Bought Ipod to replace stolen Ipod

Hi,
I've just bought an Ipod 60gb off Ebay to replace a 20gb Ipod I had stolen.
I had my original Ipod in the manual setting.I have over 2000 songs on my computer.
When I connected the new Ipod to my computer,it said something like update or restore. One was going to wipe out all my songs,so I clicked the other option, and now nothing seemed to be happening other than a small sun type circle appearing in the top left hand corner, and the do not disconnect appearing on the Ipod. When I tried to eject the ipod it says on the computer"The device Apple Ipod USB cannot be stopped right now.Try stopping the device again later."
My question is can I keep all my songs on my computer and how do I transfer them all to my new Ipod?
I mosat certainly dont want to delete my songs off my computer if at all possible.
Please help?Many thanks Danny

You just need to connect your iPod and let it load the songs from your library. Loading an iPod will not delete songs from a computer. The iPod may have been set to automatic update by it's previous owner so you would have been given two options "Erase & Sync" or "Cancel". Choose Erase & Sync, this will replace whatever is currently on the iPod with what is in your iTunes:
Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Also the firmware may be out of date on the iPod in which case it would give you the option to bring that up to date, if the iPod had previously been used on a Mac it would ask you to Restore. Restoring will erase and reformat the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists choose no and it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

  • Just bought ipod nano.  Just bought 2 songs in istore however did not sync to my ipod.  how do i tell if ipod is active with istore

Just bought ipod and went to istore and bought 2 songs.  However does not seem to have synced to my ipod.  How do i make sure device is recognized by istore.  Should istore page be indicating its presence.  First experience with ipod or istore and am very frustrated right now.  Please help.

Wow that was really quick, thank you so much.  Im not sure at all which version it was because i said it was around 4 years ago he bought it.  I know it isn't under his username, since he's a PC person (ugh) so i know its probably registered to one of our actual names.  isn't there some way to look it up since we did register it, because I'm not even sure where the disks are from when we bought it (we've moved a lot and also have two storage lockers, i know i would have kept it with other disks) but my cd rom drive is actually broken on my computer as well ( i think it got stepped on and is now squished and won't eject or run disks.)
So is there anyway they can look up that its registered to one of our names since we did register it when we bought and installed it, or do i really have to find the disk with some sort of proof of purchase (i know there would be no receipt after all this time)
either way, ill do what you suggested to the best of my abilities and thank you so much for answering my questions, i can't even open the program as its incompatible and find out the info from that) so I'm in a bit of a pickle and your response was so thorough and it didn't seem to be posted long enough to even write a well researched response, thanks, all the best,

    omijh,
It will not work no matter how many times you choose to restore your iPod touch. If it is blocked than it is blocked. So prern do not restore your iPod. It will take up your time and will be a waste. Listen to stedman1 and Dave Sawyer. An by the way, Facetime is available on iOS 4...so again you are wrong.

  • Car charger in Europe for US bought iPod 3g

I bought an iPod Touch 3g in the US. Then I moved to Germany. I bought a Belkin Micro USB Car Charger in Germany, but my US-bought iPod touch 3g does not charge from it, using the USB-dock cable that came with the iPod touch. When I returned the Belkin charger (to the chain electronics store) the salesman told me that NO charger bought in Europe will work with the US bought iPod 3g. Is this for real, or is he full of $%^&*? I can charge from my laptop USB connector, and from a Wii USB port. Why can I not charge from a USB car adapter? Can someone suggest a product I can buy in Europe for my car lighter socket? Thanks!

