Bought a Powerbook G4 1.25ghz 15" computer off eBay

Hello,
I have a quick question about this specific model. As far as I am aware, most, if not all (correct me if im wrong) Powerbooks G4 have the AC Adapter on the left side and the power button on the right side, but I bought a 1.25ghz version that had the power button on the left side and the AC Adapter on right side.. this seemed odd to me, so i asked the seller, he told me that model had that set up.. I just wanted to make sure with the Apple community if that was indeed correct. Thanks!

My A/C adapter plugs into the left side and my power on button is on the top right of the keyboard surface.

Have purchased a IPad 3 64g cellular from EBay and cannot activate it . It keeps saying the activation server is unavailable . The Ipad itself appears to be brand new could it be security locked if possibly stolen . The seller has a 100 percent record of satisfied customers ?

Contact the seller and either get it working or demand a refund.
As an aside, I would NEVER buy computing hardware on eBay (or other sites like that).

  • Kernel panic since i bought  my powerbook G4 (end 2005)

    Hello,
I am desperate : i have had kernel panics since i bought my powerbook G4. I describe the kernel panic as a grey square that appears in the middle of the screen telling me to force my mac to quit in many languages. I have tried the apple care online call, then i have erased everything from my powerbook and reinstalled the system as applecare advised me to do. It continued. Then i went to ITechnique in Montreal to get some experts to analyse it, they didnt see nothing. Then i started to have these strange blackout screens, and these noises that was telling me that my mac is trying to reboot with no sucess. Everytime these black screens happens i have to force my mac to quit and it happens more and more. Then i gave it back to ITechnique, still they didnt see nothing. Then i want to Carrefour Laval, they took my powerbook for 1 week time to check it ; they didnt see nothing. So i proposed them to photograph and to film all my problems, after they had changed my macs memory. One week later i had 6 photos of kernel panics that i took in 2 weeks time + 4 to 5 black out screens filmed. I went back to Carrefour Laval to the genius bar and now they believed that there are problems on my mac and they want to replace hardware and many other things on my machine?!!!! What are the solutions? My applecare finishes july 2008, i am a graphic designer, i cant sell this useless machine like this, but i need to buy a new one. Do you think applecare could replace my machine? Are they other persons who has had the same problems with a Powerbook G4 bought in october 2005? Are they persons who has had their computer replaced by the applecare? Thank you very much!

    designerj:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You should not be having the issues you are having, and, in any case, if you have Apple Care the issue should have been resolved. I believe that you have done all that you could be reasonably expected to do.
I suggest that you call Apple Customer Relations and tell them exactly what your have detailed here. Offer to send documentation of your issue. And tell them that since your issue continues and you need your computer for your work, that you would like to have them resolve the issue by their replacing the computer with a new one. Be very polite. If you run into an agent who is unresponsive or rude (and I have heard reports of such), thank them politely, hang up, and call back later and hope to get someone else. If all esle fails, send a letter to Apple detailing both your technical issues as well as the difficulties you have experienced getting help.
    Good luck.

Be careful of the Verbatim 16 X DVD-R. I just made 14 Coasters before I got the correct answer from Pioneer who supplied the DVD 104 Super Drive on my Mac even though I installed an A227 firmware update.
They will not burn reliably on my g-4 mac when running Mac OS 10.4.5. I can not burn these DVDs using Toast 7.02.
I have no problem with HP 8X DVD-RW or DVD-R though.
I checked with Pioneer on this and they were helpful explaining the inability of that drive to handle that disk with the present firmware version.

  • I have to move desks a lot at work. Today I bought $30 worth of music on one computer, but now I'm at another desk and another computer and cannot find my music! Every time I change computers I make sure to log out and log back in. So where is my music?

I have to move desks and computers a lot at work. Today I bought $30 worth of music on one computer - but now I am sitting at a new desk and computer and can't find my music. Don't tell me to make sure I log on and off....i do! So where is my music?

