Bought new laptop, switching songs from PC to laptop

I had itunes set up on my PC and then bought a new laptop. I installed itunes on my laptop but don't know how to get the songs from the ipod to the library on the laptop. I tried it the first time and it deleted everything off of my ipod so I had to reload it from the PC. It will recognize that the songs are on my ipod but will not transfer them to the library. I've not tried alot bc it took so long to get the songs on there in the first place. I've looked in the owner's manual and have not been able to figure it out. HELP!!!

ITunes musical library located on a WD 2TB, ext. drv. Computer destroyed by virus; ED survived. Bought new laptop, connected ED. Not able to see library. ED shows as 'G:' 95% full. How can I reconnect my old library to new laptop?

I had my iTunes musical library on an ext. drv. WD 2TB, ‘MY BOOK ESSENTIAL'. Three weeks ago, my computer was infected by a virus that fried it. It did not affect the external drive. I bought a new computer: a laptop, Dell XPS, Intel Core i7-2630QM CPU, Windows 7 Home Premium. I have been able to connect the WD external drive; however, I am not able to see the musical library in my iTunes or Explorer. ‘My Computer’ shows the external drive as ‘G:’ 95% full. It reads, 32.1 GB free of 1.36 TB. When I click on the drive to see its contents, it shows nothing. The library in iTunes also shows nothing. Can anyone help, please? How can I reconnect my old musical library to my new laptop and iTunes? Many thanks.

Hmm, viruses don't generally "fry" drives. They can make bootable operating systems not bootable, hide data, and corrupt executable files. Software can potentially wipe all the data from the drive but it shouldn't be able to physically damage the drive. Bah! What's done is done.
As to unhiding your files assuming they are just hidden....
Hit Start > Run, type in CMD and press enter. Type the following at the prompt and then press enter:
attrib -h -s -r g:\*.* /d /s
This tells windows to clear the hidden, read-only, and system flags from all files on the drive, assuming of course your profile has the power to "see" the files and change them.
If that doesn't work then you may need to take ownership of the drive first. The drive may have security settings that make it "belong" to an account on your old system. Right-click on the drive in Windows Explorer and click Properties. Click the Security tab, the Advanced button, the Owner tab, then the Edit tab. Make yourself the owner, then you can make any other changes to the security settings you want to back on the Permissions tab. (If you can't change the owner log out and log back in as Administrator). For iTunes your account (or everyone) and SYSTEM need full access to all files. Any changes you make should be applied to "This folder, subfolders and files", should be inheritable and you should also replace the permissions on all child objects.

and activate with your serial number.
if you have a problem downloading, you didn't follow all 7 steps, or your browser does not accept cookies.
the most common problem is caused by failing to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 (which adds a cookie to your system enabling you to download the correct version from adobe.com).
failure to obtain that cookie results in an error page being displayed after clicking a link on prodesigntools.com

I've had a problem with syncing itunes, when i sync it dosent sync songs previously deleted it just greys them out, which is great but if i want to add a new video or song from my computer it wont sync it will just grey out and wont play. now all my songs

ive had a problem syncing with itunes recently. when i delete a song on my iphone when i sync with my computer it still syncs but just greys out and is rendered useless. thats great unless i when i want to add new music or videos from my pc to my iphone it wont sync and will just grey out. i looked for solutions and one said that deleteing all your music from the usage in settings would fix it, well now when i sync all of my music is greyed out. ive tried adding all of my songs manually into my ipod instead of syncing entire library and nothing. (also when i select to sync music nothing shows up in the usage bar (normally 3 gigs) might help) could someone please help?

if you have a mobile me account. First go and move all your data to the cloud by going on your computer and logging in at me.com/move. The cloud has replaced mobile me, so there is no need for those two accounts
Also make sure that for any of your email accounts you set them up to fetch, not push. My tech person set them all to have the email servers push data to the phone. The new iphone4s antenna is extremely strong so it will continually try to access stuff that is pushed–***** a lot of battery life doing this. It makes it worse if you have exchange 2010 accounts. Something about changes made to exchange really suck battery life from devices that access such accounts.

