Boxes printing around PSD files placed in IDD

I have an inDesign file that I've placed many PSD files in and when I go to print the PDF, boxes appear around some of the PSD files. This also happens in Illustrator. Am I not supposed to place PSD files? What other options do I have? I tried .png for the illustrator file but it didn't work so I ended up rasterizing the files but I'm sure there's a better way and I'm afraid embedding all of them will make the file gigantic. Thanks in advance for your help
amy

Amy,
You should be able to place PSD and AI files without issue.
What colour are these boxes? If they're white it could be transparency settings (or transparency blend space).
See here: http://indesignsecrets.com/eliminating-the-white-box-effect.php
To find out quickly, try exporting to a PDF x1a. If the problem disappears you have a transparency issue.
Have you checked the psd files and object boxes for the offending stroke?

  • PSD file placing in to indesign

I can not place psd spot colour files into indesign

I think one of the issues here is spot colours - and my question is is anyone even using spot colours anymore?
I certainly have a spot colour mood board, but I haven't printed a spot colour job in about 10 years. Printing prices have come to a point where 4 colour is just as cost effective as 1 or 2 or 3 colour jobs. I even know one printer that takes a spot colour job in and runs it on a 4 colour machine because they don't have time or the need to clean up the 4 colour machine to run a spot colour. It just houses CMYK in the wells and runs every job that way. In 15 years not a single complaint.
Just wondering - is there any need for these files to be a CMYK+spot? Can't you just convert them all to CMYK and save them as a PSD or TIFF and be done with it?
Just to note, InDesign is very different to Quark - what worked in Quark won't necessarily work in InDesign - and you should forget how Quark works and focus on how InDesign handles things.

  • PSD file to FCP

    Good Morning all,
I have run into a problem that I have been researching on the net and have found others with similar problems but no solutions. I have made a layout for a DVD menu in Photoshop which will consists of a background, text, and basic boxes. The PSD files are imported perfectly in layers and I am able to manipulate each layer individually which is great; however, my final product is outputted a bit blurry. I tried tweaking some settings a bit and was able to make the text a bit more legible but it's still not as crisp and clear as my original.
I am using a canvas size of 720*480 72dpi in Photoshop so that I can see action safe guidelines and so that it import into FCP in the right places on screen. What else can I try tweaking to get this looking as crisp and professional as my original. The final product will be imported into DVDSP and I want to be able to play this on a computer and a TV.
P.S. I did export and put this on a DVD to see the end result on a TV and I get the same image on the TV as I did on the computer.
    Thanks

Update: I have gotten this project to export from FCP to QT with no problems and retains it's sharp and crisp images (even the text). Now when I burn it to DVD the text has a tiny glow around the letters. Almost as if there is an image of the letters not perfectly aligned with the letter giving it a glow of some sort. Everything else on the menu looks the way it is supposed to.
Any thought on how I can fix this in DVDSP? I figured out the reason it lookes so terrible before was because it was being compressed by FCP on export. I took the compression off and got my menu with effects to look sharp and crystal clear. I'm guessing the reason the letters are slightly off when burning to DVDSP is because of the compression but how can I set this up so that the text looks clearer?

  • .psd files dose not open with Camera Raw

I noticed that if you have a ".psd" file  even if it is Flatten, it will not open in camera raw. I can easily save it to a Tiff or other formats and open it in camera raw, but I wonder why .psd file dose not open in camera raw
    Thanks

Yes, Trevor, you can indeed opened a non-layered PSD in Adobe Camera Raw—at least in perpetual-license CS6 and earlier, I don't know about the Cash Cow subscription version 14.x which I'm not going anywhere near.
What you cannot do is open a PSD in Camera Raw by double clicking on it.  You just have to go through  File > Open menu item and its dialog box.
Once you are in the Open dialog box, select the PSD file you want to open, go to the File Format button on the lower left-hand corner of said dialog box and from the list of formats available in the pop-up menu choose Camera Raw.  The Open button on the lower right will become active and you can then open your file in Adobe Camera Raw.
Just be sure not to choose the "Photoshop Raw" format from that list of formats in the pop-up menu. "Photoshop Raw" has nothing to do with digital photography at all; it's an ancient, obsolete file format that no one should be using these days.

  • PSD preview doesn't update when i change psd-file

    Hello everyone!)
I work in Mac OS Mountain Lion. PSD preview doesn't update when i change psd-file placed on external hdd or flash drive (ntfs or exfat).
    Create psd-file.
Сhanged psd-file in Photoshop cs6 (preview don't update).

    Same problem with PDF files.
Now it's very difficult to detect latest version of psd-file.
Does anyone have a similar problem using not HFS file system?

