BPC for NetWeaver OS requirement - Windows 2003 Standard vs. Enterprise

Hello BPC Expert,
I have a question in regard to the Windows Server 2003 edition for SAP BPC 7.0 for NetWeaver. On the Installation Guide of BPC NetWeaver SP03, the prerequisite for the Operating System for .NET Server component is Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.
My question: will Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition work for .NET component? We have a budget concern as the Enterprise Edition will cost couple more thousands than standard.
Thank you,
Bomo

Hi,
Yes you can use the Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition (32-bit and 64-bit). Shouldnt be a problem.
Thanks.

  • Windows 2003 Standard-Network Password-never had to enter before

I am on a server at my office.  My individual workstation is Win 7.  The server is Windows 2003 Standard.  Yesterday, I lost connectivity to the net work drives, and my computer is asking for a username and password to get into the server.
I did not do anything with intention....make changes.or install any new software.  My IT person does not know how to resolve this problem and can not access the server.
Does anyone here have suggestions how to fix this?
    AnnetteG

The server may need to be rebuilt. You can try an in-place upgrade. Integrate service pack, then do the in-place upgrade.

  • Migrating windows 2003 standard edition  to windows 2008 enterprise edition

    Hi
We are using ECC 5.0 and our PRD system is running on windows 2003 standard edition, and recently we have got some physical memory problem.as windows 2003 standard edition supports only 4 GB of RAM. and we want to extend our RAM for that we are planning to upgrade os to windows 2008 enterprise edition,is that possible.and after upgrading OS what are the activities that need to be performed for SAP to run succesfully, kindly suggest.
    Regards
    Pranav

    Hi Markus
I read note SAP Note 690432 - Windows 2003 Support in it regarding upgradation of os  windows 2003 standard edition to windows 2003 enterprise edition.
    Upgrade of Your Operating System
If you upgrade an existing SAP system to Windows Server 2003 perform the
    following actions:
    o Install the latest R3DLLINS
You find the latest dynamic link libraries R3DLLINS for Windows
Server 2003 on the EXT-Kernel CD in the NTPATCH directory.
o Replace the R/3 kernel with the EXT-Kernel.
If you do not replace it you will get error "SICK" after the first
    logon attempt after the start.
In this case, download the disp+work package(s) from the SAP
Service Marketplace at service.sap.com/patches and unpack the
    patch(es) to directory usr\sap\exe:
    dw*_<patch-level>
Use at least patch level 186.
o Use the latest saposcol version.
This version supports the changed performance counter of Windows
Server 2003 to determine values for ST06 and RZ20.
You can find the latest version in file saposcol_<Patch Level>.CAR.
    in the SAP Service Marketplace.
o SAP DB only: See SAP Note 315237.o Compatibility of the Hardware with Windows Server 2003
You can perform the upgrade to Windows Server 2003 only if the
hardware has been explicitly released for this purpose. To check,
    do one of the following:
    - If the Windows Server 2003 CD is available, check compatibility
with WINNT32.EXE in the \I386 directory. The exact statement
is: <DRIVE:>\I386\WINNT32 /CHECKUPGRADEONLY. The result is
stored as text file WINNT32.LOC in the present Windows
    directory (e.g. C:\WINNT).
    - The hardware has successfully passed SAP hardware certification
    (http://www.addon.de).
    - The hardware is contained in the Microsoft Hardware
    Compatibility List (http://www.microsoft.com/hcl).
    - The hardware has been released for Windows Server 2003 by the
manufacturer. This information is published on the
    corresponding website.
    o Kerberos Single Sign-On
When the SAP system is installed on Windows Server 2003 you can
setup the Kerberos Single Sign-On. If you use the kerberos protocol
the information exchanged between the SAP frontend and the
application server for authentication is encrypted.
The procedure for setting up Single Sign-On is described in all
recent installation guides which you can download from the SAP
    Service Marketplace at: service.sap.com/instguides.
o SAP domain under Windows Server 2003
Follow the instructions of the Windows documentation for the
migration of a Windows NT 4 domain to Windows 2003. For the SAP
environment some additional points need to be observed.
For Windows NT 4 there are two models for the SAP system domain:
    - Single domain
All users and the SAP system build one single domain. This
domain can be migrated to Windows Server 2003 and exist there
    as single domain.
    - Additional domain
There is one domain for the users and a second domain for the
SAP system(s). For a migration to Windows Server 2003 the SAP
system domain has to be created as child domain under the user
domain. A "Top-down" procedure is to be used. The higher domain
(the user domain) must be migrated prior to the SAP child
domain. If the user and SAP domain is part of a larger domain
structure the complete domain structure for Windows Server 2003
needs to be planned in a preparing phase. Usually, the
structure created under Windows NT 4 has to be re-arranged and
    consolidated.
The name space of the root domain and all sub-ordinated domains
has to be defined and the distribution of the DNS services
    needs to be determined.
    Note the following:
The SAP domain has to be created as child domain.
The SAP domain must not be converted into an organizational
unit (OU). OUs are not supported by R3SETUP and R3up.
in it nowhere it is mentioned about system copy so plz suggest.

