Hi,
When we did the Backup and Restore from Dev to QA. we landed in an error saying that Invalid Value of Dimension Member for Entity and Intco Dimension.
Appreciate on any inputs

Compare contents of entity & intco dims (dev vs qa).
You can also manual adjust entries of dims in QA and use restored appset normally.

IOS 7.04 and configurator 1.4.2 backup and restore issues

I have 20 brand new iPad air's and I am trying to establish a base image in configurator, then use that to restore from as a mass deployment option. I created the backup from the first iPad air succesfully, I installed a few apps via configurator and tweaked icon placement via itunes, I also changed a few settings from the device, wallpaper, bluetooth, and I turned on reduce motion. I am able to backup the first device succesfully in configurator, when I attempt to restore then next device it errors out with a message "Could not restore backup code 4 domain com.apple.configurator.operation.error". I have tried manually proceeding past the greeting screen, rebooting the mac running configurator, restoring the device via itunes, and recreating the backup image. It continues to fail with the same error. The frustarting thing is that i cannot find a table to tell me what these error codes mean, so im left in the dark as to what is causing the issue. does anyone have any ideas?

I have gotten this resolved, but as to how i got this accomplished I am unsure. I ended up deleting the backup image I had created, and starting over from the beginning. I then created a backup at each step of the process, then tested it to see if it failed to apply. At no step in the process did the process fail, so I dont have a clue what change was the culprit. The last issue I'm having, which appears to be fairly widespread, is that when the image is applied theres a 3-5 minute hang where it stays in the "waiting for device to be ready" state. Im not overly concerned about this but it is a pain to have to wait so long for each device to finish. Anyone have a clue about this?

SQL Server Database backup and restore issue

I am trying to take a backup of the database and using restore to create its copy on the same server
Basically I am following this approach

Using the restore command is giving me the following error

LogicalName cant be same for mdf and ldf. verify again with FILELISTONLY. Also you have put wrong logical name

Backup and Restore Issues

So my girlfriend has a 4+ year old macbook, and we just put 10.6 on it. We started by backing up her old hard drive, she has a fairly large external drive and we partitioned that into a 75gb backup drive and a 200+gb storage drive. I read that a really simple way to backup a hard drive on a mac is to use disk utility by "restoring" Macintosh HD to the backup partition. We did that, it seemed successful, and then we re-imaged the hard drive to put Snow Leopard on it.
Next, we used migration assistant to restore all her documents and data, but it seems that not only are non of her documents on her main hard drive, but they appear to have disappeared from the backup external partition as well. Any ideas as to if everything is gone or if there is some way to save it?

When Migration Assistant is used after the install it may create a new user, check in /Users to see if this is what happened?
but it seems that not only are non of her documents on her main hard drive, but they appear to have disappeared from the backup external partition as well.
Again, check /Users or for a file at the root level "/" called (old).

Synchronization Issue backup and restore errors

I have implemented synchronization in local on two instances and worked well for me. But when I am trying to implement the same in Prod server, it is giving exception backup and restore errors. Please let me know, is it possible to implement Synchronization
on same server in two different instances ?

According to your description, you get issue when sychronizing SSAS database server. Right?
In Analysis Services, it is supported to do sychronization for SSAS databases between different instances on same server. We can also sychronize two different SSAS servers. So in this scenario, you can do sychronization between Pro server and Dev server.

My iphone is only 6 months old and I am experiencing the same problems. I have already had to have the phone swapped once with a phone that has a blown speaker. (The apple store is 2.5hours away so I havent been able to go back to replace the replacement) Since I did the ios 5 update, my phone says NO SERVICE and drops calls. I do not wish to go to ios 7 at this time.

Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Basic troubleshooting is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If the issue continues, contact the carrier to troubleshoot the network connectivity issues.

