BOXI3.0: Universe and Local Data Source Selection

Hi all. I am Alias.
I have one question. For the full XI3.0 installation, one of the products is Web Intelligence Rich Client.
In Web Intelligence Rich Client, we can have Data Source Selection which is Universe and Local Data Source. But for Web Intelligence/InfoView, we can only select universe, or maybe canu2026 I need to explore more but still could not find it.

Ports Crystal Reports uses when Connecting to a Universe as a Data Source

I have a couple of Crystal Reports that use universes as a data source. On my Windows 7 machine I am getting an error message that "Logon Failed", rather opening and running the same report on my Windows XP machine, I get the results from the universe as expected. I have tried multiple universes that report against different databases (Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase, etc) and I am getting the same vague error message on my Windows 7 machine with Crystal Reports 12.3.0.601.
Can someone please tell me what ports are being used within Crystal Reports (other than 6400) when connecting to the CMS and pulling back data from a universe? The odd thing, is that I can connect to the CMS, see the universes that I have permissions too and even see the objects within the universe, but I cannot view the results. This is a pretty high priority for us, so I would appreciate any feedback possible.

As long as you use/set Saved Data with the reports then they don't need the client installed. If they hit Refresh to update the data then obviously they need to be able to connect to the data source, how else are they going to get it.
Think about it, you sit down to write a report off of a database you don't have access to? How are you going to create a report....
If you planning on sending out reports for viewing only then export them to PDF or some other type, then DB connections are not an issue, the PDF's are for viewing only.
Another concept is DB Security. Using NT Authentication or DB Authentication unless that user hitting the refresh button has access to the DB it won't prompt for log on info or if they don't provide the correct log on info they can't see new data.
It's all about security, CR does not save the Password in the RPT file, if we did anyone could get it and hack your database.
Not sure what your post has to do with Ports?

How to get a EAR package for deploying without local data-source setting in JDev9i?

Hi all,
I want to use pooled data-sources defined in OC4J's global configuration setting directory in JDEV_HOME\j2ee\home\config.
But when I packaged my application to an EAR file,it contains it's local data-sources.xml file in the package.Each time the server was restared,the local data-sources.xml file was overwritten by the originally setting in the EAR package,thus I cannot use the pooled settings.
So could let me know how to package a EAR file without containing it's local data-source setting,but use the global data-source setting?Or how to control the local data-source setting without changed after mannully defined.

You don't need a File to do what you want. Even if you could, it would be wrong to use a file.
It would be wrong, because the compiler might not by using a JavaFileManager that is actually backed by a filesystem. It could be backed by some form of repository such as a database, or it could be backed by a transient in memory file system ( An example of the latter is the [annotation processor test framework|https://hickory.dev.java.net/nonav/apidocs/index.html?net/java/dev/hickory/testing/package-summary.html] in hickory)
But probably of more interest to you, you don't need to because you can simply [get an InputStream|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/javax/tools/FileObject.html#openInputStream()] from the FileObject returned from [filer.getResource(...)|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/javax/annotation/processing/Filer.html#getResource(javax.tools.JavaFileManager.Location,%20java.lang.CharSequence,%20java.lang.CharSequence)] and read it.
You might also find the [Compiler Tree API|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/jdk/api/javac/tree/index.html] useful. The Compiler Tree API is available to annotation processors running in Oracle's (Sun's) javac, but not in other compilers (possibly limiting portability).

Posting date in AFRU and 2lis_04_p_arbpl data source is not matching

Hi Experts,
We are facing an issue with 2LIS_04_P_ARBPL data source, posting date in AFRU table and in data source is not matching.
For example: we booked an activity confirmation of value 100 on 01.01.2015 posting date, Counter 1, Operation 10
For the same operation another counter is confirmed on 01.02.2015 posting date.
So, in AFRU table:
Prod Order     Operation     Confirmation Number     Counter     PostingDate     Activity
1001               10               8001                             1              01.01.2015       100
1001               10               8001                             2              01.02.2015       0
In 2lis_04_p_arbpl data source, counter field is missing due to which only 1 record is coming which is:
Prod Order     Operation     Confirmation Number     Counter     PostingDate     Activity
1001               10               8001                             1              01.02.2015       100
In data source, activity of value 100 is coming on 01.02.2015 date instead in AFRU table it is booked on 01.01.2015 posting date by which we are unable to match the value in query which is based on posting date.
Please help on this.

In addition to above differences. Below is the functional difference between 0FI_AP_30 & 0FI_AP_4:
0FI_AP_4 gives you accounts payable line items in your report. Here GL account shows the balances of particular types of vendors/payables to which that particular GL account is been assigned.
And If subledger is activated in ECC, then by using 0FI_AP_30 you can get the break up of that particular GL balance according to vendors.
To make use of datasource 0FI_AP_30, subledger accounting must be activated in ECC.

I tried last day with SQL LOADER, EXTERNAL table , and ODBC data source.
Why all of these utilities still failing to solve my problem ?
Is there an efficient way to reach this goal ?

export the dbase data file to text file,
then you have choice of using either sql loader or external table option to use.

OBIEE report with HFM and Essbase Data source

Just want your though can we get the data from HFM and Essbase data source in a single report i.e. for some account i want to show budget data from HFM and Forecast data from essbase in a single OBIEE report? If yes how can we model both Data source in rpd?

It possible but the challenge is to try to align the account hierarchy and the entity hierarchy between Essbase and HFM. HFM is looking the data at a top side consolidation level where planning will have more granular details to forecast correctly. The best solution is either to build a custom table in to import both sources, or to use HFM data into Essbase, or to use EPMA. The best in class solution stays to align hierarchies and metadata across applications. We implemented BI Financials Dashboard for the General Ledger, built a custom Dashboard connected in Real Time to Planning and are installing OFMA to connect HFM. Once done, you can rationalize metadata if not done before and start to link the different data into single reports. You will also have to ensure the data is refreshed at the same time to avoid inconsistency.

