Bouncing Troubles - Too Soft

Whenever I bounce out of Logic, the overall volume of the track is very mild. I set the output 1-2 right where i want it- hot- and it doesn't seem to make any difference...
There's prolly a setting I have to adjust...?
Help anyone please!

Most FAQ No. 2 i guess.
Modern Pop Music usually is heavily compressed to achieve a good loudness while maintaining the maximum possible digital level, wich is 0 (Zero) db. Going over Zero db, which was no problem when recording to tape or other analog media, causes digital music to clip instantly, which is very bad.
Problem: If you loudest part (or let's say: The loudest spike in your whole song) is at 0db, then the average music level may be well below that, causing the whole song to appear soft and without punch.
So, to get the overall level up to a good value without clipping the spikes and louder parts, you must introduce a compressor and, as the very last plugin in the chain of plugins, a hard limiter.
The compressor lifts up the overall loudness (Gain knob), but reduces the volume of the parts that are louder than a certain treshold (let's say treshold at -15db). With the Ratio knob, you can adjust how much the sound is compressed for each decibel above the treshold. Set Ratio to 1:2 or 1:3 to start with.
The Limiter is a compressor with an infinite ratio, which means that every spike that crosses the treshold is forced to stay there and not go beyond it. Set the Limiter to -1db or 0db.
Then bounce with normalize set to "on" and see, err hear for yourself.

  • Classical Music too soft

I have an issue with the classical music I've gotten off of iTunes for my iPod. It's just too soft. Using the "Sound Check" feature doesn't help as it only compresses the signal so it's all soft.
It's even more noticeable with the Belkin iPod system I just put in my Scion. It's cool because I can change songs with the iPod in the glove box, but on the classical music, I can turn the stereo up to "Max" and barely hear it. I'm about ready to have them take the Belkin system out.
    Any ideas?

No, my volume limiter isn't on. It's at full volume, but that doesn't matter with the Belkin system.

  • Lumia 800 - Ringtone and vibration is too soft

I just got the lumia 800 for 2 days.
I found that the ringtone volume is too soft and the vibration is not strong enough (in adddition with the problem of once start vibration in incoming call).
I hope some update can help fix this problems.

I would not be so sure about that..

My vibration is also quite weak, though it's quite OK when you run the vibration diagnosis.. ##634# or something like that..

  • When I share a garageband file to itunes the volume is way too soft.

I don't know what I did. Suddenly everything I export to iTunes comes out way too soft compared to files I have exported before. My master volume seems to be set right, it plays loud enough in GB, my export settings are set to Auto Normalize, compression is on, my volume in iTunes is turned up - I'm at a loss here. Please help!

  • Volume is too soft.

The volume on my iPod is too soft.  I've tried different headphones, but I have to have it at maximum level to hear the music.  I have tried resetting all the settings, but it did not work.

I have found playing from the headphone jack plays softer on car stereos and what not and while with earbuds I tend to use the volume around 1/3, when playing in my car I have to play the volume on the iPod up to about 80-90% to get "normal" levels.
So have you tried simply cranking up the volume on the iPod itself first?
When you play out of the dock connector, this doesn't work because it is a line level output and the iPod's volume control doesn't do anything. But when playing out of the headphone jack, the iPod's volume can be and should be adjusted up high.

  • Dynamics audio effect glitchy. Audio plays back too softly.

    PP 7.1.0
    Mac OS X 10.8.4
Basic timeline. Three tracks of audio. One of the tracks is playing back VERY quietly. This track has a dynamics effect applied, with only the "limiter" function checked on (at -3db). Audio on this channel plays back too softly. A restart of premiere fixes the problem for a few moments, but then its back to soft again. Playing the clip in the source monitor plays it back at the correct volume. Turning the effect off altogether also plays the audio at the original (louder) volume - albeit minus the limiter. The waveform itself is plenty loud. But when the effect is engaged, the clip suddenly plays back about 15db quieter than it should.
    Any ideas?

    Hi T-MACK,
This may not be much help but I had the same problem. Inspection showed that I'd inadvertantly set the camera on long play when shooting the footage. It seemed fine when importing into imovie but playback appeared to be double speed. I posted a question on this forum but couldn't get a satisfactory solution. Re-setting the camera and reimporting didn't help. However, I borrowed a friends camcorder and reimported the same video from that. It worked. I can't see why but it did.
Perhaps sommeone will come up with a better answer.

