BPC NW Backups

Hello there!
I would like to know if some of you can help me about to do the backup and restore process in BPC NW 7.0, as you know in BPC MS version in the Server Manager we have that options, but not in NW version.
Thanks for your help.
Regards!

Sorry, didn't notice that it's 7.0.
Do you need that copy just for security reasons or you want to make a copy of your AppSet? If you need it for security reasons won't BW copy be enough?

  • BPC 10.0 Input Schedule refresh : investigating performance issues on frontend side

    Hello,
We are running SAP BPC NW 10.0 SPS8.
We recieve a lot of complaints regarding performance issues.
More specifically BPC Input Schedule refresh takes ages (11 minutes actually)
I am a SAP Basis Administartor with some solid BW experience, but very linited BPC knowledge.
So raf we have tried the following :
    * BPC Full and light ptmimize of the BPC Cubes.
    * Updating Oracle Statistics
    * Activating ABAP/SQL traces*
    * Checking USJTAT Logs
Then it rutned out that the perfromance problems werre not caused by the backend SAP BW server (only 9 seconds of bakend  processing are displayed in UJSTAT).
The overwhelming majority of the processing is spent on the frontend side : on the computer of the user.
We really would like to know what is happening on BPC Frontend side, but are really lacking any investigative method .....
other that  checking memory/CPU usage o nthe frontend computer.
From your experience, is there any tool/method to allow to conduct some investigation on what is going on the frontend side, when a BPC Input Schedule is refreshed ?
    Thank you for your attention.

    Hello Vadim,
We still need to get confirmation from the external consultants who developed the BPC solution, but as far as I can understand it :
We do not use use member formulas
We are indeed talking about EPM (without EPMRetrieveData functions)
The perfromance  problems occur in DEV and QAS , after a restore of the BPC environment (backup from PRD)
We already had the problem in the past, but we never knew precisely how to solve it, it is as if there was some missing links between the restored BPC environment from PRD and the DEV/QAS system
One additional information, we checked the EPM CLient Log , and here are the errors displayed while refreshing the input schedule :
The thing is that I have no idea what it means ...

  • Copying an environment between servers

I am looking for instructions on copying my production environment to my Development server as an archive environment. Is there a way to use the BPC Administrator to do this or is using the backup/restore process in the BPC server manager (which by the way has issues with backing up the SQL data within the BPC process. a SQL backup from SSMS is necessary) the required process.

  • BPC backup and restore Q&A...

    Dear all:
See below, and please share your knowledge!
    Situation
We are in the phase of modifying existing structure. We would like to back up what's in the Production server, and restore onto Development Box and develop and test our modification there using the latest data we have.
    Data
We have a production server, which SQL service and BPC service are running on separate physical server (as I was told), and a development box, which SQL and BPC are running together in one box.
A_PRODUCTION is the App Set in the Production Server
A_DEV is the App Set in the Development Box.
Below are what I have done and failed:
    1.
    a. I used "Server Manager" to back up A_PRODUCTION.
    b. I then copied and pasted the backup folder (in which has Web, File, SQL etc sub folders) to the Development Box.
    c. I used "Server Manager" to restore by selecting the backup folder. The Server Manager was able to allocate all the backup files and SQL db.
    d. My Web and File folders are OKed during restore, but my SQL restore failed with an error message.
    2.
    a. We tried to open SQL Server Management Studio, and manually restore the A_PRODUCTION SQL backup (*.BAK) to A_DEV of Development box.
    b. We received the error message, System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: RESTORE detected an error on page (0:0) in database "A_PRODUCTION" as read from the backup set. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo).
    c. We went to option and checked "Overwrite existing database" and still failed to restore.
    3.
    a. I logged on to Development Box's BPC Web Admin, and tried to create an App Set that has the same name A_PRODUCTION as my live database in the Production Server.
    b. The App Set creation failed at OLAP service with an error message saying something about "SalesPerson" column was not found or something.
    c. I noticed that a database named A_PRODUCTION is created Development Box.
    d. I tried method 1 and 2 again to A_PRODUCTION of the Development Box and failed.
    Question
What is wrong with my approach?
I have referenced the document https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/20a26f50-4252-2a10-8c97-a2c7058cd804, and am confused why we have to backup the master database.
Secondly, in the document, quoted "Restore Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Database(s): Restore the most recent database backup for APPSERVER, and each of the application set databases.
(ApShell/ApShellExtra)", what is the difference between "the most recent database backup for APPSERVER", and "each of the application set databases"?
At last, in the document, quoted "You must use an u2018Open File Agentu2019 to backup Data files that may be in use by the web server.", what does it mean by using an Open File Agent? Is it a type of agent in SQL backup service, or an agent in general that is able to back up open files?
    Thank you!