  • BPC for Microsoft platform vis-a-vis BPC for Netweaver

    Hi,
What are the key differences (apart from platform) between BPC for SAP Netweaver & BPC for Microsoft platform? BPC 7.0 is integrated with Outlooksoft whereas BPC (based on Netweaver 7.5) needs Business Object. Is this understanding correct?
Which is a more a stable version? Appreciate if related URLs/ OSS Notes are shared.
    Thanks for your help.
    Prashant

From functionalities point of view are justfew slight sifferences between M and NW version of SAP BPC.
Just into background is the difference that M version is using just Microsoft technologies:
.NET Application Server developed into .NET technologies
OLAP database using SSAS from Microsoft
Relational Database using SQL Server database
and NW version is using standard SAP technologies:
    ABAP application server
OLAP datbase - part of BW
Relational Database - any database supported by NW
Regarding the performances between the two versions I will say it is depending by number of users and volume of data but in general are not big differences. If the design of application is done correct following the Best Practices documentantion I think the performances are more anlless the same.
In any case I don't see any reason to have both version of SAP BPC M and NW version.
You have to decide the right version function by IT requirements and future developments using NW or Microsoft technologies.
But it doesn't make sense to have BPC M and BPC NW for the same customer.
I hope this will help you.

  • Problem on installation of windows 2003 Standard Ed. 64 bit with 10 GB RAM

    Hi,
I'm trying to install the Oracle 10G R2 on Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition 64 bit on HP machine 64 bit.
My problem is that the Oracle is seeing just 4GB of RAM.
I found some Oracle notes that explain this problem for machine and OS with 32 bit.
    Any idea?
    Thanks,
    Sergio

    Are you installing Oracle 32-bit?
(In that case, the process virtual memory addressing is limited to 2^32 = 4GB. Note also it is virtual, not physical memory)
64-bit editions (e.g. for X64) are available from:

  • Windows 2003 Standard Edition (Cluster Configuration Storage page)

I am trying to install RAC R2 on windows Server 2003 (Standard Edition). I am using FireWire 800 SIIG to connect to Maxtor OneTouch III External HDD.
When installing cluster Services, i do not see the Cluster Storage Devices. When i go to Computer Management, i see all the partitions of the raw device.
One "Cluster Configuration Storage" page, the Available Disks show no partitions.
Oracle installtion documentation says "On the Cluster Configuration Storage page, identify the disks that you want to use for the Oracle Clusterware files and, optionally, Oracle Cluster File System (OCFS) storage. Highlight each of these disks one at a time and click Edit to open the Specify Disk Configuration page where you define the details for the selected disk"
In my case, i do not see any disks. What am i missing?
    Any Thoughts. Please advise