  • MP4 video volume too soft at client end

Using 5.5 I have been creating a series of modules published in Mp4 format for a client.
I have had to change a copyright statement on the title screen of modules that were publioshed and signed off some time ago.
Now when I re-publish them the client tells me the volume is too soft and they need to have 100% setting on head set volume to hear it very softly.
I haven't changed any settings - the volume at this end remains good and the client can hear other audio sources just fine.
    Any ideas?

No-one has been able to resolve this so far.
Since posting I have published various versions of a test project using MP3 and Wav audio, from a head set and a Yeti USB mic - direct into Captivate as well as recorded in Audacity and imported into Captivate (Version 5.5).
Thge quality of the recording obvioulsy varies but the volume is consistent to the settings.
I have imported it into Drop box - my usual method of delivery to the client and tested on a separate machine - all seems fine
However when I ask a colleague to check it out the volume is far too soft and even at full settings both within the MP4 player skin as well as on the compyter settigns it is only just sufficient.
    Anyone any ideas ...please

  • SOUND IS TOO SOFT IN ML 10.8.2

not sure why - but many audio sources seem too soft....
audio is up all the way in main apple menu
    - itunes is too soft with volume maxed out
    - many you tube vids are too soft when page vol is maxed
    - and more
    - swapped earbuds with several brands - all too soft
any way to check max APPLE vol for 10.8.2 with macbook?

Trash the sound plist file which is found in your HOME preference folder.  Afterwards, repair permissions and restart your computer.  Empty the trash.  Another plist file will be recreated.  Or consider purchasing external speakers.

  • Screen too soft..easily scratches?

I have had my Sony Xperia Tablet Z now for just a few weeks. It's my first tablet after many years of owning smart phones. I have never needed a screen protector on any of my devices. The standard materials used on my devices have always coped with my normal use and not resulted in any noticeable permanent scratch marks on their screens.
It is with utter disappointment that I noticed this morning that my Sony Tablet Z, after just 3 weeks of careful use, has permanent scratches all over the screen surface . I noticed these by holding the tablet at an angle to a light source while switched off.
My real concern is that I have so many scratches after careful handling and only 3 weeks of use, the tablet hasn't even left the house yet. I paid for the confidence that comes with the Sony brand having owned many Sony products over the years and found them to be durable and reliable and built using quality materials. That confidence has been damaged now since I believe the material used for the screen on this tablet to be too soft to cope with normal use where other devices from other manufacturers have coped just fine.
I have heard that the glass screen is scratch resistant but that Sony place a soft film over the top holding the Sony logo which is not resistant. Is this true? If so, is it possible to remove it to expose the hard durable glass surface underneath?
I am intending to return the product and get a replacement and buy the screen protector, but this will be the first device i have owned that has needed this and in my opinion something Sony need to review to improve product quality. Since most smart phone and tablets come with gorilla glass (or equivalent) as standard I assumed this was the case.. it sadly appears not and looks like a screen protector is an absolute must for this device.
I would be interested to hear if others have experienced screen damage after just a few weeks of normal use too?
There are also major supply issues in the UK for accessories for this tablet as of July 2013. I ended up leaving the tablet behind on a business trip to Switzerland because I was unable to source a case for it in the UK only to find that a Sony Centre in Switzerland had plenty in stock. No screen protectors were available either.
Other than that and a few YouTube lockups I have found the tablet to be meeting and exceeding all my expectations. Just wish Sony had put gorilla glass on it.

Sorry to hear that you've got scratches on your tablet.
The display on the tablet uses the same solution as most of our phones, a scratch-resistant glass with an anti shatter film (ASF) on top. The ASF is made of plastic and is not as scratch-resistant as the glass.
I do not recommend that you remove the ASF (doing so would also void the warranty for the display and the ASF can't be replaced). It's recommended that you put a screen protector on top of the ASF.
I've tried to scratch my tablet using my fingernails but even though i press so hard that my fingers hurt it doesn't leave a mark. You must have really strong fingernails

  • Bouncing Trouble

I am having a problem with Logic Pro version 7.2.3
When I bounce audio, there is twenty seconds of silence in the begining of the track, and the last twenty seconds of the audio intended to be bounced is missing. I have checked to make sure that the bounce positions are indicated correctly in the bounce window. Please help!!!!
    Thanks... Joshua

