My iPhone was stolen and the perpetrator continues to power the phone on and off at his own will. I am tracking it with iCloud but they never leave it on for more than a few seconds. Is there a way I can power it on from iCloud?

No, it cannot be powered on remotely.

  • My Iphone 3gs wont charge, turn on, or restore itself in Itunes, but the apple logo still appears when I hold the sleep botton.  How can I make my Iphone work????

My Iphone 3gs wont charge, turn on, or restore itself in Itunes, but the apple logo still appears when I hold the sleep botton.  How can I make my Iphone work????  I know it is not dead because I can see the apple logo on, and every time I connect it to a USB port to charge, or a wall charger, the battery appears with a bit of red. Still, it wont turn on.  It's been like this for three days now and I haven't stopped charging it.  IT just WONT charge?  Any tips I can use to solve the issue?

    Hello estebie67,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like the iPhone is experiencing issues upon startup, and may not be loading the firmware or operating system correctly. If you have not already done so, try resetting the iPhone while connected to power:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
If the above does not resolve your issue, it will be best to restore the iPhone in recovery mode:

  • IPhone 5 Unable to be Restored

Yesterday, my six-month old iPhone 5 randomly stopped responding (black screen). The Home / Power buttons did not trigger any response from the device, even when attempting a reset. I tried plugging the device into my PC, to no avail. I then plugged the device directly into an outlet and tried the reset again, which worked. The phone rebooted and all was well. I plugged the phone into my PC again, using it periodically throughout the night and upon waking up this morning, I encountered the same issue. This time, everything I've tried has failed. After several reset attempts, the device is now demanding I complete the restore process.
Unfortunately, it's taken me several hours to get the restore process to even start, having received several errors ranging from 4005, 4013, 4014 and "device not found". My most recent attempt finally appeared to be working however, iTunes displays "Waiting for iPhone" and the progress bar displayed on the phone itself has not moved at all in the last 90 minutes. My iCloud storage is approximately 1.5 GB, and with a 40 MB connection, I shouldn't be having any issues.
I've looked at about two dozen support articles, so I don't believe there is anything that can be linked to that will be of any use. I've updated iTunes, updated my Windows OS, rebooted my system, etc, etc, etc.
I'm currently using update 7.1.1, as it initially prompted me to update to 7.1.2 upon doing the restore. I'm assuming this update has caused this device failure (unsurprisingly).
At this point, I'm lost as to what to try. I refuse to pay the ridiculous prices Apple charges to fix malfunctions not caused by the user. I essentially need to pay them to tell me "yep, it's junk", which is silly.

    Hey Orbit Storm,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing a few issues with your iPhone 5. It sounds like you were able to get the iPhone working again after following the power-related steps in this resource (resetting while connected to power):
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
I also see that you received a few error messages when attempting to restore your device. I imagine you may have already looked up these error messages, but just in case here they are:
    iOS: Restore errors 4005, 4013, and 4014
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5314
At this point, it sounds like the device is stuck in the restore process. If this issues still persists, you may want to try restoring your device with another computer/usb cable and also using recovery mode:
If you can't update or restore your iOS device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
    Thanks,

  • Iphone not working fully when charging

When charging my iphone freezes a lot until un plugged. I can not answer calls ETC also my alarm is now super quiet but it is not the speakers as if i play the ipod it is fine.
    Any ideas?

    Hi £orind@,
If you haven't already done so, does resetting the iPhone help the issue? You may want to reset it while connected to power.

If not, you may want to restore your iPhone using a computer with iTunes. Please be sure to backup your iPhone first.

  • My Iphone 4S doesn't turn on after IOS 7 updates

    Hei guys,
I have an iphone 4S. Few days before the release of IOS7 I managed to download the beta version to my iphone. Everything was going fine until the first update of IOS7. It shuted up completelly. I manage to make it alive again, but today, it got ran out of battery and now I can't turn it on any more. I tried quite a few things. My Itunes recognizes the iphone when I plug it onto my computer, however, everytime I press the hold buttom, it doens't turn on. I've tried holding home and hold buttom as well, but everything I have is a weird screen with a big sort of finger print white in the middle of a black screen.
Do you guys know what I can do in order to solve the problem? I've restored and resetted the iphone as well, but it insists in not turning on.
Thank you guys for your attention
    Leandro

    Hi Enriquedelgado35,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  This article has steps you can take if your iPhone won't turn on without being connected to power:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
    Cheers,
    - Ari

  • Can anyone tell me the mAh needed for the iPhone 5?

I am looking to purchase an Emergency USB cell phone charger and want to make sure there is enough power (but not too much) in the device.  I can't seem to find the answer yet???  I purchased one and it did not say anything about how much power it has but it did say it will work with the iPhone 5.  I should know better than to believe something that an after-market manufacturer posted but I was hopeful.  It worked from 0 battery to 12% and then said "not compatible with this phone" (or something like that).
I am not knowledgeable about power, iPhones, horse training and many other things , but I hope to learn on this forum since I just bought my first iPhone and am trying to figure all this out.  I need to be able to carry a power source with me when I am away from electrical outlets and such.
Any input is mucho appreciatedo!   Thanks!

