted work.
So, I have my Yoga back, though, for almost three hundred dollars. The repair was fine. Nightmare is over. But I won't hide my feelings: I'm profoundly unhappy this treatment. Also, I'm abstaining from using the Yoga in tablet mode: it's simply not sturdy enough, the flexing of the case will lead to the same problem again.
Luckily, as a laptop it works quite well!

The cheapest I could find on eBay was $100 so on this occasion your best deal is HP.

  • Creaking noise coming from bottom case.

I just got a new macbook pro as a replacement for a lemon about a week ago. Everything seems to be working fine. There is one thing that is worrying me though. When im laying down and have my macbook on my chest I can hear it make creaking noises. At first I thought it was no big deal but its starting to annoy me. I put the bottom of the macbook up to my ear to see what the noise was and it sounds like the bottom case flexes and produces the creaking sound. Is this normal? I am trying to avoid any repairs on this macbook for this issue since I have had bad experiences with repairs in the past. Can anyone confirm if this is normal?

' Hey guys (and any gals)!
' I'm using the 17-inch unibody which doesn't have the removable panels etc. that some of you might - so I'm honestly not entirely sure how relevant this is - but I thought sharing this with you might prove useful or interesting anyways...
' AFAIK the story about the fans is a load of bull! The only fans in the Unibody system are right up almost against the screen's hinge and they aren't resting against or too near the casing.
' Even without the panels you have, my system occasionally creaks a little - generally when I have it sitting on a very uneven surface that itself moves and shifts where it's applying pressure to the bottom of the case. From my perspective, and on my machine, it would appear to be nothing other than a little "give-and-take" of the casing (i.e. the metal) itself. It's slight, infrequent, and seems perfectly natural and normal (to be expected) to me.
' Again - this may NOT be what you may be experiencing - I don't know. But maybe this info / perspective / experience helps...

    Hi Friends,

    IR Error:
Account determination for entry CASI DIF not possible.
Please help to how to resolve.
    Warm regds,
    Raman,

    Hi,
If you click on the message you will get help, it will show you exactly which entry in the auto account assignment table is missing. Note the details (COA valuation area etc.) then at the bottom of the message is a link to take you into the transaction where you can make the appropriate settings (assuming that you have access and this is not your production live system).
CASI may well be yyour chart of accounts and DIF is the transaction event key. The system needs to know which GL to post to in this situation.

  • False/True Case is not working. Please Help!

    Dear all,
I attached my block diagram, one attachment refers to true case and the other refers to false case.
My program runs like this: when i run the vi , after homing the motor (there is home.vi), DAQ is collecting the values in the while loop, and according to the DAQ's value, motor should run the False/True case but it does not
As a result: true/false case is not working which is located at the outside of the loop(bottom side of the block diagram)
When i put the the True/false inside the Loop(DAQ's loop) , then it is working. But this brings lots of problem, two of them is:
1-) When the DAQ values goes below to "50" then it turns to true case again,
2-) The false case has stop.vi which cause to motor stop every iteration of the loop.
So that is why i put True/False case out of the loop but now it is not working at all.
    Please answer, waiting response.
    Thank you,
    Have a nice day,
    Kind Regards.

Cant we upgrade the vi. or do smthg that it can be able to work same time with the loop??

You have to place the case structure inside the while loop ( Any significance is there on placing the case outside the loop? ).
