BPF Questions

Hello All,
I have a BPF Instance with 2011.TOTAL, PLN with driver dimension to be Cost center. I have 3 steps in my BPF. I have different values for my drive dimension in creating the BPF Instance. If a Planner is done with all 3 steps, it does not let them reopen it again. How can I do it just for a specific user? Only way I know to reopen is to deactivate and reactivate the template which will open up all the steps for all users. How can I accomplish this?
Also, After each step, I have re-open Step. Is there a way I could reword to re-open prev step?

Hi,
Once all the steps have been completed, this means that the BPF is completed. Once the BPF is completed, you cannot re-open the steps. Actually, the rule is that the last step of the BPF cannot be re-opened. So, once the BPF is completed, the last step cannot be re-opened and thus the BPF cannot be re-opened. The only way is to recreate the instance.

A prospect is asking the following about BPF (they will probably install 7.5 MS):
By default BPC does not provide complex timing and other management-related functionality such as task routing and escalation for BPFs.
What might be the scenarios in order to achieve the required level of functionality? Are there any examples how one could meet the requirements such as this:
Timing. It should be possible to define start dates and deadlines for individual tasks and the BPF as a whole.
Reminders. It should be possible to configure reminders so that participants get notified when the tasks assigned to them become available or will be due shortly.
It should be possible to notify "emergency user" or supervisor if particular user fails to cope with the task.
Would it be viable to integrate third-party process management products?
Any ideas?

Hi Cecilia,
You can enable the mail sending feature. With this, whenver a step is completed, a mail will be sent to the user so that the user can prepare for his/her step. You can specify the timelines, etc in the body of the mail.

Hi Kumar,
The use of BPC is to develop and maintain planning and consolidation platform for an organization to evaluate company performance. When compared with other products, It is a very good product to do planning and consolidation.It is very flexible, user friendly.
It is not just doing reporting and currency translation. You need to develop a platform. Excel is just an interface that BPC uses and currency translation is part of a task. Excel is more userfriendly tool, that way BPC uses all different functions for evaluation purposes. BPC is got ocean of tools and tsks that you can perform for the evaluations.
Using Windows MS Excel reporting and currency translation, that will not produce any data base platform neither any flexibility in evaluations.It is just produces a view of some data at some point of time and it is not a data warehouse as well.

BPF configuration: parallel and dependent steps

Hi all,
I have a BPF of let say 5 steps regarding 5 input form.
step 1 is the main step and inputted by budget team.It is the rates input form.
step 2 is the sales volume step and depend on step 1 (like other steps) inputted by sales team.
step 3 is the sales discount step and depend on step 1 -2 inputted by budget team.
step 4 is the cost step depend on step 1-2 and can be performed regardless of step 3 and inputted by finance team.
step 5 is the distribution of costs to sales cube to see the profitableness and depend on step 1-2-4 .
As you see there are both parallel and related steps.Of course there are many other steps but they are similar so I summarized them as 5 steps.
Note that sales cube consists of sales group and cost cube consists of cost center( candidates for drive dimension)
Let me depict the scheme for that:
I could not achieve this by creating steps of openning criteria as "matched " or creating more than 1 template and instance. I want to know whether it is possible or there is a workaround.

If you will make these activities in same model, it is possible.

2- matched
4- matched
5 - all

Change Workstatus with BPF step completion using BADI

Hi Experts,
I have a requirement of changing Workstatus as soon as the user clicks on “Submit/Approve/Reject” button from the BPF.
We are trying to implement the same by referring to the thread Automating Work status Change in BPF
Now the thing is, we have written the BADI referring above thread which needs to be pass with some parameters(Owner & Context Members).
Our concern is how to pass active context members to BADI, and how to trigger the same from the Submit/Approve/Reject button in BPF?
Is it a manual invocation through script/DM, or is there any other way?
Since I am new to BPC BADI’s and requirement is urgent, please help………

