Installation of oracle 10g on RedHat Linux EE 3
Hi,
I am going to Install of oracle 10g on RedHat Linux EE 3, rigth now i am running oracle 9i on windows platform. I need following things:
-I want to export all my data from oracle 9i on windows. For this what is the best way should i transport my tablespace and install oracle 10g on linux and import them after creating db or should i simply export and import it from there.
-Is there any issues that i should look at before i transfer my database.
-We are a Industrial Laboratory and use scientific notation in our database. Would this import export can takecare of all the things or should i set some character set setting before import/export.
-Any thing else if you thing that i should take care.
Thanks & Regard
Rashid K.KYou cannot use transportable tablespace. Platform independent transportable tablespace run only on newer versions (10g). You have to create the tablespaces on you linux machine and than exp/imp (full=y).

Can you install Oracle 10g on REDHAT LINUX ENTERPRISE WS?
According to oracle documentation, it says you can install oracle10g on Redhat enterprise version 3 or 4, but it doesn't specify whether its Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS or WS. Can you install oracle 10g on Rehat Linux Enterprise WS?
Oracle Certificaction Matrices says only RedHat AS/ES is supported for database. AFAIK WS means workstation.
Also this link is very clear: http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/FAQ_61_1135.shtm
Besides the above sentences... If the WS installation is providing all required packages (listed in installtion prerequisites) I belive that Oracle DB could be installed on WS but as I (and the above link) said it is not officialy supported. -
BPM standalone 10g configuration
A BPM standalone is installed in Windows 2003 sp1 on a VM. I also apply the patch to it. It cannot be configured with a DB installed in another machine (10g). However, it can be configured with other DB (11g/10g) installed in the same machine or different one. It cannot be configured with just one DB.
When I configure it with a DB installed in my machine (the VM is installed in my machine. DB is not installed in VM) multiple times (I create about 5 directory and do not drop the users--OBPMDir*/OPBMEngine*), the workspace shows error: cannot find *** process.
However, after I reboot the PC, it works fine.
The log file of installation:
#Install Complete
WHAT_TO_LAUNCH_0=0
WHAT_TO_LAUNCH_1=1
WHAT_TO_LAUNCH_2=0
It is different with another installation log of BPM standalone 10g which works fine.
#Install Complete
WHAT_TO_LAUNCH_0=1
WHAT_TO_LAUNCH_1=0
WHAT_TO_LAUNCH_2=0I reinstall BPM standalone 10g in that VM. It works fine.
The current log as follows:
#Install Complete
WHAT_TO_LAUNCH_0=1
WHAT_TO_LAUNCH_1=0
WHAT_TO_LAUNCH_2=0
What do these numbers mean? -
How can I enable trace log in Oracle Database 10g ( in RedHat Linux)
Dear Forums Members,
Could u plz drop a message about how can I enable $Oracle_Home/network/trace
in Oracle Database 10g (Operating system is RedHat Linux Advanced Server 3).
I will very greatful if someone reply my message.
Thanks
AungshuTo enable Tracing for a session Level.
ALTER SESSION SET TRACEFILE_IDENTIFIER = 'my_trace_id';
Enable the SQL Trace facility for the session by using one of the following:
SQL> Exec DBMS_SESSION.SET_SQL_TRACE
or
SQL> ALTER SESSION SET SQL_TRACE = TRUE;
To disable the SQL Trace facility for the session, enter:
ALTER SESSION SET SQL_TRACE = FALSE;
To enable Tracing for a database level.
Edit init parameter SQL_TRACE = TRUE.
Its not recomended because running the SQL Trace facility increases system overhead, enable it only when tuning SQL statements, and disable it when you are finished -

so please can any body tell me what is the issue I downloaded oracle from oracle website itself .Yes. The issue is your assumption.
Why do you assume that the o/s is automatically configured with the required s/w components for running Oracle 10g? Should the o/s have a clairvoyant module that "knows" it needs to prep itself when it is installed for supporting Oracle 10g? And not as a Weblogic server? Or mySQL? Or Postgress? Or JBoss? Or Oracle 11g?
Be glad that Oracle s/w actually tells you exactly what it needs from the o/s that is missing or needs correction. As this is exactly how a robust s/w stack should behave. -
10g on enterprise linux AS 3 - connection refused when attempting to ...
I recently installed 10g on RedHat Linux Enterprise AS 3. The installation appeared to go seamlessly and immediately afterwards I was able to access SQL PLUs via
http://localhost.localdomain:5560/isqlplus and login as system and perform queries. Shortly thereafter, this stopped working. When attempting to relaunch the browser and direct to this address, I receive the error: The connection was refused when attempting to contact localhost.localdomain:5560. The same error is received for other urls , e.g. ..ulrasearch, em etc.
I checked some of the prior postings that discuss checking configuration files for Apache, etc. I don't seem to have an Apache directory created anywhere although it is referenced in some of the log files.
Rebooting the machine makes no difference.

Anybody else looking at obtaining licenses via BPM Suite?
Just wondering if anyone else is looking to acquire WebCenter Suite via Oracle BPM Suite. BPM Suite appears to include a copy of WebCenter suite that is not usage restricted. So for about the same cost as just WebCenter Suite you can also get all the BPM and SOA capabilities. Anyone else onto this?
I don't think this is the case based on my previous experience with SOA Suite 11g and BPM Suite 10g. What I have seen in the past is that the support covers all products in the suite. Still, you bring up one more advantage to this licensing path... more support for my $$$

Installation of Developer Suite 10g in Linux
Hi,
I've done the configuration of Developer Suite 10g on Windows OS. But i want to know how can i configure the Developer Suite 10g in Linux platform.
Any link for this would help me a lot.
I have done some configuration, but i'm facing some problems with it. Like i've compiled the form in windows version, but when i try to compile the form in
linux, i'm facing the problems. In the form there are some libraries attached to it. When compiled in Windows, it got compiled successfully, but when i compile it
in Linux, it is unable to find the procedures and function in the libraries. To come out of this situation, i've placed all the libraries and the forms in a single folder. still
the problem exists. It is giving an error saying that the Invalid identifier, whereever i've mentioned the procedures/functions of libraries. Even in windows, i've all
the forms and libraries in the same folder.
Regards,
Alok DubeyFirst of all which Linux....????I am successful in installing it. It is Redhat Linux 5.0 Enterprise edition. But i'm facing the problem in configuring it.
I checked out from Oracle web site, this linux version supports the Developer Suite 10g. If u can send me any document
or any link which u felt that it is very useful, then Please let me know.
Have you checked if it is registered with DevSuite10g...???How to check this ..
"I have done some configuration.."
Which....????
I've set the forms path so that i can run the forms using the url in the browser. But i feel that my configuration is incomplete. As i've mentioned already that when my form is
compiled in the windows, it is getting compiled. But when i compile in linux, it is showing the error like Invalid Identifier. Here the Identifier name it is dispalying is the name of function(Which
is in the attached library).

E-Business Suite 11i apps on RedHat Linux 4 or 5
Hi,
Our E-business suite 11i has been running on the application tiers RHEL 4, due to the requirement to support large memory configurations on a 32-bit system. Is it true that from RHEL 5, the “hugemem” kernel which achieves this 32-bit memory scalability has been deprecated in favour of the use of 64-bit kernels?
Our Oracle 11g database is running on RedHat Linux 5.8. Is E-Business suite 11i (application tiers) certified to run on RHEL 5.8?
Also for future planning, is E-Business suite 12 (application tiers) certified to run on which versions of RedHat?
Thanks,

Your 11i application tier will be limited to 32-bit even if you install 32-bit OS on x86-64 hardware.