I believe Logic has a bug where it deoes not adequately manage things at the start of bounce. Logic starts to load everything to process audio when it encounters the physical beginning of the file in arrange window. But if actual audio starts too close to the beginning of the file, then depending upon the processing load, Logic can lose processing audio because it is not done starting everything up to process the file (and this can also skew where Logic thinks the file ends). This may result in glitches/noise at the beginning of a bounced file.
So you can try and workaround this by using (or padding) the beginning of our audio files with silence to give Logic enough time to start its audio processing. (You will probably want to edit this extra silence out of the start of the bounced file when you ae done).
If your audio file already has an extra meausre of silence at the start, then tell bounce to start from there. So say your audio file actually starts to rise from zero amplitude at measure 1 1 1 2 and the file physically begins at measure 0 1 1 1. Then tell bounce to start at 0 1 1 1 (or maybe it would work from 1 1 1 1).
I could understand that this padding might sometimes be necessary to do for real-time bouncing. But when real-time bounce munges the beginning of a file, offline bounce can still do the same. Logic should always be able to throttle resources in offline bounce to make sure everything is loaded before the audio actually starts.
Its really sad that this is one of many important things that have been neglected in Logic for a long time, e.g., SRC, full delay compensation, dynamic load balancing, no support for read/write of 32 bit float files, etc.

  • Title Tool - text rendring too soft/blury

    Hi,
used the Premiere Title Tool occasionally and always got to soft/blury text rendering - it seems optimal for old CRT tubes and interlaced video but looks bad on a 1080p 4:4:4 timeline
If for example I want to add some Text to a imported Photoshop PSD title it doesn't match - because the Premiere Title Tool added text looks soo blurry and washed out compared to the text from the PSD title...
hmm - don't found any setup properties to turn off blurring or something like that...

    Hi,
thanks for your replys... so it's a real thing that the title tool is rendering very softly...
--> No it's not a preview thing - I'm on MPE GPU mode and don't render previews.
--> I output my sequences to 2K JPEG2000 in 4:4:4 mode (D-Cinema) so titels have to be crisp and sharp - but even for a Bluray output that's too much antialiasing.
The titel tool is handy if I want to add some words to a existing title or insert some "PRESS COPY" overlay or something like that.
Question: Is there a hidden setup value for antialiasing to tweak?

  • IPod Audio too soft when hooked up to car???

iPod touch audio is soft when I hook it up to my car audio jack.  I have to turn up the car volume almost to max! I have checked the volume level settings on the iPod...no change?

You should post your question over in the iPod Touch forum (this is iPhone).

  • Volume Issues - Too Loud & Too Soft

This is a problem I've had for awhile now. It's getting unbearably frustrating. Volume issues, where the default value for sound ranges outside what the iPhone should be capable of doing. So for example if the volume goes from 0% to 100%, my phone will be completely random and range from -50% to 150%.
How can it be less then 0% you might ask, when moving the slider mid way the volume is completely off and any lower doesn't make a difference, then I'll receive an email notification and BAM the volume goes up 300% and it's so loud it feels like the speaker is going to explode. This problem happens at any time but mostly after or while using headphones or car bluetooth.
Example of my issue in action, I'll plug AUX in the car into the phone, play music, driving along, randomly goes to half volume. I'll turn up the stereo to compensate, one minute later I'll get an email and the volume resumes to normal operating volume and I almost sh** my pants in fright.
Another example is I'll be watching a video late at night before bed on youtube or something with the volume all the way down, then the next morning my phone alarm will not sound or it will but insanely softly. The work around for this is to play music right before locking my phone with the volume up all the way. Just move the volume up all the way, play > pause and there you have it, volume working agian.
And one last example, randomly it goes really really loud. Like how is this possible loud. I'll dial a number and when pressing the buttons instead of a beep beep beep. I get fog horn BEEEEEEP BEEEEP BEEEEP. But as soon as the call starts the volume sets itself back to normal. Kind of like how when playing music without head phones with volume on max sets it back to normal.
    Things you should note:
Ringer volume has been locked to maximum, but quite often won't abide by this rule.
I've reset the phone and setup as new iPhone, problem still occurs.
Please don't give a solution like, "Have you checked your sound volume in settings". I'm not stupid.
Also, please don't give a solution unless you understand the difference between "Notification and Tone Volume" and "Media Volume".
Other then that. Please help, this is driving me mental.

I recently did the last firmware upgrade for my ipod nano 5th gen and can't set the maximim limit.
It can be set, but wont stick and I can still go above the limit.
Did something break with the firmware upgrade.
