Bought used Macbook, how do I clear it to make it MINE.

I bought a used macbook, how do I clear it and make it mine. It has snow leopard on it and I have disk for Snow Leopard cause I have a MacBook Pro.
I would like to erase everything and start new with it. It has a 80gb hard drive and I want to put only what I want on it.
Where can I get instructions on doing it? Also I would like to have a larger HD on it. Is it possible for me to replace the one it has? Also the battery is totaled and the machine has to be pluged in all the time. I am going to order another battery.
Any help I can get WOULD BE GREATLY appreciated.

Please note that a gray label installer for another model is machine specific. It may not work on this machine. Better to use the retail Snow Leopard DVD.
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
     1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
         with your computer. Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
         After the chime press and hold down the "C" key. Release the key when you see
         a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
     2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
         button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
         After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
         size.) Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. Set the number of
         partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
         and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
         (Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
     3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed
         with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
     4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
         Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
         username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
         Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
         install of OS X. You can now begin the update process by opening Software
         Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

I bought a used Macbook about a year ago and have loaded my entire photo library onto it. When in the appstore, i noticed iPhoto had updates available, and when i go to update it, it's trying to use the old owners Apple ID - and the user id is greyed out so I cannot override it. This is the only app i've ever had an issue with updating. Anyone have any ideas?

i would backup microsoft office then i would take the restore cds and completely restore the computer to its original state

Klaus1 is perhaps too brief if you have not done that before:
1. Put first DVD in the optical drive
2. restart and, immediately after chime, press C—this forces boot from CD/DVD, wait until you see Apple logo, then release C key
3. wait until you see the list of install languages, English is default, click ahead and now
4. Go up and choose Utilities, open Disk Utility, and choose to Erase/Format disk, as you wish
5. Close Disk Utilities and you will be redirected to installation proper
6. Go ahead according to what you see on the screen
If you do not have the two DVDs of any mac (bar the very recent ones, with Lion preinstalled), you must get a retail one, perhaps SL would be best or Lion, flash drive version directly. Booting from retail DVD is identical; for flash boot, press Option key after chime, then choose the USB flash disk, you will see it on the screen after several seconds.
The process is simple and logical, do not be afraid, you just need the install DVD or, beginning with Lion, Lion flash drive version. You may of course download the App Store version of Lion, which is at half price approx., but you need another mac to move it to another disk / flash drive in order to install it or do that before you erase the disk which, I understand, has a running system on it.

You have to erase the drive and reinstall under your ID etc.

Unless you bought those programs under your account they are not yours and you have no rights to use them, you will also be unable to upgrade or reinstall them.

Was using a PC now bought a macbook - how do I keep everything?

I have been using my touch on a normal PC, but it was being slow, so I bought a macbook. I love it, but have just gone to try and synch my touch and realised that of course I need to do something to transfer over all the stuff I had in itunes on my PC but i am not sure what... Please help a complete novice and please can you tell me in plain English because I need someone to spell out what to do...

Unfortunately you can't use an +iPod touch+ exactly as described because it doesn't have a disk mode but you can easily use CDs, DVDs, a USB memory stick or external hard disk in its place.

Bought Used macbook pro, don't have administrator password and don't have the OS disc. Is there a way I can reset or delete the password?

I recently bought a used macbook pro. I can pretty much do everything I need on it until I want to change setting and such things. Then it asks me for an administrator password which I do not know or have. On top of that I do not have the OS disc either. Is there a way I can SAFELY reset or delete the password so I can set my own without the possibility of screwing thing up. LIke I said I can do most anything. I figured this out when attempting to tether it to my smartphone for internet access (I do all the time from my desktop but my desktop is a PC so things are a little different) I am a very new mac user, I have always been a devoted PC user until now. I have to say I am really loving my macbook pro I may just stick with mac from now on (if I can get this problem figured out without too much stress.

There actually is a slightly easier way in OS X 10.5 or greater.
1. Start up in single-user mode (hold Command-S as the computer starts up).
2. Type: mount -uw /
3. Press Return.
4. Type this:
passwd (user's short name)
Replace "(user's short name)" with the short name of the user account whose password you wish to reset. If you are not sure what the account name is, you can get a list of user names by typing: ls /Users
5. Press Return.
6. Enter a new user password.
7. Press Return.
8. Type: reboot
9. Press Return.

I bought a used macbook pro but I can't update. It says I have 2 updates. When I try to update, I ckick update and the original owner's email address pops up but will not let me change to my email address and password. I tried downloading os x mavericks. You cannot remove the update notification. The only solution would be to remove those apps and do not install them anymore unless you buy them with your Apple ID.
If the apps you cannot update are iPhoto, iMovie and/or GarageBand, you should know that the first owner did not do things properly, because that could be solved simply by deauthorizing your Mac from the old owner's Apple ID. After doing that, you would be able to register the apps with your Apple ID and update them free of charge. If this is your case, contact with the old owner and tell him/her to contact with Apple to deauthorize the Mac > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
If the apps that require the update are other ones, remove them. You are not allowed to run them, so if you want to run them, buy them with your Apple ID

What you are entitled to is the MBP and the original OS that the MBP came with which is Lion and the associated applications.
In order to install Lion, you will have to boot your MBP with the OPTION COMMAND R keys held down. That will connect you to the Apple servers and they will check your MBP. A 4 option menu will appear. Select the Lion installation option and install Lion.
Now your MBP will be registered in your name and you may open your own Apple account. If you want Mt. Lion, then you will have to purchase it from the Apple online store.

Bought a macbook, how can I use the built-in isight?

Would anyone be able to give me advice on the above matter? As far as I found out I can take pics in photobooth, but are there other possibilities with the camera? I heard that you can videotape yourself also? (I am about to take an oral exam so I thought a little practice and see the presentation myself would help..)

Using JTextArea - How do I clear it?

Hi all.
I have written a GUI program which transfers data from a method to a JTextArea/JScrollPane upon a button ActionEvent.
When I press the "Next Record" button I want to be able to clear the previous details held in this JTextArea before I print the new ones in it. The Same for going backwards through an array. Does anybody know how to do this?
Currently I am using the append method to add the returned String to my JTextArea. I have also tried using a replaceRange(String, int, int) method to clear the box before printing new details, but this isn't working properly as each Record in the array contains a different String length, so I can not enter the int values for each specific object.
Below is the code for the application, and I've highlighted where I have used the methods to add a String to the JTextArea. I'm declaring the class for the action event within creating the actionListener, but can seperate it out if people need to see it more clearly.

I don't know, the Swing experts are in the Swing forum. but setText() is defined in TextComponent, which a JTextArea is.

Macbook doesn't come with any OS CDs, and I want to upgrade my iMac. I don't want to have to buy Lion again, since I already have it on my macbook. How do I get Lion on my iMac (along with iLife '11)?

Did you tap on the text msg icon (I'm assuming you're talking about text messages) and see if there was a button there which may give you a clue? When I open text message app, there's an Edit button. Do you have that? If so, that may be a good place to start.
