Bought Used Snow, It Wants a Password!

Hi,
I just bought my first airport base station for my ibook (which already has an airport card for business trips).
At home, I have cable internet and several router hubs (for other macs and xbox)
I bought the airport base used, and plugged it in to the wall, and ethernet cable from one of the hubs.
My ibook detects the "Apple Network 164293" in the airport setup admin. But when I try to connect, it asks for the password.
HELP! If the person before me had password protection for the base station, am I going to have to guess it??
how do I erase the darned password and start from scratch. I got no manual or directions with the unit.

Ok... I have been using my airport for awhile now and decided I, too, wanted to put a password on for my wireless internet. I've gone through the Airport Admin Utility like it says, it recognizes my airport and when I click on Configure, it'll let me put in a password but then tells me "An error occurred while reading the configuration."
I've done the reset 3 times now by pushing the paperclip into the bottom of the airport so the password is reset to "public" and tried adding the network password that way (as well as changing the 'public' password)
But... I still get an error message saying it wasn't able to complete the task. HELP PLEASE!!! It's so very frustrating
I have a macbook pro now but I still have the old airport (wasn't experiencing any problems until now...go figure) it still works great, connects, everything. All I wanted was a password!!

I got an iphone 4. I had to update my macbook pro to Lepard just to sync. I updated to lepard. Now when I try to sync itunes does not recognize my new iphone 4 as mine and wants to erase everything I have bought using the phone.

Nope - you cannot restore a backup from a newer iOS version on to a device running an older iOS version. The reverse works, but in your case to use your backup, you must update to iOS 7.0.3 - no other option if you want to use that backup.

For the last 4 months I can not send any mail from my mac mail account. It will receive but not send. I have to use my Yahoo or Gmail account to send anything. When I forward or try to send a new email, a box wants my password. IT won't take my password.

A box comes up after I try and send an email wanting my password. I put the password in, the box disappers, then shows up again empty wanting my password. The same password is used to access Apple but Mac Mail will not accept it. It just stop sending about four months ago.

It is possible that you are in a transition period of time when Apple is shutting down the mobileME website. In fact, Mobileme.com is closed at this moment. I can see where you might be receiving email traffic and yet being unable to send email out using the mobileme/ mac dot com emaill address. Check this article out from Gigaom.

If you own any verson of iPhoto '11 then there is a free update to version 9.5.x in the App store
If you own a previous version of iPhto (iPhoto '09 or earlier) then as always an upgrade to a new version (in this case iPhoto '11) is a paid upgrade and you purchase it in the App store
and no OS update/upgrade contains a version of iPhto - it is a seperate program and although it is included as part of every new Mac it is not a free program and never has been sinve version 1 or 2 (I forget when it changes)

Using Disk Utility, I select the disc image that contains the data that I want to backup to a DVD and select Burn. The program asks that a blank DVD be inserted. When I do that, no format pop-up appears as is indicated in the Help instuctions. If I procede with the burn, there is no password protection. Before I converted to Lion, I used to use Disk Utility to burn backup DVDs without any problems.

AFAIK, you create an encrypted disk image and burn that to DVD. There's nothing else to do, but I might be mistaken.

This worked for me on a MacBook from late 2008
1. boot computer and hold the "apple" key and the "s" key.
2. wait for terminal show
3. release keys
4. type without the quotes: "/sbin/mount -uaw"
5. press enter
6. type without the quotes: "rm /var/db/.applesetupdone
7. press enter
8. type without the quotes: "reboot"
9. press enter
This will let you create a new admin account when you reboot your computer.

Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Keychain Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.

You would have to sign in with your account. Be aware that an iDevice or Mac or PC can only be associated with a particular iCloud/ iTunes in the Cloud account once every 90 days. So if you associate your iTunes in the cloud/Match account with her iPhone ,she will have to wait 90 days before going back to HER itunes in the cloud account.

Why can't I use special characters in my password? This isn't 1995 anymore where a lot of people don't have QWERTY keyboards.

Why does your site not allow the use of special characters in passwords? Do you not want your customers to be as secure as possible?
As a network security admin, limiting passwords to prohibit special characters is an extremely poor security practice.
Telling me that my security as a customer is important, then tell me that your own system limits my ability to keep my account as secure as I would like seems quite backwards. I understand the archaic reasoning was that not all devices have a QWERTY keyboard, this logic is flawed and is no longer necessary.

Hi, sorry to hear that you are experiencing these problems, but sometimes a new machine (be it Apple, Dell, whatever) can be defective right out the box - its not unheard of.
If your machine came with defective hardware and is still under warranty (seems to be the case here) then you have nothing to lose taking it back to where you bought it and, if there really is defective hardware present I am sure they'll rectify the problem.
A small note: these problems are not manufacturer-specific - its pointless blaming the manufacturer as I can assure you this happens with ALL brands. Apple supplies quality hardware and software - I know of a user who has had a machine switched on since 1987 without problems

The odds are that you downloaded AirPort Utility 5.6.1.....which will only work with Leopard and Snow Leopard Macs.
Since your post indicates that you are using Lion 10.7.4, you need the correct utility for Lion. The link is below:

Bought used Iphone and can't download apps or sign in to iTunes

I bought my first iPhone from a friend over the weekend. Its an iPhone 4. Whenever I try and download and app I get a weird gmail account and it wants a password. I text my friend about it and she said to plug it into the computer and sync it with my iTunes account and it will wipe it clean. I did that and I am having the same problem. I can't even log into iTunes with my phone using my account. I went and got it acctivated with my carrier and have no problems anyplace else. Just trying to use apps and iTunes. How do I get rid of the gmail account on my phone?

I called and just got off the phone with Apple. They say iTunes is currently down and to try again in an hour or so...

Snow Leopard Guest Account Password Problems

After re-booting I found I was in the guest account. So after going into the accounts manager I clicked on my user account only to find it wants my password....but after entering it I get the shaker routine. After clicking on the padlock it won't recognize my password any more, so what to do now? I used my old Leopard disk to re enter the password, but it won't allow that either. I now have a Snow Leopard upgraded? machine which won't let me access it. What good is this thing now?
Soooo...what are my options? Is there a way to get back into my account? Do I just need to do a clean install? Can I get my saved data off Time Machine backups, even if I can't get to my original user account? HELP!

You can log into the admin account with the new login password you saved for it. You can then launch Keychain Access & change the password for that account's keychain to the same thing. Otherwise, every time you do something that requires a password saved in that keychain, you will be asked for the keychain's password.
There is nothing wrong with the utility app, just with your understanding of passwords & what they protect. The account's login password & those for any keychains it owns are different things & do not have to be the same -- they sometimes are not for increased security. For convenience, the default keychain is initially created with the account's password, but it isn't automatically reset to that value by the utility, again for security reasons.
You don't have to know this to follow the instructions Apple provides but if you want to learn more about it the built-in Help System provides that, or you can purchase a book like "Snow Leopard for Dummies" or one of the "Missing Manual" series for more in depth or simplified treatments of the subject.