    Kranthi and Akim:
    Thanks for the reply...
Kranthi: With BPC Admin ID, I did go back to *BPC Administration\Manage Security* and re-saved the configuration, and I did see the table update in *Database Engine\AppServer\tblAppSetAccess*. I could then grant my Windows ID rights to "everything", but was only able to access BPC Administration.
Akim: Can you be more specific about delete/recreate orphaned users? Did you mean deleting/creating via SQL Analysis Services AppServer\tblAppSetAccess, or via BPC Administration\Manage Security? In addition, when you mentioned "reset permissions from the application itself", did you mean to modify Task, Member Access Profile, Team, and User, and re-save them again with the same settings?
I am sorry that this thread has become longer than expected. Here are some updates:
    1. I have two Application Sets which my Windows ID can access: AppShell (default) and App_Dev
    2. I tried to create a new Application Set "App_Dev1" by copying from App_Dev (unchecked database, biz process flows, content library, and live reports). Then I logged in as BPC Admin and added my Windows ID to the System Admin Team, which was modified to have full access to everything. Again the same problem occured -- I could access App_Dev1's BPC Administration area but could not access BPC Excel; same error messages popped out.
    3. I tried to create a new  Application Set "AppShell1" by copying from AppShell (same unchecked everything). Then I logged in as BPC Admin and added my Windows ID to the System Admin Team, which was modified to be able to access everything. Same result as #2
    4. I tried to add myself to the System Admin Team of original AppShell, and I could open BPC Excel.
My experiments so far concluded the followings:
--No problem with App_Dev and AppShell in the Development Box
--I could grant myself access to everything in any new Application Set, but only was able to access BPC Administration
--BPC Admin ID and my Network Administrator (Domain Admin)'s Windows ID has no problem opening BPC Excel in any Application Set.
What concerns me now is that even a copy from AppShell is not working as expected... My Network Administrator said it is not an easy process to reinstall BPC Development Server, but I think that's perhaps the only way to fix everything, if the root causes remain mysterious.
If you have any insightful tip, please share with me as I have spent over a week and cannot progress further... Thank you!!!!

  • How to create a Backup of a BPC Application Set?

    Hello,
I have been browsing the forum for a short while now but didn't find the answer that I needed, I work for a BPC Consutlancy and would like to know how an Application Set can be BACKED UP in the NetWeaver using the Data Warehousing Workbench in NetWeaver BI 7.0
I have searched the online SAP Help and that does not seem to cover this area, although there was a recall to Server Manager but I don't think you can do BackUp's using the Server Manager.
I came  across a post last night that mentioned a third party tool by RIG that is used for Migration but there is also a tool available to create Backups of AppSets.
I have a requirement to set up a BACKUP and TRANSPORT STRATEGY, and would like to know that aside from using SAP TRANSPORTS does the facility exist directly using SAP NW Data Warehousing Workbench to BACKUP an Application set?
    I would appreciate the advice.
    Thanks
    Saqib.

    Hi,
The way I do a backup of an AppSet is as follows:
    1) Log on to the server
    2) Open the Server Manager (program)
    3) Via AppSet (see top of the window of SAP Server Manager) > click on: Backup AppSet
    4) Indicate which AppSet you want to backup + the location of the backup file you want it in
    5) Wait for the backup to take place
    Cheers!

  • Best approach for backup and transport (NW BPC 7.5)

    Hi,
we are currently in a situation, where we have developed a prototype in a Q (quality) envoirnment. This has been a standalone system sofar.
Now we have a Development->Quality->Production envoirnment - and I want to move my prototype from the Quality system to my Development system.
I'm thing about the "UJT_BACKUP_RESTORE_UI" program. I will not copy masterdata and transactional data.
My question is now. Is it possible to backup my Appset prototype in Quality and restore it under a new Appset Name in development, and then put in it a transport request ?
Or would I have problems with technical names for cubes and dimensions ?
What is the best approach ?
    Thank you,
    Joergen

    Hi,
First of all, you should have posted your question in the BPC for NW forum.
Coming back to your question, you can try the transaction UJBR. You can take the backup of metadata / masterdata / transaction data or any combination of those.
I wont suggest you to change the name of the backup files. Instead, you can create a copy of the appset and then take the backup and restore it in DEV.
    Hope this helps.

  • BPC Backup using Server Manager is failing when "compressing webfolders"

I'm using the Server Manager UI to backup my production environment and it keeps failing during the "compress webfolders" step. Any ideas why this would happen?
    Thanks,
    Kristi

    Hi Sorin,
I am getting 2 errors when i tried to do a backup, i.e. "Cannot compress the webfolders" and " Process error ; check the SQL server connection".
With regards to the first error, i can successfully go to BPC\Data\Webfolders\<appset> and perform a compress though it has a size of 5Gb. What does that say?
      How about the SQL error?
As a result, i still have 3 folders, i.e. FileDB, SQL and WebFolder, but only FileDB contains a "<appset>.zip", the other 2 folders are empty.
    Thanks and regards

  • Backup and Restore Appset in BPC NW 7.0

    Hello all,
How can we take Backup of all application sets on our BPC NW 7.0  server?
In BPC MS, we used to do it through server manager but in BPC NW there is no such option visible in Server Manager !
Also tell, once I take the Backup how can I restore it back in the Server in BP NW 7.0 environment.

