BPEL 10.1.3 Documentation and tutorial

It seems to me that most of the oracle bpel documentation are mainly for 10.1.2. I would like to know if a cook book or something similar exist for 10.1.3. I have searched the web but most documentation seems to elaborate on 10.1.2.

That is not correct. The current version is 10.1.3 for a few years now.
See my blog http://orasoa.blogspot.com and search for 'newbie'. You will get a list of URL to documentation and download.
If you download SOA Suite 10.1.3 you get the all the software including the documentation / samples / tutorials.

  • Oracle BPEL Process Manager- latest API and developer's documentation.

This is regarding Oracle BPEL Process Manager.
I'm planning to integrate the same, for review or prototype purpose, so need to know about the API documentation and developer's guide if available.
The API documentation available seems to be inadequate as it does not document the collaxa APIs (for example) so need to know any documentation available to integrate Oracle BPEL Process Manager as workflow engine.
What I'm looking for is the API documentation, developers guide for integrating Oracle BPEL Process Manager APIs etc.
Developer's guide to manage the development of business process lifecycle of deploying, executing and managing business processes programmatically, using the Oracle BPEL Process Manager, v2.0.11 API Specification.

For the Java API, please take a look at the Java Doc in c:\orabpel\docs. You can also learn about those API by looking at the implementation of the BPEL console (given that the BPEL console is built mostly on the public API of the engine. There are also a few tutorials (02.Invoking A BPEL Process) which highlight how one can invoke a BPEL process through the Java API both locally and remotely).

  • PDF or HTML for mobile Technical Documentation and Newsletters

    Hi,
I've been reviewing the pros and cons for PDF and HTML for mobile technical documentation and newsletters and wanted to get your honest thoughts on this.
    Here's the scenario:
I need to create  mobile technical documenation and newsletters that are interactive, i.e. video, commenting/annotating, links, forms, etc.
Given how the mobile publishing market is rapidly evolving, what is the most practical format, (with minimum format issues) to use for both short term and long term?  PDF or HTML?  Why?
Based on your choice, which format would you use for non-interactive documents that offers the most creative options and usability?  Why?
    Paul

Hyper Text Markup Language ( HTML ) is going to work better.  Mainly because the way mobile is setup, the interface has to conform to the device and with the other elements coded into the interface, HTML is far better.  You keep referring to usability, so even in non-interactive scenarios in mobile documentation, you're better off using HTML.

  • DBMS_LDAP package documentation and samples

Where can I find the DBMS_LDAP package documentation and samples to use it to connect to OID from pl/sql blocks.
    TIA,
    Nishant

I have been successful using the PL/SQL DBMS_LDAP utilities and enhancing the included examples to bulk create portal users as well as adding them to a default portal group as outlined in the DBMS_LDAP demo examples (search.sql, trigger.sql, empdata.sql).
Using this PL/SQL trigger on the EMP table, I can add, delete or modify various user entries. However, while I can add a user to a default portal group, I have been unsuccessful in deleting a user from a group as well as modifying a users default group by deleting their "uniquemember" entry from one group and adding it to another using the DBMS_LDAP procedures.
Has anyone deleted a user from an existing group and how is this done programatically using the DBMS_LDAP utilities? Also, but less important, is there a way to programmatically modify a user from one portal group to another?
I don't necessarily want the code - just the method of doing this. Do I have to read in all of the 'uniquemember' attributes from the group (via DBMS_LDAP.populate_mod_array, for example), then manipulate the list and write it back. Or, is there a function that will allow me to delete or modify an entry in the 'uniquemember' attribute.

  • CRM Middleware Documentation and Training

Apologies as this is not a technical/functional question as such but I have been looking for SAP CRM Middleware documentation and/or training courses on the subject.
Particularly in relation to integration with Microsoft Exchange Server
So far I have found documentation on help.sap.com but little else. Nothing on integration with MS Exchange.
Firstly, does anyone know of any other good sources where this type of information can be found?
Secondly regarding training, the only course I have found has been the CRM Basics 5 day course that covers Middleware, but I don't know how in depth or even if it covers integration with Exchange.
Is anyone aware of any good CRM Middleware courses, preferably in the UK?
I would be grateful for any kind of help?
    Many Thanks

  • BPEL 10.1.2 hub-and-spoke or distributed architecture?

