Bought a used network extender

I have one I bought from Verizon and it shows up in MyVerizon to manage. I bought another from a neighbor for the far side of the house and it doesn't appear in MyVerizon. Also - I can never get the GPS to go solid on the one I purchased from a private seller even though I set it outside for more than an hour. The GPS light blinks as well as the SYS light. I imagine I need to call in the information but I wonder if the blinking lights are related to it being unmanaged in Verizon.
If this device was registered to the private seller, will Verizon let me register it to my account? I do not know who the private seller was who had it registered before. I am happy to make a sworn statement that it isn't stolen, etc.

Contact customer service and see what they say. Have the serial number thy will want that.

Mine usually does this for 15-20 minutes when it's first powered on, or when it's connection has been reset. Have you contacted Verizon Customer/Technical Support (800-922-0204)? If you purchased this unit from somewhere other than Verizon or as a refurbished unit, it's MAC ID may still be associated with the previous owner's account. Verizon Support can also assist with this.

Problems with Network Extender

We have recently moved into a metal building as our home. Our phone signals are affected and so we did the research and bought a Verizon network extender. The bars on our phones went straight up to 4 and the VNE works great ... up until you use the internet for anything that takes a little bandwidth. I work in a home office over a VPN all day. I can be taking a call and as soon as I send an email (no attachments just an email), my call becomes choppy and unusable. I paid our ISP technician an hour's onsite visit to troubleshoot our in-home network and with his monitoring we noted that the bandwidth performance was drastically affected when the VNE is attached and working. According to FAQs, the bandwidth required for the VNE should be nominal. We have 10 mbps down and 4 up...and the VNE seems to cause all kinds of internet issues when plugged in.
Further, the GPS signal catches and stays for hours but then seems like when left unattended for hours the blue light goes away...if I pick up the VNE and just move it around, the GPS signal catches again. I have attached the "external GPS cable" just to see but if it gets the Blue light at all, doesn't that really mean the extra cable isn't necessary?
Does anyone have any suggestions how I can successfully use this tool?

I want you to have the best experience using your cell service while at home. Every call connected to the extender should only be using an average of 40 kbps. Was the technician able to advise how much bandwidth is being used? We may need to reach out to our engineering team to confirm the manner that the Network Extender is connecting to your internet but the more information we have from your ISP, the more details we can provide. I also recommend you contact the manufacturer of your router if it's different than your ISP. Occasionally settings need to be changed to ensure better call quality.
Does the GPS light turn off or does it go from Blue to Red? The external cable is only needed when the light is Red and stronger connection is needed. Please ensure that the Network Extender is located in an open area, preferably in an elevated location near a window and in an upright position. Please provide more details as to exactly what happens with the light.

Time Capsule only runs with 1,1Mbit up/down during data transfer, internet speed is ok, TC is used to extend an existing network

Hello Everyone,
I have a new 2TB Time Capsule running with a MacBook Air. I want to use the TC to access data (Aperture library, iTunes library, other Files) and to backup my MacBook Air via Time Machine. I set it up, integrated the TC in my Network (FritzBox) by choosing "extend existing network" and it works. BUT only with 1.1Mbit/second while writing or reading Data to/from it. Internet speed is very good, like it was before. While the 1.1Mbit/second seem to be ok with Aperture and iTunes (streaming music and movies) it is still painfully slow and I'm not realy happy with that
I've read that:
The 1.1Mbit problem is pretty common when Time Capsule is integrated and used to extend a network (bridge modus), it also looses all ethernet connectivity then (that woul explain why connecting it by ethernet didn't help during initial setup and data transfer)
Is there a solution besides ditching the Fritzbox and using the TC to build the network? Because basicly I still need the Fritzbox for its DECT features.

You have double hop wireless with this setup..
You should bridge the TC.. that is router bridge not wireless bridge, and plug the TC into the Frizyboy by ethernet.
Then you can setup the TC wireless to reinforce the fritzy..
Same wireless name as SSID.
Same security settings... really should be WPA2 AES or in TC personal.
Same password..
Just different wireless channel.
Then you can use 5ghz on the TC if you are up close and personal.

Verizon should be giving me a network extender if I cannot use their phone here in my home even though they say I "should" have coverage. Verizon acknowledges that it is a problem of theirs...but I'm expected to pay my bill and can't use my phone?

I want VERIZON to send us a NETWORK extender at their cost because I pay my bill and am NOT receiving phone service from VERIZON as promised. I am stranded without the use of my cell phone in my home. My contract says that VERIZON will provide me service and I must pay...I DO pay. First of all, Verizon does not guarantee service, even in areas where the map says there is full coverage.
Service provided vial radio waves can be affected by multiple things, such as foliage, buildings AND asmospheric conditions such as snowstorms.
Maybe you should have purchased the NE before the snowstorm, but then if your power went out, you would be out of luck. Of course, your power company says they will provide you power, but then again, sometimes there are outages.
If phone service is so important, there is NOTHING as reliable as a land line!!!

TC first gen was not simultaneous dual band. So.. it's probably best to factory reset your extreme and then tell it to extend again.

It sounds like he is setting up the iPod via wif. You can't continue. What yo can do is reset the iPod
- Reset the iOS device.
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Then start the setup over again but this time connect the iPod to a computer and set up via iTunes. Then he can troubleshoot the connection proboem.

