Bought New Computer-Transfer Music Files
I bought a new computer and would like this to be the new location for my itunes. How do I import all of the files from my old computer to the new one? Can they be installed directly from my ipod?
*How do I import all of the files from my old computer to the new one?*
Probably the most straightforward way to get iTunes onto your new computer is to network it with the old one and copy your iTunes folder across. This works fine if you have been using iTunes to completely manage your music and all your songs are in iTunes Music not in different folders. You can also use this method with an external hard drive, you drag the folder from the old computer to the external drive and then from the drive to the new computer. If the songs in your library are not all in the iTunes Music folder you can consolidate them. When you consolidate, any songs in the iTunes Library that are not in the iTunes Music Folder are copied to the Music Folder and the Library is updated to point to those new files. Files already in the iTunes Music Folder have no changes made to them: Copying all your iTunes files to one location - Windows
Copying the whole folder brings with it the iTunes Music folder and also the iTunes Library (iTunes Library.itl in Windows) database file which holds all the information about your songs (Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, Last Played, Date Added, etc). You'll get more information including the Folder/File structure in this article: What are the iTunes library files?
When you copy the iTunes folder make sure you put it into the same location on the new computer. This has to be the exact same place, on a PC this is \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\. Everything has to be exactly the same on the new computer including the Windows user account name. When you open iTunes on the new computer it will be the same as on the original one Songs, Playlists, Play Counts, Ratings etc. You should also use the same version of iTunes on both computers.
Your iPod can also used as an external drive and you can move the iTunes folder onto it: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
If you have any iTunes purchases in your library don't forget that you'll need to authorise your new computer to play them. Also if you are disposing of the old one remember to deauthorise it so you don't use up one of your allowances: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation

Reinstall new computer, missing music files
I had my old computer backed up with Carbonite. New computer is Win 7 but when I attempt to transfer my music, many songs have an exclamation mark & when attempting to drag the song to create a new playlist I get message that the file is missing. How do I restore these files? Frustrated. Thanks :-)
Hi jackiesic,
When tracks in iTunes display a it means the file cannot be located; it may have been moved or deleted.
This may have occurred during the transfer of files to your new computer, as the iTunes Media folder was either omitted from the transfer, or was moved to the wrong location. For more information, see this article:
iTunes: Finding lost media and downloads

Alternatively, if your media was downloaded from the iTunes Store, you may be able to download it again free of charge:

New Computer; my music files are not on board
I just built a new computer and have loaded iTunes. My iTouch is retaining all of the apps and music I had stored on it.
My problem is that iTunes cannot find the music because it's not where it was located before.
If I "delete" the library then it warms me it will delete the tunes (any that were synced with the old iTunes) from the iTouch also.
I'd like to just delete the present library and then provide new links in a new one.
Help me out so I don't make it worse than what it is!
ThanksGo into iTunes > Preferences - Advanced Tab, and tell iTunes where the library is located on your hard drive. You should be good to go.

How to transfer music files on iPad to new Macbook Pro
I just got my new MacBook Pro and I am learning some of the features it has to offer but I have not figured out how to transfer music files from my iPad3 to the new laptop. Is there a way to do that or am I out of luck?
Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.

For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

I have a new Lumia 620 - I want to transfer music files from my PC (I have music in the DRM protected format .wma - it plays correctly on my PC - and did on my previous nokia phone)
I have used the nokia music player to redownload some tracks to pc as mp3 - these can be transferred OK and play OK on the new phone
However others listed in the purchase history do not redownload (on using the redownload button the application freezes)
Additionally some of the tracks - which are valid on the pc - are not included in the purchase history
How do I solve these two issues?
Thanks
gcbHi,
In the case where you experience a crash when the download button in the Nokia Music Player is pressed, is this happening at random, or are there specific tracks/albums affected by this? If it is specific tracks, please provde more information on tracks that have had this problem so that out Music team can investigate further.
Something else that you can try is that provided you still have redownload rights for any track, you can simply find it in the Music Store and click the Buy link - it should be downloaded with your existing redownload rights instead of charging you, so this is a possible workaround to the redownload link crashing that you can try.
Tracks which no longer appear in your purchase history are most likely withdrawn from sale at Nokia Music by the record labels concerned, in which case it is not possible to redownload them.
If this or any post answers your question, please remember to help others by pressing the 'Accept as solution' button. -

The easiest way to get back missing items? Restore your whole hard drive with all your irreplaceable things like photos in about 20 minutes from the backup clone you make on a regular basis.

N96 Won't transfer music files
My N96 Won't transfer music files even though it's a brand new phone with plenty free memory. 'Nokia Music Manager' just says 'There is not enough free memory in the device'. I've checked that it's the phone memory in use (E:\) but it still won't transfer.
This is usually a problem with the default target directory in Music Manager, however you seem to say you've already checked this.
Rather than waste a lot of time trying to fix this, I'd just copy the files either by connecting the phone via USB cable in Data Transfer Mode or by using a card reader if you're transferring to the card and drag and drop the files to the Sounds\Digital directory.
I actually do all my transfers (usually well over 0.5GB a week in podcasts) like this: music manager's too much of a pain to use.
Just remember to refresh/update your library once you've transferred the files. -
I am trying to transfer music files from one PC to another using homeshare and although I can view the music as a shared folder I cannot initiate the "import" process. I have iTunes 11.0.1.12 on both computers so the help screenshots do not help as such
Then stop trying to use HomeShare and use one of the other options listed in the document from which your question was posted.
