BPM 11g R1 now released

http://blogs.oracle.com/bpm/2010/04/bpm_suite_11gr1_released.html

BPM 11g has split into two main components for the Business Analyst and the Developer/IT. There is a Process Administrator UI that makes it easy for BA's to model, change and implement business processes.
As far as the developer is concerned, there is much more capability in the way it is coupled with Oracle SOA suite. It's only complex because developers must deal with complexity. With BPM 11g you get a SOA suite rules engine and ADF. If you haven't developed using ADF before, hold judgment until you get a chance to learn how it works. Also give JDeveloper a chance. For eclipse users, it shouldn't be to difficult to find everything you need.
I think the ideal candidate to go to BPM 11g R1 will be someone already entrenched in Oracle Fusion Middleware. It will take some time for ALBPM and old Fuego users time to transition over. I also think people may get frustrated with some quirkiness in R1. You may want to wait for R3. But I think you'll be happy with the capability and power contained in BPM 11g. It's be a bumpy start, but hold on. Things will get better.

  • BPM 11g Process Administrator functions: Where are they now??

    Good morning,
I've got some decent ALBPM6.0.5 experience, and now I've just started in a new project that uses BPM 11g. I've attended to an Oracle "Hands On" so I know 11g is VERY different from 10g/ALBPM.
My main problem is that I cannot find anywhere where are Roles and Users managed in the server. From where do I administer Roles, Users, Groups, Organizational Units. All that used to be in the Process Administrator. How is that done now? I swear I've gone through all the documentation at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/soa.htm and still found nothing :(
Also, is now using an LDAP mandatory? Or can something like ALBPM Directory still be used??
    Thanks in advance.

User/Role management is now done through the workspace itself. You must login as an administrative user (like weblogic) and you will see an Admin link in the upper right of the workspace.
Authentication and user lookup is now handled directly by Weblogic - so you setup authentication Providers in the WLS security realm through the admin console.
By default Weblogic is configured to use an internal LDAP that stores local users (this is where the "weblogic" user itself is defined).
    General steps are provided here:

  • Oracle bpm 11g Release

    Hi,
Are there any news about oracle BPM 11g release? When it will be released (I heard early 2010). We are starting a new project and nnewd to decide weather to use version 10g or new features of version 11g.
    Thanks,
    Matej

    Thanks for the links.
I was not aware of them. I've reviewed them,. They are pretty high level. We are looking for the documentation about integration with other applciations.
    See for example:
How to listen to instance events in ALBPM
    Thanks,

  • BPM 11g Workspace Audit Trail not showing Sub process inner activities

    Hi all,
I have been developing some BPM Process in JDev 11.1.1.5 and have deployed them in BPM Suite 11.1.1.5 over Windows Server 2003. I've found the following and would like to hear your opinion:
1- The Process audit trail in BPM 11g Workspace shows the activities of the process but the Sub-Process call activity appears as just a single activity and you can not see the inner activities of the sub-process... making impossible to track the sub-process.
2- In the EM Instance trail you can track the subprocess activities, but they appear wrong; diffrent names, diferente types (ex: interactive activity shown as service call)..etc..
Are these known issues? is this the expected behaviour? Is it just some configuration I missed?
    Thanks for your time.

For anyone with the same question, I got this from Oracle support about both questions:
1- I checked with our Engineering team and regarding the expanding of the subprocess activity , it is planned to be released in 12g. So right now , it is a work in progress feature being addressed by our developers.
2- Thanks a lot. I have reported a bug 12909848 to our Engineering team. You can track the status of the bug from the SR.

  • Versioning of processes in Oracel BPM 11g

    Hi,
I have a question about versioning of processes in oracle BPM 11g.
Former Oracle BPM product (Aqualogic BPM) automatically managed the versioning of processes deployed to the server. When a new version of a process was created, the server automatically determined if it is a minor or major revision and a new process version number was recommended.
Is there a similar functionality in new BPM engine?
Now, when I deploy a new version of process I can only choose between rewriting existinig revision (all active instances will stale and become unusable) or deploying new revision (all active instances will continue using previous version).
Is there a way to migrate existing instances to new process (if there were only minor changes)?
    Hope someone can answer. Thnx.

