Bottom row of icons not responding to touch

The bottom row of my icons (mail, phone, etc . ..) do not respond when I touch them. I have tried a restore vi iTunes and reseting by holding down the on/off and home button (Several times). I am at wits end. The slide to unlock works but not even the options under settings at the very bottom of the display. Not sure if anyone has seen this exact issue so I am posting a new topic.
Thanks for all your help.

That doesn't make any sense at all. If your phone was working prior to the 2.0 update and now it doesn't...it is a corrupt SOFTWARE load on your phone. 2.0 does not change the hardware. Last time I checked, all 1st gen phones are made the same way and have the same components (assuming there is not a component failure).
If you guys are having problems...back up all your data....clean out your phone so there is nothing on it. *Re download* the update (WITHOUT INSTALLING), because you obviously have a corrupt version on your computer (reinstalling what you have is not going to fix the problem). Then install the update (Do not try and do it by downloading and installing at the same time). Once the firmware has updated...resync your data back into your phone.
See if this fixes it. Myself and a few others have been posting every day about this method and so far no one has reported any problems when they update this way. I am continually amazed that people don't take this simple extra step to minimize errors (Given the fact that there has been so many problems posted in these forums).
When new firmware is updated on a phone it backs up everything and wipes it out of your phone. Given that, why would you want to keep all personal data on the phone while it is updating? If you have several gigs of info it is only going to take that much longer to back it up, then erase, then install, then verify..etc, etc. and open the window for more things to go wrong (time outs, etc.)
Should we have to do this? No...we should be able to just plug it in and go. But like I said, so far nobody has reported any issues updating using the method I have described above....so why keep doing the same thing over and over if it is not fixing your problem.

  • My i pad is not responding to touch

My ipad is not responding to touch.  It is very slow and most of the time does not work at all.  THis problem occured a few days after I updated to the newest version.  It is an ipad1

I have an iPad 1 as well that I updated when the iOS was first released a few weeks ago and I think that the new update really sparked my iPad into "new life" again. It's so hard to tell what will happen when you update - ideally the performance of the device should improve - and not fall off.
Have you tried closing any/all open/running apps in the recents tray? Close them all and restart - see what happens.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

After upgrade firmware with iTunes my iPod does not respond to touch.
To be more precise - works, but very, very bad. And around the icons on the display is visible GRAY line of width 1 px.
Please HELP me! This iPod - the gift for my girl.
p.s. Maybe this problem arose because I reflash iPod with old cable from the iPhone?

Thanks all, i solved the problem yourself.

  • With ios 8.3 ipad mini apps sometimes do not respond when touched

a new problem occurred with ios 8.3 ipad mini applications sometimes do not respond when touched Fix it in ios 8.4

If it has NEVER been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.

Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your Music app is unresponsive, try restarting/resetting your iPhone:

My Safari screen is grayed out.  It does not respond to touch. How can I restore it back to life?

Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Cache. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and slide to shut down. then hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears to start up.
You can also reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep button and home button at the same time until the Apple logo appears (takes about 10 seconds) - ignore the red slider.

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.

Hello, try '''disabling graphics hardware acceleration'''.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
Open Firefox ''Options'' window as follows:
    * Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and select ''Options''
    * In the Firefox Options window, click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select ''General''.
    * In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
    * Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Apple iPAD 2.  Needs password to unlock iPAD; however there is a permanent keyboard displayed on the screen that does not respond to touch. iPAD switches on with button but does not turn off using it at moment.  Can you help please?

Try a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider if that appears.  See if that clears the glitch.

I'd be curious to go buy an old Linksys WRT54G Wifi Router and see how the iPads work on it....but my lord, I have already spent so much time on this issue as it is.

Unless you get that WRT54G for free or next to free, pass on it and pick up an old apple WAP off eBay or similar site. Like you my iPad has a connectivity problem with the WRVS4400N running iOS 4.2.1, where it didn't have trouble with iOS 3.2.2 and ran fine for five months.
My solution at the office was to spur a second router off my DSL router just for the iPad. The first was a WRT54G that had to be set to only one 802.11 protocol to keep the iPad reliably connected, but swapped it out for an old airport extreme that I kept on after testing it to be good. With a home network like you describe, I would run a subnet off the WRVS4400N just for iPad using an apple WAP (the configuration app for Windows is easy to use).
    Good luck.
