Bought a new printer. Inserted my cd and nothing happens?

I just bought a new printer. When I insert the CD that came with the printer into my Mac, nothing happens. Still not too familiar with my Mac, but there has to be a way to manually open and start the install process.

Normally, there is no need to use an installation disc, if the printer's driver is available online.
Connect the printer to USB and turn it ON. Go to System Preferences Print & Scan pane. There is a sidebar where your current printers are listed. Click the plus sign at the bottom of the sidebar. The Add Printer window opens. If your printer is recognized, it should be listed in that window. Select it. If the default settings below are OK, click Add.
If the printer's driver is not on your Mac (and it should not be if this is the first time adding), it gets downloaded and installed. Your printer should appear in the sidebar of the Print & Scan pane.
If you have more than one printer (including share printers on the local network), they are all available from the print dialog in apps. You can set one printer as the default in the Print & Scan pane.

When you insert a CD/DVD in the optical drive, does an icon appear on the desktop? If not open Finder Preferences and check the appropriate box(s).

It's distributed as a disk image file. Double-click the file. A disk image will mount. Drag the application in that image to the Applications folder. Eject the image by dragging its icon on the Desktop to the Trash. You can then delete the disk image file.

When I try to open Twitter on a new tab, the tab closes and nothing happens. It works for IE and every other website.

It doesn't even open, and the new tab just closes. I don't know what happened, it was working fine just a little bit ago.

Try the following:
Create a Restore Point in case u need to back out of these changes.
Close and reopen Internet Explorer .
Click the Tools button, and then click Internet options.
Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset.
In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, Check the "Delete Personal Setting" box and click Reset.
When IE finishes applying default settings, click Close, and then click OK.
Restart your PC for these changes to take effect.
If the above doesn't fix the problem it could be corrupt data in your login profile. To check this try creating a new login id and running ie in the new login.

If you bought the computer at an Apple Store return it. Let them know you aren't happy about your start in the Mac world. If you bought the computer online and have an Apple Store nearby you can take it there even though you didn't buy it there. Note: if going to an Apple store go online and make an appt with the Genius. Stores tend to be busy so this will give you a time to know you can walk in and pretty quickly get attention. Just walking in with a dead computer you may have to wait a while.
No Apple store nearby? No problem, call AppleCare and they'll take care of you. Ask for expedited return & shipment and again, let the technician know you are new to the Apple world and not happy. The last time I brought home a dead computer I not only got a replacement right away but I got an Apple gift card for my inconvenience.

Thank you for your suggestions. I downloaded a more recent version of Twain, but this didn't help. I also tried closing and opening Photo Shop and restarting my computer without success. Reinstalling Photo Shop sounds like a very promising solution, but I'm not sure I will do it. In the meantime I can scan items using a printer program. These scans open in Photo Shop. It is an extra step.

Everytime I try to send a message to a person that does not have an Apple product ( Iphone or Ipad ) it comes up saying contact is not registered for iMessage and wont send it. I can only send them a message from my iPhone 4 instead. Do I have to install a new App from the App store to send these non iMessage cell users a message?