Examples of Global, Universal, and Local naming convention

I am stuck on the types of naming conventions for global, universal, and local groups.
For example, I have Managers, Clinical, VC, BC, Councilors, Accounting, Nurses, Payroll, Benefits, Company Policies/Form
Which ones would you make global, universal and local?
I was thinking of making Clinical, Accounting and Managers the global groups. Then make VC, BC, Nurses, Payroll, Benefits and Company Policies/Forms, Councilors the local groups.
Since this is only a single domain, I was going to omit the universal group.
What are your thoughts? Would this work?

There is really no difference in your scenario. If you have a single domain with no other child domains simply go for Global. The differences between these groups are related to membership of
the users. For example in Global groups, users from other domains are not allowed to be member of the group.

Difference between SP datasource and object data source

Hi,
I have a requirement to query large list and display data in a view similar to SPlist view(Including Filtering, Sorting, Paging).
I have implemented the same using SPGridview and Object data source.
Can you please comment on the performance of the spgridview's(soritng, filterting and paging) using object data source and spdatasource.

Using a SQL data source and XML data source in the same template

I am trying to develop a template for the Request for Quote report generated in Apps 11.5.10. I have loaded the data from the XML output into the template, but I am missing one field - I need the org_id from the po_headers table. Is it possible to use a sql data source (i.e., "select org_id from po_headers_all where po_header_id = [insert header_id from xml data]...") in addition to the xml data source to populate the template at runtime? When you use the Insert > SQL functionality is it static at the time the template is created, or does it call to the database at runtime? I've looked through all the docs I could find, but this isn't clear.

Thats a tough one ... if you go custom with a data template you will at least get support on the data template functionality ie you have a problem when you try and build one. You will not get support on the query inside the data template as you might have gotten with the Oracle Report, well you could at least log a bug against development for a bad query.
Eventually that Oracle Report will be converted by development anyway, theres an R12 project going on right now to switch the shipped OReports to data templates. AT this point you'll be fully supported again but:
1. You have to have R12 and
2. You'll need to wait for the patch
On reflection, if you are confident enough in the query then Oracle will support you on its implementation within a data template. Going forward you may be able to swap out your DT and out in the Oracle one without too much effort.

Hi,
in theory this should work because even SAP and CAF do not break the way Java EE handles database persistence, in practice it is very difficult, probably impossible.
CAF generates something like a Java EE 5 application with JPA 1.0 persistency, so it is in principle unaware of a system datasource. If you look at src/META-INF/persistence.xml, you find a jta-datasource called SAP/CAF_RT which is an alias to system datasource. This persistence.xml is regenerated every time you generate your CAF app so your changes are lost.
In NWA, you cannot change the alias SAP/CAF_RT to point to another JDBC Datasource (at least I did not manage it - getting an error message).
And there are about 25 CAF*-tables in the schema of system datasource which CAF will probably need and maybe will expect in the same datasource as your app tables.
In principle, you could try to create these CAF* tables in another database scheme and maybe it is somehow possible to let SAP/CAF_RT point to another data source by editing some of SAP's CAF ears, but this sounds experimental.
So I am quite sure CAF only supports the system datasource. CAF was not invented to support agilty and degrees of freedom for the developer.

P.S. IMHO with EJB 3.x and JPA it is not a good idea to use CAF for persistence at all. With EJBs there is even no good reason to use for local apps at all. CAF was useful in times EJB 2.x where development of persitent classes took a lot of boilerplate code. SAP updated the framework towards EJB 3 but kept the unflexible structure whereas with JPA 1.0 it is easy to learn and write @Entity, @Column, EntityManager.find or EntityManager.persist. E.g. the CAF way to handle relations between tables is a pain and the programming model with data access is outdated. And CAF way of model driven development is too unflexible to support an agile development process in 2011. So use CAF for small projects that will not increase.

Data source selection check box Enabling

Hi All,
Good day, This in Ravi .
I need one small help from you.
We have a data source named 0co_pc_pcp_01.
we need to check the selection check box for the field ELEM(cost component number).
But it was in disable mode.
Please could you tell how to eanble that selction check box.
Bcoz i need to set that option for that field and have to load in BW with selctions in infopackage.
Please could you help me reagrding this, waiting for your replies.

Hi Ravi,
Which system is it? R/3 Dev pr R/3 QUAL? If it is R/3 Dev then you can goto the TCode RSA6 select your data source and click on the pencil icon on the menu bar. It will ask for a Transport Request, you can give one and then it will take you to the change mode of the data source, there you can do the changes and generate the data source.
But if it is R/3 QUAL then you can't change it there straightaway. You have to first change it in R/3 DEV and collect these changes in a Transport Request and then transport it to R/3 QUAL.

ADF BC standalone app and JDBC data source

Hi,
I have created a small ADF BC (swing) application that is not using ANY application server. It's just a small rich client app. It's using a table on an Oracle database. In JDeveloper I have set the Connection Type in the AppModule to JDBC URL and thsi works just fine.
However, using that method makes it impossible to deploy the app sinice the JDBC URL is hardcoded. I thought changing the Connection Type to JDBC DataSource would solve my problem. But now I get the message that the JNDI data source could not be found.
What do I need to do to make this work? I just want to have the app not being bound to a specific database/host.

Hi,
as mentioned in the original post there is no application server involved. It's a standalone rich client application which is running locally on the client computer. It just needs to read some data from a database.
