Bought a used Ipod and when installing software, music on Ipod is gone

I bought a used Ipod, and after I installed the software and got my Ipod reformatted, all of the music that was on there is gone.
Is this supposed to happen? If not, could someone please tell me how to recover all of this music?
And if that is supposed to happen, that's just pathetic. There isn't anything in the user guide or anything that says that installing an Ipod on a different computer will complete wipe out whatever was stored on it.

restoring means setting the ipod back to factory defaults and wiping it clean

If you did not yet connect with iTunes, you can place any music from your library back into your iPod from the computer. When set to automatically manage usic and videos, whatever iTunes finds changed in your music app will be reset to what is on your computer iTunes library.

Copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the music folder) from your old computer to your new one, using one of the methods outlined here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527.

Loud fan noises when using CD's to install software

Every time I used a CD to install software or use a program, my CD-ROM drive spins a very high RPM and my fans are really loud. It sounds like the thing is going to blow. It does that the entire time I have it in there. Everything else seems to run fine. Why does it go so crazy when I put CD's in?

When you're booted into the OS it controls the fan speed. When you're booted into a disc the disc has control and may or may not control said fan speed. It's really not a problem. Usually the temperature isn't really high in these situation. It's just that there's nothing to tell the computer to run the fans at XXspeed.
I've booted into DiskWarrior and it's ran for quite a while at high fan speed. It's not exactly the most pleasant auditory experience but it's also not harmful, just annoying. I wouldn't worry about it.

You should restore the the iPod to totally erase the iPod and add your own media to the iPod.
Connect the iPod to your computer and restore to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes.

Restore it in iTunes on your computer.
There is a difference between registering with Apple and using it with iTunes. To register it (which isn't necessary) you would have to get the previous owner to de-register it.

Without proper system information and other details like what files you work with nobody can tell you much. From corrupted prefs to issues with your PS swap file to actual problems with the fiel storage this could be anything.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
The music is stored on the iTunes library. This library isn't deleted when you uninstall or reinstall iTunes, so you will keep everything. Anyway, it's better to make a backup of the library. Apart from that, you can download the purchased music as many times as you want

you have a thin brick. I suspect your iPod was stolen or lost. I would turn it into the police since it is worthless to you if you can't get the previous owner to remove from their account