You have a more fundamental problem, Firewire disks will not work for RAC on Windows. The storage needs to be shared, Firewire disks can't be shared on Windows. On Linux, Oracle took the open source firewire driver and modified it to allow more than one host to connect. On Windows the driver is closed source so they can't do that.
I presume you are wanting to try-out RAC on Windows, If so another solution may be to download one of the many iSCSI Servers that are available. Microsoft ship an iSCSI Initiator for Windows, this allows you to share a 'block device' which is what RAC needs - then you can choose your RAC Database storage method of choice, ASM, OCFS, RAW. I prefer ASM

    Hi all,
Can anybody tells me where I can find the corresponding Installation Master Software and the SAP Kernel 6.40 Unicode for installation on Windows 2003 x64 (amd64).
I can not find it on the SAP Marketplace myself.

    Hi Paul,
Normally you should find it on the following path:
Download => Installations and Upgrades => Entry by Application Group => SAP NetWeaver => SAP NETWEAVER => SAP NETWEAVER 04 => Installation and Upgrade => Windows Server => <your DB>.....
Installation Master MS SQL (for example) for the Windows X64 is a CD named 51031282...
Hope you can find the one you are looking for....

Ps.: If you can't see or find the right CD/DVD's it could also point to missing authorization on the Marketplace...

  • Best practice for # of drives for Oracle on a Windows 2003 server

I need to know what the best practice is concerning the # of drives that should be built on a Windows 2003 server to ensure best performance and most effective back up and recovery, for both the application itself and the data base.
I'm not certain, but it may be only a 32 bit machine. I'll update this once I know for sure.

We are in the process of migrating our Oracle 10 database (20G) to a new maschine.
How should we configure our disks (8 in total)?
    1. SAME: "Stripe and mirror everything"?
    2. Doc 30286.1 "I/O tuning with different RAID configurations" and 148342.1 "Avoiding I/O disk contention" say:
    database files on RAID01
redo and archive logs on RAID1
    temp on RAID1
So, what is the best practice?

  • Very long search times from an IMac running 10.6.7 Snow Leopard when searching for files on a windows 2003 server

    The issue is as follows:
The Imac is connected to the  windows 2003 server via SMB type connection.
There are four sub folders in the main directory. We go to one of the sub folders in this case Server.
We go to search window and type the file name that we want to search such as test .
The choices selected for search parameters are Server for location and contains (same results if picked by file name)
Search takes roughly 6 minutes before it returns the result.
If we do the same search on the old Mac Server it will take 15 seconds to complete using same search parameters.
Any ideas on how to speed up search times to the Windows 2003 Server? I have tried going to finder preferences and removing the sharing section. That did not help.

    Okay, I've....
    1) Reinstalled XE, to start from scratch
    2) Went in to SQL*Plus, did a "create pfile from spfile;"
    3) Shutdown the database
    4) Started it up in MOUNT mode
    5) Ran NID, to change the database name from 'XE' to 'CTXMGMT'
    6) Shutdown the database again
    7) Edited the pfile to change the database name (i.e. "db_name='CTXMGMT'")
    8) Started up the database
And that worked! So that's good... but now my question is:
How do I change the SID for the database? Currently, the instance name for the database is still 'XE'....
    SQL> select instance_name
    2 from v$instance;
    INSTANCE_NAME
    xe
I'd like it so a connection could be made to the database with the tnsnames.ora file looking like this:
    CTXMGMT =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(Host = rodin)(Port = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = CTXMGMT))
Could someone explain how to get the database to this state? Thanks.

There are ways of doing in-place upgrades (see Note 1494740 - SAP system migration from Windows 2003 to 2008 (R2) 64-bit) but since the hardware drivers changed from 2003 to 2008 you may have a hard time getting the system back up after you do an in-place upgrade.
I would do a homogeneous system copy, that's the safest way.
