Bottom portion of ipod touch4 screen not working

Since yesterday, I realized that a certain area on my ipod touch has not been responding. The area is right above the home button, where you have to slide the unlock bar for it to access the ipod. fortunately, i am able to open the ipod but whenever i try to type any messages the lower portion of the keyboard wont work. i already tried restarting and rebooting the device but the problem still persists.
Also, i noticed that this problem started shortly after ios 5 sofware download. any advice anyone!!!!

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Restore from backu
- Restore to factory defaults
If you still have a problem it is likely due to a hardware problem, a digitizer perhaps.  An appointmenrt at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is then in order.

  • Help!!! Ipod 16gb screen not working.

My ipod touch screen is not working at all, the ipod switches on and of but the screen isn't, i have tried to restore the ipod and that does not work as anyone got a clue how to get it working again or is it a goner!

I am having the same problem right now. It was working fine last night, but then the battery was low. So, I charged it. In the morning the screen was stuck onto the apple logo as if starting up. I reset it off and left it for school. Just thinking it needed a break. Today...full battery, screen does not work. It's not frozen. Everything looks like it's working but the screen doesn't react to my touching. I'm really scared. I've only had it since Christmas. Yours is a 2nd Gen. 16GB, too, correct? I'm going on vacation tomorrow and was hoping for a solution. I'm at least glad to know I'm not the only one having such a problem.

  • Brand new ipod touch screen not working properly

My sons brand new ipod touch 32gb (well bought april 14) only occasionally will respond to the touch sceen, and when he does get into it the next screens dont work properly. Any suggestions?

Try #2 and 3 in link below. If neither help, it's most likely a hardware issue then. Contact Apple and get it serviced.

  • IPod Touch Screen not Working after using Assistive Touch

    Hey everyone!
Yesterday my iPod Touch 4th gen touch screen froze (not the screen itself - it still wakes from sleep & responds to notifications and charging etc.), after myself accidentally taping 'Voice Control' on Assistive Touch.
I was wondering, since it's out of warranty (it's a couple of years old), I can't send it back. I'm currently backing up & restoring it.
Can anyone tell me if it's the software or hardware? It's going to take at least a good day or so to backup & restore, due to storage is full, and it's 32GB capacity, so it'd be good to know in advance.
And if anyone has got any other suggestions to fix it, please let me know! It'll be much appreciated.
    Thanks heaps!
PS. Please don't tell me to repair it...it'll cost just as much to fix my whole iPod, buttons & screen than it is to buy a brand new one!!

There is really no what to know if hardware or software problem without trying to restoring the iPod. First from backup and then to factory settings/new iPod. If still problem then it is a hardware problem.

  • Ipod 2G screen not working

    Please help!
I first started getting issues when i went thru airport security. The screen stopped working and i couldnt access the menu. The backlight still comes on and the music still plays (in alphabetical order only). When i returned i plugged the ipod into my pc and it reset and i could see the menu again. I used the ipod one night at work, and turned it off. The following night i turned it on again and the problem returned. I reconnected it to the pc and it didnt work. I played the ipod until the battery was dead and i saw a picture of a battery.
I recharged the ipod then i restored to factory settings and the screen worked again. When i disconnected it from the pc it went back blank with the backlight on. I tried to restore it again but it didnt work.
How can i get my screen to work.
    I have also tried the 5 G's...
    sigh.

I am having the same problem, although i don't remember what i did that made it do that. All i know is that a couple months ago (four at the most), my iPod (Nano, 2nd generation) started going to a blank white screen after I had left it on for awhile, either that or when it was locked. Once i unlocked it or toggled the screen, nothing happened; the screen stayed blank. I've tried all of the 5R's, and nothing helped.
The music still plays, and i can still adjust the sound; the screen is the only problem.
Oh yes, and after awhile once i keep resetting it many times, (by holding down the middle and "Menu" button) the screen finally shows the menu screen, yet after awhile has the same problem. I should also say it's refurbished.

  • Replaced iPod screen myself, screen not working. Will i be eligible to get a screen   LCD repair from Apple ?

I dropped my ipod by accident and i decided to repair the ipod myself by buying a screen off eBay. I replaced the the screen and everything was working when i tested the iPod before screwing the backplate back on. When i closed the iPod, it had a white screen when i power up. I held the power and home button for 30 second and nothing happens. The power button still powers the screen on and home, and when i hold it down it powers off the iPod.Replaced iPod screen myself, screen not working. • Some portion of phone screen not working.

