Bouncing icon in dock?

Anyone else had problems opening FreeHand MX? Just started
this morning (happily, the day AFTER I met the big
deadline).

Are you on a Mac or PC?
If on a Mac, first use Disk Utility to repair disk
permissions. If that
doesn't help, try the HotFix, available here:

  • Bouncing icons in dock

How do I stop my entourage dock icon from bouncing. I see posts on how to start the bouncing bugger, but none on how to stop it! Driving me nuts. Thanks.

I don't use Entourage, but there ought to be a preference setting within the program on how you want to be notified about new mail--as in "animate Dock icon when new mail is received"--that you can uncheck. At any rate, afraid the solution will be within the program itself. The only general system setting for bouncing Dock icons is whether you want them to bounce with the program launches or not.

  • Snow Leopard Mail - Bouncing Icon/Play Sound Rules Cancel Each Other Out

I recently saw a movie which featured many closeups of a MacBook Pro being used; every time the actor got an e-mail message, the Mail icon bounced in the Dock AND played the New Message Sound. In the current version of Snow Leopard Mail, you can create a Rule to 'Bounce Icon in Dock' when a new message is received. Unfortunately, this disables the New Message Sound. When the user adds another Rule to 'Play Sound', this rule disables the 'Bounce Icon in Dock' feature. At this point, both Rules display as being active, but only one of them works. Anyone know how to get both the New Message Sound AND the bouncing icon? (The actor was able to do it in the movie, but maybe that was just special effects.)

You can use both rules together (sound & bouncing)

  • Snow Leopard Mail - Bouncing Icon Rule Works Strangely

With most applications, when the icon bounces, the bouncing is stopped once the function it was notifying you about has been taken care of. This is not the case with Snow Leopard Mail. When a Rule has been created to 'Bounce Icon in Dock', the icon keeps bouncing, even after the message it was notifying you about has been selected and read. The user must then go back to the icon and click it to stop it from bouncing. It would be much more convenient and intuitive if the icon stopped bouncing after the messages have been read. Does anyone no of a way to configure Mail to do this?

  • Mail: Bouncing icon

    Hi folks -
I know this is going to be the stupid question of the week, but...
The bouncing mail icon is driving me insane. It bounces even when the messages are in the junk folder. I am perfectly content with the icon simply having the number of new messages, I don't need it to bounce.
I've tried disabling animated icons in the Dock preferences and turning off the new mail sound notification. No go.
Any ideas? What am I missing?
    Thanks,
    -Dan

    Dan,
Go to Mail>Preferences...>Rules and "Edit" or "Remove" any rules which exist at that location. I have a "Bounce Icon in Dock" rule which I believe was a default setting because I do not remember creating the rule from scratch.

  • Bounce Mail in Dock when New Mail arrives?

So I'm migrating over to Mail after 14+years on AOL mail and I'm wondering if there is a way to have the Mail application icon in the Dock bounce when a new email arrives, similiar to the way the AOL one does?

    Hello DuQuoi,
Just saw this message today when looking for an answer on something for myself and thought I'd respond. So sorry for the late response and if you've all ready found an answer, but at least for others looking to perform a similar action when new email arrives.
This can be done with a simple rule. I have mine set to "If all conditions are met", "Email is in <My Mailbox Name>", "Message is addressed to [email protected]" then "Bounce Icon in Dock".
My spam goes to a different folder on my email account so spam isn't caught by this.

  • Bouncing icon from hidden dock?

Normally I keep the dock automatically hidden at the bottom of the screen to save screen real estate, but I would like to be able to see the Mail icon bounce when new mail arrives. I do have a rule set up in Mail to bounce the Mail icon when a new message arrives, but when the dock is hidden, the bouncing icon remains invisible. Is there any way to make the bouncing icon visible even when the dock is hidden?

I have never used the bouncing icon rule, but I will see what happens. I just set it for one of my accounts. I have the dock hidden as well.
This is the exact opposite of people who do not want icons bouncing when the dock is hidden, such as software update or other such events.

