Bought 2nd Gen Nano. Can I give 1st Gen shuffle to somone else?

I recently got a 2nd generation nano and would like to give my 1st generation shuffle to a friend. Is it possible to do this and if so, how would I go about setting it up to her computer? Any help would be greatly appreciated. If possible, could someone in the know email me as soon as possible, it would be very much appreciated. Thank you. :o)

If you want to give your Shuffle away there's really not much you need to do. If it isn't already installed, download the latest iTunes to your friend's computer and load up whatever music she has either on the hard drive or from CDs. Then just connect the Shuffle to the PC. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Erase and Sync" and it will update from the new iTunes. You'll probably also want to rename the Shuffle:
Select your iPod in the iTunes Source list.
Click on it's its name again.
The text box will open for editing.
Type a new name.

  • Can I get 1st gen to stay awake 30 minutes while timing?

I'm giving a 30-minute talk, and want to know where I am in the half hour. Can set the 1st gen iPod Touch as  timer on 30 minutes, and not have it go to sleep during that time?

You set the Clock to alarm in 30  minutes. If you do not want the iPod to sleep, then go to Settings>General>Lock-Screen and set a sleep delay interval to 30 minuter or longer.

  • HT3215 I have been sent a nano 6th gen to replace my original 1st gen due to the battery problem.  There was no charger lead or instructions so i am unsure whether we can charger using the old charger?

charge a 6th gen as ive been sent this by apple with no instruction or leads etc?

Yes, your original USB cord will work perfectly. I treasure my 1st-Gen Shuffle cord, because it has a much easier-to-grip dock connector than the new ones.

  • Can't Update 1st-gen Shuffle

I have iTunes 7.0.2 and Mac OS X 10.4.8. My (1st-gen) shuffle is recognized and syncs older or non-DRM songs just fine, but won't sync some newer songs purchased through the iTunes Music Store. I get a message telling my to perform an update from the Summary tab.
Unfortunately, the Update and Restore buttons on the summary tab are disabled, so I can't use them. Nor can I use the iPod Updater 2.0.1 -- it never recognizes the iPod. The iPod Updater 2006-06-28 *does* recognize the iPod, but fails to recognize a software version. Likewise, the summary tab in iTunes says "n/a" for both Software Version and Serial Number. (I've tried "updating" using the 06-28 version; it tries, but gives me an error.)
How can I update this thing? I'd like to have my newer music on my iPod.

I downloaded and tried the Shuffle Reset Utility, but it couldn't restore the shuffle. I received an error message saying "No Firmware."
However, I went to my wife's Windows computer, downloaded the Shuffle reset utility, and it worked fine, there. In fact, the Shuffle worked flawlessly with Windows (I was able to sync it with my wife's iTunes library, etc).
I thought -- great, back in business! However, when I returned to the Mac and tried to sync with my own music library, I have the same problems; the Shuffle's version, serial number, et cetera isn't recognized, I can't sync newer songs, et cetera.
Obviously, the Shuffle isn't the problem. Also, the Shuffle worked fine with my Mac before the latest iTunes update; I'm beginning to think it's a Mac software issue with the update. The other possibility is a connection issue, but I've tried all the direct USB ports on the computer, and also a powered hub (also, the fact that the Shuffle worked fine, before, makes me think that the connection probably isn't the issue).
    Dunno.

  • Might be a dumb question, but I am moving from 1st gen to iPadair; on Safari, 1st gen to delete apps/sites just visited, you could double tap home key and apps would appear on bottom and one could delete from there. How does it work on ipadair?

This may be a dumb question, but nonetheless, here goes:
I just moved from 1st gen ipad to new ipad-air. Great and happy! But, one thing I can't figure out how to do is to delete the pages/sites/apps that I have just used? For example, on the 1st gen. you could double-tap home button and past actions would come up on bottom of screen. I could then delete them one by one, to keep things cleaned up. Am I missing something here? Does it keep a log irregardless? Not the same as deleting history - at least didnt' work for me.

