  • NetWeaver BPM and NetWeaver Business Workflow?

What is the difference between NetWeaver BPM and NetWeaver Business Workflow?

    Hi
    BPM
The new tools from SAP are aimed to provide the business process flexibility needed to enable customers to turn strategic business insight into real-world execution," stated SAP's announcement. "The addition of the planned capabilities will enable business process experts to design, model and immediately execute new or adapted business processes without having to develop code."
    Business Workflow
SAP Business Workflow can be used to define business processes that are not yet mapped in the R/3 System. These may be simple release or approval procedures, or more complex business processes such as creating a material master and the associated coordination of the departments involved. SAP Business Workflow is particularly suitable for situations in which work processes have to be run through repeatedly, or situations in which the business process requires the involvement of a large number of agents in a specific sequence.
You can also use SAP Business Workflow to respond to errors and exceptions in other, existing business processes. You can start a workflow when predefined events occur, for example an event can be triggered if particular errors are found during an automatic check

  • BPM, Workflow and Netweaver - Need Clarification

    Hi Guru,
I am new to workflow, BPM and Netweaver.  I have several questions about those concepts.
    1. What is/are the different between workflow and webflow.  Which scenario should take workflow into consideration? Which scenario webflow can be applied to?
    2. What is/are the different between workflow and BPM.  If I am going to implement workflow in a company, do I need to implement business workflow as well as BPM?
    3. I need clarification on Netweaver platform and concept.
    4. What is/are the different between workflow in R/3 and workflow under Netweaver?
    5. If I am going to implement workflow integrated with R/3 and Outlook email, do I need to buy new wrokflow for Netweaver and Netweaver platform or alternatively, I can use business workflow module under R/3 system?
Sorry for many questions asked. I am new to those products.  I am now working on software selection for workflow technology.  My company is going to implement new workflow to client.  Thank you very much.
    Cheers,

Please ask only one (or closely related) questions per thread. This makes it a lot easier to get a good structure in the database of previously answered questions. While we are on the subject of previously answered questions, I think you should have a look at them....
    My suggestion is therefore:
    1. Close this thread
    2. Read the Frequently Answered Questions. Before you ask (here are many workflow answers)
    3. Search the forum.
    4. Create new threads if you have questions afterwards.

  • Difference between ccBPM and Netweaver CE BPM?

    Hi All,
Can someone please detail on the difference between ccBPM and netweaver CE BPM.
Also, on what basis one decide's which one to use and when?
    Regards,
    XIer

    Hi,
BPM in PI is ccBPM i.e cross component BPM which is system centric... between cross systems ..if need will go for this..
where as BPM in netweaver CE is User centric.if needed will be exposed to user ..and will be based on the user decision steps..
and i dont think it can used between cross systems...

  • BPM - Formerly galaxy

Is BPM part of CE7.1 only? Is EHP CE7.1 required?
Is it also available as part of EHP for 7.0?
    Please let me know.
    thanks

The BPM environment comes shipped as of CE 7.1 EHP1 SP1. The official release
of the BPM environment will be called 'Galaxy'. So there is no possibility to integrate
    BPM into NetWeaver 7.0.

  • Software requirements for SAP BPM

    Hello,
After reading the foruns, SDN and Service Marketplace I'm a bit confused with the number of different releases SAP has for SAP Netweaver.
We have SAP Netweaver 7.0 with EHP1, and SAP Netweaver Composition Environment 7.0 with EHP 1 I believe. So If I already have a running Portal with "SAP Netweaver 7.0 with EHP1" do I need to install another server with runs "SAP Netweaver Composition Environment 7.0 with EHP 1" to be able to use SAP BPM?

  • Help Required IN Business Process Monitoring?

