Bought a macbook aluminum
I've got a couple questions regarding this new macbook:
So I bought it used off of someone from craigslist. It's in pretty good shape, but missing a handful of screws (all the screws on the inside, once the bottom plate is taken off, 4 in total... and 1 of the screws on the bottom, outside). I went to an apple store, and they told me they didn't have any spare screws... where do you get them?
Also, when I click the apple icon in the top left corner, and go to 'about this mac', and it says I've got a 2.26ghz processor... I thought these only came in 2.0 and 2.4?
Just took a look. It says "macbook 5,1". Oddly enough, I did a lookup on the serial number on the apple website; no such serial found.
Bizarre....
Any thoughts? I'm not too upset about it. It works great; no issues thus far.
Here's a copy/paste:

Macbook Aluminum to VGA Output
I have a Macbook Aluminum and I am trying to output that to my TV. I have bought the miniPort to VGA adapter and hooked it up to my LCD TV with a VGA input. When this happens, I am only able to see my desktop background and nothing else. It will not show me my HD or Safari windows or mouse cursor or anything else. Anyone have any thoughts on why this is happening??
Then it's a mini-->DVI and then DVI--HDMI/DVI-->DVI or
mini-->VGA and then VGA-->VGA
There are also a composite and s-Video, but that's not HD.
You can get the mini cables at apple.com, an apple store and I believe Best Buy. Note that there have been some problems reported in buying mini-->DVI cables that are non Apple.
Also, whatever you get, you will need a separate cable from your headset jack-->L/R RCA plugs for the sound with all options. -
I need to how can I have Mac OS Lion, as I bought my Macbook Pro in beginning of June 2011 from Apple Store in US.
The serial number of my product is C0*******H2M. Please confirm me that I can have it for free, and how could I install it. Many Thanks.
<Edited by Host>Sorry, but that opportunity has long passed. Your options now are:
Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
Lion System Requirements
1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
or Xeon processor
2. 2GB of memory
3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
4. 7GB of available space
5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
7. Xserve (Early 2009)
Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps - App compatibility and feature support for OS X & iOS.
Am I eligible for the free upgrade?
See Apple - Free OS X Mountain Lion upgrade Program.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Apple - Upgrade your Mac to OS X Mountain Lion. -
Hello...
I recently bought a macbook pro 15 and i noticed that it stays hot while i am using it. Is it normal ? Is there a problem if i play minecraft on it ? How can i decrease the temperature ? Thanks for everybody !MBP is designed to sit on hard/flat surface to maximize airflow arond the unit. Also the aluminum body is part of the heat dissipation.
Use this to monitor temperatures: http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/20364/istat-pro
Also know that the unit can run very hot (to human touch) under load, and will power down before it burns up.
Holding it on your lap (if you are) will make the still-acceptable running temps seem high. -
A few days ago i bought the macbook pro in a Providence. In late Summer i will come back to my Country - Ukraine. I would like to know about a tax for my
laptop. Can i return tax? Through the TAX FREE or return in airport? What should i do?You need to talk with the tax authorities in the countries to which you traveled and that of your home country. We are all end-users liek you and not Apple agents.

i bought and downloaded iWork when i bought my macbook pro and i used to save my documents on words. then a few weeks ago, i downloaded a free trial of microsoft office but unregistered and deleted it a week after. now i can't save my documents on word. It used to ask me if I want to save my documents on word, now it doesn't. And the W icon keeps on appearing on my dock. Can I return my computer to an earlier date? Please help me. Thanks
No, I don't have a back-up of TIme Machine... to tell you the truth, I have this computer for a few years now and I still don't know how to work all of the apps that are here. Anything else I can do?

I just bought my macbook pro and it's charged up to 100% and is still plugged in but now shows the battery at 98%. How is this possible when it's plugged in to the charger and the green light is on?
The system regularly lets the battery drop to about 95% when on the charger, then recharges to 100%. This lets the batery exercise "just a little" all of the time and saves the recharge curcuits from overuse.
Regualr occurence for me.
Also ... you need to let your battery work at least once per month. Let it run down to 40%, but not less if you can at all avoid it. Running thr battery fully dead will shorten the battery life significantly. -
I bought new Macbook Pro 13" around two months before .My Apple ID is working on all other things except app store . It is buffering for a lot of time and lastly coming on screen " can not connect to app store " Please help me

i just bought a macbook air. ive been transfering all my songs from my external harddrive that i had on my previous laptop for itunes. now that i got them transfered. my itunes wont open. it says "the itunes library file cannot be found or created. the default location for this file is in the itunes folder in the music folder." what do i do!?!
How did you move the music? You have to do it in a specific way:
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
do not confuse moving your whole folder and library with moving just media files as in
iTunes for Mac: Moving your iTunes Media folder - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1449
Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music: Copy the whole iTunes folder and all its subfolders and files intact to the other drive. Start iTunes with the option key held down and guide it to the new location of the library. -
Something has really been bugging me. Two days ago i bought a Macbook Pro. I like to facetime my family since they live abroad. Well when a family memeber rang my facetime, i realised that only my iphone rang and not my macbook, i waited for a while to see if it just needed time to introduce the call, however this didnt work out. I was wondering if anybody can help me sort this problem...

I just bought a macbook pro and want to use my own iCloud account for my iPhone. How do I sign off of the current account on my iPhone and sign in with my own iCloud account i set up my mac?
On your phone, Go to "Settings", "iCloud", scroll to the bottom and "sign out." Assuming you have the the account password/security info of the current account, it will delete everything iCloud related upon your approval (don't worry, everything will remain in the cloud.) Once signed out, in the same settings location (under "Settings", "iCloud") sign in using your Apple ID and Password.
Hope this helps. -
I bought a Macbook pro with Mountain Lion. Can I install Mountain Lion on my other mac for free? How do I do that? Thanks!
On the bright side, it's only $20.
And I would certainly like to have the ownership (and even a copy of the installer on my archive drive), "just in case."
Here are some questions -- which I cannot test because it's not my situation:
Has anyone acquired a pre-owned Mac with Mountain Lion installed but which shipped with an earlier OS version? For those in that circumstance:
Have you been able to apply Mountain Lion update(s)?
How about reinstall ML with Recovery HD?
After either updating or reinstalling, does ML appear in Purchases in App Store?
Just curious. -
i recently bought a macbook pro and i made a new apple id. my last macbook had a different id as well and i was wondering if there's a way of transferring all my music from the other laptop to the new one without having to use my old apple id? if it makes any type of difference i have an iphone 5 so i tried transfering the music but it only transfered certain things and not my entire album.
Making a new Apple ID was the worst thing you could of done. This is very bad to do. Not sure why people do that. Your Apple ID is Your Apple ID. You only need one and it is best to only have one Apple ID for all apple devices.
Sorry I don't have any suggestions for you. -
I am a student and I bought my macbook pro at a best buy, am I still eligible for the $100 on free apps? If so, how would i get access to it?