Close apps and not delete apps.
    1. Double tap the home button to bring up the multi-tasking view
    2. Swipe the app's windows upwards to close
    3. The app will fly off the screen

  • 6th gen nano with nike + playlists don't shuffle

I switched from 1st gen nano to the 6th gen nano last week and one thing that I noticed is my playlists when hooked up to nike + sensor don't shuffle. I hear the same songs in order every run! It's frustrating because the 1st gen nano if shuffle is turned on for songs will shuffle your playlist songs in nike + mode the 6th gen doesn't. I shook the heck out of it and still it's the same song. Turned off shake when shuffle to see if their's a shuffle choice nope. Anyone else find this frustrating?
I have a call in to tech support this morning going to ask them this question seems I missing something or the 6th is missing this option.

I have the very same problem! And the calibration is a pain but it's getting better. "Default calibration... is accurate for many users" pshh...
You should let me know if you find out a way to get past this!

  • Settings problem of range of 2nd gen. not as good as 1st gen.?

My original Aiport Express stopped working this week, just went dead, replaced it with a new 2nd gen. one ....
Wheras the original extended the signal through the house particularly to the living room, with this one, there is no signal at all.
It's joining the network created by an Original Airport Extreme, working off Snow Leopard and the latest Airport Utility ..
Set-up was a breeze, but when the Airport Express was then plugged in downstairs to where the original one always was, no signal at all .. never changed any settings, actually re-cycled the power on the modem and the Airport Extreme as advised when adding to a network
Even though on set-up and it asked me if I wanted to extend the network when I have looked 'inside' the settings with Airport Utility 'Manual Setup) under Summary / Base Station / Wireless, WIRELESS it says Wireless Mode:  join a Wireless Network even though there is an option to 'Extend the Wirelss  network ....
So, is the Airport Express merely joining the wireless network, or is it extending it, or has this option nothing to do with the original automatic set-up ....
Also, is there a reason the signal from the Airport Extreme won't be reaching as far as the original Airport Express if the previous settings are correct ..
Thanks for any help you can offer ..

Your older Express was configured to provide more wireless coverage using what is known as WDS settings, which the AirPort Extreme was also using.
You might be able to configure the new Express using WDS settings.
Hold down the option key on your Mac while you click on the Wireless Mode selection box to see if the WDS settings might appear.  This is not easy to set up, but it sounds like you may have done this before.
The downside to WDS is that it only operates in older "g" wireless modes, so you lose any advantage of having a much faster "n" AirPort Express.
If WDS will not work, a new AirPort Extreme would provide dual band operation and the Express would extend both bands....a very nice performance upgrade.

  • 6th gen nano: Can't select/checkmark songs to delete or drag

I'm on a 6th-gen. iPod nano. It's charging right now. I'd like to delete a particular playlist, move some songs to another playlist, that sort of thing. Normal stuff. Since this recent update, I apparently no longer have any control over my nano. Several playlists contain no checkmarked songs at all and I can't checkmark them. Can't uncheck other songs either. I can select a playlist, but not delete it or the one song in it. Can't move songs to another playlist. Basically can't touch anything displayed in my iPod. Last, what happened to that screen where I could control syncing and stuff?

Are you trying to do this from Playlist listed under your iPod? Or are you trying to do this from PLAYLISTS under the smart playlists?
IF the songs are grayed out in Playlist under your iPod's name then that is why, you can't add songs to the playlist from there.
You would have to add a song to your Playlist under PLAYLISTS, then resync the playlist to your iPod. This will add the new songs that you've added.
IF the songs are grayed out in Playlist under the PLAYLISTS section, then unfortunately I'm uncertain.

  • 6th gen nano, can't edit playlists

I can successfully synch both this nano and my iPhone 4.  On the phone, I can add songs to playlists and remove them.  Can't now on the nano.  I have nearly 6GB of room free, I've restored to the factory settings and resynched, I've double-checked that the device is registered in iTunes (it was).  I am unable to add songs to playlists or remove them.  When I select a playlist, all the songs are grayed out.  Right-clicking on a song in a playlist allows me to Like, Post, Show Artist Profile (Ping menu); Get Info or Show in Playlist.
    Any thoughts here?