Followed following steps:
1. Logged in to BPC client using user X.
2. Went to the page where BPF step needs to be submitted.
3. Logged in to SAP GUI and set a breakpoint in class CL_BPC_REST_RES at line 56 using same user X.
I have created Enhancement Implementation for BADI UJ_BPC_BPF_SUBMIT.
Filters provided are:
APPL_ID = ABC
APPSET_ID = XYZ
DRV_DIM_MEM = 0166
STEP_ORDER = 1.
In "IF_UJ_BPF_SUBMIT_LOGIC_HANDLER~EXECUTE_SUBMIT_LOGIC" method i have written break-point.
When i clicked on SUBMIT, error appears as

Please help. I am not able to debug and move ahead.

Im not trying to post icons (as the example in the document), therefore this error is shown after following the instructions... (i think this is ok since the icons are not used neither as the ASPX file). What i want is the BPF to be shown on Web not by "opening a BPF" because i want to display the BPF with an Xcelsius dashboard...

Your parity error seems to point to a memory problem. If you have a 2 chip setup, check the machine with 1 chip at a time. If either is fine, but 2 are unhappy, I'd replace both.
As for MS vs Lenovo drivers; I would be very careful of MS drivers. When Lenovo hangs a driver up for download, there is a reasonable assumption the driver has been certified against Lenovo's equipment. The same cannot be said for MS drivers, which are a generic fit for multiple systems. I'd stay close to home rather than experiment.

BPC Expertice Needed: some functional questions for Proto

Hi all,
I am working on a prototype and we would need to have some questions answered. Any hint is most welcomed.
BPF
- Are BPFs assigned to a user or can a user run different BPFs (i.e., one same user running one for budgeting and another one for sales data).
- There is a feature that allows to set the system to send an e-mail some days before running the BPF. We have reports of this feature not working properly. Has anybody managed to keep it up running?
- Can we set a BPF not to run until another BPF is done?
Security
- Can we set the security in such a way that we allow one user to input only cost data for one entity and at the same time only sales data for another entity? (what would be the best scenario for achieving this? having cost and sales data that in one same application or having them in two different applications?)
Reporting (mainly EvDRE, but could be otherwise if it is any better)
- How can we set a report so that the expansions are based on a value of a crossing (instead of a value in a property)? (i.e., having a dimension "asset" and having a report dynamically showing only those assets of purchase year superior to the Current View year? Using evdre's expansion properties? suppressions?)
- How can we have linked dimensions? That is, having set one member of a dimension we would like to have the members allowed for another dimension filtered (i.e., if one dimension is "shops" and another one is "products", having set shop A we would like to be able to offer a list with only the products available in shop A....similar case to the previous question, but this time for slicer dimensions instead of axis dimensions )

Can we set a BPF not to run until another BPF is done? We have thought about using a special workstatus needed that would be set up only in the second BPF, but maybe there is a better approach.
REPORTING (mainly EvDRE, but could be otherwise if it is any better)
How can we get linked dimensions ? We would need to have in reports something like what there is available for journals through the Journal Validation Rules where having selected a member of one dimension (driver dimension) makes available to the user only a certain set of members of another dimension (driven dimension). Anyone implemented it? Maybe using VB code?

Pre-packaged BPF's?

Hello all,
I have recently completed a Microsoft BPC 7.0 installation, I keep finding information from SAP on pre-packaged Business Process Flows but the only BPF available on a clean install for me seems to be the 'Bugeting Process'. Am I missing something or should there be pre-created Business flows or do you have to create each BPF from scratch?

BPF an Work Status in BPC v10

Hi averybody,
I am working in a project of BPC v10 and i have a question i would like to solve. Specifically i want to know if the new version of SAP BPC allow you to associate a step of the BPF with a change of the work status strictly.
Does anybody know something concerning this item? Any additional information about new functionalities of BPF and work status?