I bought my iphone 4 in december 2011 from UK.
Its incurring a problem from past 2 weeks. Some portion in the middle is not working which disables me from using key 7, 8, 9 in the phone keypad of making calls. I tried reseting my phone but the problem still exists. Since I reside in India, I cant get it corrected from Apple service centre in India and there is no scope of me going UK by December 2012.
What should I do? Please suggest me.

I have exact same problem. Top portion won't respond and Apple was not helpful at all.
The options presented to me were:
    -199.00 for a replacement
    -99.00 for 3g
    -199.00 for 3gs
None of the above were acceptable solutions for I too spent alot for a device which I expected to last more than 2 years.
I would have been ok with a discount on an upgrade to a 3gs but I paid full price and bought the service plan becuase I anticipate a problem with my 3gs within 2 years.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • 8500 All in One - touch screen not working

One minute the touch screen with all it's functions was working fine and then, bam (!), the touch screen stopped working and I can't even use the one/off switch to power the unit off - it does not respond.  Funny thing is that the printer is still working from my computer so I can still send a print job via the wireless.   With the touch screen not working I can't use any function from the unit itself (copy a hard copy, fax a hard copy) and if the unit runs out of paper I have to unplug it to reboot since I can't hit the 'enter' on the touch screen once I've reloaded.
Bottom line --- nothing from the unit itself works.  Has a printer fairy locked me out or does this sound like a hardware error?  Thanks for any help ...

Excellent.  Let me know how round 2 treats you.  The sad demise could have been due to a couple of things...as a side question, is the climate where you live especially dry right now?  I may request that our testers recheck how well we handle a static shock on the product if it is dry where you live.

  • Bottom row of the keyboard is not working in a vertical orientation on the iPhone 3Gs. the "slide to unlock" and all keys on the calculator on both orientation works fine. I can use the keyboard on horizontal orientation.

Bottom row of the keyboard is not working in a vertical orientation on the iPhone 3Gs. the "slide to unlock" and all keys on the calculator on both orientation works fine. I can use the keyboard on horizontal orientation. The tabs on bottom of all apps also work fine.
I have already tried holding down the power button and home button for 10 seconds, but no difference.

I've had this problem on and off for the last few weeks (around, but not directly related, to upgrade to 6.1...can't remember if was before or after)....I'm very convinced it's a software problem (as there have been times when the bottom row works perfectly, without any need to "press" differently or anything).
However, it seems to be a rather resilient software issue, as a full restore does not consistently fix it, and it applies to more than just the keyboard; if I open a drawing app, there's definitely a row (about 4mm up from the edge of the screen closest to home button) where I cannot draw.
It's happened 4 times now.  Originally it went away with a restore from backup, then worked for 2 more days.  The second and third times, it went away with a full restore (although I did two full restores in between those two restores that did nothing, so restore didn't consistently fix it)....and it seemed to return in the most random of circumstances.
I paid very close attention to what apps I was using the last time it was working so that I could spot which app, if any, might be causing the issue.  I deleted several apps, I stopped using the games and many other apps.   I only used three apps between it working fine and starting up as a problem again: mail, safari and messages.
I was convinced it was mail, as it happened this morning when I picked up my phone off the bedside table to respond to a new email.  It was working when I went to bed.  I picked up the phone when it buzzed, hit the email app, hit reply and started to type....**** bottom row wasn't working again.
However, tonight I did 2 things....one of them worked because it went back to normal (sorry, I don't know which as I was exasperated and trying a number of things).
The two things I did between a broken keyboard and a working keyboard were:
    1) adding a second keyboard (English(Canada)), changing to this keyboard, and changing back
    2) disabling Siri...and then turning it back on...and then disabling Siri's "Raise to Speak"
In retrospect, I wonder if it actually was the "Raise to Speak" that was putting the phone into a weird state, and might explain why the phone would just "suddenly" start behaving strangely when I picked it up.  Of note, the "raise to speak" hasn't actually triggered Siri to come on in months anyway.
Regardless, the keyboard is back to normal now...and I'm just going to leave "Raise to Speak" off.  I've put the keyboard back to just "English" with no alternates and Siri remains on otherwise without issue.