  • Dock not re-appearing after hiding and no bouncing icons...

I thought that re-installing the OS from scratch would get rid of some of the bugs in Leopard ... but it seems that I was wrong.
I normally have my dock hidden. Under Tiger this was no problem because whenever I moved the mouse to the bottom of the screen the dock would instantly show up again ... like it is supposed to.
But sometimes in Leopard it does not show up at all unless I actually click the mouse button while I have the mouse at the bottom of the screen.
I also have programs like Mail and Adium bounce when I get messages and such. Again, under Tiger everything worked fine and I could see the bouncing icons while the dock was hidden. But in Leopard it only seems to work half the time and I only see the bouncing icons when I move the mouse to the bottom of the screen to reveal the dock (and half the time I have to ... you guessed it ... click the mouse to get it to show)
Even the 10.5.1 update didn't do a thing to address this issue. This combined with the bugs found in Safari and Mail makes this a very buggy update to say the least. I'm loathed to say it ... but I had less problems with Vista. I cant believe Apple would actually release this update as it is.
Anyone else have these annoying little problems with the dock?

Can't say I do as dock is working fine for me.
But, have you tried to play with the dock preferences, changing them to something different, then back again to the settings you like, and then see if the problems persist?
If that does not work, try to locate in user/library/preferences the document com.apple.dock.plist, drag to desktop and delete. Then restart your computer, reset your dock preferences and see if the problems persist.
    hope this helps

  • Icon just bounces on the dock

Safari 6.0.5 icon sometimes just bounces in the dock while other browser opens and access internet no problem. Need to force quit to stop it.

Drag the Safari icon up and off the Dock. It will go, "poof" ..
Then launch Safari from the Applicatiions folder.
Then click the new Safari icon in the Dock, click Option > Keep in Dock
Make sure you don't have a Safari alias icon on your Desktop.

  • I'm running an EMAC 10.3.9. Icon bounces in the dock but then quits. It has been suggested it is a Plug-in problem. Help

Firefox was working fine. Then 3 days ago it started this issue. Spoke to Apple and re-installed the 2.0.0.20 verison - no go. Always starts the same. Bounces in the dock then the top bar shows Firefox, and the list of columns: File Edit View - Bookmarks etc. Then just stops. Message appears: The application firefox -bin has unexpectedly quit. Asks do I wnat to send a message to Apple.
Apple suggests a P{lug-in problem. Suggestions. Rick

  • AE CS4 bounces in the dock and won't open

    Hi guys,
I already read this other post
but my problem is slightly different: I had installed a trial version of CS4 Master Collection, now I purchased the license so I uninstalled the older version and run the Cleanup Script.
Well, so after the install of the CS4 Master Collection (and also installed all the updates before opening apps), everything works fine but After Effects just bounces in the dock once and then won't open at all.
This is the message in the console:
/System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework/Versions/A/Support/LaunchCFMApp[1194] Launch failed with error code - 2857 (cragCFragRsrcErr) for application /Applications/Adobe After Effects CS4/Adobe After Effects CS4.app/Contents/MacOS/After Effects
    and then
([0x0-0xb20b2].com.adobe.AfterEffects[1194]) Exited with exit code: 215
The curious thing is, if I hit command+shift+G in finder, writing
    /Applications/Adobe After Effects CS4/Adobe After Effects CS4.app/Contents/MacOS/
an invisible folder opens under the CS4 app and from there I can run an executable Unix document called After Effects that opens terminal and After Effects application without problems.
What's the explaination for that ?
Please I'm going crazy let me know what can I do to fix this!!
    Thanks in advance
    Simone

Sounds like your original dock item was linked to the previous installation. Delete it, launch AE from the applications folder, select the item int hte dock and Leave In Dock.
The item in your app folder is not a Unix.exe, it's probably just an unassigned icon. All unassignede itmes look like .exe.