    deric.apple wrote:
... the salesman told me that NO charger bought in Europe will work with the US bought iPod 3g.
That is not true. First of all, the iPod Touch requires the standard USB voltage to charge (that's approximately 5v), and at (I think) 500mA. mA is the current, or the speed that the electricity moves along the wire. That's the same, whether the iPod was purchased in the USA, the European Union, or Japan (in fact, anywhere)
the salesman told me that _NO charger_ bought in Europe ...
"A charger" could mean any one of several different types, so if that's what the saleman actually said, he was playing with words. He still wasn't correct though:
    1. wall charger; transforms the "local" voltage into USB voltage. The "local" voltage in the USA is 120 volts, in Europe it's (mainly) 220 volts.
    2. USB port on a computer; it will be 5 volts, but some USB ports (keyboard ones especially) do not provide a high enough current and therefore will not charge an iPod.
    3. *"Car chargers for iPods";* a device that plugs into the car's "cigarette lighter" outlet (or now sometimes called the "12 volt out socket" or similar). Car battery voltage is 12 volts, so the "car charger" has to change that to 5 volts. But it also has to provide 500mA.
So what were you sold? The pictures and description of the three Belkin Micro USB Car Chargers that I've seen (on the Belkin website) look as though they should all do the job, but there is no technical information to confirm that for two of them. So what was the problem? I don't know, was the device you had in two parts, a "plug" that fitted into the car socket and a cable that plugged into the "plug"? If not, and it was a one piece device with the cable coming directly out of the device, perhaps it was a firewire charger. If so, that is the problem.
Older iPods charged through "firewire" or USB, but newer iPods do not (and cannot) use the firewire charging voltage. Firewire voltage is 12 volts and there have been plenty of "chargers" which were "designed" for iPods but used only the firewire output. So they work with older iPods, but not newer ones and definitely not with the Touch.
Wow! I realise that's a bit long-winded, but the fact is, you can buy a charger to charge your iPod Touch from the car socket. But it must be a USB one that provides 5 volts and at least 500mA. If it only provides 300mA, it will not work. Try another shop.

  • HT1766 i just bought iPod touch 8GB put it in iTune and it show only 34Mb available. and it been use 6.2GB (other on Summery) no App. sync. I don't have enough space to sync any application!?

I just bought iPod touch 8GB put it in iTune and it show only 34Mb available. and it been use up 6.2GB show from the iTune Summery as "OTHER 6.2 GB" so I don't have enoght space to sync any much application for my kids. How do i do? I already make sure it has no Picture, songs ...all only app that come with the factory default. How do I do? or something wrong..
I got iPhone and another ipod touch (32GB) but it has a lot of space available...I just can't fix it out what OTHER  6.2GB used came from?

Other can be files that the iPod has "lost" or can no longer recognise.
So either you bought this second hand and it had someone else's stuff on it, or you were unlucky and the first Sync of your iPod to iTunes resulted in a lot of "Other".
Conect the iPod to iTunes and on the Device/Summary pane (tab) look for and select the Restore button.

  • Bought ipod 5th generation off ebay, computer doesn't recognise it, even in disc mode.  any suggestions?

I bought ipod 5th generation off ebay, computer doesn't recognise it, even in disc mode.  any suggestions?

Can I assume you are using iTunes 10?
But most probably, your iPod hardisk is the problem and your Windows 7 is taking a long time to read the disk filesystem.
Do a disk diagnostic first as posted by tt2, don't worry about the Mac user, Disk diagnostic refer to iPod and not the OS.

This wont fix your problem, but will help in troubleshooting route, as there are dozens of reasons for the failure.
Post the results here and hopefully it is not the harddisk.
    Good Luck!

    Hey wangyz_david,
Thanks for the question and detailed information. I understand that you are experiencing issues with your iPhone 5s in relation to battery life. The following website outlines some great tips for maximizing battery performance:
Apple - Batteries - Maximizing Performance

I also understand that you are interested in performing a recovery mode restore. You can find information regarding recovery mode here:
If you can't update or restore your iOS device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
Please keep in mind that restoring your backup may cause the issue to be restored as well. For the best isolation steps, you may wish to restore as new:
iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device

After erasing and setting up as a new device, your device is now in a factory configuration. Test to determine if erasing and setting up as a new device resolved the issue. Content on the device may have caused unexpected behavior.
If the issue is still present, you may want to contact Apple Support.
    Thanks,

My iphone 4 was crushed on the road.  Bought a 4 replacement tried to restore it in itunes to get my contact info and it said there was a problem with my phone and I should contact apple store.  What does that mean please?