    Hi Rich,
We are facing an issue while running the program UJT_BACKUP_RESTORE_UI in BPC NW 7.50.04.1001. It used to work fine and then we started to receive "SYSTEM_NO_ROLL" dump in our production system and now since we refreshed our QA with the production so we are seeing the same error in QA too. One consultant mentioned that the size of our MetaData fiel which is about 144 MB might be too big for the program to handle. But I just wanted to get some epxert adivce from you regarding this program.
I will highly appreciate if you can shed some light on the issue we are facing.

  • BPC Transports vs backup/restore

    BPC Gurus:
We have implemented BPC just a few months ago and are new to it. Have a question for all experts on the appset code migration.
Need to know the best practices around the code migration from dev to qa and hence production.

Transports and backup/recovery but need help in understanding what is the proper and best strategy.

    Hi,
BPC for MS uses the backup and restore mechanism for this purpose. You need to login to the server system and then go to the BPC server manager. You need to use the backup tool to backup an application set. This will save the backup files on the server machine. Then you can copy these files to the destination server, and run the restore tool to restore the appset.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi Ravi,
Transporting data manager files in file server is not Supported in NW 7.0 to my knowladge.
    Using transaction code SM30
    UJT_TRANS_CHG
    if Subobject
is not set D Changes for the Sub object will not be transported.
In my experience  QA build is done when Build reaches a stable state in Dev where no changes done in the DataModel, from there on any changes in the front end Input Schedules or Report Template in moved manually between the file servers as application names remain the same.Hope it helps.

  • BPC 7.5 SP6 Backup & Restore of AppSet

Hi - We are currently on BPC 7.5 SP6 and I'm trying to do a backup of an app set from production and restore it to dev.  The backup and restore seems to work fine.  I don't get any errors and I can see the data on back-end.
But, when I open a template from the restored version in dev and do an expand, no data is brought back.  I'm using transaction UJBR, selecting Execute Restore, in Foreground, using the same app set name as production, restoring metadata, master data and transaction data.  I also selected to use tech names from backup files.
Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

    Hi ,
After Back up Appset Restore Did you process your dimensions, and also by doing refresh dimension members and then create sample EVDRE report to see if new data is reflecting.
You can also look in to PC_NW client logs if any error occurs there and check in UJA_datachecker see if find any info.
    Thanks,

  • Any way to exclude BPC security settings and profiles from backup/restore?

We are on BPC 10 MS and restoring the PROD version to a DEV environment, but do not want to restore the security profiles.   Need to figure this out before new BPC development is sent back to PROD with same b/u restore process.  DEV security is different than PROD and we do not want the security profiles/settings in DEV to overlay PROD...

No automate process to maintain different set of users in both environments while restoring . Manually manage after refreshed based on required user profiles.

  • Backup Stored Procedure SAP BPC MS

    Hi All,
I am looking for a way to emulate the back-up procedure that gets initiated by the back-up in server manager. I would imagine that it is a stored procedure/+COM component that gets fed both the application set name and the folder path. If i had this i could schedule backups easily with a batch job.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    AvdB

    Hi,
You don't need to use Xceedzip.dll.
    Backup with server manager means:
    Backup of SQL Server database
Zip (with winrar or winzip) of folder "nameofappset" from FileDB folder
Zip (with winrar or winzip) of folder "nameofappset" from Webfolders
After that these files has to be put into a folder with follow structure:
    "appset name"
        - SQL (folder) and inside a file: "appsetname".bak (sql backup)
        - FileDB (folder) and inside a file "appsetname.zip" (zip of folder from filedb)
        - Webfolder (folder) and inside a file "appsetname.zip" (zip of folder from webfolder
This can be used after that to be restored with server manager.
I hope this will help you to create your automate backup.

  • BPC 7.0 Authomatic Backup

    Hi !
To backup my applications I always use the procedure from Server Manager - Backup.
I would like to automate this procedure to have a nightly backup scheduled.
Some of you have never come across this need??
    Thanks,
    Fabiola

    Hi Fabiola,
    Server Manager backup means:
    - Backup of SQL Server "yourppaset" database
    - Zip of Webfolders for "your ppaset"
    - Zip of filedb for "your appset"
I think this is very easy to be automate creating a job into SQl doing these 3 tasks.
Server Manager can not be use to automate this process.
    I hope this will help.