This feature (migration of running instances to new version) is intended to be available in PS3 which is planned for early 2011.
I suggest you check out the release documentation for confirmation however.

  • BPM 11G : Business Catalog : Java JAR Files

    Folks,
We have invested a lot of effort & time in developing Business Processes in ALBPM 6.5. One of the critical features in ALBPM 6.5 was the Business Catalog - if I had a set of Java Utility Classes bundled in a JAR Archive, I could " catalog " it & reference & reuse the classes via the PBL Code.
We are now evaluating our Migration Approach to Oracle SOA 11G & we have a few questions :-
    1. Does Oracle BPM 11G also have the facility of directly " cataloging " Java JAR Archives ?
    2. If no, what is the best approach, in your viewpoint, to migrate business logic that is present in many such JAR archives.
We are looking at abstracting the business logic in Web Services - however, the ideal path we are looking at is to retain our investment in the Business Catalog JAR Files.
Please do let me know your thoughts & opinions.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sandeep Seshan

There are 2 options you have:
    1. If you access the java code from within a BPEL process instead you can use the java embedding activity to call these classes directly.
    2. You expose your java classes through a spring context and use the spring component to expose the required classes as services within your composite which you can wire directly to your BPMN process.
    Thanks,
    Adam DesJardin

  • Invoking bpel process from java in oracle soa/bpm 11g

    Hi,
We have some java code to invoke bpel process in oracle BPM 10g following the instructions in http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/integrate.1012/b14448/invoke.htm.
    Basically the steps are:
    1) get a Locator (com.oracle.bpel.client.Locator)
    2) get IDeliveryService (com.oracle.bpel.client.delivery.IDeliveryService) reference from locator
    3) call IDeliveryService method request or post with input message and get the response back.
Recently we want to migrated from oracle bpm 10g to oracle soa/bpm 11g. But I can not find the similar API in 11g. It seems now some adapter/binding need to be added in exposed service lane in soa composite view, for example, ADF-BC, direct binding etc, in order to allow java to invoke a bpel process. Here are two very useful links from Edwin about the detail how this is implemented.
    http://biemond.blogspot.com/2009/11/invoking-soa-suite-11g-service-from.html
    http://biemond.blogspot.com/2009/11/calling-soa-suite-direct-binding.html?showComment=1285198033913#comment-c1055322845511794252
    My question is:
    1) what are the choices and the official/best way to invoke a bpel process in oracle soa/bpm 11g from java?
    2) does user need to add an adapter/binding in exposed service lane in order to let the bpel service be called in java?
    3) what is the real difference between a bpm application and soa application in 11g?
I will really appreciate any expert's opinion.
    Thanks,
    Bin

Thanks for your reply and confirmation, really appreciate it.
Yes, I found the difference of the invoking process API and was able to invoke bpel process using direct and ADF-BC binding by following Edwin's blog. But I have not found any official reference to compare this API difference between 10g and 11g ( I will mark this question as answered if anyone can find an official source from oracle, need to prove it to the team). The API to work with human task workflow seems pretty much the same between 10g and 11g.

  • BPM 11g changes to process aren't getting deployed

I'm having trouble seeing changes I make to the process model in BPM 11g. For instance, if I add a new activity or change data associations/mapping in the activity and re-deploy, it doesn't take effect.
I've tried doing a clean all, make all, and undeploy all project artifacts (undeploy project composite from soa-server and undeploy UI ear file) before deploying. I don't see the changes unless I restart the soa-server.
Any suggestions? Is this a bug?
    Thanks
    Mark

There's definitely some issues with deploying changes. We've found that if there are BPEL processes in you BPM process and you make changes, you'll need to bounce the SOA server too, to see the changes. Also, some people are experiencing instability issues when you keep increasing the version number. You get to about 4 or 5 versions, and it stops locks up the SOA server. I've found un-deploying and then do a fresh deploy seems to be the best way to make changes for now. I believe engineering is aware of this problem and is working on fixing it.

  • BPM 11g Process Hierarchy?

    Hi,
In the BPA Suite I can define a process hierachy by assigning a BPMN process diagram to a function like a subprocess.
(How) can I do this in the BPM Suite 11g?

I believe you have to use the Send/Receive tasks now in order to call a reusable subprocess in BPM 11g. This requires the sub process to be message based where as the Call activity allowed non message based processes.