    Hi,
I'm currently wrestling with the following question:BPEL 10.1.2 hub-and-spoke or distributed architecture?
    Hi,
I'm currently wrestling with the following question:
An ESB as per definition of e.g. Forrester should be capable of supporting a distributed bus architecture. From my understanding this distributed bus architecture is achieved by installing some sort of ESB component(s) on all machines that are participating in this infrastructure, together forming a ‘bus’.
As I understand the BPEL 10.1.2 product basically offers two categories of functionality: orchestration and integration. Does this integration part offer ESB alike functionality and more specific allows for a distributed bus architecture? As far as I can see the BPEL 10.1.2 offers limited ESB alike functionality and only supports a hub-and-spoke architecture.
Other threads in this forum talk about using BPEL 10.1.2 together with InterConnect in order to foresee in ESB functionality. What does InterConnect add to the BPEL 10.1.2 integration functionality?
As of SOA suite 10.1.3 these products have been split up into a BPEL product and an ESB product. Is the ESB product in SOA suite 10.1.3 a combination of the integration from BPEL 10.1.2 and InterConnect? Is this new ESB product able to support a distributed architecture?
I’m very much in favor of a distributed architecture compared to hub-and-spoke, as hub-and-spoke requires a very solid and redundant system that is going to handling all message traffic and other functions. When moving towards a SOA giving an ESB a back-bone role, I’m not very keen on introducing a single system that should actually make up this ESB. Distributed would mean all machines are taking care of some basic functions resulting in a fully functional ESB, even when one or more machines are down.
Am I making sense with this? I would like to know how others are looking at these topics.
    Regards,
    Gershon Janssen

We are struggling with this issue too. The "all-pervasive" vision of the ESB visionaries, in my opinion, means that every node in my enterprise architecture should have access to the bus and I should be able to orchestrate anything that is running on any node in my architecture. We were told to think of an ESB as the equivalent of the hardware bus in computers. From that perspective I thought that:
    (1) BPEL and ESB functions would add a marginal increment to the licensing cost of an app server - I should be able to afford an "all-pervasive" architecture.
    (2) BPEL and ESB functions would add a "marginal increment" to the memory and resource foot-print. Again, I should be able to afford an "all-pervasive" architecture.
Are these two satisfied by Oracle's products ? Some vendors don't seem to support the above two. In that case there is a disconnect between the marketing and technology departments of the vendors. What am I missing ?
If BPEL engines and ESBs are priced very high, based on economics we will end up with a hub-and-spoke model.
    Thanks

  • Sap Documentation and the Spirit of Open Source

    Hi,
I have noticed that not all of SAP functions have documentation (for example in SAP CRM there are around 80.000 functions and many of them, I dare say most of them, have no documentation and I suppose this is the situation for all SAP solutions).
I spoke to someone from SAP and I was told that not all of them need to, as they are not supposed to be used by clients. I agree with this and moreover it would be a tedious process for SAP to do it now. But sometimes need arises to use this functions or at least know what they do.
And the standard search for Functions .....
One enters "dialog popup" in Short description and he gets nothing (in SAP CRM 3.1 SP06).
She/he has to enter "dialog Popup" and thus gets the function POPUP_TO_CONFIRM
It is LUDICROUS ! Need no say more !
I do have an idea, SAP community could help out.
If all the functions would be shared among the SAP developers from all over the world – I mean those who would like to participate in this project - all functions will have documentation in less than 1 year.
Let's take as example - PHP:
Every function is documented and an example is given.
Also, developers from all over the world add their own comments for each function.
There is a .chm help file very easy to search
    Plan:
There would be one main writer and one main reviewer for a function (I mean one could choose to do 100 functions, other 50, other 30, and so on).
Also, who wants could add his/hers comments.
    Objective:
To have a documentation (.chm file) as comprehensive as possible about all the functions in SAP.
Is this plan feasible ? Are there any volunteers ?
    Mihai

I can agree on some points but not others.  First, let's agree that dialog popup and popup dialog are two different search strings.  In SQL, this would produce "WHERE description like "%dialog popup%" which is clearly not equivalent to "%popup dialog%".  However, I feel your pain.  While the level of function docs is disappointing, how wonderful that we even have access to them at all!  One of the best parts of SAP is the fact that I don't have to guess "how that works".  I can go look and learn from the master code ... albeit slowly.
My understanding of German is non-existent.  Therefore, much of the comments that are available in the functions are lost on me.  That's a shame.  I would like to see an effort to get readable English comments out of these valuable German comments.  That' would take a native speaker's translation vs. a babelfish-like systran.  They just don't cut it.
Docs:  The level of SAP documentation in general, even for BAPIs, is appalling.  Maybe I just don't know where it is but from what I've seen, even the most complex BAPI docs are not worth the space they take up.
Case in point: BAPI_SALESORDER_CREATEFROMDAT2.  This is a rather complex BAPI which can create all manner of sales documents.  So let's say I want to build a configured sales order.  Let's hit the BAPI documentation:
<i>If the item is configurable, you need to enter the configuration data in the ORDER_CFGS_REF, ORDER_CFGS_INST, ORDER_CFGS_PART_OF and ORDER_CFGS_VALUE tables.</i>
That's it.  There might be a few more hints down the page but there are no examples, no "here's why you need to stick an A in field XYZ", etc.  This is why I rely on reading code and trying to gets hints from poorly translated German comments.  I generally get an answer but what a time waster that is!  If SAP is claiming that they don't document all functions because they are not "supposed to be used by clients", then how about fully documenting the BAPIs at least?  Those certainly ARE for use by clients.  That's their main purpose.
As a concept, I agree with you.  How to pull that off?  Personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable documenting any function that I've not had 1st hand experience with.  Even still, I've only used about 20% of the sales order BAPI's capability.  While that's 18% better than what SAP gives, I'm not sure I would be willing to take the time to document it given that I'm stretched to the max, in part, due to the lack of function docs!  Catch-22.
Good luck with the idea.  I'd like to see what other people's comments are.  I'm hoping that I'm missing some key documentation resources.  If nothing else comes from this thread, that would be great.
Maybe the SDN would provide a place/forum to store documentation that is created?  Not a forum ... more like SAP notes (which can be a helpful source of docs sometimes BTW).
    Thanks.

  • Photoshop CS3 Book and Tutorial Recommendations

    Hi there,
I am a beginner CS3 user. My main interest is in enhancing old graphic prints (not digital photography). By enhancing I mean changing colors, brightness, contrast, and sometimes redrawing a section of the original print. I typically scan the prints and save the images as tiff files that I then open in CS3. I'm running OSX 10.4.11.
There are numerous books on Photoshop CS3 on Amazon, but I am finding it difficult to make a choice. I would like book and tutorial recommendations from the Photoshop user forum community.
    Thanks!
    Al

I'll suggest a different tack altogether. As I'm a visually oriented, I find that being shown is far more effective than reading about things. Parsing intellectual abstractions (language) rather than dealing directly with the subject through imagery always seems like an extra labor... at least at the beginning until I have enough of a syntax built to enable contextual relevance.
With that preface I'd suggest you look at Deke McClelland's video tutorials now available online from Lynda.com. Start with "Photoshop CS3 One-on-One: The Essentials' followed by "Photoshop CS3 One-on-One: Beyond the Basics" and "Photoshop CS3 One-on-One: Advanced Techniques." After Deke's tutorials you will be prepared to dive into any of the many others Photoshop CS3 authors available on Lynda.com.
    http://movielibrary.lynda.com/authors/author/?aid=98
When I first started Photoshop, it was so dense and alien that, even with several books to help, I considered myself only a beginner even after a year or so of intense struggle. Then I ran into Deke's training and felt that I made a huge jump in comprehension and skill set in a very short time. I would watch the training and during the first go would do the examples. After once through I would work with PS for a bit to let the training sink in and then watch once more followed by more work. After the third viewing, I'd absorbed almost all I was going to and Deke's jokes were old so it was time to move on.
The training on Lynda.com is very reasonably priced for the value of the training and I would suggest Deke's tutorials to any beginner as a more effective way to start than books.