Thanks Peter, but what I am looking for is something like http://www.amazon.com/Portable-Battery-Powered-Emergency-Flashlight/dp/B003ZUPDR 2.  I would like an external pack that takes batteries and can be quickly used to recharge my iPhone 5.  There are a lot of them like this one on the market but I need to figure out the power specifics needed for the iPhone 5.  I will also be buying these for gifts for about 45 people for an event this summer so I am doing the testing with my iPhone and hoping to find something like this.

  • 4 out of 5 devices connect to Time capsule. Last one to try to connect fails to connect, no matter which device it is.

Prior to problem: All 5 devices (iMac, Mac Air, iPad and (2) iPhone 4) were surfing wirelessly on Airport express.
    Replaced AE with Time Capsule.
Problem: Wife's iPhone could not connect to T.C. Other 4 devices connect without problem. Wife's iPhone can surf other wireless networks. After doing a total shut down of all devices and restart of each, starting with 3rd party router, then T.C., then each device one at a time... wife's iPhone can connect, but Mac Air can not. Observed that in each case, the one that can't connect is the last one to be restarted and attempt to connect. Did this a 3rd time. I chose my iPhone to be the last to try to connect . My iPhone can't connect but all other devices are connected. Every case: last to connect can't connect.
Steps taken before realizing it was the "last device to try connecting" (back when I thought it was simply my wife's iPhone): Wifi Off/On. "Forget Network." Reset Network Settings. Power iPhone Off/On. Power T.C. Off/On. Turned T.C. wireless security Off/On. All these were done multiple times.
It appears there is no hardware issue since all are capable of connecting to T.C., just not at the same time. I don't know much about protocols and addresses. Could it be that T.C. is fouling up the assignment of an address or channel or route or whatever to the 5th device that tries to connect? Is the 5th device left without a address, channel or route to the T.C.?
My security is WPA2 Personal. It's on. The password is alphanumeric 9 characters. On my iPhone that can't connect, the satus wheel is spinning continuously beside my network's name. Tapping the blue arrow for more info shows the window that has "Forget this network" at the top, followed by DHCP, BootP and Static. DHCP is selected. The following fields are listed: IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router, DNS, Search Domain and Client ID. Most times, all of these fields are blank. Right now, the first two fields are filled in. IP address starts with 169 and subnet mask is 255.255.0.0
    Please help.

Right now, the first two fields are filled in. IP address starts with 169 and subnet mask is 255.255.0.0
That is auto IP and means the device was not able to pick up an IP from the dhcp server.
I am scratching my head.. it is not one I have seen with Mac stuff or on these columns since I started answering questions.. it is seen in mixed environments fairly often that stuff doesn't play nice with each other. But Mac - Apple has shown fairly consistent wireless functionality.
Is the TC brand new? Did you ring Apple and ask if they can sort it?
When you are using 100% apple environment, to me that is their job to figure out.
For what you can do, I would try and flash the TC back to 7.5.2 firmware. I have heard people say the latest TC that is not allowed but have a go.. if you run Lion certainly download and use exclusively 5.6 airport utility.
Is the TC set to router or bridge? Is the TC the only router?
Could you bypass at least the issue for now using the airport express plugged into the TC as an AP??

  • I am connected to wifi, but 3G is still on the top??

We have two iPhone4's, my wifes and mine.  I have wifi running on my phone, but my wifes doesn't want to connect to the same at home wifi we have.  why?
3G costs me $$, where as wifi does not.
    Thanks,

Have you tried going into Wi-Fi and forgetting your network on her iPhone. Then go back into Settings and turn Wi-Fi back on and try to connect? You can also try and reset network settings. The only problem with that is it will forget all the other wi-fi networks she has connected to. Also, the user troubleshooting steps after that are:
    Power iPhone off/on
Reset - by holding the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and release
    Restore - from a backup
Restore - as a new phone
See if things work after each step before going on to the next one.

    Running OS X 10.9.5, 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7, 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3.
I keep getting a pop-up message saying 'Downloading Item'. It keeps popping up, even after I click OK. I have force quit iBooks and this hasn't stopped it from coming back.