Switched songs from my old (broken) to my new one- now my songs won't play

I was able to transfer my music from my old laptop to my new one using my ipod, but the music won't play - it says "the song _ could not be used because the original file could not be found." I have over 1000 songs, I can not afford to start over, I am frustrated - everyone I have talked to says forget it and that this is how apple scams people.

Transferring playlists
If you want not only your content but also your playlists to exist on your new computer, you will want to transfer a copy of all your playlists from your old computer. To do this, choose File > Library > Export Library on your old computer. Save the XML file that is created to your desktop.
Send the playlists file to yourself as an e-mail attachment, use an external drive, or use file sharing to move the playlists file to your new computer. Once the file is on your new computer, open iTunes and choose File > Library> Import Playlist. The import process will remove any items from the playlists that you didn't share via Home Sharing.

New Macbook - import songs from iTunes on Windows

Hope someone can make a suggestion. Just started using a macbook and would like to transfer my itunes library from my Windows PC to the macbook without having to create 50 cds.
my ipod is formatted for windows and I know I'll need to reformat it to use it but how do I get songs on to my macbook before doing that?

As I understand it - If I were to have bought Lion from the app store, I would be allowed to install it on all of my authorized computers. (right?)
So anyways, I haev a Mac Mini, with SL on it. I recently bought a MBA, with Lion on it. Can I somehow get Lion authorized so that I can get it installed on my mini?

Bought new ipod, installed software from the cd but one problem

When I installed the ipod software from the cd and try to open itunes I get message that says "Itunes has encountered a problem and need to close, sorry for the inconvinience". I tried unsinstalling the software and installing again but thats not the solution, any tips.

the first thing that i check for when people report getting that message when they try to launch their itunes is a broken QuickTime.
try to open your QuickTime. does it launch properly, or do you get an error message?
if you get an error message, the first thing we'll try is a careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.

if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?

You mean your iTunes Match library? Open iTunes and go to Store>Authorize This Computer and sign in with the Apple ID you used for iTunes Match. Then go to Store>Sign In and sign in with the ID. Then go to Store>Turn On iTunes Match, and when prompted, click Add Computer.

New laptop, windows 8. iTunes stored on external hard drive. Songs are synching fine. But no playlists?

Hi. Bought new laptop, with windows 8. Always keep my iTunes library on an external hard drive which I hooked up to the new laptop. Downloaded iTunes. Pointed iTunes at the iTunes folder on the external hard drive. Songs synched up fine, but none of my playlists show up. They are still on my iPod classic. So I do not want to synch the ipod to itunes for fear of losing them. Would the playlists not still be on the external hard drive? Went to File: Library: Import playlist and tried several folders within iTunes folder, but this does not work. Anyone know which folder exactly I should import from? At a loss, any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

When you put your library on the external drive did you put the whole iTunes folder there or just the music files? If you put the whole folder on the external then your iTunes library file should be on there too. Try holding down the Shift key in Windows when opening iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to an existing one. Look in the iTunes folder on your external drive for the library file (they have the extension .itl) and open it: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file

Can I transfer songs from my admin account to a new user account?

I want to start using a user account as my main account instead of the admin account. I bought a bunch of songs from iTunes and downloaded them to my admin account.
Can I transfer these songs from my admin account to a new user account and then de-authorized the songs on my admin account?

If you don't change your iTMS account, you don't have to de-authorize.
Your computer is already authorized to play the songs.

I bought a 80's song from mixed album, two songs play where one dont. It will play on computer and look like it downloaded to itouch but no sound although the bar is moving as if playing. Help

The exact same thing has happened to me . . . 2 of the 4 songs I purchased recently play fine on the PC and are listed in the ipod's contents, but are skipped over when I try playing them directly on the ipod. I'm a newbie at this, so go easy . . .
