BPC migration to 7.0

Hi,
We have just migrated from 5.1 SP9 to 7.0 SP5.
When trying to process my dimensions from Member sheet, I get the following error:
"ActiveX component can't create object. Cannot save member sheet to the server". Also when connected to Excel, none of the dimension members are there, it's all blank.
I did a "Modify application" on each of my applications, and selected "Process application".
Any idea what could be my problem?
Thanks
Camille

Hi,
Thanks all for your answers. SAP support also replied to me with this note which solved my pb.
Note 1388407:
Symptom:
When modifying any dimension member sheet and saving it to the server, we are getting the following error:
Split File Error!!
Cannot save member sheet to the server; do you want to save it to the local machine?
Cause
This error is related to the XceedZip.dll library not being correctly registered on the application server and/or on the client machine.
Resolution
1. Copy x:\bpc\websrvr\web\<installation directory>\xceedzip.dll from the application server to your client machines in x:\program files\bpc;
2. Unregister it and re-register it, using resp. regsvr32 -u "x:\Program files\BPC\XCeedzip.dll" and regsvr32 "x:\Program files\BPC\XCeedZip.dll" at DOS commmand prompt;
3. Copy x:\bpc\websrvr\web\<installation directory>\xceedzip.dll from the appserver to x:\bpc\websrvr\bin;
4. Unregister it and re-register it, using resp. regsvr32 -u "x:\bpc\websrvr\bin\XCeedZip.dll" and regsvr32 "x:\bpc\websrvr\bin\XCeedZip.dll" at DOS commmand prompt;
5. Finally, from the Administration Console, on the Application Set node, click Refresh client-side dimensfion files;
6. Exit and log again to the Administration Console through the Connection Wizard and it should work.

  • Collation problem on BPC migration.

We are doing a migration from V4.2 to V7.0 BPC on microsoft plataform.
The new database has the correct collation 'SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS' but the V4.2 back up was from a database which collation is 'Finnish_Swedish_CI_AS'
Now we have problems with column collation in the restored backup. We can't change column collation because there are index using the columns.
Anybody have any idea how to proceed? We strongly appreciate it.
    Best Regards.

    Hi dude!
In fact, you can run program InstColl.exe to convert to SQL_LATIN1_GENERAL_CP850_BIN2, but unfortunately it does only run on a SQL Server 2000 SP4 database. Then:
      (a) if your database is SQL Server 2000 but you did not apply SP4, you should apply it and then run the instColl.exe.
      (b) if your original database was SQL Server 2000, but you upgraded e.g. to SQL Server 2005/2008, you can restore a backup on a SQL Server 2000 SP4 database instance; then you will be able to run instColl.exe and only after having run it you will be able to upgrade to SQL Server 2005/2008.
      (c) if your database is other than SQL Server 2000, e.g. SQL Server 2005, the only option is to export the entire database and then import it with the correct collation (just like in a system copy) by means of R3trans, as unfortunately you cannot detach a SQL Server 2005 database and then attach it to a SQL Server 2000.
Find the details in SAP notes 505906 and 600027.
    Cheers!!

  • BPC Migrate to 7.0SP03

    Hi
I am trying to migrate an appset from BPC 5.1 on SQL server 2000 to a new server with BPC 7.SP03 and SQL server 2008.
Did try to export the appset from the old server and restore it on the new server, but that does not work.
Have looked at the upgrade guide, but it does not explain how to solve my situation.
What are the main steps i need to do, to be able to move my appset from the old server to the new one?
    Help greatly appriciated.
    Jesper

Is the 7.0 server a single server, or multi-server (separate DB & app servers)? I'm not too familiar with SQL 2008, but I know on 2005 there are some options / limitations on whether a DB restore can be done from a "remote" location. From the DB server's point of view, the app server is a "remote" location.
Or are you trying to restore from a .BAK that's saved on a network share? If so, try moving it to the app server's local drive.
If neither of those apply to you, you might also look into the SQL Server documentation (or Google for info on that error). The BPC Server Manager is just kicking off a standard DB restore, under the sys admin's user privileges.
It may be that the security settings of the BPC sys admin user aren't set up properly in SQL Server. Did you perform the SQL Server install yourself? If not, check with the person who did, to make sure all the steps in the BPC install guide were followed explicitly.

    Hi,
Using the migration tool might require 2-3 weeks or more than that, depending on the number of customized objects. BPFs need to be re designed. SSIS packages need to be replicated using process chains.
Manual would mean re-implementation and will take a much longer time.
    Hope this helps.