  • BPM 11g - Human task not removed when interrupting boundary event fired

In BPM 11g (11.1.1.1.3), I am testing a message catch event on the boundary of a human task. It is set for interrupting, so it should, when the event fires, remove the human task from the work list and follow the flow out of the event. The event flow is being followed, but the human task is being left active in the user's work list. I would expect the human task to be removed when the interrupting boundary message event occurs.
I think this is a bug, but would welcome any suggestions on how to solve it. Does anyone know if this works in the latest release (11.1.1.1.4)? We might upgrade pretty soon. Has anyone else tried boundary message events and gotten them to work properly in BPM 11g?
Just FYI....in order to make the BPM message event occur and provide instance correlation, we had to add a mediator and BPEL correlation. We followed process documented in a previous post to do this (http://blog.andrade.inf.br/2011/01/implementing-correlation-in-bpm-11gr1.html). Thanks to whomever posted that...it got us a few steps further along!

I do not think this is bug based on
Oracle® Fusion Middleware Modeling and Implementation Guide for Oracle Business Process Management
23.1.1 Understanding the Relationship Between SOA Composites and SOA Components
"In a similar way, when an interrupting timer or message boundary event arrives to a user task, the BPMN process instance leaves the user task but the associated Human Task remains available. Because the interrupting timer or message boundary event arrived before the user completes the user task, the human task remains unfinished, and you can still access it thought the Worklist application. However running that human task does not have any effect on the BPMN process."
This also gives us big trouble. I am looking for the solution.

  • How to pass simple parameter to XSLT from BPM 11g Data Association

Is it possible to pass a simple parameter to an XSLT from a BPM 11g Data Association (11.1.1.6.0)?  Here is why I asked.  I have a transform that I want to reuse across two service activities in the same process.  The only difference is one integer ID value between the two activities.  (Happens to be running an IPM saved search, each with a different ID.)
I tried mapping the ID value in the Data Association dialog, in addition to the XSLT mapping, but didn't work.  Or is there another method I could use to reuse this transform (besides just copying it as I've done for now)?  Thanks.

If I understood your scenario, the point is: you always have to pass the same dataObjects as parameters to the XSL, but you can change the values of them in an association step before the transformation.
Lets see if the following can fit your needs:
    1) your project has three BusinessObjects: "SearchParam", "CommonData" and "Result"; and five process dataObjects:
    - "search1", "search2" and "search" of type "SearchParam";
    - "commonData" of type "CommonData";
    - "result" of type "Result"
    2) your XSL has "result" as target and two sources: "search" and "commonData"
    3) In some part of the process flow you have a scriptTask with:
    - a data association from "search1" to "search";
    - a transformation with "search" and "commonData" as parameters
    4) In other part of the process flow you can use the same transformation, but using the data from "search2" as parameter, adding a scriptTask with:
    - a data association from "search2" to "search";
    - the same transformation with "search" and "commonData" as parameters
In this scenario you are reusing the same XSL file only changing the values for one parameter.

  • "Call Activity" task not available in Jdeveloper BPM 11G Beta2 ?

    Hi,
The "Call Activity" task is no longer available in Jdeveloper component palette (as of 11.1.1.3.PS2_GENERIC_100302.2020.5629)
But this task is still available in BPM Composer (BPM 11G Beta 2 same delivery as Jdeveloper).
We are currently in the modelizaion phase of a Business Process and for the flexibility , lisibilty it's really important for us to use this feature.
Could you provide us a patch or a new version of Jdeveloper where this issue is fixed ?
    Thanks.

The Call Activity was removed because this feature is not ready to be released as part of R1. It will return soon! It should also be removed from Process Composer.
In the meantime, the functionality is nearly the same if you use a separate process and call it using the Service activity.
    Heidi.