  • I request capability to add either LINKED or embedded graphics to Muse (either AI or PSD files)

I notice there is no way to place a linked PhotoShop (PSD) file in Muse.   In comparison, PhotoShop now has the capability of placing both embedded and/or linked files (including AI files) within PSD files.  I am request this feature in Muse as well.  Ultimately I would love to place either embedded or linke vector (AI) files in Muse, but the best I can do for now is place a PSD file which is linked to an AI file, into Muse.  I was hoping to be able to make changes to the original AI file which would automatically update the PSD file to which it is linked which in turn would update the PSD file placed onto my Muse page, but it did not work.  It does not appear to work because the placed PSD file (onto the Muse page) is embedded into the Muse page, and there no longer is any kind of link between the original PSD file and the version placed on the Muse page.  Help me Adobe, I can't believe what I am asking would be difficult to pull off, and you already offer this feature in PhotoShop.  The capability I am requesting would greatly enhance the power and elagance of the Muse program.  By the way, I believe Muse is a fantastic product, and just what I have been waiting for for the last several years.

Yeah, I know that changing the mode results in different colors. I just switched back and forth to check out what's going on.
For CMYK I'm using ECI profiles which are common in Europe and for RGB the normal Adobe RGB 1998 profile. The profiles are synced between all Creative Suite products. I tried sRGB and some of the default profiles which shipped with CS5 but it produces the same result. I also deleted my whole Illustrator profile but without success.
My graphics card doesn't have any updates. But it would be very unlikely anyway that both drivers for both cards had the same issue. If it has something to do with my graphics cards it's more likely the switchable graphics in general.

  • Colour shift when placing PSD files into illustrator

    Hi there
I have tested this issue on CS 3,4 and 5.
bascially if I create a CMYK document with a colour image and save this down as a psd file with the coated Fogra 39 embedded in it. If I create a new file within Illustrator with the same colur management and place the psd file into the document and check the link option (so it is a linked file), the colour shifts when using the colour picker. If I print the document from each APP they visually look different as well.
If I place the psd into illustrator without selecting the link option the colour has the same CMYK values as the psd within Photoshop and also prints correctly.
i can only assume that there is an option somewhere in regards to the "link" option and how this changes tha colour values somewhere? If not is there anyway I can get around this issue so I can use linked files without the CMYK values changing?
    Thanks in advance
    Paul

    Hi guys
    Thanks for the responses.
I use bridge to blanket the colour settings so this i feel this is not the issue here. If you have a moment and would kindly create a colour tint within PS of what ever colour, save this down as any format and place this into illustrator with the link checkbox checked you will see the colour data has physically changed for the CMYK values. This results in the prints looking different as well. If you deselct the link check box when placing the file the CMYK values are the same.
I tried the overprint preview option. This changes the viewable colour on screen but not the CMYK data of the file.
There seems to be a fundamental floor with this link option for some reason.
I might have phone Adobe direct for this iisue as I cannot find a fix for this.
    Many thanks
    Paul

  • Placed PSD file has Jagged Edge

    Products:
    PS CC
    AI CC
I have a 2500 x 4088 px PSD file with no jagged edges, until it is placed into Illustrator.
I believe that I have placed the PSD file in its original size, but may be wrong. My artboard was created to be larger than the original image, and when placing the file I simply clicked on the artboard.
I have not knowingly increased or reduced the dimensions of the placed file.
Will the jagged edge be present if I place the AI file into InDesign?
Is there a setting somewhere that I need to change to remove the jagged edge?
    Thanks

    Hi John, thank you.
I verified that the anti-alias box was checked, and it was. I usually do not print, so your suggestion was well taken. When the document printed, the lines were as smooth as I expected them to be.
A few days ago when troubleshooting my Windows 8 system, it recommeneded that I perform a Refresh -- so I did. It notified me that it would keep all files and I thought nothing more of it, but learned that the refresh deletes all installed programs. I had to reinstall all Adobe products (among others).
After the re-install I created the attached image. There was a version of the same size that I created before the refresh, and when I placed that image into Illustrator, it appeared smooth with no jagged images.
I don't know why the jagged edges are present on the screen, but ultimately it's the print version that matters (save as to web produced smooth edges, too).
Thank you for your response, it was very helpful.

  • PSD file has printer freaking out!

Okay, maybe not freaking out, but he has concerns.
    So, this is the sit-rep:
isolated a person in PS with a translucent background and saved it as a PSD file.
Placed this into an ID page.
Created several ellipses and sent them to the back so the rings appear from behind the PSD image when they get past the persons body into the translucent part of the image.
    Make sense?
    Really simple.
The printer is concerned his RIP is going to be confused. I created a PDF of the page and nothing strange shows up. (Though I have had illustrator EPS files placed into ID do wacky things even though they showed up fine in the PDF)
    Thoughts?
    Thanks.

    Hi Peter,
How are things? Thanks for the input.
This is unfortunately not the state of things there. Nobody seems to be around to look at things when it matters. The truck shows up with the pony and thats just the way it is when you get it.
Would it surprise you if it did odd things? I mean, it surprises me a bit to be honest. There are no layers clogging up the PSD file etc.
    It's just this:

  • Placed native .psd files always "get modifed" when creating pdf

Just today started this very odd thing. ANY, any native .psd file I place into a new or old InDesign CS4 document, whether the .psd is RGB or CMYK, one layer, multiple layers, will tell me that as soon as I hit the blue "Export" button that "This document contains missing or modified links." Click Cancel and then use the Links panel to relink or update lnks or click OK to continue.
If I click cancel and update the link (which had never changed in the first place), then go to export again, it does the same thing. If I create a new document and try placing the same .psd file into the new ID document, it does the same thing. Only way I can get around this new FREAKINGLY FRUSTRATING error message is to not save the document, then export it.
I've tried trashing all the preferences, for both ID and PS, that didn't work. I've tried repairing permissions, and that didn't work.
This does not happen for .ai files or .eps (Illustrator or Photoshop). Or if I open an ID file with a .psd in it, it will tell its changed even after I've saved and closed the document.