  • Silent uninstallation of BPC client 5.1

    Hi all,
I'm working on a BPC migration (5.1 => 7.5), and I'm confronted to an issue on the client side:
I found a way for the install / unistall the 7.5' in silent mode with the msi, but couldn't find a way to do so to uninstall the 5.1'.
Does anyone know how to do it?
We want to automatized the uninstall of the 5.1' client, and then the installation of the 7.5.
    Thank you,
    Vincent BAICHERE

    Hi,
There is actually no announced command of silent uninstallation, then only way you can try to find out a clue and try.
We can get a hint from the registry, it seems to introduce MS installer and it has a parameter of uninstallation in silent mode. Forgive me I cannot give you all detail step, and just provide where you can get a hint.
    1. Go to Start button in your desktop.
    2. Launch "RUN"
    3. Key in "Regedit"
    4. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE hive
    5. Navigate the key until you find UNINSTALL: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\UNINSTALL
    6. You may find UNISTALLATION command string with GUID for BPC Client.
    7. I think you can do trial and error with a parameter of uninstall of MS installer.
    Hope this helps,

    Hi Krishan,
The length of property ID should not be more that 20 characters and the description has a limitation for 60 characters. Otherwise there is not limit as such to add properties.

  • SAP BPC 7.5 to EPM 10.0 migration

    Dear Experts,
We are about to migrate our BPC application from Version 7.5 sp5 to EPM 10.0 as a part of a server upgrade.
Presently we have taken a backup of the AppSets (1 planning and 1 consolidation application- no scheduled loads, no master data update- a very humble and simple BPC with countable number of reports and input schedules) from our older system using UJBR.
Will the restore program (UJBR) handle the Appset restore into EPM 10.0.
I wanted to make sure if all the important points are touched before we give a go-ahead to bring our primitive server down.
I read in SDN that EvDRE reports wont function and there might be a probable MS Excel EPM 10.0 addin conflict. Other than this is there anything we should be aware of before hand viz., components to be backed up, pathces to be installed, etc.
I want to make sure we have a really smooth migration process. Your guidance is much appreciated.
    Thanks a lot in advance

    Hi,
**In BPC10 you can use same UJBR to restore appset from back up file.
**From BPC10 SP04  onwards EvDre is also supporting.
    Thanks,
    Raju

  • BPC 7.5 MS Migration From 7.0 MS

    Hello Experts,
We have installed new full install 7.5 MS ( Windows 2008/SQL 8) .
This is our test system and we want to know if we can migrate our existing 7.0 MS (2003/ SQL 8) to this new installation.
The upgrade document has Chapter 4 - Migrate Application Sets from 7.0, is it ok to follow the steps.
    Procedure:
    1.
In the Administration Console, choose Modify Application, without selecting any options. This applies several fixes related to business rules and send governor.
If the application status is "not processed", choose Modify Application, and select all options. To check the application status for an application, choose View application set statistics in the Manage Application Sets action pane.
    NOTE
This is only relevant if you are installing Planning and Consolidation 7.5 SP01 or later.
If the regional language option of your Planning and Consolidation server is not English (for example, French, or German), choose Modify Application with the Process Application checkbox selected. This changes the application language property to English to overcome a conflict in decimal values.
    2.
A new parameter for validating business rules has been added to the SPRUNELIM, SPICDATA, and SPICBOOKING stored procedures. You must update each logic file that calls one or more of these stored procedures by doing the following:
    1.
Log on to the Administration Console.
    2.
Expand Manage Logic Library, and open a logic file (such as Consolidation_Library.lgl) that call one or more of the three stored procedures.
    3.
Add the [%SCOPETABLE%] parameter to each statement that calls each of the stored procedures.
    4.
Validate and save the logic file.
4 Migrate Application Sets from 7.0
    2010-11-25 PUBLIC 13/24
    5.
Repeat steps 2–4 for each logic file that calls at least one of the stored procedures.
For more information about the new stored procedure, see SAP Note 1374381.
    3.
Copy AuditClear.dts and AuditRestore.dts from the previous version of ApShell to your application sets after installing Planning and Consolidation 7.5. See SAP Notes 1355574 and 1357279.
    Copy from:\\<FileServer>\..\WebFolders\ApShell\Planning\DataManager\PackageFiles\Examples
    Copy to:\\<FileServer>\..\WebFolders\<Application Set>\<Application>\DataManager\PackageFiles\Examples.
    4.
If you already have By User security reports, update existing reports by choosing the Publish By User report in Web Administration. See SAP Note 1365430.
    5.
If you have a SQL Server 2005 environment, copy Copy from fact table.dtsx from ApShell to your application sets. See SAP Note 1365446.
    Copy from:\\<FileServer>\..\WebFolders\ApShell\Planning\DataManager\PackageFiles\Examples
    Copy to:\\<FileServer>\..\WebFolders\<AppSet>\<App>\DataManager\PackageFiles\Examples
    6.
Planning and Consolidation 7.5 has new tasks. To apply the new tasks, go to the Admin console and run Modify Task Profile without any changes to the existing task profile (reprocess), or create new task profiles for each task and assign appropriate users. See SAP Note 1382583.
If you choose to reprocess existing task profiles:nTÍät
If the task profile type is System Admin, the OfflineAccess task is applied.nTÍät
If the task profile type is Primary Admin, the RemoveBPFInstances, ResetBPFInstances, and ManageEVDREDefaultStyle tasks are applied.nTÍät
The administrator must add the ReOpenBPFStep and PackageExecute tasks to the appropriate task profile.
    7.
The ApShell in 7.5 includes the Import SQL or Import SQL into Fact packages that prompt you to enter the SQL database. (In versions 5.1 and 7.0, the prompt was missing.)
To apply the packages, copy the packages from ApShell to your application after upgrading to 7.5. Then modify the package script for your application dimensions.
    Copy from:<FileServer>\WebFolders\ApShell\Planning\DataMnager\PackageFiles\Examples
    Copy to:<FileServer>\WebFolders\<AppSet>\<App>\DataMnager\PackageFiles\Examples
4 Migrate Application Sets from 7.0
    14/24 PUBLIC 2010-11-25
    See SAP Note 1355877.
    8.
In Planning and Consolidation 7.5, dynamic reports and schedules are provided in EvDRE format. They work in any application. If you want to use new dynamic reports and schedules templates, copy the changed templates from the following location:\\<FileServer>\..\WebFolders\ApShell\Planning\eExcel\Input Schedules (and Reports)\Wizard
For more information about ApShell, see SAP Note 1349656.
    9.
If an application set has a custom OLAP partition, you must re-create the partition after restoring the application set (see SAP Note 1395795).
    NOTE
The following actions no longer require you to select Process Application when modifying an application (see SAP Note 1284857):!ì,ŠÍQ
    Applying the SIGNED_DATA_FORMAT application parameter!ì,ŠÍQ
Applying newly created or modified stored procedures
4 Migrate Application Sets from 7.0
    2010-
Please let us know if we are missing any steps here.
    Best Regards,
    Kannan.M