Hello, Below are some tips to better assist you.
Please be aware you want to try and use accessories that state they work with the iPhone. Please try not to use any accessories that are not designed for iPhone.
    1. Ensure that the accessory your connecting to and the iPhone itself both have clean connectors. Usually a small fine haired brush will assist with sweeping and or brushing out any small dust or other particles.
If you do not have access to some sort of soft brush, Try blowing out any possible particles in a side ways motion so it will blow the particles out sideways vs further into the connectors.
Now connect and see what happens.
    2. If needed disconnect the power to the accessory, and power down the iPhone as well. Hold down the Sleep/Lock button on iPhone till you see a slide to power off. Wait 5 min, Now power iPhone on, Then the accessory and connect.
    3. Reboot iPhone, Hold down the Home button & Sleep/Lock button together, Once you see a silver Apple logo release and allow iPhone OS to reboot. Now try accessory again
    4. Toggle Airplane Mode on if needed while using iPhone with accessory, Settings-Airplane Mode ON and turn OFF when done.
    5. If needed Restore and or Update the iPhone. Please ensure all Data you want back on the iPhone is on the PC/Mac before restoring as all data will be erased and can not be re-synced.

  • Wi-Fi name change

I would like to change the name of my Wi-Fi network through my router. I know how to do this, but when I try to connect to the new network with my i-phone, it says unable. When I change the name back to the original name, everything works ok. Any ideas how to make everything work ok?

    Hello SpinCandB
Try the following. Hopefully it helps
    1. Update the Router firmware if you have not done so yet
    2. Once that is done go to the iPhone and perform the following
-Settings - WiFi - Tap on blue circle - Forget this network
-Settings - WiFi - Turn off WiFi
-Settings - General - Reset - Reset Network Settings - Allow iPhone to reboot
-Once it is booted off power iPhone off
-Now change the name of the WiFi network on the router. And update and save settings
-Once this is done power the router off for 2 to 3 min
-During the power off phase turn the iPhone back on - Turn WiFi on iPhone on
-Let it scan for networks. It should not find any in the house
-Now power router on. Give it 2 to 3 min to fully power up
-Now go to iPhone WiFi let it scan for network. If it picks up the new network tap on it.
Let us know if this works at all. Had a similar experience with my WiFi network at home and that helped me out. Also check and make sure you are not using a Private DNS. Sometimes in odd situations this may cause it not to accept the new name ran across that as well at least once at home.

  • Thunderbolt monitor stopped working

    Hi All -
I have a new retina MacBook Pro 13-inch and Thunderbolt monitor. The monitor worked fine for a couple of days and now it won't light up when I connect it to my rMBP. It's getting power ok and the pass-through USB ports (on the back are passing power). But when I connect to to my rMBP, the USB ports lose power (iphone stops charing and chirps) and the monitor is never recognized.
I fixed it one by unplugging the power plug on the rear of the monitor, then replugged it back in, but now that doesn't work either
    I tried:
     restarting the mac
     shut down and restart
     PRAM reset
     both Thunderbolt ports
 all combinations of Mac power/monitor plug in
    Anyone else?
    Thank you.

One more symptom (yes, it's still dead) that I thought I'd share.
My Thunderbolt monitor passes power through to the connected MagSafe adapter no problem. It powers my MacBook fine, 100 percent of the time. But here's where it gets weird...
The USB ports on the rear pass power. I have a USB fan and a USB > Lightning adapter for my iPhone 5 plugged into the back of the monitor and both provide power -- UNTIL I plug the Thunderbolt plug into my rMBP13. As soon as I plug TB into my MBP, the USB ports on the rear lose power (fan turns off and iPhone stops charging). As soon as I unplug TB from my MBP the fan starts again and my MBP resumes charging (as noted by that distinctive chirp).
So I suspect that it's a defective monitor. It worked fine for about a week, then it was intermittant for about a week. Now the screen won't light up at all, and the USB pass-through ports are acting up too.
I think someone needs a trip to the genius bar. Which isn't trivial because it's mounted to a VESA adapter and an arm bolted to my desk.
    (sigh)

  • IOS 5.1 sync fail to start

Just updated to iTunes 10.6 and iOS 5.1 on iPhone 4S.
Despite repeated attempts, including turning "sync over wi-fi" off, sync fails to start.

    Suggestion:
Assuming your OS software and version of iTunes are both up to date, with iPhone connected and iTunes running, Power Off iPhone (hold power button on top until red slider appears, then slide slider to power off), then power iPhone back on (hold power button on top until apple appears on iPhone screen).
In iTunes, with phone still connected, select iPhone in Devices and Summary screen, if phone does not sync after a minute or so, click Sync button in iTunes. If phone does not sync then, on iPhone choose Settings/General/iTunes Wi-Fi Sync and click Sync Now.
If that doesn't work, try changing a phone option in iTunes (such as un-check "Sync this phone over Wi-Fi"), and with phone still connected, quit then re-launch iTunes, and if Sync does not start automatically, click iTunes Sync button.
If iPhone still does not sync, I suggest calling 1-800-MY-IPHONE.
My iPhone still does not sync automatically daily over wi-fi even though that option is set, but it will sync  when connected to computer. So I am guessing there is still a bug somewhere.
