I decided o pull my old mac G3 out of retirement so that my son can have a computer to use.
I had installed OWC's X-Postfacto on it and installed OSX
Well When I booted it up ony os9 was running. SO I said to myself Hmmmm
Well I installed it once I can install it again.
And of course there being 2 hard drives ( I had installed it on one drive then chose it as the start up drive) on this machine I'll do it agian
and I installed it on the wrong drive and now nothing happens at all...
It wont even recognize os 9 start up disc.
All i get is a blank screen...Is there ANYTHING I can do????to get it started up again???? running OS 9
ANY HELP would be gratefully appreciated.

A Mac that came out of storage, off wall power for a while, needs a new battery to be stable for day-to-day use.
The Beige G3 (if that is your model) is the fussiest about that battery. After you install a new battery, be sure to press the tiny Reset button (flat on the board beyond the last PCI slot) for a quarter minute, then wait at least five seconds before attempting to start.
Put an OS 9 System/Install CD in the CD drive and hold down the C key at startup. That should get you booted to the System on the CD, and mount the Hard Drives for you to examine.
Mac OS X installs alongside OS 9 by design, and should not have damaged anything from OS 9.

Looking for an information management solution. I have three boys that have brand new ipad mini's. I would like to set them up to manage information the easiest way.
My first thought was to use my apple ID for their apps and purchases. This would give me the advantage of seeing everything downloaded and be able to monitor this closely. The disadvantage to me, was that they would see all of my contracts, my apps, and my music.
My other thought was to create one new apple ID and to share that among the three boys. This way I would not have to worry about my information being on their ipads.
This is a very confusing situation for me. My goal is seperate my stuff from my kids stuff. Appreicate input from anyone who has in-depth experience with this as it applies to apple ID, icloud ID, and any detailed explaination of how to do this would be appreiciated. Thanks.

I think I will do this. I will use my apple ID and set face time and message to work independently. That solves one problrem. My other problem and maybe my bigger problem is that if I am using my apple ID, how do I iflter all of this so that my kids don't see my contacts, get my apps, etc. ?

What do you mean by administer?
When you set up the account you have to enter a birthday and it has to results in being 13 years old or older.
You can set a Restriction that hides the iTunes and App store and another one to prevent in-app purchases. See:

They can't. Which came first - the chicken or the egg? Actually, that's a bad comparison but a sync must come first.
The library is actually part of iTunes and it contains everything. iTunes is then configured so that you (or they) determine which portion of everything will be synced to each iPod (identified by a unique name, see below for an example of an iPod and an iPad). iTunes can't make that decision until AFTER it knows which iPods exist.
By the way, I (you, they) can very easily change the name of each device to whatever I (you, they) wish to call it.

You can set them up with your Apple ID if you want to. You can also set them up with their dad's Apple ID. Depending on how old the boys are, you can even let then have their own Apple ID's. The one thing that you don't want to do is have them use more than one Apple ID on their iPads.
If you want to be able to share purchased content, then setting them up with either your ID or your husband's (?) ID would be the way to go. If the boys share an ID with one of you, they can download content that you have already purchased without having to pay for it again.
If you and have the financial wherewithal to allow them to purchase their own individual content, I would recommend letting them have their own Apple ID. This way, as they grow older and eventually move on, they will have their own accounts, their own purchases .... No ties needed to your ID or to dad's ID. FaceTime and Messages will be a little easier to set up if they have their own ID's and they can have their own iCloud accounts as well. However, they must be 13 years old in order to have an Apple ID and iTunes account. If they are under 13, then it's a no brainer you will have to use yours or their father's ID.
Whatever you decide to do, just don't switch from one ID to another ID on the iPads. That gets confusing and they could end up locking themselves out of one of the ID's for 90 days if they download a past purchase using a different ID.

Can you tell us about one or more of the video files - what are they? QuickTime? MP4? Something else? How did you create the video files in the first place?
I do a lot of video and when I upgraded to Snow Leopard I discovered that many of the QT videos that I had created previously (via iMovie & Final Cut) would not play correctly in QuickTime X - the bizarre behavior was that QT X acted as if my video files were only audio files! I reported this to Apple at the time but never heard anything back, and there hasn't been any change in later updates to QT X.
The solution was to (re)install QuickTime 7. But first look in your Applications > Utilities folder. When you upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard, the installer normally moves the old QT 7 program to your Utilities folder. If it's there, try using QT 7 to play one of your video files. If QT 7 is not there, you can download and install it from here Make sure you are running at least OS X 10.6.3 before you install QT 7. It's even better if you make sure you are running 10.6.8 which was the last release of Snow Leopard.

The Android Market is for Android phones. To download apps for the iPhone, you need to use the iTunes App Store. Software for the Android OS is not compatible with the iPhone and vice versa.

The best aftermarket coolers all encroach on the RAM slots.
Change your DIMMs to 2x 1GB DIMMs, and free up 2 memory slots.
If you can find one, a cooler that exhausts to the exterior is the best for the MDD.
This one is the best, but is long discontinued.
These sometimes show up on eBay.
This cooler is a great alternative to the ATI Silencer.
Zalman coolers are excellent coolers, and cool the 9800 very well. A PCI slot fan can help rid the tower of heat.

Sony is the last company that didn't even enounce a JB for there devices. How pathetic. You guy's from sony deliver good hardware. But software support is really bad. (putting that in nice words ). And good software is just as important as good hardware.I dont mind waiting for a update if that's would mean a better and more stable OS. But that's not even case here. I'm greatly disappointed in there Android phone.

Poor Pathetic Safari :( can't keep up with the big boys

Safari is the most pathetic product Apple has to offer. not only is the slow to load, but it can't seem to stop crashing. If your going to use a cloud based system that all your products can interactively communicate and utilize the common data, wouldn't you want to ensure the one product that is the hub of all things on the web was perfected and not so tempermental? get it together, this product has been such a problem. Surely there are people over in Apple land that know how to get it to function like the big boys.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. First, disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, and monitor, if applicable, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including your login items.
Launch the application(s) and test. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