    Hi Raoul,
    1. Your understanding is correct.
I dont see any big advantage of installing a separate BI system. However, if you have the BPS or BCS components activated in the exisitng BI system, then you wont be able to install BPC. BPC requires EHP to be installed. But this cannot be installed if BPS component is there. So, in that case, you need to consider a new BI system. Apart from that, I dont see any reason for having a new BI system.
    2. In terms of migration, there are few things which you can definitely copy without using the migration tool. For example, when you are trying to create a new dimension and its members. The members from MS can be copied into the NW admin console and then the processing can be done to create the requisite structures at backend. Similarly, you can copy the existing reports and input schedules as well. You can even copy the data. You can export the data from the applications in the MS version. Then use the import DM to upload the data flat file into NW.
    Hope this helps.

  • BPC Security Migration

I'm wondering how people migrate security between environments i.e. production to development.
Security is typically quite different in development vs. production.  Some users will have more access in development and some users will not be active in development.  Also in some cases, users may have different id's because they are on different domains.  This means that there are many changes that need to be made before the development environment can be used.
In version 4 of OutlookSoft, security was all contained within an Excel workbook which made it very easy to apply these types of changes very quickly.  For example, there was a column that indicated whether or not a user was active.  You could very quickly go through this column and change users from Yes to No.  Also, security could be processed all at one time.
In BPC, there are many dialog boxes to go through which is time consuming.  There does not seem to be a way to flag a user as inactive.  I notice that the field still exists in the database table but it is not in the UI.  Also, it seems that each of the Task Profiles, Member Access Profiles, and Teams needs to be saved whenever an appset is restored or else you will get errors.  There does not seem to be a way to process the security so you do not have to visit each of these dialog boxes.
Is anyone automating this type of migration by modifying the database tables directly instead of going through the UI?

Furthermore, in the corporate environment we are in today (i.e. SOX, Enron, etc.), current customers would be very WEARY to implement a "workaround" (not endorsed by the vendor) to migrate security settings into a live production environment.
I suggest you send an enhancement request via the SAP Support portal and ask that something like this be implemented in the next release of BPC.
As a starter here are some security functions that I think should be automated via a menu option in the Security UI of BPC:
    Importing Security Information
    -Import ALL Security info.
    -ImportUsers
    -ImportUserGroupNames
    -ImportUserGroupMembers
    -ImportPrivileges
    Exporting Security Information
    -Export ALL Security info.
    -ExportUsers
    -ExportUserGroupNames
    -ExportUserGroupMembers
    -ExportPrivileges
    Deleting Security Information
    -DeleteUsers
    -DeleteUserGroups
    -DeleteUserGroupMembers
    -DeletePrivileges
