Boundary lines showing in PDF

I hope this is the right place to post this. If not, would someone tell me the best forum on which to post it?
Some of my finished PDFs have boundary lines showing around--or sometimes even within--text boxes filled with color. The files were created in InDesign CS4 (same problem happened with CS3, however), and I've tried making PDFs all three ways (using the utility within ID, using Acrobat Pro 9, or using Distiller 9). I can eliminate the lines around the text box by using the "create outlines" command, but nothing I do in ID takes away any lines that appear within the text box.
I have also tried using different settings on Distiller (X1-a, standard, high quality, etc.). "Standard" and "Smallest file size" take away the lines.
Any suggestions and/or explanations would be much appreciated!

Please repost this to the appropriate InDesign forum. Your question has nothing to do with the "PDF Language and Specifications" but rather, issues associated with flattening transparency within InDesign and yielding a suboptimal PDF file.

My feeling is that LSI (and many other printers) specify Distiller PDF
as their only legitimate source because it's easier for them to specify
and support one (pretty good, BTW) source. They don't want to have to
test, support, and specify all of the many different PDF sources. If it
was a matter of choosing between Distiller and Indesign, they would
probably choose Indesign, but books are made in many other programs,
some of which have PDF export capability, and Distiller has quite a few
competitors as well (Jaws is the one that I can remember, but there are
quite a few others, some of which are pretty cheesy).

  • Weird Lines showing in PDF at certain Zooms

I created this layout in InDesign. When I print to PDF, I can see the outlines of an object's container (the pink line on the left) over another object (the brown silhouette on left). Sometimes I can see both lines when I zoom in to 150% in Adobe Acrobat, sometimes I can only see 1 line when I zoom in to around 200%. Is this going to print like this? Of course my deadline is tomorrow.

First of all, you should never “print to PDF.” The PostScript produced as an intermediate product is not designed for PDF production. The resultant PDF file has no color management, may have image resolution issues, and no live transparency.
You should always export PDF. And you should use either the PDF/X-4 settings or the High Quality Print settings.
Very likely, the funky things you are seeing are artifacts of transparency flattening, a process that occurs when producing PostScript for printing from InDesign.
Try properly producing PDF from InDesign via export and let us know whether the problem persists.

    Hi skt102711,
I would like to inform you that acrobat doesn't support .epub to .pdf format conversion. Please browse this Link for more information : Supported file formats | Acrobat, Reader

  • Thin white lines showing around shapes

When I open a logo created in Illustrator in other programs such as acrobat or photoshop there are thin white lines showing around every object! Even on the inside of the surronding lines of an area colored using the live paint bucket (black area surrounden by black lines). I see no lines in Illustrator and there is no "stroke" on these objects (only fill). I have tried to save it to different formats (ai, eps and pdf because I want to keep it vectorized) but it doesn´t help. What can I do?

They don't print. Search the Knowledgebase for "stitching" for an explanation.

  • Invisible Lines showing on Export

    Hello,
I have done quite a bit of research before posting this however if I missed an article about it feel free to link me. I have designed artwork that uses lots of colors and lines. Everything was pretty much designed with lines and shapes and then I used live paint to paint in certain sections. The artwork looks perfect when exported as a GIF and it appears fine in Illustrator. The problem happens when I export the document as a PDF. When I export it as a PDF, tiny white lines show up where I have invisible lines in Illustrator. These invisible lines were put there in the first place so I could have set regions for the live paint without them showing. I'm not sure why they are showing up when I export.
I have tried multiple PDF settings and also tried flattening the layers and attempting to use Transparency Flattener Presets and export it as a PDF 1.3 but it is still greyed out in the export options when I try.
I've attached a screenshot of the PDF after it has been exported to see the lines. You will notice black lines and thicker white lines (like the one at the top), these are intentional. the ones that are undesired is the thin one near the bottom whre you can see theres a break point in color and then multiple ones going up. Deleting these with live paint selection, expanding the art, using direct selection tool to delete all ruin the art flow or do not work.

    How it looks in illustrator:
    Thanks!

    They appear at any zoom.
The last one is how it appears in Illustrator.
These are going to be printed for cover art and more material but as of now I need a nice PDF to send out so it can be zoomed in.
Interesting enough, I just checked on another computer using Adobe Acrobat Reader, and to your point they do not show up. So it appears they are only showing up when I view the PDF on my Mac using Preview. I also viewed it in Safari and Chrome and they showed up there as well.

  • Slices/lines in saved pdf files

Hi, I've been saving my pdf files from illustrator cs5 and every once in a while the saved pdf shows these lines slicing through parts of the image. They kind of look like the box outlines when you select an object in illustrator. I didn't think they would show up in the final prints but they did. Makes it look like someone scratched the image or something. Weird.
Anyways I made the image in illustrator a bit smaller, and it came out nicer when I printed as pdf that time, but if I zoom out a bit the lines show up again, so I don't know if it's going to show up again if I have it printed. I'm using expensive paper so I don't want to trial and error this any further if it can be avoided.
    Thanks.

Please repost in the Illustrator forum. Your question doesn't not concern Workflow issues.

  • Black lines show up on final print

In CS4 when ever I save to PDF and try to print my document these horizontal black lines show up.  They are most notable around areas with varying transparency.
This happen to anyone else? Any ideas?

Is your print head clean and are you using the right paper? Sounds like it's simply spitting too much ink on the paper and it smears... also reset your printer driver settings, if you used some "Saturation" tweaks. This will increase the amount of ink used and further the issue.