  • BPM 11g

    Dear All,
I am working on BPM 11g.
I installed the following products for BPM 11g
OS: Windows 7 SP1 Professional Edition all with 32 bit
    Installed s/w:
        JDeveloper 11.1.1.6.0 Generic Version
        OracleXE 11.2 Win32
        ofm soa generic 11.1.1.6.0
        wls 10.3.5
        RCU 11.1.1.6 for schemas dev_soainfra, dev_sdpm and dev_mds  - Utility run successfully.
Overall Installation is successful wth no issues.
Configuration of Weblogic server for domain is ok with admin server, soa_server1 and bam_server1 with test connections is ok.
I am using browser as Internet Explorer 9
After starting weblogic server and soa_server1
the URL for BPM composer and BPM Workspace
    works with
    Oracle BPM Workspace .......... http://localhost:8001/bpm/workspace
    Oracle Process Composer ....... http://localhost:8001/bpm/composer
and not works with (recommended from Oracle Training perspective)
    Oracle BPM Workspace .......... http://localhost:7001/bpm/workspace
    Oracle Process Composer ....... http://localhost:7001/bpm/composer
why the 7001 port does not work for BPM composer ?
In Jdeveloper 11.1.1.6.0 after creating application, project and process
From BPM MDS Navigator I configured the connection for Database 11g XE as well using
    Override Application Server user/password
For SOA MDS I included the dev_mds user with MDS partition as obpm
tested connections all ok (weblogic and soa_server1 up and running)
In the BPM Project Navigator when I use the Project --> SalesQuote.jpr --> right clicking with
option as  Save to BPM MDS the following error is occured as
"Error while saving BPM Project to MDS: BPM-70801 : Metadata operation failed".
If the error is resolved than I can see the project in BPM composer.
My queries on this error are
    1) Has soa_server anything to do with this error
    2) Is dev_mds schema to be reviewed
what can be the possibility to resolve the BPM-70801 error.
Please provide the solution ASAP or send me the reply to my  [email protected]
    Regards
    Ajaz Ahmed

    Hi Ravi,
Many Thanks for my query responses.
I am putting my thoughts and clarifications as per your solutions.
    1. AdminServer running at 7001, soa_server1 at 8001 and bam_server1 at 9001 is clear and ok.
    2. Port 7001 will NOT work since none of the soa modules are deployed to this server port. - ok
    3. Very simple. From domain/config folder open config.xml file and search for workspace or composer and see that   XML  section. The value for <target> tag will tell you exactly where that module is deployed and only on that you can use it.
My thoughts : What I understand for config.xml in domain/config folder has information on the domains configured
with SOA_Server1, BAM_server1 and Weblogic server with port numbers and file path.  (while configuring domain I selected the check box for SOA_suite, BPM_suite 11.1.1.0 Instead of SOA_suite and BPM_suite for developers checkbox).
Please confirm if this selection is correct for BPM composer. What does module deployed means.
    4. Coming to your Training session, it is possible that they had just ONE SINGLE server that acts as Admin and SOA Server. Yes, this is possible. When you create a BPM Domain using config wizard, there is an option like Developers domain like that and thats when you will have just one server at port 7001 that has all soa modules also deployed. That is why in your training they may have used port 7001 for workspace or composer.
My Thoughts : I have everything configured on my laptop which acts as server and client. Do you mean I have to configure the wizard again and Include SOA_suite for Developers and BPM_suite for developers. 7001 weblogic server is clear to me.
Now, coming to setting up composer, it should work. Try not to choose the option to override server name and password. We do not need this. Just select the existing details. You should be able to export to MDS Repository. If you still get errors, please let me know.
I am able to export the BPM project succesfully to save my Salesquote to the required location with extension as
.exp. This is OK.  I do not have any problems while exporting BPM Project. I am having problems with
    Save to BPM  MDS
    My current issue is
In the BPM Project Navigator when I use the Project --> SalesQuote.jpr --> right clicking with
option as  Save to BPM MDS the following error is occured as
"Error while saving BPM Project to MDS: BPM-70801 : Metadata operation failed".
If the error is resolved than I can see the project in BPM composer.
I am still facing this error BPM-70801. Please help me to resolve this error
    Thanks

  • BPM 11g: Export to XPDL

Is there any way to export a BPMN process in BPM 11g to XPDL?
    Thanks,
    Rui

we are facing exactly same issue. We are trying to export from 11gR1 database using 9i client and import it into 9i database. 11g is having character set AL32UTF8 and target 9i is having WE8ISO8859P1.
While exporting NLS_LANG variable was set to AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1 and while importing the same was done. Even then I am facing following error while importing,

Any idea what might be the issue.