Is the replacement exactly the same as the original ie same memory size & same version? If so it may require updating the OS software before trying to restore your stuff from the backup.

  • Bought a NuPower replacement battery, but can't get my MacBook to see it.

    Hi Everyone!
Bought a NuPower replacement battery and installed it.  Rebooted and the fans are running at full tilt.  Did a SMC reset and a PRAM zap.  Shut down.  Restarted and the battery icon still has an X in it (no batteries available).  Fans are running fast as well (again).
Repeated this a few times, but still can't get the MacBook to see it.
Here's the deets of my MacBook:

  • New ipod to replace stolen one, current iTunes, PC laptop - not happy! Help

Okay so here is my problem - I'll try and describe what I've done as best I can. I've been through all the Apple help and can't see any error message info like the one I've had.
Recently got new 30gB black iPod to replace a stolen one. As they only come with USB chargers I decided to charge mine on my work PC computer which does not have any iPod/iTunes software (this is where I think it started to go wrong...)
I then plugged it into my laptop with iTunes already installed from previous iPod. Error message came up on laptop saying iPod recognised, but there may be a problem with the new hardware and it may not work properly. Then the icon disappears and I can't access the iPod through anything - not seen in iTunes, My Computer - nowhere. Hmm...
Incidentally my wireless internet at home is down and I can't get online on my laptop (which might also be part of the problem).
However, I plugged the new iPod into a colleague's work computer with iTunes installed, it recognised my iPod, and I was able to register it online and give it a name. Tried it back on my laptop again to update my iTunes library and nothing. Incidentally I have got the latest iPod update on my laptop but seeing is it's not recognising it in the first place other than saying there's a problem, I can't do anything with it.
I've tried putting the iPod into disk mode when attached to the laptop but it says Ok to disconnect, there's no other change in the screen. And I don't see a folder with an ! nor a sad face so all in all I'm totally stumped.
Has anyone ever experienced anything like this before? I'm really worried about totally uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling because I don't have an external storage drive yet and I'm frightened I'll lose all my music.
Please please please can anyone help? thanks x

    hiya!
interesting. was the previous ipod also a video? the videos and nanos have more features, and that seems to make them a bit more sensitive to a slightly flaky USB connection than some other models.
let's check to see if this is an issue for you:
iPod not recognized when connected to Windows laptop over USB
... i've also seen the Toshiba treatment work on a Dell (note that the video probably won't charge off the Dell if you try this).
iPod not recognized correctly on Toshiba laptop
    keep us posted.

  • Replaced stolen iPod - can I delete the old registered one in iTunes?

I have three (3) 30GB iPod Videos (for me, my daughter, and son). My daughter's iPod was stolen a while back and we just replaced it.
I use the latest version of iTunes for Windows on my Windows XP system with one account to manage all 3 iPods' songs, games, and playlists.
Most of our music is from our own CD's, but we've purchased a dozen songs and a few games from iTunes. I have loaded the purchased songs and games onto all three of the iPods.
I have not plugged in the new iPod to my computer yet (I want my questions answered first before I proceed).
Are there any limits to the number of iPods you can download purchased music AND GAMES to from one account and one iTunes library?
If not, then I'll just plug in the new iPod and go on my merry way.
If there is a limit (and that limit is 3), then I'd like to delete/remove the stolen iPod's registration from iTunes before I plug in the new iPod, so that only my 2 remaining iPods and the new third iPod will be registered in iTunes.
Any guidance will be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Sailor Guy

There are no limits on the number of iPods you can connect to your iTunes account. I'm currently loading three shuffles, two minis, and two nanos.
Don't worry about deleting info re: the stolen iPod--iTunes will not "remember" it, unless it's plugged into your computer.
    P.S.--I'm sorry for your loss!