The music you purchased is probably in our profile directory on the computer where you purchased it.  Unless your IT department has the computers setup to use "roaming profiles" your "My Music" folder will be stored locally on each computer.  I don't know of too many companies that use "roaming profiles" as they tend to cause about as many problems as they were designed to "fix".  If you are going to be moving to many different computers, I suggest that you consider moving your iTunes Library to an external drive that you move with you.  This way your purchased content is stored on your external drive and not on the local drive of the PC you are using at the time of the purchase.

i bought itunes match  but after change my computer ( account is the same)..why i need to buy itunes match again?

When you are done with this issue, consider the computer back at the office may still
have access to your iTunes account, and it should be de-auhorized. You can do that
remotely, but be sure you carefully do not mess up your other computer iTunes libraries.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Just bought a Powerbook G4

Is there an address where I can email a question for support? The Apple Store told me their support was great but I haven't been able to locate a support desk on this site.
Here is the question I have. When I bought the powerbook last Tuesday the sales person assured me it had ilife 06 on it. It doesn't and it wasn't in my bag of software when I left. Does it come with it or do I have to buy it?

Welcome to the Apple discussion forums.
According the Apple web site, under hardware, PowerPC G4 PB, it says iLife 05 comes with the currently shipping product. So, sounds like you got what Apple is shipping, and the sales person was wrong. However, if you want iLife 06, and the sales person told you it was included, you might go back to the store and insist on it....maybe you'll get it. Otherwise it's $79, or less with an educational discount.

  • HT2045 I bought a song, which played on my computer. When I tranfered it to my IPod,only the first 30 seconds of the song plays. Help please!

Please help me.  I bought a song which played on my computer, but when I tranfered it to my IPod, only the first 30 seconds of it will play. Help please. Is there a way I can contact Apple to complain, because I'm not paying $1.29 for the first 30 seconds of a song. Or is there anyway to fix it? (note: i have already synced my Ipod and it has the latest version of ITunes)

Im having a similar promblem! Only its doesnt work on my Itunes library and the song ends at 49 seconds. Have you fixed your problem yet?
p.s. my discussion is on the following page but no one has responded yet as I only just posted it.

Did you put all of your music on the new comptuer?  Your music will only be where you put it.  Copy everything from your old comuter, or your backup copy of your od computer, to your new one.

I bought ipod 5th generation off ebay, computer doesn't recognise it, even in disc mode.  any suggestions?

Can I assume you are using iTunes 10?
But most probably, your iPod hardisk is the problem and your Windows 7 is taking a long time to read the disk filesystem.
Do a disk diagnostic first as posted by tt2, don't worry about the Mac user, Disk diagnostic refer to iPod and not the OS.

This wont fix your problem, but will help in troubleshooting route, as there are dozens of reasons for the failure.
Post the results here and hopefully it is not the harddisk.
    Good Luck!

  • All this talk about HEAT, my PowerBook G4 1.25GHZ gets hot!

I have ordered a new MBP 2.16GHZ 1GB 120HD but since I heard all the talk about heat I started monitoring my Powerbook G4 1.25GHZ and you know what, it gets hot!
I downloaded a widget from the Apple site and after about 4-5 hours of just regular web surfing and iTunes I had a CPU bottomside temp of 136F! It was hot between the F keys and the screen almost too hot to touch. I have owned this machine for three years and have never noticed it!
I am somewhat relieved as I think that I have been worried about something that has always been there and never affected my Mac experience before. Obviously this new Mac has a much faster CPU inside so I expect it will get at least as hot. I am not saying that the heat is normal it's just nothing new.
Anyone else noticed this since they started reading about it?

I really do wonder about these 2.16 models. I had a 2.16 on loan while my 2 GHz version was being repaired and it ran warm, but nowhere near the temperatures of the 2 GHz.
Anyway, I got the 2 GHz back and two weeks later the battery started to swell. Now they are upgrading me to the flagship model for free; all heat related issues BTW.
I understand the loyalty and need to defend Apple, but when you run a business you tend to feel a little differently I guess. Glad to hear your not experiancing problems.