    Hi,
i have few clarifications reg BPM in solution Mangager
1.What is monitored in BPM,Business Process interfaces or the business Process data( at does t monitors at data level)?
2.if interfaces are monitored in Solman BPM,how different it is from Netweaver Business process management.?
3.if possible can anyone brief out what XI process monitoring is and how is it different from SOLMAN BPM?
    helpful answers rewareded
    rgds,
    rajesh

    Hello Rajesh,
please refer to https://service.sap.com/bpm --> Media Library --> Customer Information --> "Business Process & Interface Monitoring - Part 2" to get a comprehensiver overview about what is available out-of-the-box for BPMon in SolMan.
BPMon in SolMan and BPM in Netweaver adress different target groups and can be seen a complementary functionalities.
BPMon in SolMan is primarily targeting at the 2nd level application support and should ensure a stable and smooth processing of Business Processes from a technical as well as application perspective. The processes have a granularity down on transaction or background job level.
Technical monitoring could be average response time of a transaction or a job cancellation.
Application monitoirng is providing about the throughput numbers of documents like sales orders, deliveries or backlog figures indicating that there are erronuous documents or documents that need manual intervention. Looking at this last aspect it is clear that a second target group is key players on business unit side, like sales reposnibles, plant owners etc.
On interface side you can monitor IDocs, qRFCs, Batch Input session for certain statuses, check if files arrived or do some XI messaged based alerting.
BPM in Netweaver is a technical layer deeper and based especially on XI/PI. So this is an integration engine itself. When you look at the capabilities of XI/PI where you can split or correlate messages with ccBPM this is related to so called integration processes which could be a more detailed sub-process from what is looked at BPMon in SolMan. Other aspects that BPM in Netweaver is supports is Business Activity Monitoring BAM which cannot easily explained with  a few sentences. But here the target groups with BAM are either real business end-users or C-level management for business efficiency analysis.
Hope this answer could clarify a few things.

  • Problem about parallel audit

    Hello expert,
            I am using BPM on Netweaver CE7.1 EHP1. I meet a problems:
There are 2 tasks: task1 and task2, and they are parallel task(The two tasks exist between parallel split and parallel join). If I run the task1 and return a parameter false, this means I needn't run the task2. But the task2 still exist in the owner of task2's UWL.I hope when someone complete task1 and return a parameter false, the task2 should remove from UWL.

Thank you for your replay .
I explain  my problem once more.
Only the two tasks which are should launch at the same time all approve ,the process can complete. If task1 or task2 can not approve, the Process should relaunch. So I put Task1 and Task2 in the structure of parallel. My requirement is If Task1 return unapproved, the process should relaunch and  the task2 should cancel in the UWL automatically. But problem is the Task2 did not be canceled.

  • Inter-Process Asynchronous Event

    Hi All,
A question came into my mind when thinking about how to model a procure-to-pay process with BPM for NetWeaver.
Imagine there's a process allowing a purchaser to purchase products from a vendor:
    [Purchase Order Processing|http://esoadocu.sap.com/socoview(bD1lbiZjPTAwMSZkPW1pbg==)/render.asp?packageid=DBBB6D8AA3B382F191E0000F20F64781&id=F4EF93509BE111DB2B24000F20DAC9EF]
In Galaxy I would model a couple of human-centric steps for the purchaser to collect the purchase data and then a insert a service invocation/automated step of the asynchronous outbound method PurchaseOrderRequest_Out in the purchaser's ERP backend system.
So far so good. But now I don't want this process to end already but wait for the vendor to confirm by calling the asynchronous inbound service PurchaseOrderConfirmation_In, then afterwards having follow-up human steps for the purchaser.
    Question:
Is it possible to have one process model to support this scenario?
    Thanks and Kind Regards,
    Ingo Taraske

    Hi David
Thanks for this information ...But It would be great if you could explain in detail about your suggestion to realize this using 2 different processes(I have highlighted that part)
Unfortunately, this is not possible in EhP1. Wait step or asynchronous message receiving is what we call "event correlation". This is realized in EhP2 using "intermediate message event" according to BPMN 1.1.
"To realize this scenario with EhP1, you need to to model two different processes, the second one starting from the asynchronous wait step. Then, you can use PI/XI to trigger the start of the second process as soon as the PurchaseOrderConfirmation_In is called."   --- I couldn't quite catch this...
    Best regards,
    Arun