A Sprint iPhone uses CDMA when in the US. The SIM is used only when not in the US.
To use it in the US, you have to have Sprint activate it, but it is unlikely they will activate in on your company's account.

Checkpoint SSL Network extender stuck on Java applet when using firefox 4.0.1

I use check point SSL network extender on my mac to access my company's VPN. Since upgrading to 4.0.1, I get the message "Please confirm the use of this Java applet and then refresh or reopen the window.
If you have already disapproved using this applet, you might need to restart your browser before attempting to connect again"
I'll accept, refresh, wait, and then the message comes back. I never get through. I just uninstalled 4.0.1 and went back to 3.6.17 and it's working fine on the old version.

The first thing I notice is that you are using Firefox 4 and that is now out of date, it is not considered secure so it would make sense to upgrade to Firefox 5 (Or Firefox 6 if you read this after the 16th)
You mention Firefox 3.6.17, and although Firefox 3.6 is still (for possibly only a limited time) supported I believe the current version is 3.6.20 (it is certainly at least 3.6.18) so again you are using an out of date version. I am not a Mac user but IIRC some of the recent updates were Mac specific and fixed Mac problems, possibly problems relating to Java.
If you wish to use more than one version of Firefox to test problems developers tend to use separate profiles and custom installs but for ordinary users it may be worth considering firefox [http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable portable] versions. (that tip is applicable mainly to Windows users, no doubt there is also a poratable version for firfox5 Mac users somewhere)

Unfortunately no, since the AirPort Extreme should be configured in Bridge Mode if it is connecting to the Time Capsule using an Ethernet connection.
The Guest Network option cannot be enabled when the AirPort is configured in Bridge Mode.
Another way of saying the same thing is that the Guest Network cannot be "extended" either by using an Ethernet connection or wireless. It is only available from the Time Capsule "main" wireless router on your network, not any extending devices.

Can I ditch my landline internet service and use a network extender & hotspot instead?

I live in a rural area with lousy landline internet access but a pretty good cell signal. I've heard that a person can use the combination of internet extender & jetpack for internet access. Is that correct, or do I need to have DSL in order to use the network extender?
And is it necessary to spend $250 for a network extender? It looks like they ordinarily run around $50. Why is the Verizon one so steep?

Can an airplay speaker be a wireless client of an Airport Express used as a network extender?

I have a wireless network with a TimeCapsule and an Airport Express. The Airport Express is used to extend the network to enlarge the wireless coverage area. I would like to use an Airplay speaker wirelessly in the area of my house that is best covered by the Airport Express. I have not been able to get the Airplay speaker to be a client of the Express. When connected it always ends up a client of the TimeCapsule, even when the Express is very near and the TimeCapsule is far away. This means that I get spotty playback on my speaker because of the weak signal from the TimeCapsule. I know I can connect the speaker with a cord to the Express and get sound but for reasons of portability I prefer to go wireless. The speaker is a Klipsch G-17 and my computer is an IMac.

My Ipad acts differently. It will become a client of the closer device and will switch if I move from one part of the house to another.
That is what the Klipsch speaker should do as well. I think you have a question for Klipsch support to ask them how the speaker picks a wireless access point.
There are no settings or adjustments on your Apple devices to tell the Klipsch speaker what to do. It is up to the Klipsch speaker to select the access point that it will use.

Airport Extreme used to extend network malfunctioning

For several years I have had a modem with a current generation AE used for wireless and an older AE used to extend that wireless network. The configuration that has worked for me has been to set the first AE in bridge mode and use the second to extend the first AE. All are connected via ethernet. It has always worked...until recently.
I found that when I unplug both my AEs and turn the wireless portion of my modem on to help with testing (it was usually off), my problems (drastic latency, drops, etc...) went away. The modem alone seems to work as it should. I decided to set up my network from scratch to see if that would help. It has not and I wanted to get some expert advice.
Here are my steps and the issues.
1. I shut everything down and only turn the modem back on. I test the signal via the wireless and it works fine every time.
2. I reset the current generation AE and begin to set it up. I configure the AE to be in bridge mode. As soon as the modem updates, the network has gone down the tubes - nothing works. Internet access is poor or unavailable from the AE and modem. If I unplug the AE, I'm back up and running from the modem with no issues.
3. I am not even trying to use the 2nd

Any help would be appreciated?

You should be using the setup "wizard" to configure the AirPort Extreme. Are you doing this? You should not have to set up the AirPort in Bridge Mode....the setup utility will do that for you automatically, assuming that everything is working.
Try the setup again using the "wizard". If you are still having problems after a few tries, then try the "other" AirPort Extreme temporarily.
If the "other" AirPort works, you may have a defective AirPort Extreme.

Make sure your network has 802.11b activated. The G3 only supports the "B" wireless networking protocol. Modern networking is "G".

Please locate the model number on the side of the AirPort Express. Hard to see.....gray lettering on a white background....so you may likely need a magnifying glass and good lighting to see it.
The model number starts with a "A" followed by four numbers. If you see A1084 or A1088, unfortunately AirPort Utility 6.x in Mavericks OS X (10.9.4) does not support these older models. However, you can still administer these models if you have a Mac.....or can borrow one for a few minutes....using Leopard (10.5.x) or Snow Leopard (10.6.x), or a PC with AirPort Utility installed on the device.
