Bought Skype Number, but goes to someone else?

I just got assigned a skype number, and I sent an SMS to it to verify it was working. Instead of receiving it somewhere in my Skype account, someone responds asking who I am.
Apparently Skype sold me a phone number that's in use by someone else already? What the hell, and how do I resolve this?

Skype Numbers cannot receive SMS messages ...
For problems with your Skype Number, please contact Skype customer service for assistance. Here is a link to the instruction on how to contact Skype Customer Service via their secure portal: Contact Customer Service
As you know you intend to contact Customer Service, skip past Step 2 of the instruction where several articles from the FAQ library will appear for you to review, and proceed to Step 3, Continue Support Request (the "button" appears at the lower right corner of the website page). You may also skip past in Step 4 where you will be referred back here to the Community; no need to do this as the Community is where you started.

I got my Skype number few days back, and when I call it from another phone it simply goes to someone's voicemail. Why is this so? And how to fix it? NOTE: I have set the privacy settings for my account and Skype phone to be called from anywhere/anyone.

are you sure it's not your own Skype Voicemail (VM) service?
are you signed into a Skype client so you can receive the incoming call without it going to VM?
if you are sure it is some foreign VM service, then you should contact customer service

I have a similar issue. Someone is calling me relentlessly using my own skype number. I need to keep it open to get business calls, so I can't restrict access. I have the number associated with all my business accounts, and I need to keep it. How can I protect my number? I bought it years ago, the problems have only started since skype's purchase by microsoft.

Cancelling a Skype Number subscription is the same as cancelling any subscription: sign on to the Skype website or transfer to your account from your Skype client software, and click on the Manage Subscriptions: Skype Number, and cancel (please see screen shot, below; the "cancel" button is highlighted in orange). The new machine has Mavericks which is fine. And I will leave it as is. I don’t want anything from my old machine other than 2 apps that I will need on the new one. I want to be able to install those apps that I bought from the App Store onto my new computer. I assume Apple doesn’t want me to have the apps installed on 2 machines at the same time so I wonder if just uninstalling them from my old machine will release them for re-install on the new one.

How can I stop someone from receiving iMessages on their old disconnected iPhone, w'hich is still active in iMessage, when the number now belongs to someone else with a non apple device!?!

To further clarify my dilemma ....
A friend of mine just got a new phone number on her LG cell phone.
When I try to text her, my messages are going to someone else's iPhone.
The iPhone has been deactivated off the VZ cell network, but they are still using it on WIFI.
They used to have this number on their iPhone, and it's still active in iMessage.
So, when I try to send a text message to my friend on her LG, from my iPhone,
they instead go to this total stranger, cuz they still have that number active in their iMessage account.
This is a serious issue!!
The only suggestion I get from apple support is to have my friend get a new number, or for me to turn off iMessage when I want to text her.
Not really the optimum solution.
Something really should be done to prevent this from happening!

An icloud account is designed to be used by just one user. If you have given your ID or set up your account on someone else's device, then their data will be mingled with your or worse.

The telephone number on your Apple ID is tied to iMessages. You may need to change the password for your Apple ID account to prevent others from using it. Here are some articles that will help with this:

Purchased Hong Kong Skype number but Caller ID not...

I just purchased a Hong Kong Skype number. I live in Hong Kong. I enabled Skype number as my Caller ID number via the website. Everything is all set. But when I dial another Hong Kong number, whether it is a fixed line or mobile number, the other side cannot see my Skype number, but instead only see UNKNOWN or Out of Area. Can you please help resolve this issue? From your support page, Hong Kong Skype number definitely supports Caller ID!

You will need to proceed through each step, one at a time. Sign on to the Skype website as requested. Choose the subject and topic which most closely matches the item you need assistance with. A Skype Number is a different subscription from purchasing credit; you would have to check on the offerings available if credit is "bundled" with a Skype Number purchase or not. I do not believe it is. Credit is credit; there is no "discounted" rate. Check the Skype subscription website pages to see if purchasing a subscription could discount the cost of a Skype Number.

Your second two questions are related to Caller ID. More details about how this works can be found in this library of FAQ articles: https://support.skype.com/en/category/CALLER_IDENTIFICATION/
Caller ID is tricky; sometimes it works and sometimes the data does not get transmitted as the call is routed from Skype to one or more carriers before the call reaches its destination. For best success, be sure your Skype Number is set in your on-line account details as your Caller ID. What ultimately appears for the ID on the call recipient's side ultimately depends upon the carrier. For more details about this, check posts by Community contributor WD9EWK.
Since a Skype Number is a fixed line number, there is no indication that the number is a "Skype Number" or a "fixed line" number.

Online number already used by someone else

Hello, I am in New Zealand. I purchased an online number and when I did a test call, I realised it is assigned to someone else who previously used skype but has now transferred it to another SIP service. Can anyone help?

I bought an online number and it shows up on my account, yet i never got charged on my credit card although it says payment delivered. Everytime I try to call it says you need skype credit. It does not let me call and does not let anyone call me either. It says I need skype credit, but I have used this service before and never needed any. What is the point of paying 60 bucks a year!? An Online # is for your contacts to call you. You can't make calls from an Online #.