You can certainly do that. When you've created a set of work statuses and want to associate the work states to a BPF, you can associate with a setting for Related Action along with the Input you are providing to the suers (scrnsht below). I am not sure you can make it mandatory for the user to change work status setting, but you can allow a change in the work status.

BPC 7.5 NW - BPF - Secuencial Steps ?

Hi team, there is no way to customize the BPF to ensure that activities are not sequential, with reviewers but not mandatory depending on the finalization them before, we have many branch offices for sales and many cost centers for expenses.
Any idea where configure, some customizing, table ?

The only back end BW tables to customize regarding BPF are those having to do with e-mail notifications. There are no BW customizing tables related to BPF sequence logic.
Whether steps have to be performed in a sequential manner is determined in the BPF template setup. Specifically when each step is added to the BPF you have to define the "Opening Criteria" which has two choices: 1) All step regions and 2) Matched step regions. All step regions means all must have a status of complete before the next step can be opened. Matched step regions means that the next step is opened for the same step region while allowing other regions to remain pending.
For your situation with many different branch offices and cost centers you might want to use Matched Step Regions to allow each to proceed "non sequentially", if I understand your question correctly.
Also don't forget that a BPF does not preclude a user/reviewer doing any task directly in Excel for which they have task security, regardless of the sequence of steps defined in a BPF.

BPF step with no action?

Howdy experts,
SBOP PC NW 7.5 SP05
I was asked a question about BPF's this afternoon and I'm stumped. The user wants to have a step within a BPF that requires no BPC action. The action that the user is responsible for is actually in another system, but they want to show the step in a BPF.
If I create a BPF step and skip the action portion, I get an error when I create an instance (see below)

Note that the name of the step that I created for testing is "generic step".
Any ideas how to accomodate the business need for an actionless BPF step?

This is a problem. Validation will definitely throw an error if a step doesnt have any actions or doesnt have any substeps. So, I dont think this will be feasible. May be you can consider custom menu as an alternate.

Trouble with bpf packet injection

I am using OSX 10.4.9 power-pc Darwin Kernel Version 8.9.0
I am using libpcap 0.9.5, which uses the BPF api to capture and inject packets. Essentially, I need raw access to the Ethernet network. The problem I am encountering is that when I inject a packet using a bpf-write() command, subsequent bpf-read() commands see the injected packet. I tried avoiding this using the BIOCSSEESENT which disabled capture of all locally generated packets. But it only worked for the OS-stack generated packets, and not the packets I was generating via the bpf write() function.
Looking at the FreeBSD kernel, they solve the problem using a BIOCFEEDBACK setting, which disables the capture operating bpf-read()ing the packets you put in via bpf-write().
My questions are:
1. Is there some BIOCFEEDBACK equivalent on the MacOS that I am unaware of?
2. If not, is there some way I can edit the BPF source code on this version of the kernel, and run my own BPF?
3. If not, what is the proper way to request Apple to fix this shortcomming?

I don't know much about this, but the Darwin kernel is very similar to FreeBSD. Indeed, in Activity Monitor, if you do a "Info" about processses, you can see the number of Unix and BSD system calls they make.
Try using the BIOCFEEDBACK setting on OS X. It may not work, but it's worth a try.

Does anyone took the BPC certification C_EPMBPC_70 . The training path is BPC310,BPC320,BPC330,BPC440. Which course is the best like it covers all the topics. Is it BPC310 or BPC330. Let me give you some ideas on each of the courses.
BPC 310: Application configuration in BPC MS. It includes, Application management, dimension management, security, BPF, etc
BPC 320: Reporting and input schedules in BPC MS
BPC 330: This is kind of combination of BPC 310 and 320 but with the flavor of BPC NW
BPC 340: This course focuses on consolidation process in NW.
Each of the courses are independant and are equally important for the certification. The certification will involve questions from each of these books. The questions have a mix of functional and technical.