  • Just bought a refurb PB G4 via power seller on ebay. Froze on 1st power up. Report says unresolved kernel. Is this terminal or fixable. Should I ask for money back whilst under warranty? I am not techie so worried and not sure what to do?  OSX 10.5.8

    Hi
Just over a week ago I bought a refurb Powerbook G4 via a power reseller on ebay. The first time I switched it on it froze said OSx had quit unexpectedly... assumed I had done something wrong as not very techie so forced shut down and started again. It is saying the same message frequently and freezing... report says unresolved kernel etc etc etc.
I emailed the apple specialist I bought it off and he advises restarting by inserting the OSX disc and pressing down the C button to reboot from there then selecting disk utility, hard disk and repair. He says it shouldn't be happening as it was fully tested before dispatch?? The only thing I have loaded is an update to adobe and Software for my 3 dongle but as it was freezing before I loaded either of these I don't think they can be responsible??
Please can somebody advise if this is a serious problem. I believe I have warranty for 14 days on this item and I am worried I may have bought myself into a problem. Is this a simple thing to repair. Does he mean me to hold down the C key on the alpha keyboard or the ctrl key? (I emailed him and asked him that 2 days ago and he hasn't responded, hence my worries)... I am sorry if that is a stupid question but I really am not very techie at all.....
Should I just ask for my money back??? If it is a simple repair do I just literally push the disc in, push the power button and hold down the C button?
Any advice would be really apprciated.....
    Thank you
    Debbie

That's where I would begin, too, with
    Repair Disk
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.TStatus of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it saysanything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need touse autility like TechTool Pro,Drive Geniusor DiskWarrior
First we need to determine if the issue you are experiencing with the computer is software or hardware based. Once we have gotten things sorted out there should be time enough to make you decision about keeping or returning it.

  • Bad power adaptor... bought machine off ebay!

I just recently bought a used iBook off eBay. Bad idea I know. It seemed like it was too good to be true and it was. The iBook I was sent was not quite what the auction said it was. It came in good cosmetic shape but it was the 800mz model instead of the 900mhz and contained less ram and drive space then advertised. Not to mention I was way over charged for shipping. I already have a G4 eMac and I bought the iBook as a wireless toy basically. The biggest problem I have is that when I received the machine it had little power and died shortly after start up. When I went to plug it in I realized that the wall charger was missing the post inside the end of the cord and would not charge the machine! So I have a new (used) machine I cant not even play with! I did play around with the cord to see If I could turn the light from green to amber and had no luck. I am a little scared becuse while doing so at one point I heard some electrical "Zaps" and smelled something funny. Not good right? Any chance I could have fried a board or something? I just wish I had a good cord to try and charge the thing up with. I am currently fighting with the seller to get some money back to cover ram and a new power cord or I will end up reporting them to eBay and have to return the machine all together. I would kinda like to keep it because it seems to be in such great "cosmetic" shape. Would a place like Radio Shack have a cheap generic cord I could at least try? My Apple Store is about 45 minutes away. Any thoughts, suggestions, or opinions? It's just a bad situation I know. I think I've learned my lesson.
    iBook, 800mhz, G3   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Return the iBook and get your money back, including shipping, although I doubt your seller will take it back.
Report it to eBay and you may get what they allow for fraud protection back. You didn't get what was advertised. Take screen shots of the completed auction to prove what was advertised.
The best idea of all is if you charged it on a credit card through PayPal (that's what I always do), dispute the charge with your credit card company and you won't have to pay for it.
Chances are very good that the adapter tip is broken off in the adapter port. This happened to my husband's adapter, and it almost always damages the power input (DC-in) board to the point that it has to be replaced. While this can be done by DT & T Computer Services for $95 plus shipping both ways to and from Fremont, California, you would also need a new adapter. A third-party adapter can be had for $34.95 plus shipping, but I wouldn't buy something that didn't specifically say it would work with an iBook G3 (Dual USB) or an iBook G4 (an adapter for one will work with the other).
If the seller has lied about so much to you and sent you a defective adapter (at the very least), who knows what else may be wrong with the computer?
Dispute the charge with your credit card company if you can, and tell him he will have to pay you the same exorbitant shipping charge he charged you to get it back.
    Good luck.