  • 2nd gen nano not recognized by MBA / Lion 10.7.4 / iTunes 10.6.3

I have this 2nd gen nano (and a bunch of other ones) set to manage music manually. This particular device has worked fine while connected to MBP mid 2010 running SL and most recent iTunes.
But, this 2nd gen nano does not show up on the MacBook Air, mid-2011, running Lion 10.7.4, iTunes 10.6.3.
I have reset the nano. It plays fine, responds to setting changes properly and it does charge while plugged into either USB port of the MBA.  The computer is plugged into wall juice, and the other USB port is not in use while I try to get the nano recognized.
Disk utility does not see it either.
This MBA is not the computer I usually sync this 2nd gen nano to since that machine (the MBP mid 2010) is out for repair.
i expected iTunes on this MBA  to just mount the thing (since the iPod has the manual preference set, and is a Mac-formatted nano) and that it would then let me delete a few picks and drag a few newer tunes onto it.
The MBA, the nano and my out-for-repair MBP all have the same Apple ID associated with purchased music on the devices.
I rarely reload this nano and haven't actually changed its music since I put the MBP to Lion, so I am not sure if it's Lion, iTunes or the MBA that is the issue with this 2nd gen nano.
After the 2nd nano would not mount, I tried two other iPods, one is a 3rd gen nano and the other is a Classic.   Both of them connected fine and let me drag stuff onto them.
So it seems that either Lion 10.7.4 or iTunes 10.6.3 does not feel like recognizing the 2nd gen nano.  Hope this can be fixed.  That model nano is practically indestructible and there are still lots of them out there!

    Update on the above:
I did some more research on this using assorted of my 2nd gen nanos and a couple 1st gen ones as well.
It's only the 2GB 2nd gen nanos  MA477LL part number, that do not work with Lion / 10.7.4 / iTunes 10.6.3.
2nd gen MA477LL  does not work, it's a 2GB model. I have two of these.  Neither works.
    2nd gen MA428LL  works  it is a 4GB model
    2nd gen MA426LL  works  it is a 4GB model
    1st gen MA352LL  works - it's a 1st gen nano refurb (1GB)
1st gen MA350LL  (1GB) - this is another 1st gen nano refurb, but one that's formatted for Windows (and had nothing on it when I connected it).  For some reason it mounted fine in Mac iTunes environment and even let me drag an AAC track onto it.  I was dumbfounded.   On the desktop, its sys info showed info like any FAT32 flashdrive but it did have an iPod nano icon on it.   I ejected it from iTunes and plugged in a pair of earbuds and hit play on the track. It plays fine.   Go figure!  I rechecked the settings in the device.  It does say Windows for the format. I feel like I'm in the Bermuda triangle.  I might have to reformat it next time a Windows iTunes setup sees that nano though.
So bottom line here with the second gen nanos:    it's the 2GB model, the 2nd gen nanos with model MA477LL that do not work in Lion and iTunes 10.6.3 for whatever reason.   Both of my devices with that model number do work fine on an older MBA running Snow Leopard and iTunes 10.4.

  • Mini 1st Gen Harddrive in 2nd Gen mini

Hey there.. i have two ipod minis, one is a 1st gen and the other is a 2nd gen.
The 2nd gen's hard drive is giving me a wierd repetitive whirling sound and is displaying the sad ipod. However my first gen mini's harddrive is working fine.
So i carefully transferred the 1st gen's hd to the 2nd gen but then it didnt even notice it... it did the apple bootup then just reset without reading the hd. So then i put the hd back into the 1st gen and it worked fine :S.
The reason im wanting to use the 2nd gen mini is because the 1st gen's clickwheel "Play/Pause" button doesnt work.
Any suggestions? Should the 1st Gen Mini's hard drive work in the 2nd Gen Mini?

Are they the same capacity? I can look into it if you want.
