Bought a new Ipod and wanted to upgrad the softwares too - what a mess!
Please advise to install QuickTime!!!
Anything seems to help to my problem with the QuickTime installation error (code 3 when installed with iTunes and code 1402 and 1603 when updated separately), even I have tried all the tricks and steps found on this forum to the same error codes.
So, my error messages 1402 relates to the hkeylocalmachines/software/classes/QuickTime.gt/DefaultIcon - I have all the possible rights to my pc, but still anything can't be done with this in Regedit. I can't open the Quictime.gt at all nor check rights,as it's not opening.
When I cleaned my pc, with the guidance found here, of all the files left after removing the softwares I noticed that in Regedit there is lot of files directly under Classes named with QuickTime* - should those removed as well?
Thanks in advance! Brgs, JaanaLiisa
ps. eveything worked ok with the old iTunes and QuickTime, so this upgrade was very bad thing to do
When QT7 first came out, I ran into the same problem you are having. What I did was remove QT using the add/remove control panel, then did a search for all files all folders that were left behind and deleted them as well.
Next I went into the registry. HKEYLOCALMACHINE+Software and deleted Apple Computer,Inc. I then went to the Edit menu of the registry, selected Find and type in QuickTime. To locate registry entree's left behind.
After selecting Find from the Edit menu of the registry and type in QuickTime, you then hit the enter key on the keyboard. When a QT entree appears you delete it. You then hit the F3 key on the keyboard, which locates the next key. You keep repeting this process untill you have deleted all QT. There are many.
Once I had everything related to QT completely removed from the computer, I then ran.

The registry is risky to go into if a mistake is made it could involve re-installing the OS, so you may want to back it up, if you can count on that. Some people have used this link and claimed good results.

I just bought a new ipod and when I plugged it in to register it, the name of my son's ipod appeared. How do I change the registration so that I can make it my own?
It sounds like yu either restored it from a backup of your son's iPod or you set it up via iTunes with iTunes signed into his account.
I would go to Settings>General>Reset>Ease all content and settings and then set it up with your account. If you do it via iTunes make sure that iTunes is signed into your account. -
I bought an iPad 2 in May without 3G and recently decided I wanted that feature so bought a new one with 3G. I want to give the original to someone else, but need to know how to transfer my data and apps to the new one and "wipe" the other so it doesn't include any personalized information. How do i do that?
The sync should backup the iPad as Fred said but take no chances.
Connect your iPad and let it sync. Then right click on the iPad name on the left side of iTunes under devices and select Transfer Purchases. After that completes, right click on the iPad name again and select Backup. After that completes sync one last time and disconnect the iPad.
When the new iPad arrives, before you connect the iPad - launch iTunes and turn off auto sync. From the menu at the top go to File>Preferences>Devices> and check "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically. Quit iTunes.
Now connect the iPad and launch iTunes and activate the device. Then after setting up the iPad - right click on the iPad name on the left side - select Restore - restore from Backup -the backup of your old iPad. When it finishes - go into each tab in iTunes and make sure that you have everything that you want to put on the iPad selected to sync - by putting a checkmark in all of the headings - Sync Apps, Sync Music, Sync Photos, etc. Then select all of the content that you want in each of those tabs and then sync by selecting Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes.
If you have the opportunity to restore from the backup when going through the activation process- restore then and there. I can't remember if iTunes will ask if you want to restore from the backup but if so - go ahead and do it. -

Bought a new imac and want to load the Leopard software on my old imac
every time I load the disc and it goes into installation mode, it says Leopard can't be installed on this computer.
I'm using the G-5 imac without the built in camera. I have 10.4.11 currently installed on this machine.
Is there something I need to do before trying to install 10.5?
Thanks in advancedIt sounds like you are using the Drop-In DVD that came with Macs that were sold after Leopard came out but already had Tiger installed.
Those DVD's only work on a very narrow range of late model (fall 2007 - spring 2008 ?) Intel Macs, and I don't think they will work at all on any G5.
You will need to buy the retail Leopard DVD. -
I have an ipod nano synced to an old laptop. Recently upgraded to a new laptop and want to sync the ipod nano to the new laptop. How do I change the sync to the new laptop?
If you have access to your old laptop (and it's still working), ideally, you should transfer your complete iTunes library from your old PC to your new PC. If you can and want to do it that way, please post back.
Otherwise, iTunes syncing is generally in one direction, from iTunes library to iPod. You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store). However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer. If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links. (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
Once the song files are on your computer's drive, you can add them to your new iTunes library. -

Under Snow Leopard I used a WD My World NAS to back up my Mac Pro (Mid 2010). When I upgraded to Lion I am unable to access the backup because the NAS does not yet support AFP. I have now bought a Time Capsule and want to transfer the old backup onto it.
How can I recover the NAS back up to put on my new Time Machine.
Talking to Apple Support Adviser was a waste of time on case number 239647273
Any thoughts or pointers?Keep the old OS around and just kick the tires and test new OS. Apple has a history and habit of breaking support in things like this.
You can use TimeMachine as one level of backup, and even there there were changes with Lion, I would always recommend foremost backup clones of every volume. And clone (SuperDuper etc) can be stored on something like HP NAS Media Server which also was supporting TimeMachine, iTunes - until Apple made that harder and more their own proprietary format.

Cloning as a Backup Strategy
Rather than "upgrade" I would clone the system, and do a clean install, then allow Setup Assistant to import your files.

Forgive such a basic question, it's easier than looking it up. I have my iTunes music on macbook pro and have only synced it to one iPod. I want to buy a new iPod and want to know will I be able to sync my music from computer to new iPod at no charge?
will I be able to sync my music from computer to new iPod at no charge?
Yes, you will. -
Bought a new macbook and want to manually manage music onto my iphone 4s (as it is already full of music from old windows laptop) but when i click 'manually manage' and then 'apply' i get the message saying it will erase everything already on there. Need help please!
Before you sync your iPhone make sure that all the music that was synced to your phonereviously has been copied to your iTunes on the new MacBook Pro. Then when you connect your phone you will be able to either sync all music or select only those playlists that you want on the phone.

I just bought a new iPod and I have it set up the same as my old iPod but I can't get notifications on the lock screen like I did on my old iPod. What can I do to fix this?
Hi.
What is the exact notification you are waiting? This could be possible that the device has already been opened once. Don't you think? -

i just got my ipod from my dad and he has all of his songs on there from his mac, and so now he gave the ipod to me and i want to put all of the songs on MY computer onto my new ipod and take all of the songs of that my dad originally had.
When you connect the iPod to your computer and go to the Music tab to select which music you want to sync, iTunes will pop up a dialogue box that if you sync your music it will replace the music that is already on the iPod.
Since that sounds like what you want to do, just click ok and then sync. -