  • Problem placing PSD file in Illustrator

    G'day,
My problem is when i place PSD file into illustrator, it opens up "Photoshop Import Option" menu,
    which lets me choose either:
    (1) convert photoshop layers to objects (or)
    (2) Flatten photoshop layers to a single image
all other options are greyed out (meaning i cannot select them)
The above 2 options will embed the image into illustrator, thus when i update in photoshop, they will not auto update.
I dont have this problem in the past (which means i dont get this menu when i use the place function) but it just poped up the last week.
But when i open OLD illustrator files which have PSD images not embeded, i am able to edit the PSD and illustrator will auto update.
Please help it is really frustrating to keep placing PSD files everytime when i have changes.
    Thanks!

    Hi Steve,
May i know what is the place dialogue box are you referring to?
The Place dialogue box that i get (when i press file>place) is the image below:
As you can see i dont have any "link" button to check or uncheck. I can either flatten the psd or convert to object.
My Problem is I would really like to link back the psd file for easy updates but i am not able to.
    Pls help thx!~

  • Placing smaller PSD file to large InDesign file

    Hello folks,
I just want to make sure I'm doing this right before I commit to a printer.
I have a high resolution Photoshop file that's about 10 MB, the width is only about 11 inches in the photoshop file.
I need a banner that is 120 inches wide.  When I place the file in InDesign and stretch it to the size I need it...it looks fine in InDesign but the file size is less than 1 MB.  I just find that hard to believe, so I'm just making sure that this is the correct procedure in making a large banner from a PSD file.
    Thank you!

    RockoFaith wrote:
I just made the photoshop image 1800 dpi.
Which improved the pixelation when upscaling in InDesign...but it looks blurry around the edges now, instead of pixelated.
Yup. Upsampling in Photoshop depends on interpolation and manufacturing pixels from thin air, and that's what you get.
I guess I just need to know how peopel take small images and put them up on a huge banner and have it look great.  That might get me the answer I need to do this properly.
They start with a larger image to begin with.

  • How can i get rid of the print dialog box when using api to print an html file

i am using the systemshell.vi provided by labview the VI is working fine but it will open a dialog box for printer selection and properties. i would like to hide that dialog box and have it print to the default printer with the default properties

ShellExec is part of lvwutil and merely calls a function in Shell32.dll. There is nothing about the function call that controls the display of the printer dialog. I think that what shell32.dll does when it prints (just like right clicking on the file) is print the file according to what is defined about that file type in Windows Folder Options. On my Win2K system, the print application is defined as "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\msohtmed.exe" /p %1. If I remove the /p, then Word starts up and in order to print, I get a printer dialog when choosing Print from the File menu. So it seems like the printer dialog is entirely dependant on the application that does the printing. I get no dialog when I use the VI to print a .txt file. I
nstead of using shell32, you might want to try some ActiveX method or property of an application like Internet Explorer that can open and print an html file.

  • How do I transfer a .psd file to illustrator that can then be placed in Muse as a .svg with transparent background?

I just wrote all this up in another thread.  I did not realize at the time that the last post was in 2014, so I'm giving it a go here.
I am currently trying to create an .svg using Photoshop .psd file (with layers in tact).  I'm new to these products so it may be obvious to others that the above intention was to eventually place the .svg in some sort of website creation software such as Muse.  Which is precisely what I am attempting. However, I am getting a white background once I place or copy and paste into Muse.  My starting .psd has a transparent background without any hidden layers causing this problem.  To test this I placed the .psd file into Muse and it still has a transparent background.  However when opening or placing this file into illustrator, it picks up a white background. If I do exactly as described above, I still get the same result.  So far I have tried:
    1) Simple copy and paste from Photoshop .svg to illustrator to Muse.  Result - white background.
    2) Placing the .psd in illustrator, then placing the .svg file in muse.  Result - white background.
    4) I have also tried the every combination of 1 and 2. - Result - white background.
    3) I have now created a path in Photoshop from the text layer to yet again attempt the above methods.  Result - white background.
I'm including an image of the object I am trying to place with transparent background, but I have both a flattened rasterized version, a version complete with layers and a third (.svg) with the corresponding objects.  I am completely new to Illustrator as of today so any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.
Link to .psd file "Welcome text"

I was having some difficulties getting the correct dimensions of one of my objects, I eventually solved this problem without using svg.  It was pretty simple when I stopped trying to over complicate things.  I just linked the object to a near by object in photoshop, merged and placed it all as one.  It looks great now.  Thanks for your reply.  You are correct, SVG was not the answer.
