Boxed version of iWeb vs. pre-install

If iWeb is included in the boxed set of iLife '11 why are new computers not pre-installed with it?

It is now generally acknowledged that iWeb, and iDVD, has been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. However, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
◼ Password protection
◼ Blog and photo comments
◼ Blog search
◼ Hit counter
◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
It now appears that the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought.
Personally, if I didn't already have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.

Yes. Don't worry, Apple won't let you download something that requires a purchase before actually paying.

If you have another Mac or PC, you can use Remote Disc to install iLife on the MacBook Air > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1777 If not, the other option is to use an external DVD drive as the best option, but Remote Disc is also a way

All has been installed. Those are there in case you need to do a reinstall. Unlike most Windows based hardware vendors these days. Apple still ships software you might need in case a drive fails. Even in the case of the new MacBook Air, Apple ships the software on a flash drive.

You must be signed into the Apple Store with your Apple ID or it won't work.

  • Lightroom 5 already installed with serial number of purchased box version. How will this version be upgraded to CC-license?

I have bought lightroom 5 as a box version. Now I ordered Creative Cloud. In application manager I see lightroom 5 is up-to-date. I also see my purchased license number in lightroom. How will this lightroom version be updated / upgraded to Lightroom CC?

There is no magic involved nor is there any specific CC version of LR. CC simply will take over your existing install and that's it. No change in functionality no nothing, no blinking buttons, no congratulary note from aunt Gerty.

  • Installing Boxed Version

My wife and I downloaded the trial version of LR 4 to our computers. She loves it so much that I bought her a boxed copy to arrive on her birthday (I will probably buy a boxed version myself). My question is: when the boxed version arrives, will we have to remove the downloaded free trial OR will the boxed version install overtop? Thanks.

    pavil82 wrote:
Are you saying that we simply use the key on the boxed version to "purchase" the trial version without uninstalling it
    Yes.
When you buy the boxed version, you're really buying a valid serial number. The box and the disk are added extras. The code on the disk is identical to the code in the installed Trial version. So there's nothing to be gained by uninstalling the Trial and installing the code on the disk. Same code.
When you launch the Trial you have the options to buy, enter serial or continue as trial. Click enter serial, enter your serial number from the boxed version and your Trial is then perpetually licensed and will launch normally in future without the Trial screen.
Once your copy is licensed, ensure that you're running the latest version: Lightroom 4.3 (Help > Updates)

Also... You mentioned that we have two activations but then you end that with a question mark. Do you mean that my wife could put this on two of her machines (desktop and laptop) OR allow me to install it on my desktop?
Yes, but a condition of the EULA (End User License Agreement) is that both activations should be used by the same person and not simultaneously.
I'm sure people get round that without incident that's what the EULA says.

  • How to install my pre-installed version of ML from my new iMac, in my old macbook?

i bought an imac that came with ML pre-installed... and i have a macbook that i wish to update to ML... how can i do that without having to buy the downloadable version of ML from the apple store?..... since i already have it preinstalled in the new iMac.. i shouldn't have to buy it since i already did with my new iMac.... please help me solve this issue...

It always was this way. The disks that shipped with a Mac could not be used on another Mac because they were hardware specific. So, there's a more pragmatic reason you can't use it, it's got specific drivers for your iMac.
In a recent post, someone tried cloning the system to their old Mac and wound up in a world of grief.

  • Unable to install Aperture 2 + upgrade to 3 (boxed version)

I have Aperture 2 with upgrade to 3 (boxed versions). I bought a new MacBook Pro and now I am unable to install the Aperture application. When I install aperture 2, only sample projects are installed. No installation options are offered. There is no Aperture.app in the /Applications directory. When I then try to install upgrade to 3, it somehow recognizes that I already have Aperture 2 (I do not know where), and tries to upgrade. Then I finally have app in /Applications, but it is incomplete, unable to load - does not even launch, just writes that it is missing MainMenu.nib into the console.
    What is wrong?

Once you have done an installation it is always good practive to run Disk Utility/ Repair Permission on your system disk, this can help resolve some issues.
Then if this does not work try following the steps listed on the Trouble Shooting Basics page.
Let us know how you go.

  • Install new version dialogue box always appears but does not install new version

Whenever I start Muse a new version available dialogue box appears saying a new version is available...click to install.
When I click to install, a progress bar seems to indicate that the new version is installing. When the progress bar is complete the dialogue box disappears.
When I start Muse again, the same dialogue box appears. I must click "install later" to open muse. My adobe cloud updater says that Muse is current.
How can I get the new version, and how can I stop the repeated new update is available dialogue box from appearing whenever I open Muse?

Did you try re-installing OS x Lion? That was the solution for me. Just make a back up with time machine and then restart your mac and during restart press ALT. Then you'll acces the support screen and there you can reinstall OS X lion on your macintosh HD.
This was the solution the people from Apple support gave me and afterwards I could download the update perfectly.

  • List of pre-installed CA certificates by Java version?

    Hello all,
I am looking to find a list of all the CA certificates that came pre-installed (/lib/security/cacerts) with each version of Java since and including 1.4.2. Does anyone know if any such list exists?
The best I could come up with was this:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/security/
That document lists some certificates that were added in 1.4.2, but it is not an exhaustive list and it doesn't cover anything that was added or removed since then.
Any pointers to resources would be very helpful.
    Regards,
    Brandon

    No.
What I need is a list of when the different root certificates was supported by Java. An example could be:
"Thawte Premium Server CA" was preinstalled since J2SE 1.3
"GlobalSign Root CA" was preinstalled since J2SE 1.4.2 update 16Write to Sun/Oracle since I doubt if anyone visiting this site has such a list or has access to the information required to create such a list.

Thank you for your response but in App Store it shows a price of £10+ for this down load.
