Bought a new mac last weekend do I have to pay for Mountain Lion

I bought a MacBook Air on Saturday but it didn't have Mountain Lion installed. Do I have to pay for an upgrade?

No, go to http://www.apple.com/osx and then Upgrade and go to the up-to-date program and register your purchase.  You will receive an email with a redemption code to download ML for free.

  • Do I have to pay for Mountain Lion, just bought Lion 2 days ago?

On July 1 I purchased Lion and haven't even gotten it installed yet and just read that Mountain Lion will be released in July. Will Apple offer a free update like they do for people who buy a Mac with Lion after June 11, 2012?
This is what the website says about purchasing a Mac with Lion
The OS X Mountain Lion Up-to-Date upgrade will be available at no additional charge from the Mac App Store to all customers who purchase a qualifying new Mac system from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller on or after June 11, 2012.
Customers must request their Up-to-Date upgrade within 30 days of purchasing their Mac computer. Customers who purchase a qualifying Mac between June 11, 2012 and the date when Mountain Lion is available in the Mac App Store will have 30 days from the OS X Mountain Lion release date to make a request.
When Mountain Lion becomes available in July, come back to this page for details on how to request your copy of Mountain Lion.

I only bought Lion because my Address Book wouldn't sync after the end of MobileMe Saturday night.
Really Apple sent out notices about this happening for months. And has had Mountain Lion in the works for at least 4 months with notices all over the net that it will be released sometime this summer.
Simple answer is NO you will not be offered a free upgrade.
If you used your CC to purchase it call Apple and ask to return it or contact your CC company and dispute the charge.

  • Bought a new iPod Touch TODAY, Do I have to Pay for the upgrade?

So, the the title says it all. Today I bought an iPod touch. Do this entitle me to a free Firmware 2? (because I bought it the next day the Firmware was announced and it's suppossed to come free in new iPod touchs)

    Ramzy76 wrote:
A* was gracious to give Touch owners the option to buy firmware update
Unfortunately, being gracious has nothing to do with it. A* is a business. And since the iPhone and iPod Touch share a lot of the same guts, making the 2.0 firmware available for purchase was a no-brainer.
It's also important to recognize that Sarbanes-Oxley and/or US accounting standards do not "force" A* to charge for Touch updates. The rationale behind the fees boils down to users' willingness to pay and A*'s desire to spread iPhone dev costs across multiple product lines.

  • New Mac Mini - How do i reinstall my copy of Mountain LIon from App Store?

    Hi All:
I just bought a new Mac Mini running Mountain Lion. I want to clone an older system drive that had been running Snow Leopard onto my new Mini and then upgrade to Mountain Lion (I tried Migration Assistant first, but it didn't work correctly and I don't want to mess with it again).
My question: once I have a working Snow Leopard install on my Mini, is it possible to upgrade back to the Mountain Lion OS it came with without paying for a new copy? How do I do that?
    Thanks!

It isn't just the hard drive - there is firmware built in that will prevent you from booting wih Snow Leopard. If you do a search here, you'll find many threads trying to install an earlier OS than what the machine came with all with the same answer (unless the Mac was built right around the time of a new OS being introduced, then it is possible to be booted from both OS's). In this case, you'd be trying to go backwards by 2 versions. Also see here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2186?viewlocale=en_US
And yes, if you use internet recovery and first erase the drive (available in Disk Utility within the recovery partition) and then reinstall the OS, it'll reinstall the OS on a blank drive and you can start over. If the machine is new, then Command + R during restart should automatically boot into internet recovery (connecting you to Apple's servers by showing a spinning globe while connecting); if the machine is a bit older, then Command + Option + R will boot into internet recovery.

  • Migration From OS X Mavericks to New Mac Air that is set with 10.8.4 Mountain Lion. It is not working

Bought a new Mac Air this week. Tried to Migrate my files, etc from my old Mac Air running OS X 10.9 Mavericks. Discovered after repated attempts, that the new Mac Air has 10.8.4 Mountain Lion. Could this be why it will not work?

I would imagine so. I doubt the Migration Assistant is designed to go backwards.

Can I change the name of my Apple ID?
Yes. For example, if you get a new email address, you can change your Apple ID from your old address to your new address. For more information, follow the steps in this article.
Note: @mac.com and @me.com Apple IDs cannot be renamed.
I have purchased music, apps, or books with multiple Apple IDs. How can I get all of this content onto my iOS device?

First, you need to copy all of your purchased content so it is on the same Mac or PC with iTunes. This computer should be the one you sync your device with. For more information on how to move your content, see these articles:
Mac:  iTunes for Mac: How to copy purchases between computers
PC:  iTunes for Windows: How to copy purchases between computers
Next, authorize your computer to play content with each Apple ID in iTunes. Once your computer is authorized for all your content, it can be synced to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!

  • When I buy a new MacBook in December, will it have osx mavericks or mountain lion?

If it has mountain lion do I have to buy it from App Store instead?

It depends on when the MacBook is manufactured. If the MacBook is manufactured before the OS X Mavericks release, it comes with OS X Mountain Lion, and if it's manufactured after the release, it comes with OS X Mavericks. Note that if you buy the Mac at an Apple Store or Apple Online Store, it will always come with OS X Mavericks if you buy it the Mavericks release date or after, as Apple upgrades all Macs. This doesn't apply to Macs sold in other shops.
If your Mac doesn't come with OS X Mavericks, it's possible that Apple launches an upgrade program that allows you to upgrade to OS X Mavericks free of charge, as Apple did with OS X Mountain Lion and Lion, but it hasn't been announced for Mavericks. If not, you will have to pay for OS X Mavericks in the Mac App Store

    hello,
it has almost been 6 yrs since i 'converted' to mac, leaving the horrible micro$oft world...
but now i get the impression that Apple is a lot more greedy now...
i want to buy an iPod Touch too, but i find this 'not logical' to sell the 2.0 update....
in a way, Apple is saying: "don't be the first ones to buy our things (be it iPod or iPhone) cuz u'll end up paying more than the ones who 'll buy later on at a better price"
this is something i 've learned through these 6 yrs of my Mac-life...
Apple should encourage people to be the first ones to buy their products by 'not' practicing these marketing/pricing practices....
ps: im though happy to still be a proud mac user, and that the OS X is 'cheaper' than Window$...

  • I bought an iMac 2 months ago... do I need to pay for Mountain Lion?

My iMac is barely out of the box (it actually sat in storage for a month before I set it up) and now I find that the OS is already out of date. Does Apple have a deal on Mountain Lion for recent purchases? Like... for free?

If you purchased your iMac on or after 7/11 6/11 you are entitled to a free copy, if not, it's $19.99

  • If I bought an app on my phone do I have to pay for it again for my Macbook?

It keeps telling me that I need to buy the app again but I already have it on my iphone and ipad.

Yes they aren't the same OS or application - iPhone and iPad are the same but the one for MBP is different.

  • If i get the mbp now do i have to pay for the new os lion

if i get the mbp before the new os comes out, will i have to pay for it later???

Yes, but remember, OS X Lion is new, it's going to have bugs, problems, drivers won't work and all kinds of other **** because Apple has integrated the MacAppStore deeply into the OS.
Best to wait 6-8 months until the dust settles.
Snow Leopard is stable and works, everything works reliably.
Lion will be $30 or so, chump change for 8-9 months of less headaches.
But you better hurry and get a Mac fast, or else it comes with Lion by default.