  • Call for Response: Your Top 5 Workflow Reports

    Dear Workflow Community,
I am writing here to gather input in regards to specifications we currently prepare. As part of our new BPM solution “NetWeaver Business Process Manager” we specify currently the requirements for reporting and process analysis.
Since I strongly believe we have some of the best workflow experts here in SDN, I would like to ask for response on the following questions:
<b>1. What are the top 5 reports you run over your existing workflow deployment?</b> Please list both SAP pre-delivered and custom developed reports. The more details you can provide the better we can understand your requirements.
<b>2. What are your top 5 pain points when designing and deploying these reports? </b>
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi Ralf & others,
I’m happy to hear that SAP is actively thinking about this issue, since it is an issue in the most implementations we do. I have read through the different posts and recognize a lot of problems and it’s funny to read how every one has their own way of tackling these problems.
Maybe it’s because I’m a consultant and don’t spend much time in maintenance but I don’t use standard transactions a lot, since they offer so little possibility to select on business data as Martin mentioned. Of course during development you use transactions like SWI1, SWPR, SWEL etc etc but after the go-live we advise the customer to use the custom made reports. (Of course if you built the workflow correct and the agent determination is done properly, you shouldn’t need standard workflow transactions…in an ideal world..;)
The way these reports are built up can roughly be in two ways:
1 – Old fashioned: First you make a selection on business data, like invoices (again..;) then you find the related workflows, and depending on the reporting demands you extract relevant information from the workitems and their containers. We mostly use function modules during this process like:
    -     SWI_WORKITEMS_OF_OBJECT_GET
    -     SWW_WI_CONTAINER_READ
    -     SAP_WAPI_GET_DEPENDENT_WIS
    -     RH_WI_ORGTASK_GET
Especially the FM SWW_WI_CONTAINER_READ is very slow and inefficient, also because after execution you have to loop through the output of this one and find the relevant element and value you are looking for. (Maybe it would be an idea to make it possible to add the possibility to select on ELEMENT and it’s VALUE. This would make it much more efficient.
2 – New style: Since a little while, during implementations where we expect high volumes, we make use of the WORK ITEM exits. This means that during the development of the workflow, you already start thinking about which information you want to use in reporting and that after the execution of vital steps (especially important status changes) in the workflow you transfer the relevant data to a custom-made table. When you built your report, you use this Z-table. This has proven to be a very powerfull tool which makes your reports a LOT faster!
Maybe it would be possible to add somekind of functionality to the workflow builder or the definition of the task to add a Tab for reporting. Here it would be possible to say for example which container elements you want to transfer to some kind of special reporting table….Im just thinking out loud now.
I hope this is a little usefull four you.
    Kind regards & good luck!
    Erik
PS Arghadip, I came across this topic since Im working for a customer now which has a running workflow for approving invoices, but they want more reporting possibilities. We are looking at the different possibilities, also BW/BI. So Arghadip I am very curious to some details on the BW reporting you used in your project, since I dont have any relevant experience in this. Could you share some of that experience with us, or shall we set up another thread on this? This would be greatly appreciated.

  • How to start BPM Process in Netweaver CE 7.1 from backend

    Hi,
since 2 Month i am trying to use SAP Netweaver CE 7.1 EHP1. I found a lot about modelling of business process with process composer.
In my company we are often using SAP Standard Programs/transaktions, thats why I want to start a SAP Netweaver BPM Process from SAP Backend. I think there are more than one way. May be someone can tel me one easy way.
The following systems are available in my Landascape:
    - PI 7.1
    - ERP 2005
    - CE 7.1 EHP1 with ESR
Does someone have an idea how to start the BPM Process or how to trigger start event from Backend?
    Greetings,
    Manuel

    Hi,
Netweaver BPM process can be started in two ways:
    1. Using NWA by instantiating a process
    2. Using a Web service which trigers the Start event of the Business Process. You may find this useful:
