BPC 7.5 and BI 7.0

Hello experts,
We are running BPC 7.0 MS with SQL 2008. We have drill through capabilities in some applications and we run SSIS packages to bring data from Staging database to the bpc table (Both bpc and staging are in same server).
Now we are planning to bring BI 7.0 and upgrade to 7.5 MS for better drill through capabilities. I would appreciate if someone explain how the data flow happens in a similar environment (R/3 - BI and BPC 7.5 MS) I am looking in terms of how SSIS is setup and whether they use staging database for drill throughs.
I keep hearing about 7.5 MS with improved drill through features. Can someone shed light on that area as well.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Mani,
Please forgive me I cannot answer all questions you made above because of limitation of my knowledge,
Regarding relationship with R/3(ECC) and BPC 7.5 MS and BI,
It is one of way you have staging table to see FI/FM and CO data for sales and expenses, you need to handle SSIS with RFC as you mentioned, why don't you directly go to the table of FI/FM and CO with ITS. SAP ITS(Internet Transport Service?) is an application that generates URL(Drill through is based on URL) from ECC. This will make you more flexible for your future application roadmap since you make a bridge intuitively to the OLTP from OLAP.
If not, you can use RFC to connect ECC direclty or dump data from ECC using SSIS(including RFC). Please refer to the following

    Hi Kumar
I have tried to answer three of your questions. Hope this will help
Ques. Do we have BPF (Business Process Flow) in BPC 7.0 NW version?
    Reply: No
You can refer to the thread: BPC 7.0 - how to design business process flow type Planning process?
Ques. If no, How can we do Approval process in 7.0 NW version ?
Reply: Approval process works with changes in the work status settings while data planning moves over the controlling Approval hierarchy. So in the schedule you can have a display of the current work status using EVLCK()

  • Any way to exclude BPC security settings and profiles from backup/restore?

We are on BPC 10 MS and restoring the PROD version to a DEV environment, but do not want to restore the security profiles.   Need to figure this out before new BPC development is sent back to PROD with same b/u restore process.  DEV security is different than PROD and we do not want the security profiles/settings in DEV to overlay PROD...

    Hi Mike,
No automate process to maintain different set of users in both environments while restoring . Manually manage after refreshed based on required user profiles.

  • BPC 5.1 and Reporting Services on Shared, Corporate Server

We are implementing BPC 5.1 and want to integrate with Reporting Services on a shared, corporate server rather than installing on BPC app/web server. The reason is to minimize number of Reporting Services installations corporate wide. This has led to a number of challenges and questions, which I hope someone can assist with.
    1. What level of access is needed by the three BPC service accounts to Reporting Services, during install and ongoing?
    2. Can BPC be configured to point to a specific Reporting Services sub-directory, rather than having to browse the whole Reporting Services root?
    3. Is there any documentation on BPC and Reporting Services?
    Thank you. Nancy

You know there are 3 types of users who assigned to SysAdmin, Admin and user. Your SysAdmin user must have administrator rights of your corporate reporting server. Or that user must be user of "Content Manager" role in reporting service. Otherwise, you will get many errors by end of certain function of Admin console such as process security or process application.
And BPC is designed to use a reporting service exclusively. It is not designed to use a particular folder other than root.
I do not have idea about documents regarding reporting service of BPC.

  • EVGET in BPC 7 MS and SQL 2008

Have there been any change in how evget works in BPC 7 MS with SQL 2008 compared with BPC 5,1 and SQL 2005?
When I use EVGET in BPC 5.1 and SQL 2005 I always get RFN# when the cell with EVGET isn't updated.
But now when I'm trying BPC 7 and SQL 2008 I get i zero (0) when cell isn't updated. And some times I get another value that isn't the right value for that specific EVGET formula, seems like the system has an old value in memory thats shows, but when I update the, right value shows up in the cell.
This can be a bit confusing and even worse, in some of our reports the wrong value isn't updated when report is refreshed.
Anyone with the same problem or anyone who know if there are any changes made how the data is refreshed in EVGET formulas

Did anoyone resolve this issue? - we are facing the same

  • BPC 5.1 and BPC 7 NW

    Hi:
Has anyone installed both BPC 5.1 and 7.0 NW on the same machine?
We need to demo 5.1 and 7 NW to different clients and are wondering if we can use same machine to install both versions.
I do not see any specific technical requirement conflicts in the installation document.
Has anyone tried this with success? Any issue to look out for?
    Thanks,
    Subramania

    Hi Subramania,
I assume you're talking about the client only, not the server. I had a BPC 7 NW client installed on my machine back in October (an early release) and it didn't allow an install without first uninstalling the BPC 5.1 MS client. Likewise, to go back to 5.1 MS I had to uninstall the 7.0 NW.
This may have been improved in the most recent builds of 7.0, but I would be very surprised if they can sit side-by-side.
I'd recommend using a virtual machine setup for one or the other, even if it's just a VM running XP with the BPC client software (i.e., not the BPC server).

  • Difference between BPC for MS and BPC for NW

    Hi All,
I'm looking for some comparative analysis between BPC for MS and BPC for NW. Can you please give me your points or direct me to some link/material where I can find such stuff.
Primarily I'm focusing on following two points:
    - How would the integration to SAP BI work (=differences between SAP BPC (NW) and SAP BPC (MS))?
Could the same degree of automation be established?
    - I was told that  SAP BPC (MS) could be much faster implemented than the NW version. Is this really the case? Why?
I would really appreciate your earliest response.
    Regards,
    Shabbar

    Hi,
BPC for MS runs on Microsoft platform where as BPC for NW runs on SAP Netweaver.
BPC for NW is tightly integrated with SAP BI all the dimensions and applications created in BPC NW can be seen in BI system in the form of Infoobject (dimensions) and Infocubes (applications).
Performance depends on the complexity and scalability of the project. BPC for NW may undergo lots of improvements and developments in future versions.
search SDN u will get help.
    Hope this helps

  • BPC NW architecture and sizing

    Dear all,
According to the master guide of BPC NW , there are 4 tiers in BPC system
    Client tier
NET Web Server and Application Server tier
    SAP NetWeaver Application Server tier
    Database tier
I got some questions about the NET Web Server and Application Server tier
    1. Can we install the NET Web Server and Application Server for Dev & QA system on the same hardware box?
    2. How do we do the sizing for NET Web Server and Application Server?
We have around 300 users who might upload data & checking report.
    3. If our users increase in the future, can we add AP servers of NET Web Server and Application Server for load balancing?
    4. What the purpose of NET Web Server and Application Server?
According to the master guide, it's responsible for web service , conversion and application services. But, any details of those services?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Dear Jeff,
    1. You can't run more than one BPC Application Server(.Net Service) in the same hardware( If you are using LPAR kind of configuration in IBM server you can install multiple OS in the same hardware)
    2. You can add the more application server if the server is more loaded.
    3. The Sizing of the application server depends on the no of users. Its almost equal to the BPC MS platform.
    4. You can either use 32bit or 64 bit OS for the application server. If you use 32 bit Windows OS you can't use more than 4 GB, since 32bit OS limitation.Even if you add more than 4 GB, the 32 bit OS will not able to use entire memory.
    5. NW SR3 onwards, SAP will not support 32 bit OS.
Hope you are bit clear about the 4 tier architecture.
    Regards,
    JP.

  • How to create Drill through's from BPC to ECC and BEX

    Hi Experts,
    @Greetings@
Am new to BPC can any one help me on Drill trough's. I want to create a drill through to ECC system and BEX Query.
    Thanks for support in advance.
    Regards,
    Harini.

    Hi Harini,
Your Drill through functionality is linked to an on line search website, giving you all necessary information.
During reporting, you need to have more information about selected region.
Before performing or using the Drill-Through feature, ensure that the following prerequisites have been met
            1. You are logged on to any BPC Environment with administration authorizations
            2. From home screen, Switch to the administration area by clicking planning and consolidation                          Administration link
Inside admin area you find Drill through  maintainace in the content tree under the features node.
After opening the Drill through click on New button,
There we need to enter Id, Decription, URL and model name.
If you want do Drill- through from BEx query first you need to publish the query to portal. see below I mention the procedure for publishing a query in the portal.
BEx Query Designer: In the menu bar, choose Query → Publish → To the Portal. See Functions in the Menu Query.
BEx Web Application Designer: In the menu bar, choose Web Template  → Publish → To the Portal. See Functions in the Menu Query.
BEx Report Designer: In the menu bar, choose Report  → Publish → To the Portal. See Functions in the Menu Query.
After posting to portal copy that link paste in the URL address in the drill through.
In the parameter mapping add infoobjects technical names under parameters and Dimensions names under Dimension or user defined values and maintain the which property you want map mention under the property values.
And the save the query and go to the excel and you have an option in the excel ribbon Drill Through and click on that, you will get the query which you are posted in the portal.

You can greatly improve your chance of receiving a helpful answer to your question if you state the version (MS or NW) of BPC which you are using.
Also notice the sticky [note|Please do not post BPC, SSM or FI/CO questions here!; at the top of this forum whereby we announced new dedicated forums for BPC which are the proper place to post your questions regarding BPC in the future to be able to reach the right audience for your question.

  • BI BPC server strategy and the best practice

    Hi  Everyone
I would like to know couple of questions:
    1) Is any white paper or documentation on pros and cons of having BPC NW installed as a add-on to BW system wherein Planning and Reporting are taking place on the same BW system versus BPC as a separate system wherein is used primarily for Planning and Consolidation system only
    2) is there a Best Practice document and performance considerations for BPC development from SAP.
    appreciated for any answers.
    Regards
    AK

    Hi AK,
both scenarios works well but for first scenario having BPC on top of exisiting BW reporting, you need to take special attention on sizing. As BPC requires additional capacity, you need to take care of it.
Also if you have SEM component on your BW system, you need to check this Sap note: 1326576 u2013 SAP NW system with SAP ERP software components.
And before you install BPC, it is recommended to have a quick test process once you upgraded to NW EhP1 (it is a prerequisites for BPC), to check the existing BW reporting process.

  • BPC 7 SP3 and Import Excel package

    Hi,
I use VPC 7 SP3 (with SQL Server 2005) and I have some problems with the standard package named "Import Excel". The following error is returned:
    Package Error Events:
    ErrorCode = -1073450901
    Source = ExcelToText
    SubComponent= DTS.Pipeline
Description = "component "EXCELFILE" (1)" failed validation and returned validation status "VS_NEEDSNEWMETADATA".
    Here is the parameters:
    %XLFILE%     /ECOS/COMPTABILITE/DataManager/DataFiles//EXPORT_COMPTABILITE.XLS
    %SHEET%     COMPTABILITE_CIBLE
    %COLUMNS%
    %TRANSFORMATION%     /ECOS/COMPTABILITE/DataManager/TransformationFiles//Transf_JDE_Compta_Actual.xls
    %CLEARDATA%     1
    %RUNLOGIC%     0
    %CHECKLCK%     0
    Any ideas?
    thanks,
    Romuald

    Hi,
here is more information. The Excel file I try to load has different columns from the standard ones (I have an HYP dimension and no INTCO dimension). I have specified the list of columns in the package parameters interface. It seems that these values are not used by the package. I think that the package waits for a file with the standard columns, no less, no more. It works fine with BPC 4.2 (I use the standard Import Excel package and the file is well loaded).
    thanks for your help,

  • BPC DeleteOlapDimFromCube error  and Analysis Sevices error (-2147221421)

Attempted to process a dimension in BPC and encountered the following error message:
-DeleteOlapDimFromCube : Item not found in collection
-Dimension is locked because it is currently being used in a cube. Remove the dimension from the cube
Went to Analysis Services and successfully procesed the dimension and all but one of the applications.
    Error message recieved was:
Error(-2147221421) Internal error could not update the query log.
    Any ides?

It seems for that specific application you have bad data into fact tables or cube is corrupted.
First you have to check the data using query like:
select count(*) from tblfact"application" where "dimension" not in (select count [id] from mbr"dimension where calc = 'N')
this should always provide 0 like result.
If you receive any result <> 0 then you have to delete the records using delete instead of select count(*).
From error message it seem the cube is corrupted.
In this case you have to delete from Management studio the specific cube for your application and after that from Admin console of BPC you have to do modify application with full process and reindex.
    This should fix the problem.
After that probably you will be able to any task using that specific dimension.
    Kind Regards

  • BPC 70 SP4 and SQL 2008 Feature Pack

Is the SQL 2008 Feature Pack required in a BPC 70 SP4 installation with SQL 2008?  It is listed as a prerequisite, but our DBA's would prefer that it not be installed.  My understanding is that this is needed for backward compatability.  Thre are notes related to this for SP3, but nothing for SP4.

    Hi John,
I just checked it and you don't need all feature pack.
Just install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Backward Compatibility Components on Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Feature Pack.
This is for executing custom packages that was created in SQL2005.
I hope it will help you.

  • SAP BPC Updating Dimension and Elements whilst users are logged in?

    Hi,
In SAP BPC (the Outlooksoft technology), can dimensions hierachies be updated and elements be added without users having to log out?
    Thanks in advance.
    Kaveenga

    Hi Kaveenga,
Yes, dimension hierachies can be updated and elements can be added without users having to log out, but any changes will not be reflected in the users' reports until they log out and back into BPC.  Also, until the users have logged out and back in to BPC, there is potential for users to retrieve incorrect data depending on the changes that were made to the dimensions or if other users have subsequently changed data using the updated dimensions.
    Thanks,
    Scott