Not able to sign into Blackberry Protect. Backup and Restore function not working. Message is: "Your device isn't associated with a Blackberry ID." My Blackberry Messenger and Blackberry World is working fine so I am sure its not an ID issue on the phone. I can sign into Link, Blackberry.com and Protect. I see my device in Protect but cannot send messages or view it on a map. Times out with cannot reach device message. BB Protect on Device has a swirling circle beside the on/of switch. Cannot turn off.
I have deleted Link and re-installed.
I have reset phone to default(factory) and signed in.

I managed to figure this out myself. I had to delete the device from the Blackberry Protect website. protect.blackberry.com. I wiped my device again and signed in with my Blackberry ID. I dont know if the step of wiping was necessary as I did not try my backup with the current configuration on the device following the delete. Restore is in progress for me!

Reformatting Computer's Hardrive: Need help with Backup and Restore?

I'm getting ready to reformat my hardrive and I'm backing up all of my files. All apps will be reinstalled after the drive is formatted.
I have a ton of music that I've purchased from itunes and mp3s that I've ripped from my CDs in my main itunes folder. I will backup this folder (if necessary). Do I need to back up the licenses? If so, where are they stored? Or, what's the best and most efficient way to go about this backup and restore process? If my Ipod has all my music/videos, will it just copy all the music/videos back to my newly reformatted hardrive while maintaining the original folder structure? I assume I will have to install a fresh copy of itunes first. Also, I'm worried about the licensing for the purchased music. Is there something special I need to do with these files?
I appreciate it if someone can give me the detailed steps to go about this without issue. I'm thinking this is a pretty easy question to all the techies out there...

Back up or copy the iTunes folder. There are no licenses to worry about, buy Deauthorize your computer in iTunes before you reformat. After you restore everything play one of the songs you purchased from the iTunes Store and enter your Apple ID and password to Authorize your computer.

An iPhone backup to a computer via iTunes stores the photos in a backup file that is only meant to be be used if needed to restore back to the phone. There is 3rd party "extractor" software available but otherwise the photos are not directly viewable.
The backup via iTunes was a good idea and your Camera Roll photos should be there and should be able to be restored to your new phone. However if it was me I wouldn't rely on that alone. I would also import the photos to a computer where you can see and verify that you have a copy. That is a good idea at any time (not just when you know you might need it). Any phone can be lost, broken, suffer hardware issues, etc at any time and lose all data on it. Backup and Restore VM

I have a host server that has a C: drive and a D: drive. Right now I only have one VM running and it is located on the D: drive. I need to reformat the disk that the D: drive is on. For some reason it was created as a MBR type disk and I
need to delete it and recreate it as a GPT disk so that I can extend the D: partition beyond 2TB. So, what is the best way to backup and restore the existing VM in this case?

I'm not really sure what you are referring to as an import/export but I'm going to assume its something along the lines of copying the data to 1 drive, then copying the data back to another drive. Doing a file based backup and recovery would do the same
thing. I don't particularly like doing stuff like copy and pastes to move data (especially important data) bc there is no guarantee copy and paste actually copied everything (no logging of what it actually did) and there are alot of things that can happen
during the copy (disk latency, network latency) that may cause data to be lost (delayed write failures). With any good backup program you should be able to run a report for what files it actually backed up and what files failed to backup and the reason
they failed to back up. Same applies to restores. Also I have seen issues where a simple copy and paste strips certain special attributes from the file.
If file based backup/restore is not an option, then maybe a robocopy of the data would be the best solution. I'm pretty sure using /b /copyall api should get everything as well. And you can add a /v switch to it to get some logging.

Backup and restore documentation for outlooksoft 4.2

Any one have backup and restore appset documentation for Outlooksoft 4.2 version? I am interested in both the Server Manager functionality and doing it manually. I haven't had much luck with backing up appset using server manager.