  • Transparency set as overlay won't show in .pdf

First of all, I'm not completely sure that this question isn't really for Adobe Acrobat.  Also, I am using CS5 with Windows 7.
I have drawn grey lines to cross out text in my book.  The 100% lines were too dense for the characters to show through, so I went to Object\Effects\Transparency, set the transparency at 75% on Overlay.  None of this came through on the .pdf I am now checking before I make a final .pdf that will go to press.  The .pdf was generated via Ctrl-E as a high-quality print doc.
The grayscale is at 35%, and when I bumped it up to 50%, none of the lines showed up this way, either.  My grayscales are really a form of black, too, as I did a Separations preview.
My book has two layers, and both are active.  And in the Print dialog box has a check mark at "Print non-printing objects."
I am really sad that these somewhat transparent lines won't show!  Any ideas as to what I can do to make them happen?  I do have a Plan B without them, but I'd really like them in there if it's possible.
Sigh....and I wanted to submit the book files today......  Well, I'll keep going on my final review and hope to hear from someone soon.
    Thanks.

Although I created a new file and dropped all those text boxes and lines in, the original file did in fact start out in ID3.
I thought that might be the case. This is very typical of the kind of problem people are reporting when directly converting legacy .indd files in CS5 and later, and often the problems don't show up until output, like this. Sometimes they're fatal, too.
I've never had an issue with one of my own files, so I don't know waht riggers this, but I no longer even consider opeing legacy files in new versions. Instead I export to .inx (CS4 or earlier) or .idml and convert that. You might be able to rescue this file by exporting to .idml, opening it in CS4 if you can find a copy, exporting to .inx, open that in CS3, re-export to .inx and open that in CS6. I didn't try that, so I don't know if it will work. If I get a chance, though, I will. There will probably be text re-flow issues, though after the conversions.

  • How to show a PDF with a JSF jsp.

    Hello,
I want to show a PDF in a JSF jsp.
I'm a newbie with this, and don't know where to look for information about that.
Any example on the web ?
    Thanks in advance

I think you will need to eventually get it to the HTML <object> tag anyway.
    <OBJECT data="yourPDFhere.pdf" type="????""/>
and to get the byte[] to the client you may need to make a Servlet to respond to *.pdf requests and feed the correct session 'in memory' pdf out the stream.

  • Horizontal lines on a pdf

I have some pdfs that were created from an
image file (cal) using MaxView. When viewed on my
old computer (Acrobat 7.0) the pdf apears fine. When view on my new computer
which has Adobe 9 there are 6 evenly spaced horizontal lines. They also
show up on printed copies. Is there a setting I need to change to correct this problem.

Me too! Just yesterday, Aug. 4!
I get horizontal lines about 0.4 inches apart on the prints, but no lines on the PDF on the monitor. They just show up on the print.
It happened the day I ran malware and virus scans in the morning.
It only affects prints from PDFs created by SolidWorks.  WORD documents print fine.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled my HP printer software.
I did the repair for Adobe reader 9.3.3
I even changed my ink cartridges that were low.
    What else can I try?
What caused this? Is it because our names are Paul?
I tried to contact Adobe without spending $39, but was unsuccessful. I thought maybe they would like to know about problems. Is the forum the only way to do that?

In Mail, the "From" line shows the wrong name associated with my email ID. I've looked over preferences and account information but have not found where I can update it.

There isn't an email address associated with the contact name who appears as the "from" in Mail. It used to be a shared email address and I already had updated the contact to list only the phone number in case that was causing the problem.

  • How to show a pdf file in bi publisher report

    Hi All,
We need to show a pdf file as report which was saved in a given location. How to call that pdf file as report. We need to give a hyperlink in the report and when we click on the report the pdf file should be displayed.
When we open a report, there will be just hyperlinks to call serveral reports. When we click on each link , one should call a pdf saved in a particular location.
    Thanks.

In Word, if you have set the borders on then you should see them in the output. In Word it has a setting to let you see 'gridlines' even if they are not set ie you have turned the borders off. Highlight the table and set all the borders on and re-try. If that fails, try building the table from scratch and copy the cell contents across to the new table

  • How can I show a PDF in a browser when it has XFDF data?

I need to show a PDF file with data, this data is a XFDF file. So the process works in my machine I open the XFDF and automatically the PDF appears with a data. The problem is when I make this process in a web environment, the HTML page does not show anything.
I have 2 files: the PDF is TestForm1.pdf and the XFDF is TestForm1.xfdf.
I can embed an empty PDF, and it works:
    <object type="application/pdf" data="TestForm1.pdf" width="300" height="200"></object>
But following (with the XFDF) does not work:
    <object type="application/vnd.adobe.xfdf" data="TestForm1.xfdf" width="300" height="200"></object>
The code of my XFDF file is:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <xfdf xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/xfdf/" xml:space="preserve"> <f href="TestForm1.pdf"/> <fields>      <field name="Name_UeSd4O*CXTlIKGfP8CI1Lg">      <value>Aaron</value>      </field> </fields>      <ids original="F76AE09E68036941A6318DF3754A9CD1" modified="4FB18F258D7B8F4699CCCF49538E852F"/> </xfdf>
Please I need help or guide about this issue. Regards.

Please see the support article below:
[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/view-pdf-files-firefox-without-downloading-them#w_using-a-pdf-reader-plugin Using a PDF reader plugin]

    Hi,
Are the PDF files showing with the PDF icon or other icons in your local disk?
Please start Outlook in sate mode and test again. To do this, press Windows key + R to open the Run command, type
    outlook /safe and press Enter.
In addition, you may also try to clean out the Temporary Outlook Files folder to check the result. See:
