BPEL FTP Adapter problems

Hi!
I have two problem using the FTP Adapter in a BPEL process.
The first can be described as follow: I have a BPEL process that incapsulates the FTP Adapter and it is deployed correctly on the BPEL default domain. It's working fine in a normal context with no error. Now I want to simulate a "read FTP Server" crash; so I put the FTP Server from which I'm reading off-line. When the GET module of the FTP Adapter tries to poll the server, it generates a Null Pointer Exception and on the server command window I can read, after a while, that the process state will be set to OFF. But when I enter in the console I always see the state ON! But the interesting question is: is there an automatic way to recovery the process and to restart it? I see that in the domain parameter there are two values: rcvAgentDelay (7200) and rcvThreshold (600). I tried to set them to some other values, for example (120) and (10), but the process still remains "blocked" and no new polling seems to happen.
The second problem is about the creation and the deploying on a new domain. I create a new domain called "bulk" and I tried to deploy my process on it but I can't do it due to the generation of many exception! Can I deploy a process with a FTP Adapter component inside on a domain different from the default one? And if the response is positive, like I think, can you summarize the most important steps of it and if I must configure some specific domain parameters?
Thanks a lot,
Busnelli.

OK, firstly I want to thank both of you, Rakesh and Maneesh.
Here are the details requested:
Operation System = Windows XP Pro SP2
BPEL Process Manager = 10.1.2
BPEL Server version = 2.2 (build 1361)
JDeveloper version = 10.1.2 (build 1811)
BPEL Designer version = 10.1.2 (build 050322)
Usually after any modification I'm used to restarting the BPEL server.
Today I have downloaded the "Oracle JDeveloper 10g (10.1.3) - Developer Preview" (I think to be the Post Beta 3) and as soon as possible I will try to use it.
Thanks to both!

Thanks Everybody for the prompt response .
    1) What error does one get when trying to connect to FTP Sever which only support active mode

    QUESTION

Does BPEL FTP Adapter supports active ftp mode (instead of passive).
    ANSWER
    ======
No, FTP Adapter only supports passive mode. For that purpose there is an Enhancement Request
already, the Bug 6866124 - NEED SUPPORT FOR PASSIVE FTP ADAPTER AND CUSTOM FTP
    COMMANDS :
    1. The FTP Server needs to be active for the Adapter to work. So, both FTP Server and the FTP adapter must be active for it to work.
Also you only support PASSIVE mode in our FTP JCA adapter. ACTIVE mode is currently
considered bad practice and a security vulnerability.
But, we would require both ACTIVE and PASSIVE modes.
    2. Custom commands are not supported. But, we need the samples for custom FTP Commands and support for it.
for example: quote site fixrecfm 90...

  • BPEL FTP Adapter Active Mode

Does BPEL FTP Adapter supports active ftp mode (instead of passive). Apparently the ftp site for one of the Interfaces uses FTP Adapter and that ftp server it is using supports ONLY active ftp sessions, NOT passive.
Want are configuration to made to changed to support active mode
oc4j-ra.xml for ACTIVE ftp and not passive

  • Urgent ! BPEL file and ftp adapter problem.

    Hi All!
I have created a bpel process having two partner links. One for the ftp adapter and one for the file adapter. I want the ftp adapter to poll the *.pdf files in the specified directory on the remote machine periodically and get them to my local machine here. For this I am using ftp adapter with read operation and with opaque schemas(because I want the files as they are without any transformation). I am using a receive activity with the ftp adapter, with the create instance box checked.
To write the file to the local machine I am using file adapter and write operation.File adapter also uses opaque schema. With this file adapter I am using invoke activity.Invoke is below the receive activity in the bpel process. I deployed this successfully on the default domain. I want the bpel process to run automatically, depending on the polling frequency given and create instances and bring the files to my machine.
    But it is not happening.
Can anybody tell me where I am going wrong. How to accomplish this? It is very urgent issue for me.
    Thanking in advance,
    Regards,
    Deepika.

    Hi All!
Now I am able to write files and also read files successfully with the remote server. I followed the same method described above.I am using binary format itself for pdf files. But I have to check the option 'to delete files after successful retrieval' to make this happen.I created several partnerlinks with the option in the ftp adapter not checked, but it is not working. Has anybody done successful retrieval without deleting the files at the remote server? If so please let me know.
    Thanking in advance,
    Regards,
    Deepika.

    Clemens,
It's very nice to know that guys like you are here to help people like me. I develope the same BPEL Project on a stand alone windows installation (BPEL Server 10.1.2.0.2) a Works perfectly.
I'm sure know the problem resides on the BPEL Server or the OAS. Besides updating the BPEL Server version what order suggestions do you have in mind????
What do you think about OAS R3??? Is it trusted to upgrade to R3 now????
Thank very much for your time.
    Cordially,

  • BPEL FTP adapter

    Hi everyone!
Is there anyone who can tell me where I can find some information about the usage of the FTP adapter included in BPEL PM 10.1.2.
    Thanks!

    Hi!
By the using of the beta FTP guide I have solved my doubts about the configuration of the adapters for getting and putting files on different FTP server.
But during the execution of the process I have noticed a strange thing in the BPEL server console. It seems to be a “great” delay between the activation of the process after the deploying and the effective transferring of files from server1 to server2. I mean, for example, that if I deploy the process at 9,07AM the first transfer begin at 9,28AM, about twenty minutes after and so on for the other istances.
    The situation is that:
    The polling frequency is fixed to 60 seconds;
    The Minimum file age is fixed to 0 seconds;
    The files on server1 have a minimum age of about 2 minutes (and have an extension of type .txt);
The instances are initiated automatically because I have checked the “create instance” box in the invoke component configuration parameters.
Initially I think that the delay was due to the difference between my pc-time and the server1-time but modifying my pc-time I have obtained only a little improvement.
Could it be due to any activation or scheduling parameter in some BPEL file or it is probably a synchronization problem between my pc and server1?
I bag your pardon if the message is so long but I hope to have success in explaining the problem!
    Thanks,
    Busno.

  • IndexOutOfBoundsException with BPEL FTP adapter

I am running SOA Suite 10.1.3.4 on WebLogic Server 9.2, and have deployed a simple test BPEL process that is using the FTP adapter to poll for files on a remote SFTP server, retrieve the opaque payload, then copy it to a destination file on another SFTP server. For small files this works fine. For larger files (e.g., a 3.5MB file with ~25000 fixed-length records) I get the following in my OracleSOAServer.log file:

This happens immediately after the polling FTP adapter picks up the file. The IndexOutOfBoundsException is particularly troubling...is this error solely a function of memory (no OutOfMemory exception is being thrown), or is some other factor at work here? Any insights are appreciated.

    Hi Anirudh,
Thanks for the response. To clarify: my BPEL process starts with a Receive activity (with "createInstance" set to "yes"), which is receiving from an FTP Adapter PartnerLink. This PartnerLink is polling for a file on an SFTP server. When this file is present, and is relatively small, the whole BPEL process completes successfully. When it is of a larger size, I get the error described in my original post. The cause of the indexOutOfBoundsException is what I'm trying to determine. Here is the source for my BPEL process:

  • FTP adapter problems

    Hi all,
I'm having some problems with the FTP adapter.
About two months ago I did an ESB project which reads from an FTP and writes the files in a local directory.
I noticed that I had to change this parameter oracle.tip.adapter.file.numProcessorThreads=1 in the integration\esb\config\pc.properties.esb en integration\esb\config\ pc.properties file, for the FTP adapter to work all right. And it has been working for a long time.
The issue is, that now, I deploy this same ESB project to the same server and is not working. No files are being copied to my local directory. Furthermore, there are no instances in the ESB Control either.
I haven't changed anything so I don't understand why this is happening.
I set the log trace to FINEST and I found this trace for a lot of files in the log:
JCA: Poller enqueuing file for processing :/200704110041_r01g0020.gif
JCA: Ignoring File : 200704110041_r01g0020.gif as it is already enqued for processing.
So, there are no errors showing in the log but the adapter is not working.
Any tips about this? It is very important because we have to put this project in the production machine....
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Mark,
Thank you for your response, I have post the service request already. So far, I haven't got any answers and I have been trying to deploy this same project in different servers.
I get different results everytime without changing anything. In the test environment I just get the first error I post in this thread. In my local server I get a fatal error that I have already reported in this forum with the subject "FatalError FTP Adapter", and I write it here again.

Maybe an open door, but are you able to FTP to that server from the same BPEL server under the same user account as BPEL is running?

  • Receiver FTP Adapter Problem

Hello. My scenario is: A file is sent from R/3 via RFC, then from XI to an outside system using the FTP adapter. The RFC part is working, but I've encountered some errors with my FTP adapter. The file is not being created in my directory at all and this is the error message I'm getting:
    - 2006-10-11 08:28:20 CDT: Error: Message processing failed: Exception: ftp access error: com.sap.aii.adapter.file.ftp.FTPEx: 552 transfer failed
    Can anyone help, please?
    Thank you.
    Nicole

    Hi Nicole,
A few things you might check are:
    1) The Ip address given is correct.
    2) The login details given in File receiver adpater are right
    3) The server is running when you make the transfer, that is 'Allow logins' status is checked in case of guild FTP server or similar servers.
    4) The destination directory is given as "/root" with "/" slash.
    5) All the firewalls are turned off.
    6) File processing mode is 'Create'.

  • BPEL FTP Adapter Issue

I am trying to run the tutorials/129.FTPAdapter example.
    1) placed my FTP configuration in Oracle_Home\integration\orabpel\system\appserver\oc4j\j2ee\home\a
    pplication-deployments\default\FtpAdapter\oc4j-ra.xml file.
    2) created the input, output folder is my ftp
    3) deployed the FTPDebatching process.
The process started polling the FTP- input directory immediately after deployment.
But when I place the container.txt file in the input folder then its not reading the contents of that file and no exception message is thrown
But when I manually initiate the process by giving some input then its writing the input in to a file in FTP- output directory.
But it should pick up the file from input directory when it is place over there.
    polling frequency is 1 minute.
Am I missing some configuration ????????

Did you define in your first activity to create an instance? If you stated in your first activity in your bpel process he needs to create an instance, he will instantiate your process when a file is picked up by the polling mechanism.

  • File size restriction on FTP Adapter (GET)

A customer has deployed a BPEL process that we had created that uses the FTP Adapter to download (GET) files. The customer is reporting that when they try to download a large file (about 800 MB in size), the process does not seem to kick in for more than one hour. At this point I don't know how good or bad the network speed is and how long a FTP download will take for a file of that size. But before looking into that, wanted to know if there is any restriction on how big a file can be for it to be downloaded by the BPEL FTP Adapter. If not, is there some way to find out what is wrong with the downloading or to know to progress of the FTP GET?
The user guide talks about increasing the value of transaction-config timeout in server.xml for the File Adapter. Is this applicable for FTP Adapter also and will it work if I increase this?
Thanks in advance for your attention.
    Jay

Thanks for the pointer. The processes are deployed on a 10.1.3.5 instance.
Of the info I found in that article, only the following seemed applicable:
53.2.1 Setting Audit Levels from Oracle Enterprise Manager for Large Payload Processing
I can ask the customer to turn off auditing if it is on. But I am skeptical that this will resolve this issue.
The following seem to be applicable only to 11g version and I am not sure if they have any corresponding options in 10.1.3.5 (please let me know if I am mistaken):
    1. 53.2.4 Using Adapter Support for Streaming Large Payloads
    2. 53.2.6 Processing Large Documents in Oracle B2B
Section 53.3.1 Opaque Schema for Processing Large Payloads says the following:
There is a limitation when you use an opaque schema for processing large payloads. The entire data for the opaque translator is converted to a single Base64-encoded string. An opaque schema is generally used for smaller data. For large data, use the attachments feature instead of the opaque translator.
Based on your experience, has the FTP Adapter ever been used to download files of 800MB or larger size on a 10.1.3.5 instance? I would like to know if there is any insurmountable system limitation with this approach or is it just a question of proper configuration or is this a bug that the FTP adapter product team can look at. I assume the attachment feature is not available in 10.1.3.5.
The remaining sections don't seem applicable to the the customer scenario.
Can you please explain what ODI is?
    Appreciating your input,
    Jay

  • FTP Adapter Unable to change directory 'inputDir'

Hi all. I'm trying to put the file into BPEL Process, transform and put it to the output directory like in tutorial 129.FTPAdapter FTPDebatching. But I've got this message:

What am i must to do?

    Hi Varun,
Review of the ftp protocol specification
    http://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc959/
    http://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc959/5_Declarative.html
    shows that LIST command
    LIST
    125, 150
    226, 250
    425, 426, 451
    450
    500, 501, 502, 421, 530
does not have 550 code among the codes which are supposed to be returned by ftp server in response
to ls command. So, it looks like the ftp server running on AIX platofrm violates the ftp protocol specification.
As a result bpel ftp adapter returns an error and the process goes off-line.
    Solution:
    Apply patch 4508850.
If for any reason the official patch does not work, then apply the patch manually using the following steps:
    1. Stop OC4J_BPEL
    2. Create the following directories:
    $O_H\integration\orabpel\system\classes\oracle\tip\adapter\file\inbound
    $O_H\integration\orabpel\system\classes\oracle\tip\adapter\ftp\inbound
    3. Copy the following files
    FileSource.class, PollWork.class, FTPSource.class
    from the patch to
    $O_H\integration\orabpel\system\classes\oracle\tip\adapter\file\inbound\FileSource.class
    $O_H\integration\orabpel\system\classes\oracle\tip\adapter\file\inbound\PollWork.class
    $O_H\integration\orabpel\system\classes\oracle\tip\adapter\ftp\inbound\FTPSource.class
    4. Restart OC4J_BPEL