Keep in mind that with version 4.2, BPC Server manager backup and restore the OLAP DB (SQL Server 2000) whereas it does not requires it anymore starting version 5.x.
The root reason is that under 4.2 + AS 2000, security access to cube are directly stored in the cube definition.
But there is a side effect about this : If your AS database is over 2GB then BPC Server Manager will not work anymore. This is due to a restriction on SQL Server Analysis Service 2000 on msmdarch.exe process.
Based on previous experience, if you want to do it manually because BPC Server manager is not working :
Backup \webfolder\<<AppSet>>\*
Backup \FileDB\<<AppSet>>\*
Backup AppSet DB
After restore, you will have to process everything to get back Analysis Service DB + Cubes + Security... But i am not very sure it will work. Maybe you should at least create the OLAP DB (even if it's empty) to make it work.
But for sure this is doable, but technical limitation make it hard !

How to backup and restore iTunes library?

I've had to transfer my iTunes library to a new computer a few times in the past and I've run into this problem. I lose all my playlist information etc. and have to re-create it. If there's some utility that assists in restoring ALL the meta data in the iTunes library I'll pay money for this...

OK, while that is good for what most people want to do it isn't good enough for what I want to do. It doesn't cover the two requirements that I need:
1. I want to keep some music files in a different folder. I don't want iTunes to manage these files.
2. The source path may be different from the target path. i.e. on my old machine it was D:\Music\... but on the new machine it was C:\Music\... (and I've even changed sub-folders in the past to better organize things).
The article you referred to requires that I either:
1. Get iTunes to manage my music.
2. OR copy my files to the same path (I didn't even have a C: drive!!!!)
I've actually written my own utility that hacks around this issue but it screws up playlists so it isn't perfect. I just don't have the time or patience to figure out exactly how Apple processes its XML file format (they made it harder in one version of iTunes because it now uses the .itl file when it used to simply pick up the changes I made to the .xml file itself).
So, I now want someone else to go to the effort of doing this and I'll pay something to buy their utility if it works well. I imagine there are probably other customers out there for this type of utility.
Ideally, Apple should provide a "Backup" and "Restore" menu item that would handle this kind of thing for us and prompt us for destination path mappings when the "Restore" feature is used.
So... does anyone else know of a utility to do this or if Apple is going to provide this in the not-too-distant future?

I ensure that my user have admin right. I also try this solution but not working.
To troubleshoot the issue, please try the following steps.
1. Add the standard user to AppLocker.
Type Secpol.msc in Search box in Start menu> Application Control Policies > AppLocker > Executable Rules > New hash rule forBackup Operators
to allow them to use sdclt.exe
2. Tried to add user in the following GPO:
Computer Configuration>Windows settings>Security settings> Local policies>User rights assignements> Back up files and directories.
3. Plug an external hard drive and try to back up information to the driver for a test.

How do you backup and restore Boot Camp?

I thought I'd drop by and ask my perenial question: How do you backup and restore Boot Camp?
I'm running Windows 7 if it matters, on a MBPn 17 2010 core-i7 and my daughter will soon be running on a MBP 13 2011 core-i7.
I'm currently using SuperDuper! and Time Machine for the Mac side, and am backing up using Disk Utility capturing the entire Win7 partition but have no confidence that it will work if I restore it.
What does everyone here use, and have you successfully restored your Windows 7 environment?

For me, Paragon Hard Disk Manager Suite 2011.
It contains Clone OS and other tools, for $49.
I'm not sure Paragon Backup is "Apple Boot Camp" friendly or not.
All available Paragon Hard Disk Management technologies are available in onesuite.

While lack of mention of Apple Boot Camp in System Backup may not be an issue, I have never used it. Paragon also has volume snapshot and other Mac OS tools - but then they are not all offered in a Suite to provide NTFS, HFS, Mac repair, etc.

Lion will have to modify the partition tables to add its own Windows 7-ish system recovery partition, so I would definitely get a good backup strategy in place - and tested - ahead of time. Contrary to the "shouldn't have any impact" I always see an impact, and also re-initialize drives when a new OS comes out (though maybe wait for the .2 release).
